Not a pleasant experience and will not be back. My partner and I walked in here today and the three women behind the counter never greeted or acknowledged us. As we were checking out, a lady walked in and was immediately greeted and asked if she needed helped finding anything. We felt there was some sort of DISCRIMINATION/RACISM present as my partner is a person of color, and the other lady who was greeted was not. Was so excited to visit this store! It's so hard for me to find the brands I always buy my daughter in a store! I walked in and three employees in there and not one even looked at me. My daughter stayed right next to me and we shopped a bit and still no one acknowledged us. I asked where the kyte baby section was and you would have thought I was distrusting a lunch date. Walked in with a smile and very happy. Older women who worked her looked me up and down and said can we help you with something? (Very rudely) I said I was looking for maternity clothes. She said very rudely again "we don't sale maturity clothes" and proceeded to turn around. The next lady that walked in she told her "welcome" with a nicer voice. I felt very judged and unwanted by her tone and body language from the moment I walked in. It was a very uncomfortable. It made me feel like I was unwanted and something was wrong with me. Being looked up and down the way I was I felt like she was judging me based off appearance. Total gem of a children's boutique in Austin. Recently purchased a nursery glider floor sample from them and am thrilled with it. When I went to pick it up, the owner was so helpful in loading the huge chair into the car since I am pregnant! She was a delight. They have fabulous inventory of kids clothes, accessories, and nursery items. So glad this place exists in Austin, truly stands out amidst a sea of chain stores. read more

I wanted to love this store, but the customer service is just awful. They have beautiful things, but the girl working this past weekend was absolutely unhelpful. I'm having twins, and I came in planning to buy two of everything they had in girl newborn size outfits. I was expecting to spend at least $700 or $800, maybe even $1,000. To my complete and utter disappointment, I found that not only was the selection was quite small in general, and but they didn't have two matching outfits in newborn size in any of the outfits they had. I was specifically hoping to find a pair of smocked dresses for our girls to wear as coming home outfits, but I couldn't find two of anything in a newborn size. I understand that the store is small, and they don't have as much inventory as a larger store would, so I asked the girl working if I could place an order some items. She was curt and rude, and simply said, "well, there's a minimum order you would have to make, we can't just order a few pieces at a time." She never bothered to ask what I wanted to order, or how many pieces. If she had been more helpful and friendly, she would have found out that I would have easily exceeded whatever "minimum order" is required. I'm sorry I wasted my time driving all the way to this store, only to be met with poor customer service and a pitiful lack of choices. I like to support small, local businesses, but I guess I will just do my shopping online from now on, which is unfortunate. I would much prefer to give business to a local retailer, but why bother going to places like this when the staff is rude and the selection is minimal? Also, it is my understanding that the owner of the store is out on maternity leave. She should really consider finding someone else to represent her in her absence, since the girl working this Saturday has no clue about good customer service. I absolutely love the items this store carries, especially all the beautiful smocked baby clothes, and I probably would have been a lifelong customer. I really want to give 3 1/2 stars. There is no doubt that the items are quality, beyond adorable and exactly my style. However, I really struggle with the customer service. There is a snobby vibe I get from the employees there and while this won't keep me from being a customer, I just know that when I walk in, I am not going to feel warmly welcome. Their clothing is the cutest. I love purchasing smock dresses, seersucker and sweet little pieces for my daughter. I also love purchasing gifts for friends' babies there too. I've struggled to write this review for over a week. I'm a long time customer of Picket Fences. They have a really great selection of maternity wear, nursery decor, baby clothes and accessories. The kids shoe section is small but smartly stocked. I especially love to buy things on sale as their general price point is a bit steep (it is a boutique shop after all). And the customer service is mostly pretty good... However, on my last visit, I left really, really annoyed. It was Small Business Saturday and my email from PF stated "20% off storewide!" I thought to myself, that's SUPER! I love a sale and I love to support my local businesses. While there, I found the perfect pair of boots for my two year old. They had one size available (her size) and they were 50% off. Score! Meant to be! I paid for the boots and walked to my car. I pulled out the receipt because it seemed off to me and, sure enough, the 20% discount wasn't applied. I went back inside to let them know thinking they would immediately correct their mistake. Boy, was I wrong! They, in no uncertain terms, said "NO." That the boots were already on sale.. I said, yes, I'm aware, this is why I opted to buy them. And I showed them the email that stated 20% off STOREWIDE that specifically said nothing about excluding sale items. They said the boots were "already a good deal" and that I was welcome to return them. This makes no sense to me. Rather than honor their word and make the sale to a loyal customer, they would rather have said loyal customer leave wholly disappointed. That, folks, is poor customer service and I won't be back. read more

this is the second review I have written in 6 years. I will not be returning. I was in there today and planned on spending at least a couple hundred dollars. This was the second time I came in and received horrible customer service, so naturally, I did not spend more than my store credit (and a pair of shoes I couldn't resist! Oops.) The last time I was in there was in December of 2014. The owner (blonde hair, 40's) was very rude and cold. I would ask her questions, and she was OBVIOUSLY very annoyed. She was eager to get me out and get my money so that she could help the other customers, to whom she was unhelpful and unfriendly, as well. I thought maybe she was having a bad day and chalked it up to that Returned today and nothing had changed. As I was checking out there were two people behind me, and I was asking her a few questions. She pushed me off to the side and looked at the other people and said "are you ready?". I guess I wasn't speeding enough for her. Unbelievable. Her assistant also had a very rude and inhospitable personality. No smiles, no kindness. When I told them I was pregnant and had a baby due in October they could care less but just wanted to know what I would be buying. I was unsure about sizes, however. Every question I asked was received with annoyance and rude disregard. I am a pretty easy person and definitely easy to get along with. After years of working in retail, I still can't get past this. I don't foresee that store being there much longer with these people running it. Disappointing. read more

Adorable baby and kids clothing and accessory options. It's great there's a local boutique that carries Tea Collection and other brands I usually only find at Nordstrom. I received a baby gift recently that I needed to exchange for a larger size. When I explained this to one of the two sales ladies, she took the item behind the desk without another word. After waiting around for a few minutes, I realized that she was not going to find the larger size for me, point me in the right direction, or offer any other help unless I asked. There was one other customer in there and, when she left, the sales ladies started to whisper about her as soon as she left. I generally felt unwelcome and it was an uncomfortable experience all around. They have cute things but there are plenty of other places with better customer service. I doubt I'll go back. read more

Over the weekend, I was frustrated over finding a great boutique to shop for my first maternity jeans. Few stores that are here in Austin are NOT open on Sundays which is really annoying. So, I check out this place first thing Monday morning. I called to make sure they had what I was looking for before I head over. A girl greeted me at the door, friendly enough. Once she found some jeans for me, she led me to a dressing room. After that, she never checked on me. I'm sure she just wanted to leave me alone since my mother was with me. Who knows. Not much customer service there, but I'm happy to be left alone to shop and decide whether I want to spend $300 on 2 pairs of jeans. I end up buying them because I prefer to try on clothes vs. buying clothes online. Limited selections, but I got what I came for. Really cute, modern shop They carry brand name items that is the latest and the cutest. However, it is pricey. It's not your average consignment store, so be ready to spend some moola. If you don't mind spending some money and you want cute, modern store to shop in, this is the place. read more

My husband and I had some time to waste, so we popped in here to see if we found anything we just had to have. For those of you that don't know me, I'm more of a bargain shopper than a boutique shopper; so I had sticker shock on many of the items that I saw. Eventually, I found myself in the back of the store where the sale items were. I found two items for 75% off. This pleased me very much. I feel like I got a good deal here. After reading the reviews on City Search about this place, I was really concerned about the customer service. So many people complained that no one assisted them and that the sales staff were rude. I decided to go to the store to see for myself and I had heard they had cute maternity clothes. Knowing that I was entering the store 30 minutes until they closed on a Saturday, I was completely expecting the rudest of rude encounters from a young staff probably anxious to close so they could go "party" at night... But I was wrong. The young girls in the store greeted me and my husband as soon as we walked in the store. They asked how they could help out and when we said that we were just looking, they were very nice about it and let us look around. When one of them saw that I had a handful of clothes to try out, she assisted me in getting a dressing room and didn't hover over me while I tried them on ( I hate that when the sales staff ask you "How are we doing in there" every 5 minutes!!) More people came in with only a couple of minutes of closing and the sales staff treated them with the same courtesy as if they came in at the beginning of the day. None of us felt rushed to leave the store and let us take as much time as we needed to buy what we wanted to buy. Cute stuff and if you need awesome maternity jeans while you are pregnant, this is the place to visit. Caution though-they will cost you around $180-$200 a pair. OUCH! Then again-there was a sale rack with 50% and 75% off so that took the sting out of the sticker shock on some of the clothes. Bummer none of those cute jeans were on sale though!! Didn't get 5 stars since they are very strict on the return policy. It seems most things you buy in the store fall under the "All Sales Final" policy. Most of us entering the store are pregnant which often means we are hormonal...do you REALLY want to have such strict policies for women who can go from happy-go-lucky, to extremely depressed, to raging angry, and back to happy within a 2 minute time period??? read more

I love this place and I keep going back. Every time I go in, I am greeted warmly. They let me look around and are so understanding when I leave in complete indecision. I found the bag of my dreams there and fully planned on purchasing it until I saw it for 20% at the manufacturer's website. They weren't upset about it at all. They were happy that I found a great deal. When there was an item that I wanted, but was backordered, they called me as soon as it came in. I have zero complaints about the customer service. I have purchased quite a few items there and have been so happy with each purchase. I love their selection bc it isn't merchandise you can grab at BBB or BRU. The items are great quality and worth every one of the many many pennies you will spend there. PS...they do occasionally have a store wide sale. The store is beautiful. I was so excited to register here. At the time (not sure if this has changed) you get a white basket and put all of your registry items inside. I meticulously walked around the store and built my dream basket. I went back less than a month later and asked to change something in my registry. It could not be found. Because I didn't specify a shower date, they simply returned all of my items to the shelves without even giving me a call. They were not overly apologetic by any means. They had had sold the items and many of them were no longer available to order. I was so sad. I had left my contact information so I feel like they could have given me a courtesy call. read more

This place isn't the worst. But it's definitely, absolutely not great. I got a gift card to this place with the specific instructions to buy something maternity to wear to work. Their clothing selection is definitely not geared toward work appropriate - very low cut, bright colors, lots of sleeveless maxi dresses, etc. But, that's okay, I figured I'd just buy something else. Wrong. Picket Fences literally doesn't carry clothing for smaller women! Not a single xsmall to be seen in the entire store. After two very frustrating trips to try on clothing there, and one sales lady who suggested that maybe I come back when I am more pregnant (20 weeks isn't pregnant enough to wear maternity clothes?)... I'm giving up. They keep pointing out that they sell baby things as well, but at this point, I don't need baby things, I need clothing so I don't have to go to work naked! Plus, that's not why the gift card was given to me - it was given with the express purpose that I buy clothes. I asked if I could just return the gift card and get cash, that way I could buy clothes somewhere else. But perhaps unsurprisingly, the answer was no. I"m pregnant (first time) and have been searching for a place to find great designer jeans and other quality pieces that don't resemble a mumu (am I spelling that right?). After popping into quite a few places and being only mildly impressed - at best (even Target, that I thought would be a maternity slam dunk - only has basics and few nice items) - Picket Fences was a gem to find. I'm not doing five stars because the prices can be high - but they have a well-edited selection of nice items. I got my preganacy jeans there and wear them all the time and they are holding up great. Also found a great Michael Stars T and an adorable dress. They also seemed to have some great baby/kids clothes as well ... but I'm a few months away from needing those yet. read more

Extremely overpriced for what they have to offer. Primarily they carry clothes for baby and mom. The baby/children's clothes primarily range from $40-60... For babies that will grow out of these things in days/weeks. The maternity clothes are high end - shorts for $200, dresses around $250. So not worth it for things I will be wearing for a few months. Stopped in for the first time today only to be greeted with 20% off store wide! Hooray! I have went to many of the boutiques in Austin and although they have some cute things they are generally very small and limited in products. Picket Fences has a good variety of baby items both clothing and not. You are in a boutique so prices aren't cheap but they carry the lines I love to splurge on in between my consignment store and clearance rack shopping. The staff was very friendly without being overly invasive of my quiet shopping time. Very much enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be returning. read more

When I found out I was expecting twins I was looking for a glider chair that would be comfortable and wide enough. I came across a Little Castle chair called a chair and a half at one of those big box baby stores but I prefer to buy local for the customer service. I ordered the custom chair in mid February. I was surprised by a phone call at the end of March that it was delayed from the manufacturer in California. I understand the delay was out of the hands of Picket Fences. I was impressed at the honest communication from the owner and even received a phone call from the Little Castle people in California apologizing. The owner set clear expectations along the way and even delivered the chair in early April due to the extended wait time. I am very pleased with the way it was handled and look forward to many purchases at Picket Fences. read more

We ordered a Million Dollar Baby crib from this store and it took about 5 months to arrive. When it did arrive, the box was damaged and another one had to be ordered. However, this was not the store's fault -- it was a manufacturer-side issue -- and the store owner really went above and beyond to stay on top of the manufacturer and to keep us posted. She even went so far as to deliver the crib, for free, and install it for us to make up for the delay! So I highly recommend Picket Fences, but Million Dollar Baby? Not so much. read more

I had a great shopping experience at Picket Fences! I was looking for a glider for our nursery and had visited both of the major baby super stores only to be told ordering the glider would take about 12 weeks, maybe even 16 weeks! This would be well past my due date. I decided to look at Picket Fences although I was afraid it would be out of my price range. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the prices were about the same as the super stores AND they told me they could get my the glider in 4-6 weeks! Super win. The women who worked there was very nice and helpful and didn't act weird or annoyed when I was channeling my inner Goldilocks by sitting in every chair that had over and over to find the "just right" one. I probably sat in chairs for an hour or so and they were super cool about it. Finally I made up my mind and ordered. My chair came in in less than a month! It was perfect, exactly what I wanted. Also, because they were training a new employee on how to do delivery and set up on gliders, they delivered and set up my chair for me for free. I am super grateful and feel better about having shopped and supported a great local independent business than having gone through the mega baby super store places. Great staff, great products, great service. Look forward to going back when I need more baby things! read more
