The Painted Raven is amazing in every way. It's a gift shop, specialty fabric (and quilting) shop, art supply store, and one stop shop for great holiday decor. You'll find yourself browsing for a longggg time ... and also wanting to buy everything. This family-owned shops sources their products primarily from women-, BIPOC-, and LGBTQIA-owned producers, most of them being in Texas. They also focus on selling items that aren't available on Amazon--which I love. Whether you're a quilter, looking for the perfect birthday gift, or need holiday decor for your home--you'll find it here.

The cutest shop! Very affordable prices and a friendly staff. They have crafts galore and cute gifts for literally anyone. There were these fun painting and embroidery kits for adults to pick up a new hobby. Plus a gorgeous wall of yard, fabric, and supplies. And all kinda of gifts like handmade earrings, blankets, and fun croc charms, fidgets, hair clips, and headband. Everything is so unique and well curated--you have to drop in!

The ladies were helpful, encouraging me to attend a sewing workshop! Found some cool gifts from two independent vendors in the shop!

My mother-in-law absolutely loved doing business with Ms. Dorothy and her daughter Michelle so when…read moremy mother-in-law passed away I knew exactly where to go to bring her jewelry that I wasn't interested in keeping for myself or our family. Dorothy made me a reasonable offer for a handful of gold, and the time frame November 2024. However, because it was coming up to the holidays and end of the year 2024. Dorothy asked if she could put two of our rings on consignment. (Consignment means she will display the rings in her shop and if and when the rings sell she would pocket 10% of the total of what each ring sold for and I was honest and upfront from the first day we spoke. I approved/agreed to list these two rings and I stated what the start of each rings (asking price). Fast forward 1 year later. I havent been in contact with Dorothy regarding my ring status. I am always told "I will call you right back", "chill just chill", "Waiting on the jewelry to be reset" then it would be given back to me. I drove to Dorothy's twice which is over an hour away from my home. It wasn't until the first week in March I finally got my mother-in-laws ring back. Wasn't in the same condition as when I left it for consignment. I have decided once I had the jewelry we closed this chapter . And move on with our lives.

This place has all kinds of stuff- wigs, rings, watches, necklaces, ear rings, and they even sell used stuff as well. Lots of random stuff in here.

There are a few things that Austin seems to struggle with: pizza for one and Christmas trees…read more I understand that I cannot expect the same quality of tree as from other parts of the country with a more suitable climate. Still... I chose Evergreen because it is a family run business whose patriarch worked for the Department of Forestry. Who would know evergreens better? The atmosphere and experience were similar to most tree farms I've visited. You hop on a wagon or walk to the field of trees. It was a beautiful day so I made the short walk. When I got to the field, however, I wasn't sure what to do next. A wagon full of people had arrived minutes before me and apparently the staff was already helping them, hence there was no one to guide me. After a few minutes, though, I approached someone who looked as if he worked there. He told me that all the saws had been claimed so I just needed to wait a few minutes until one was returned. As I walked through the field I was disappointed to find that very few trees were proportional and pretty enough to be a Christmas tree. After about an hour I just picked one, even though only one side of it was suitable, figuring I would put the bad side against a wall. I didn't feel like waiting for the wagon to return so I dragged the tree back to the main area to purchase. Once I got there though, again, there was no one to instruct me. I finally figured out on my own (and after asking other customers) that I had to drop my tree at the shaker-thing, go inside the building to pay, then retrieve my tree elsewhere. The line inside snaked through the building. Only one cashier, so it took forever. When I got back outside I figured out where to retrieve my tree. The man who helped me (the aforementioned patriarch, I believe) was the only one doling out trees and he didn't seem very happy about it. After twenty futile minutes of trying to do it alone, I finally asked the patriarch if someone could help me get the tree on the roof of my car. A young kid obliged but didn't offer to help tie it, so I did it myself, driving home no faster than 40 mph and still stopping every 5 miles to readjust the tree to keep it from falling off the roof. Up until this point, few issues were the fault of the tree farm. (These places are DIY and rather intuitive, so direction need only be minimal.) But when I got the tree home and cut off the ties, I was shocked to see needles fall all over the floor. We pulled out clumps of needles and dead branches for days. The shaker-thing clearly had not done its job. The tree was more disproportionate and had more spots than I had noticed at the farm. Overall I think we did a decent job hiding them. But next year, we may have to drive to North Carolina for our tree. :)

It was an amazing experience for our family and a new tradition that we will do for years to comeread more
