    Gyro - Falafel
    Carle W.

This was so delicious! We are from out of town but vacation here yearly. This place randomly popped up when I was looking for a lunch spot. We got our wraps to do but the seating looked clean and there were a good amount of tables. The staff was so nice and even offered to let us taste the various salads if we were interested in buying any. The person at the register was so sweet and was even offering tips on how to eat a gyro to some people in front of us who have never had one. Definitely keeping this place in mind for future visits!

Absolutely amazing food. Delicious and very filling. Get the house sauce with the fries, you won't be sorry. The owners and staff are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. The chef even made falafel samples for us to try.

Meh... two pieces of gyro meat. Very "subway" feel to this place. Portions are not up to par with the price. People of southeastern CT need to experience more than what is in this area. Nice customer service.

Wow. This is the best Greek I have had. Next time I'm in town I will be requesting Pick Pockets for lunch.

There were 6 of us for brunch and none of us had been here before. The Shipwright's Daughter rivals many excellent experiences we had and surpasses most. The staff was super friendly and did everything they could to make our experience memorable. The brunch menu offers a nice assortment of options as we had one member in our party who had some eating restrictions. We started off with both raw and roasted oysters, both of which, we some of the best we have ever had. I love Shashuka. I've never had it with tomatillos. This version is now my favorite. I enjoyed the play between savory and acid. I chose my eggs to be prepared over easy expecting the yolks to add the desired richness that tomatillos can handle without overpowering their bite. What set this version apart for me was the addition of the pickled vegetables. They greatly complimented the tomatillos with their own sweetness and acidity that made for a well balanced bite. Others in our party felt similarly, that their meals were so flavorful and so well execucted that it made for a superb dining experience.

Even though the name (Kawa) and menu have changed a bit over time, the heart of this place has never changed--and that's what keeps us coming back. One thing that truly stands out is that this is a family‑owned restaurant, and you can feel the care, pride, and love they put into their food and service. It adds a level of warmth and authenticity that you just don't get everywhere. Our group ordered a wide range of dishes, and not a single plate was left with food on it. Several guests tried the special fried rice, while one had the chicken fried rice. Everyone loved their meals so much that I even ordered an extra fried rice to take home. We also enjoyed a great selection of sushi, including a few rolls we had never tried before. Their sushi roll prices are the best in the area, yet the quality remains consistently excellent. The sashimi we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and did not disappoint. One guest ordered the noodles with shrimp and said it was the best they'd ever had. To top it off, the restaurant has a surprisingly wide variety of Asian beers at very reasonable prices. The beers we tried were a big hit with the group and paired perfectly with the food. The service was another highlight of the night. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, patient, and on top of everything our large party needed. Managing a group of 14 isn't easy, but he handled it flawlessly and made us feel well cared for. My fiancé asked him a lot of questions on some of dishes and he was very knowledgeable. After more than a decade of visiting, this birthday dinner reminded me exactly why this place has remained one of our family favorites. Delicious food, great prices, warm service, and the heart of a family‑owned business that truly values what they do. Highly recommend for both special occasions and everyday meals. The Rigatoni ($28), a pasta with Bolognese in a cream emulsion, frozen in time due to its salt preservation technique, was indistinguishable in size from its appetizer counterparts. One example of such includes the Fried Calamari ($20), and the Fried Mozzarella ($15), both of which came under-seasoned and under-portioned in the vie for freshness and seashore "vibes", leading to a spectacular disgracement to its 'Mariner' title. It is unclear thus far into the lore who this restaurant is intended for. A romantic date where each party tries to look less hungry than the other? A local photographer trying to flaunt Shutterstock photos on its faux-wood bulkheads? Whoever the audience may be, it certainly does not include people looking for heartily assembled food, who also happen to be hungry. Of course, blame does not go without acknowledging my naivety of hoping a reliable cash cow in trigger-happy wealthy Mystic, would strive for improvement. Who am I to look for change where the money just isn't demanding any semblance of quality for what the ambience implies?

You do have the option of sitting at a countertop with six bar stools. You order your food at the counter and then they bring it to you. The menu is quite large for such a small place. The lobster roll was 4 ounces of lobster on a brioche roll. We eat it hot and it was delicious! The bun makes the roll a little larger than what it appears in the photo. It was accompanied with a bag of potato chips. Very pricey at $29. But the soft roll the tender lobster and the hot butter made it overall worth the price. I would give this place 4.5 stars. No oysters that day. But what they did have more than made up for it. The lobster roll was one of the best I've had--jam-packed with fresh lobster, served hot with butter, and absolutely delicious. Paired with a simple bag of Cape Cod chips, it was the perfect New England lunch. I also tried the clam chowder, which was the Rhode Island style. Unlike the creamy New England version or the tomato-based Manhattan style, this was a clear clam broth that really let the flavor of the fresh clams shine through. Clean, briny, and authentic.
