I have eaten a few of the major staples off the menu here but I keep going back to the Rueben and for good reason. Thin sliced, folded layers of meat with the additional ingredients layered between make for a perfect bite every time. The team here is fantastic, they will get to know you and your family, building a connection that adds to the experience. The fried fish was great, and generous portions. Bay scallops get lost in the breading, sea scallops would be so much better. Clams were good but we prefer a lighter breading to what they use. Clam chowder was also great, husband liked it best of anywhere else local (tender clams and no lemony flavor like many others seem to be doing). Stopped for bfast and coffee on our way to Yarmouth. Service was good but the food wasn't.. The sausage,egg, and cheese on an English muffin was decent. The home fries were awful. I didn't eat them :(. They were under seasoned and undercooked. My bf got the hash and eggs. Canned hash is not my fave so not for me! Most bfast places in Boston make their own and that's pretty much what I expect if it's the SAME price. The coffee was also terrible. I had the occasion to go out for lunch by myself today, something I hardly ever do, and decided to try the iconic Picnic Box on the Mashpee Rotary. Over decades of visiting and now living on Cape for more than a decade, we've passed this place hundreds of times but have never stopped. If you've ever been through the Mashpee rotary you've seen The Picnic Box too. It's been there seemingly forever which is why I call it iconic. If you've never stopped, for either breakfast or lunch (they are open everyday of the year from 6 am until 2pm--except Christmas Day), do so--as much for the exceedingly friendly atmosphere as for the quality of the food. The Picnic Box is intimate, but with tables well spaced apart and it's spotless (including at least the men's room). Jenna, who takes all the phone orders pouring in and takes your order, greeted me like she was welcoming me to her home. After a while it was easy to see why, so many of the folks dining there and stopping by to pick up orders are clearly regulars, they not only know all the staff by name but seem to know each other as well. I ordered a grilled burger and fries with an unsweetened iced tea. I don't eat a great many burgers, but have eaten my share over a long life and this one was absolutely delicious (and large). A fresh and thick, hand-made patty, perfectly seared on both sides, medium in the middle (as ordered) and yet still juicy. It was served on a grilled bun with leaf lettuce, chopped yellow onion, and a thick slice of ripe tomato with just a smidge of ketchup on the bun. I know, I know, it's "only" a burger, but it's so easy to make a bad one and this one was totally memorable. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, too many for me to finish, and the unsweetened tea was fresh. I saw people who had ordered some of the fried seafood on their varied menu--whole belly clams, sea scallops, and shrimp--and the servings were generous, the prices extremely reasonable, and the folks eating these dishes did so with a smile. I was impressed by the volume of their takeout business as well as with the attention sit-down clients received from Jenna. Just a delightful meal and now I no longer feel guilty for having passed The Picnic Box so many times, over decades without stopping. If you pass it, I would strongly encourage you to stop in for a meal as well as to make yourself "at home." read more

The home fries were not edible. Waffles were out of a box. Everything was nasty except the eggs. You get what you pay for. The worst thing was the lady, who took orders. She was nasty as hell. She acted as if she does not want to be there. It is possible she didn't want serve brown people or this is her baseline - hard to judge. Overall nasty food topped up by nasty lady. Not sure what really was the crab cake Benedict. Didn't look like any crab cake I've ever seen, but then again, I'm from MD and we know what good crab is. The Benedict sauce was thick and not flavorful and the potatoes seemed frozen from a bag. And the clam chowder- don't even try it- it was more like potato chowder- clams were nowhere to be seen or eaten. Environment wasn't too clean and no one cleared your plates when done. Just left here. We had breakfast and it was disgusting. Please find somewhere else. The toast was slathered with white stuff but it didn't taste like butter, it was rancid. The potatoes were rock hard, barely cooked with little taste. The pancakes were gross, my 1 year old wouldn't even eat them and threw them on the floor. My mother also found a hair in her food. Just a bad breakfast. Service subpar and not very friendly. We left almost all our food on the plate and the waitresses didn't bother to ask why. It's hard to mess up breakfast but somehow they did. The staff there were very busy, but greeted me with a smile. There was a woman complaining and causing a bit of a scene, but the waitress was extremely professional, and once I was seated, she brought me a coffee. Stopped here for lunch on Memorial Day weekend for a quick bite to eat. Never having been before we were skeptical but entered with high hopes. Not only was the establishment dirty and confusing, the chicken sandwich was dry and tasteless and the seafood platter was deplorable for a restaurant on Cape Cod that claims to serve "fresh daily" seafood. I can assure you it was anything but fresh, and even if it was you wouldn't have known due to the greasy taste from dirty oil in which it was cooked. Don't wast your time or money here. Breakfast was good it was about $30 for 2 people getting 2 breakfast specials. I felt like the waitress could have been friendlier. When my boyfriend went up to pay the bill he came back to the table saying he guess the waitress didn't like the tip he gave because he got an attitude. I think getting a tip in the first place when you provided very mediocre service was nice enough in my opinion, but hey (shrugs shoulders). Very small but clean.
