A friend and I decided to go play some pool the other day while at the D.O.L. Big mistake, I immediately notice a big dog on the floor which was not a service animal, it was munching on its fleas you know with that fast munching look they only do when they have fleas, there was a huge mess of hair on the floor next to the dog, I went to get a drink and the bartender looked bewildered when I asked for a virgin margarita like he's never heard of it or something. It was just disgusting with the hair the dog smell etc. If you like those hillbilly regulars and dirty dogs and hair it's a great place for you if not go someplace else, trust me. read more

This place is awesome. Tina, Tami, Simon and other staff are very personable and great with customers. The food is delicious here and prices are good. I came here to write a review and I see the owner of Pickled Onion takes the time to respond to reviewer's he doesn't agree with - he does so in an offensive and berating manner. This is not only disturbing but also very telling about his establishment. I was not going to give a glowing review to begin with for reasons I will state below but now I'm even a little trepidatious due to the clearly vicious reaction(s). The fact is, the behavior the owner displays here on Yelp is but a small insight as to how he and his employees behave in person - how people are treated in Pickled Onion, etc; - this rude, harsh, uncompromising behavior is acceptable to this business and that is just not how a successful business runs, it is downright despicable. I enjoy dive bars, really I do, but this one is far below a 'dive', Pickled Onion is a dump. Pickled Onion is very dirty and I too have seen the flea ridden dog on the floor. Please let me note that I am a dog lover and the dog I saw in Pickled Onion was a very nice dog though certainly not a service dog and quite frankly he actually fit in well with the bugs, stench and overall filth of this place. The bathrooms are gross - the floors seriously need a washing - in fact, the whole place could use a serious attitude adjustment. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was introduced to the Onion by a very close friend. At first it can seem a little overwhelming, especially if you are out on a Friday night and a kick ass band is playing. I fell in love with the people at the Onion more than anything else. My kind of crowd I suppose. The staff is always very friendly and funny, even amidst the sometimes overwhelming amount of people. Most of the people I know there are regulars, surprise surprise :P I suppose you could call it a dive bar, as with any place where booze is involved there will be the occasional outburst of stupidity but all in all I give this place kudos because of the kick ass staff that really makes the place a gem. read more

Omg.. went here on a Thursday night, one bartender only, waited over an hour for 5 tacos which were the special, and left without them. You had to go to the bar for drinks, and we asked for a bar towel as the counter was dirty and they said they would take care of it. After 20 min and disgusted with our table I went to the restroom and got a paper towel and took care of it myself. They said someone was on vacation. Get more help. read more

Every time we come here we have a great time. When we were new to the neighborhood everyone from Mark (bartender), to Sean (the owner) were very friendly with us. Tyler is awesome in the kitchen as well! They've our orders memorized. I've seen Sean specifically go above and beyond not only for his regulars, which are more like family; but new guests to hos establishment. The steak strips and nachos are fantastic! If someone was negative, they obviously have a personal grudge most likely relative to erratic behavior. Rock on guys! read more

Worst service E V E R. No seating, line of smokers blocking the front door like a free kick wall, jacked up order. After getting past the smoke wall, we barely found a seat and noone came for service. We went to the bar to order our meals; which resulted in the bar lady taking my order wrong. The cook then comes out and demands more money from me since she billed me wrong for my item. Then as an added insult the server lady spills my water in my lap, thanks, not really. And the topper on this horrible night is that they served all my friends and didn't even get my order out. Therefore I promptly asked for my money back and will NEVER go there again. I've only been to the Pickled Onion on a Thursday, they do "Beer Bingo" every Thursday, free Bingo until "Blackout Bingo" where it is $1 per card played. Although a typical "dive bar" the place is filled with friendly old regulars and excellent staff. The only reason I would not give it it's 5th star is the price, typically I'd expect a "dive bar" in Renton to have cheaper prices where as here they are comparable to classier bars and restaurants. Definably is a dive bar. Smokers greet you as you try to walk in and it is a nasty entrance. They have changed and updated the interior somewhat since the first time I went to this place. But they don't seem to be consistent on the food one time it is good the next it isn't. Disappointed when I travel to the place for entertainment and then it is not there. My buddy Rick's favorite bar of all time. It's a good place for darts and they have it all really. It's a neighborhood British style pub.

Pros - fun environment that does support live music which is cool and rare in these days.

You go to the Pickled Onion and you get the feel of Cheers. Couple of regulars always at the bar and it doesn't matter what time of day it is they are always friendly... and the food is sooo good. I always have the little steak bites appetizer. They have Karaoke on Wed and Live bands and dart tournaments. They have a couple big screens for the games and a couple pool tables. This is the hangout in the hood. I have enjoyed each meal that I have eaten there. I like seeing Sean as he makes a great Cosmo! The other staff members have taken instruction regarding Cosmos and I have always had a pleasant time. The other patrons of the bar are varied and interesting. I have been honored at the bar for retirement and Veteran's day. I will continue to patronize the Pickled Onion in the future because of the enjoyable times I have had there for the last decade plus. read more

I honestly hate to write this review because all the other times I've come to get drinks and eat at this place, service has been phenomenal. Even the seasoned bartenders knew who my friends and I were when we come in. However, this one time has by far stood out amongst the rest. Server was fast to get our orders for beer and food however the food was pretty disappointing compared to many other visits previous to this particular one. The bread on my rueben sandwich was burnt and hard as a rock (not to mention it came out far longer than it normally would've taken). On top of that, the server had passed by our table as well as another and did not stop to ask our party for more drinks, even though we had empty cups at the end of our table (sign to see if more drinks or whatever else is needed). The other table had even asked the server by name when they passed by but the server paid no attention. I will say that the Onion had a couple new bartenders and staff (more than likely a new cook too) but god damn people! Update : It looks like the staff has changed a little bit and things have gotten exponentially better. They serve by far the best and least expensive pub food. If you want good food and great drinks go to the pickled onion. It's super affordable and very comfortable place to hangout.They do paint nights, rock paper scissor tournaments, bands, UFC, darts, pool, and a few more events depending on the time of year. Lots of sports being watched. The bartenders are very entertaining. I can go by myself and feel completely comfortable. read more

Reading through the reviews, I decided to say my piece on the place as I have been there many times. This bar has a few negatives, but mostly positives. The negatives are the prices (some of the shots are way too high for the caliber and location and charging for non-alcoholic drinks is just silly), the decor (the paint choices in the bathrooms are hideous and not having working paper towel dispensers is straight up unacceptable) and the fact that depending on the day or time it can feel very cliquish (it is after all a dart and pool bar, and that is pretty normal). But the positives outweigh the negatives. The staff is excellent - they have very friendly, knowledgeable bartenders and cooking staff (and this review about dangerous people working there? Never seen it), multiple TVs that they are willing to change to whatever sporting event you wish to watch, tons of parking, and a great food selection. Although it isn't the best food I've ever had, it is nice to go someplace that would normally have run-of-the-mill bar food and be able to order something like Shepard's Pie or the Millwall Burger. And even though the place can feel cliquish - if you are at all interested in playing darts, there will usually be someone there that would help you learn or just play with you. And once you're playing darts, you'll have plenty of people to talk to. They do have bands, karaoke and beer bingo, but those aren't all the time. Overall, it is a good place to go if you want a fun and low key night out with friends. So if you're expecting more than that, this isn't the bar for you. read more

This place is horrible. I went in today (sunday) for happy hour. Got the popcorn shrimp For 3.95 and potato skins for 3.95. First of all the popcorn shrimp came out and there was 13! How can u justify 13 shrimp for 4 dollars.. 30 cents each salad shrimp?? I ate those and then realized how bad of a deal it was and complained the bar tender was so rude she said yes sir you can get more but Ull have to pay. Why would I pay for more when I'm not happy with the amount I got in the first place?!? And the potato skins were just a whole potato cut in quarters and sprinkled cheese with a little bacon. NOT potato skins.oh and the cook adds in at the last minute "I did u a favor and added more shrimp it's usually only 12." Oh wow thanks for 1 more FROZEN SALAD SHRIMP. This place sucks. The bathroom stinks sooo bad. It's worse than a dive bar. Stay far away. Oh and if the owner wants to try and talk some talk on here to me like he did to the other YELP reviewers, like "talk to the regulars crap" don't even bother. U sit on yelp and make yourself look so unprofessional by telling people to grow balls and good luck with your life. If anyone needs good luck in life it's you and your sorry a$$ bar.
