Ended up here after finding out Taco Bell in the same complex is closed The staff 5 stars The cleanliness 5 stars The food 1 star. The orange chicken was mostly breading. When there was chicken it was gristly. The was a weird after taste. The rice was bland. The rice to entree was off. It's not the staffs fault. This is the food they are sent. Corporate definitely cutting corners to save money. Again the staff were awesome. Polite, helpful, hard working Lot parking

CHICKEN AND VEGETABLES

My first time trying this place. The place is clean inside. The service was fast. Didnt take long to order. I ordered chicken and vegetables with white rice. The vegetables had a good taste Nice seasoning. The chicken looked so white but it was good too. I will be trying some other items on the menu next time. Overall pretty good meal.

Came from AT&T and we saw PICK UP STICK like 2 doors down from where we at. I remembered they had good Wonton soup, we used to get it a few years back so we are curious if they still have them. The moment we came in we saw it right away that it's still on their menu. We decided to dine in instead of ordering to go since it's been a while since we last been to this place. I ordered the WONTON SOUP LARGE and my Son got the HOUSE SPECIAL CHICKEN WINGS. Wonton soup still tastes the same the way we like it, simple and tasty broth and filling. The House Sticky Chicken wings, this has a Sweet tangy Chicken wings and it is sure its sticky in the hand when eating them. It also includes noodles and fried wontons , good enough portion and tasted just okay . Great staff and service.

Hanafi M.

Food good, service slow, parking great egg rolls cold, sat too long under heat lamp whilst the other half of order was still in the preparation stage.

Wonton soup

Great customer service by Mirna! After being short staffed she told us in advance that we would have to wait about 20-25 minutes to get our food, but she still kept up a wonderful attitude. Worth the wait. Food was good..!

KUNG PAO CHICKEN CHOW MEIN

Stopped here with a colleague for a Chinese craving. I was not disappointed! The food hit the spot! I ordered some lo mein noodles and kung po chicken. Both were excellent in flavor. Serving w as plentiful and the service was quick and friendly! We didn't eat in, but the ambiance was causal and comfortable. I'd definitely recommend it!

The food tastes great as usual and I understand that there are some days that the restaurant is really busy but this meal was just sad. It was a bowl of rice with a very small amount of house spicy chicken.

This is where you order and you can see the cooking "Yes Chef!"

We ordered garlic string beans, lo mein, honey walnut shrimp & general tso's chicken. Food comes out in the order it is done which can be a little off kilter. In our case, the chicken and shrimp came out first, then the lo mein, and much later, the green beans. All of the food was just okay. Nothing was truly a show stopper. I did not taste any honey or walnuts in the shrimp, just a lot of mayonnaise. The lo mein was the best dish of the night. We took some leftovers home in the cute packaging. The branding here is definitely a strong suit. As we were sitting on the patio, there was a steady stream of customers ordering & picking up takeout. Service was fine. We sat for quite awhile once we were done, and we had to ask for to-go boxes. Then about ten minutes later, our server came by to run our cards. Verdict: FS is cute and bustling. The food is adequate but honestly pretty basic. The prices are quite reasonable. One restroom for the whole place. Paid street parking on Adams Avenue until 8pm & free parking on some side streets. Just check for the parking signs. Peace.

And Clean Restroom. Can't wait to go back!!!!

Founded by chef/owner Khwanta Osanai who learned how to cook at age seven, she previously owned a Thai eatery in Chula Vista. With a purposefully-crafted menu made up of authentic dishes and street food from her native Northern Thailand, everything is made from scratch and fresh ingredients. Rather than a numbered scale for spiciness as many Thai eateries, each dish is spiced as it would be traditionally. I loved Thai food, so would this place on Soi 30th hit the spot and bring me back for more!? PURCHASE(S) Thai Iced Tea 16floz Cup ($5.95): Sadly, no boba, but this was a refreshing drink (not too sweet) while I waited for my food to be ready. Crispy Tofu ($9.95): Although these always reminded me of that facial sponge women use to apply makeup on their face and around the eyes, these crispy fat spongy triangle pieces were tasty and were made even better with the crushed nuts and spicy sweet dipping sauce. Hot Spicy Basil Extra Spicy + Fish ($14.95 + $4.00): Sauteed with holy basil, Thai chilis, onions, green peppers, garlic, and purportedly served over rice and a fried egg (these items didn't come with it), this was a decent portion size with an insane spice level ( wasn't right for a couple of days, if you knew what I meant!), big tender fish pieces, and the various fresh crispy vegetables. My mouth was on fire, but I took this dish head on! Pad See Ew Extra Spicy + Shrimp ($14.95 + $3.00): Wide rice noodles stir-fried with an egg, dark soy sauce, and Chinese broccoli with my choice shrimp, the portion size was packed, crazy spicy, and a ton of small/medium-sized shrimp, this lasted me for three days! Steamed Rice (INCLUDED): Fluffy and steamy, this helped cool the heat from the main entrees. Mango Sticky Rice ($9.95): One of my favorite desserts (mango - hello!), the mango pieces were fresh and juicy, the rice hot and sweet, but I missed the sweet coconut milk drizzling this dish came with at other Thai restaurants I've been to. SERVICE I was greeted by a friendly young woman behind the order counter who offered me a menu when I asked for a takeout order. After a few minutes, I easily placed my order, hung out while I drank my Thai iced tea drink, and within fifteen minutes, everything was securely packed and ready for the quick walk back to my place. As I waited, I had a casually fun conversation with a gentleman who was associated with the woman on some level - khàawp khun kha! PARKING (Varied: FREE this instance): I simply walked across the street from Modern Times Flavordome, or merely five minutes from my place. Otherwise, there appeared to be some spots along the main drag of Upas St. and all surrounding roads (I didn't notice any lots) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A clean simple layout with an order counter once you entered with a look into the kitchen, and several tables along the front windows and wall that stretched towards the back of the place. I didn't venture further than the front, so I couldn't say anything else about what I might've missed. I liked the various artwork that hung on the walls., but surprisingly little to no actual Thai merchandise or relics. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the front wall windows and doors while a mix of recessed and various hung electric ceiling lights covered the rest. I believed there was at least one TV behind the order counter while classic rock & roll music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I really enjoyed my first Thai food experience in the North Park neighborhood at Soi 30th. Yes, the spices tore me up, but the food was still very tasty, the prices were comparable, the portion sizes were generally very good, the atmosphere was more clean and modern than I would've liked, and the service was straightforward and efficient. I felt the only drawback was the limited menu (I was so used to pages of options at other places). And, I always loved to support local small mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $61.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Don't think the meat needed the egg yolk ponzu sauce and the kimchi wasn't fermented at all. The cucumber was also not that marinated. The pickled soy radish was pretty spot on though. Also the crispy pig ear and fried rice were new for me. I wish the crispy pig ear was a little more crispy cause some pieces were a little tough to chew and not very brittle. Flavor was great though and I loved the chive and bean sprouts in it. Fried rice was delicious. Couldn't pin point the flavor but maybe it was the corned beef. Crispy Taiwanese chicken was good as usual but for some reason the basil aoili stood out even more today. It was very fragrant and the basil notes were really coming through. Our reservation was at 9:30p which was kind of late but the music they were playing was BUMPING. Great playlist and we also noticed this the last time we came.

I must say, I never would have stumbled upon this restaurant by myself, but it was highly recommended by my friends who live nearby. My daughter and I were visiting San Diego for a one-week trip because I was required to come here for work. My workdays were pretty packed, but my daughter and I also took advantage of this trip by filling our evenings with lots of fun activities. One thing we did was visit some wonderful friends who live in San Diego. My friend, John, told us that he found an amazing restaurant in San Diego a few decades ago, and he was really sad to find that it had closed down. Several years later, and more recently, he was surprised to find that this same restaurant owner reopened his restaurant in a new location, which is here on Adams Avenue in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego. He was overjoyed to find that this restaurant had reopened in a different location, and he says that this is his favorite restaurant in San Diego. After a story like that, I had to come here to experience this place for myself! We parked on Adams Avenue, and I paid the meter for a reasonable amount of time for us to enjoy our dinner together. I would imagine that parking here can be a bit congested and tricky at times, so I would just suggest that you're patient and careful with where you decide to legally park. We had a party of five for our dinner together, and it was an absolutely wonderful evening with good friends and delicious food. Our waitress was Jun, and she was friendly and professional, as well as attentive to our dinnertime needs. The owner also came out to say hello to us, and he took the time to chat with us for a few minutes during our meal. He was so incredibly nice. I always appreciate it when an owner is willing to devote some time to connect with their customers. For an appetizer, I ordered the "Japanese Pork Gyoza," which are pan fried dumplings filled with pork, fresh ginger, onion, green onion, cabbage, garlic, and soy. It was absolutely delicious, and I had to resist the temptation of eating too many of them so that our friends could enjoy some too. For my meal, I ordered the "Katsu Chicken Curry," which is chicken thigh meat battered in Panko breadcrumbs, deep fried until golden brown and crunchy. I got my meal with a half-and-half mix of white rice and brown rice. My meal was prepared perfectly, and it was incredibly delicious! My meal was concluded with some of their delicious ice cream, which satiated my post-meal sugar cravings. Our evening with friends was special and memorable, and our meals and service at Dao Fu made our evening even more pleasant and enjoyable. Thanks to the owner, our waitress, and the staff for making our evening a wonderful one. The next time I'm back in this area, I'll be sure to come here again!

They only had a table for 5 but we ended up having 6 people in our party. They were so kind to be able to accommodate the additional person! They had personalized menus that greeted my party and it wished my friends a happy birthday!! They actually got to take the menus home! This was really a nice touch, I appreciated the details. We family-styled everything which is honestly the way to go so everybody can try a little of everything! It was majority of our party's first time dining there. We started off with some drinks, I got the Non-alcoholic Guava Mocktail and I got to try what was the equivalent to an espresso martini too. Definitely liked the guava drink better because it tasted like guava nectar juice (kind of like Kerns or Jumex). The Expresso Martini had fresh mint in it and it tasted earthy which wasn't my cup of tea. For food we started off with the Heirloom Tomato Salad which was DELICIOUS!! I don't know what they put in the Vietnamese Green Goddess (probably fish sauce since all the dishes basically had this) but it was magnificent and one of my favorite dishes of the night. Then the Scallops and the Black Cod came out. The Scallops came in a set of 3 and we cut them in half so we could all have a taste. The sauce on this was DIVINE!!! It was citrusy but still really flavorful bursting with umami. I'm literally starting to drool reminiscing about it xD We wanted to keep it to use on other dishes because it was so good. The Black Cod was also delicious. It had fried skin attached and a sesame soy glaze. Next up came the Beef Tartare and the Wagyu Steak. The Beef Tartare was probably the least flavorful out of everything we ordered, but it was still well seasoned. My friend said it was really spicy but it might have just been her bite because I didn't think it was spicy at all. I like that the give you the option of leafy greens or shrimp chips to eat it with. The Wagyu though, was an all-star dish. It was the crowd favorite for sure, we all enjoyed not only the steak but the picked baby eggplants that come with it, and the sauce was phenomenal!! Lastly came the Dry Aged Duck which is what they're known for. It was definitely the biggest fish out of all. You were able to eat the duck with two different sauces, one they called a "Fish Sauce Chimichurri" and "Vietnamese XO sauce" which is more so satay. My friends liked the XO sauce but I liked the Chimichurri better. They had actually forgotten about the side of Buttered Rice but I was told it was incredibly flavorful on its own so we still asked for it. It had more than just butter in it, there was dried shrimp and sesame seeds, and it was made with coconut milk or something because it had a sweet but savory taste to it. I saved some of my duck and Wagyu to eat with it which was actually pretty good. Overall I liked that they brought out the dishes from lightest to heaviest and especially after they brought out out 2 sides of Buttered Rice we were all satisfied and full. It was the perfect amount of food. Honestly EVERY dish was different but amazingly dank and I think it's the fish sauce in everything. They were also sweet and kept the cake we brought in the fridge, placed the candles on it for us, and even after we sang they cut the cake for us!! 10/10 would recommend coming here for not only the food but the impeccable service!! Since we had a larger party there's an automatic 20% gratuity already added to the bill, which came out to be $555! (Look at that angel number!)

Looking at pictures from other nights, most of our food was half the size or missing some major component. For example, the egg noodles had only a few very thin truffle shavings compared to what I saw online. They also lacked the real truffle flavor. The chocolate dessert was half of its normal size. Overall, everything is extremely overpriced and lacks flavor. The food was so bland across the board and it felt like we were being skimped out not on just the size but the flavor too. We eat a lot of Asian food and the taste wasn't even close to matching our expectations. All the workers were very friendly, but the food came out very slow. They also gave us a printed out menu for our anniversary with our last name on it which was spelled wrong. I don't care about that, just thought it was very funny. The restaurant was smaller than we expected, but we did enjoy the colors, the layout and the overall ambiance. Wouldn't go back!

Bossam Spring Rolls: Bossam is typically eaten with a bunch of toppings in a lettuce wrap so they've taken that and put everything together into a spring roll. The pork belly flavor was great but since I can't really handle spicy, I had to pick at the jalapeños. For dip, instead of a peanut sauce, they had a ssamjang sauce. Fried Shishitous: Pretty average appetizer dish to share. They tasted great and luckily, no one got an extremely spicy one. Pretzels with Miso Beer Cheese: The miso beer cheese sounded so interesting and was why we decided to try it. The pretzel was average and unfortunately, the beer cheese was very clumpy. The head chef came out and mentioned that this was something they were having trouble with and I hope they've figured it out! Katsu Sando: I was most excited to try this and it ended up being my favorite! The katsu was super crispy and juicy. No complaints here! Longanisa Burger: We liked everything except for the guacamole, which felt a little out of place. I didn't even realize that there was a yuzu cream because it kind of just blended in with the guac. We mentioned to the head chef that it might be better if there were some crispy onions for texture and that would fit a bit better with the Filipino theme of the burger. Chashu Tacos: Comes with 3 pieces. Not sure if the flavor is comparable to chashu but it was good. Adobo Loaded Fries: We chose adobo as the meat since we already had the other protein options in other dishes. I think they nailed the adobo meat and flavor for the fries but I didn't necessarily think it was the best pairing with fries. Or I wish it was a bit more saucy so the fries could get some of that adobo flavor too. This is their first brick and mortar store and I hope they succeed! The head chef/owner came out and asked us if there was anything that could've been better and he seemed very receptive to our ideas.

Absolutely loved it. Our server Carter was exceptional, guiding us thru the menu and just a joy to…read morebe around!!! Do NOT SKIP THE MUSSELS!!!!!!! Or the chocolate mousse dessert!!! Those were our fave bites. Loved the music and vibe. Drink menu fun and funky, house made tonic. Fun wine list too.

This was my third, possibly fourth, visit to Mabel's Gone Fishing. I've returned because there is a…read morelot to like here: the quality of the ingredients, the Spanish-Mediterranean flavors, the wine, and especially the G&Ts. We specifically came for the anniversary night after seeing the special tapas and celebration promoted on Instagram. Unfortunately, that experience seemed largely nonexistent for regular patrons. There were plenty of industry people in the room receiving special attention and dishes that weren't on the menu, but for us there was no celebratory amuse-bouche, no special G&T, and none of the anniversary tapas we had expected from the promotion. It felt less like we were attending an anniversary celebration and more like we were outsiders watching an industry party. And about those G&Ts: Mabel's makes its own quinine water, and normally it makes the drink fantastic--the kind where you immediately want another. Tonight, however, the mixture had so much citric acid that it was difficult to enjoy. The food also missed the mark tonight. The pan and tomate was far too thick. When grated tomato is salted and slowly drained, that reserved tomato water is important. As the tomato sits, it becomes dense and almost gelatinous. Adding a little of that reserved liquid back, along with good olive oil and a pinch of salt, would give it back its freshness and texture. Tonight's version was dense, under-seasoned and needed olive oil. The patatas bravas were even more problematic. You're starting with a naturally very dry potato, then frying it, letting it sit and frying it again. The result tonight was dry, over-fried and tough. The skins were also too thick for the preparation. Either peel them or consider a different potato. They would have needed a vat of brava sauce just to bring them back. Finally, the Gilda--one of my favorite starters anywhere--simply had too much going on. Five anchovies (two white and three traditional), one olive and pieces of cut guindilla overwhelmed rather than complemented one another. A simpler combination--perhaps a piece of white tuna, one anchovy, one olive and a whole guindilla--would bring back the balance that makes a Gilda so good. As usual, the wine was great. Our server was nice, and we tipped her in cash for her effort, but the service itself felt almost robotic rather than warm or celebratory. Three stars for effort and ambiance, and because I know from previous visits that Mabel's can do much better than what we experienced tonight. The biggest disappointment wasn't simply the food--it was coming specifically for a publicly promoted anniversary celebration and leaving feeling like the actual celebration was reserved for the industry crowd.
