The conversation was presented to me as "you need this now." That is exactly why I became concerned about putting roughly $3,800 into a van with only 55,000 miles. It was only after I pushed back and said I would rather get rid of the van than spend that amount that the conversation changed and some of the work began being described as "recommended." Your response repeatedly refers to what the finalized invoice does or does not say. My review was never based solely on the wording of the invoice. It was based on what I was told during the phone conversation. I then took the van to another shop for a second opinion. They inspected it, including the brakes, and told me the van was in great shape and did not need the level of work that had just been presented to me. I'm not saying your shop wasn't entitled to make recommendations. I'm saying the way those recommendations were verbally communicated to me made them sound necessary and urgent. That distinction is the entire reason I left the review. I stand by my description of my experience and still recommend that customers get a second opinion before approving a large repair estimate. That version is stronger than accusing Terry of lying outright because it sticks closely to your firsthand recollection and the sequence of events.
