So happy I had dinner at this wonderful restaurant in Rome. Tucked away on a candle light street way, it's easy to savor every last morsel of an amazing Italian meal. The Barolo we decided to try opened up and became the most layered well balanced wine we have had on this trip to Italy. Paired excellent with the truffled pasta, (these were not tiny shavings of truffles like you get in Napa, I'm saying the thickness of salami from the deli, see my pic). Also ordered the meatloaf, which is veal and pork formed into a large patty and the absolutely doused in the creamiest blanc/basil sauce you could imagine. We are talking rub it all over your body and lick it off good. Don't forget to soak every last piece of bread they bring to the table in that top of the line vinegar & oil. We had our first and last meals here and it was the perfect beginning and ending to our trip. You get a free glass of Prosecco when you get seated or while waiting. The fried artichoke is a must for an appetizer. For pasta the black truffle pasta, carbonara and the lasagna were all fantastic. Throughout our trip we must have had 5 different carbonaras and this was the best we had. The tiramisu was perfect. The service was excellent. All the waiters who served us were very polite, patient and helpful. Stumbled upon Piccolo Arancio by sheer luck as it was tucked away in a quiet street just minutes away from the always hustling and bustling Trevi fountain, and I am so happy to say that this was a TOTAL RARE GEM of a find. This quaint, charming little restaurant was by far my favorite during my month-long stay in Rome, and I will definitely be returning in the near future, and would recommend it to anyone who visits Roma. Upon my party's arrival, we were automatically served with complimentary prosecos. Service was also fantastic here and we were made very welcomed and at ease with the intimate, cosy ambience that Piccolo Arancio cultivates. At very reasonable prices (~10 Euros each), we each ordered pasta dishes and a starter to share, served with UNLIMITED warm bread and bread sticks (1.5 euros per person) that they kept refilling. We took full advantage of the bread and savored every drop of the delicious pasta sauce with it ( albeit a seemingly "barbaric" practice in typical Italian food culture). 1. Carciofo alla Romana ( Artichokes in Roman Style) Dissimilar to its Jewish counterpart which is traditionally breaded and deep fried, the Roman-styled artichokes are cooked to a soft tenderness and drizzled in olive oil. Could be relatively bland at first taste, but the dish really does grow on you and the artichokes are fabulously in season at the moment. 2. Gnocchi al Salmone The gnocchi was cooked to perfection as it was fluffy and light, doused in a creamy delicious sauce with sprinkled salmon. 3. Ravioli all Arancia The ravioli was delightfully dressed in a tangy sauce that carried the zestiness of the restaurant's namesake - Arancia (orange). An unexpected combination, but delicious nonetheless. We were served with complimentary biscotti at the end of our meal, and honestly at around 15 Euros per person with a starter, main dish and a bottle of wine to share, this was a complete steal and one of the best dining experiences I have had in Rome thus far. I could eat it every day! Atmosphere is definitely more of a Mom and pop restaurant which I love. The restaurants with a ton of decorations are tourist traps so I tend to avoid those! Piccolo Arancio was a much needed delight, a beautiful meal in a quaint little restaurant where the wine flowed and you could feel joy in the air. The food was by far the best we had in Rome and if I could have eaten a different dish there every night, I would have. The staff was friendly and we knew the food would be great when we were the only English speaking table. The atmosphere was full of locals enjoying a great dinner and the staff was always helpful and ready to provide whatever you needed. The location was a little tricky to find especially when we were only relying on paper maps and no GPS. But we managed and so will you! It's well worth the wait if there is one and its location is really close to the Trevi Fountain but it's not a tourist trap like other locations. A somewhat hidden gem. Piccolo is tucked away on a small street/alley and impossible for a non-local to stumble upon on his or her own. I was only able to find this place myself because I wasn't happy with the generic options filled with tourists on the big non hidden streets. I did a quick search on yelp and trip advisor, and wa-la! Don't fall for the tourist trappy-like restaurants on the big streets near the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain guys! Spend a little bit of time, do some research and you'll find great establishments hidden just a minute or two away from the tourist traps ;) The restaurant itself is very big and separates into two sections. It gets crowded easily and many are willing to wait around for an outdoor table to free up. Our kind waiter knew we wanted to sit outside and actually took a table and chairs from inside the restaurant out to the streets for us! Food was amazing. Wine was amazing. We were also served a glass of complimentary prosecco each. Bread baskets are NOT* complimentary and like many restaurants in Rome, they don't really give you the option to say no. The basket just comes without you asking. I believe it was 2.5 Euros on our bill for the basket. Pasta is made in house and all ingredients used tasted incredibly fresh and earthy. I sort of suck because this review is long overdue from May 2015 and I can't even remember the names of the dishes we had. Note the seafood pasta in my pics as amazing though. This place is cute. There are a few outdoor seats and just a few tables inside. However, the food is where it's at. Came here on my last night in Rome and was excited to see what was cooking. Also, this place is Yelp friendly with a complimentary glass of Prosecco (with check-in, of course)! The food: Grilled Octopus Salad- The ingredients were fresh, and served cold, which was great. However, it lacked salt and some acid. Seafood Risotto (sub rice for noodles)- So... a seafood linguine? Basically. Again, good flavors, but nothing mind blowing. Spaghetti alla clams- This I really enjoyed! Light, (or as light as pasta can be), not too overly oily, al dente noodles... Great flavor! Carbonara- Overly salty! As it got cold, it lacked the smooth consistency. Aka, it got chucky... Overall, this place is a nice restaurant to check out, away from the tourists. The food here was great! We got here around 9pm and it was full but the waiters were very good at finding people seats, even setting up new tables. We waited about 15 minutes since it is on the small side. We got the free prosseco deal from yelp and the food came out quickly. I have to say that this is one of the best restaurants that we ate at while in Rome. This little hidden gem is tucked away on a side street not more than 10 minutes from Trevi fountain. The key is it is away from the hustle and bustle, and far less touristy. We arrived pretty late on a Thursday evening and our server Matteo, ensured that we were seated promptly, and felt like we were at home. He spoke great English, so communication was a breeze. Another bonus was the outdoor seating, and not getting charged for it. The prices are on par with the area, but the food is far superior than the "English Menu" places. They also have wifi, just ask for the code. We had several dishes, everything was amazing, but dessert was heaven! The best Tiramisu I have ever had..hands down. Great restaurant tucked away in a non-busy alleyway near the Trevi Fountain. I would highly recommend stopping here either before or after a visit to the fountain. It doesn't get too busy because it's slightly hidden, but you'll get your fair share of both Italian people and tourists. We were greeted with free prosecco and promptly sat down. We ordered a .5 liter of wine that cost only 7 euro (about 5-6 glasses total!). The pasta was fresh, savory, and just delicious, and the sauce tasted homemade and not like any that I've ever had. On our last evening in Rome, we visited this establishment. First of all, although it is within a couple of blocks of the Trevi Fountain, it is definitely off of the beaten path. Walking up this side street, which was lit with candles on the ground, we entered this small, but lovely, establishment. I'm so glad we found this! For starters we tried a mozzarella Di buffalo which was one of the worse I had to try in Italy (very dry and industrial). This is right next to an excellent hotel called Palazzo Scanderbeg. This is a very small restaurant in a small alleyway about 10 minutes walk from the Trevi fountain. Food here is a very good and the service is excellent. Make sure you make a reservation before you come because it is very crowded. The waiters were nice and the food was delicious. My husband and I were staying at an AirBnB above the restaurant and this restaurant was mentioned in the review so we decided to eat here. This is a small restaurant and always busy so make sure you make reservations. The staff speaks English and are very friendly. With that said, service in Rome is not the same as in the US. People take their time to eat here so don't expect the server to check up on you every 15 minutes and hand you your bill in 45 minutes. If you need something, just ask. Service charge is included in your bill so tipping is not expected unless you want to. Ok as far as food goes, we ate here twice because it is that good! We ordered the buffalo buratta with tomatoes and fried zucchini flowers with mozzarella. Their pastas are amazing. If you like simple pasta dishes, try their cacio e pepe and Italian clams with spaghetti. We drank the house white wine with our meal. Second time around, we had lamb and steak with grilled vegetables and a small arugula salad topped with cheese. Some grilled vegetables and paired it with their house red wine. Again, we followed Yelp reviews to this rather charming restaurant up a dark alley off the Main Street. It's actually nicely separated from the hustle and bustle of the busy street nearby. And, like many Italian restaurants, outdoor seating is shared with cars driving very closely by. We opened with high hopes. My wife had a very nice prosciutto and melon, and I had a very fresh burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil. both were decent, but nothing special. the burrata came as a bag, wrapped at the top, and full of milky liquid when it was burst. The tomatoes and basil were fresh. But, the combination was almost without flavor, other than the natural tastes of the ingredients. Maybe Americans are used to more seasoning, or just not tuned to simple natural tastes. But, this just seemed flat. Oddly, no bread was offered or served, although olive oil and balsamic were provided. My wife's main course was a bowl of minestrone, heavy on potatoes, which was unusual, and very fresh. I had the bucatini amatriciana, which is a pork flavored pasta, in this case offered with bits of well fried bacon. Again, in other iterations of this dish, there is usually a good deal of garlic and big flavor up front from the pork fat. In this case, the flavors were really lacking. The pasta was cooked al detente, which was fine. But, there was simply no chemistry between the ingredients to lift this dish to the glorious taste it can be. It just didnt come together. We finished with a panna cotta finished with mixed berries. This was a really good panna cotta, with wonderful texture and great sweetness from the berries and light jam. the presentation was special. We ordered wine by the glass, which was average. the wine tasted like the bottles had been opened for sometime, and really lacked fruity freshness. The service was not very attentive, which is a practice we have noticed in several Italian restaurants....maybe people are just moving more slowly, or maybe the staff just isn't very motivated....a little more attention and engagement would be nice. Piccolo arancio definitely is wearing its name. It is piccolo, small and bad in all aspects. The local is tiny. The chairs and tables and table cloth are so old and ugly. The local itself has nothing cute, no decoration. Passing through a not very clean kitchen to go through another tinier room to eat. You have to be very flexible with your body to be able to sit and get up again. Food was okay but this means for me just eatable, so good is definitely much much better than what we have. Service is not particularly friendly, it is also bad. I mean it is not even closed to home made cooking which tastes thousand times better. The Food was totally tasteless and the Wine was very bad. Such a dishonor to the Italian cuisine. It is Bad we finished the trip with such bad experience as we had great others dining and lunch experiences in Rome. Please do not go there, there are so many other Restaurants in Roma really really good for the same price. On top, at the end, the Invoice was not correct, they were charging for something we did not have and they have the arrogance to automatically charge you 10 % service charge for such a shitty show which of course you do not have to pay if you are unsatisfied. read more

Well, stumbled up this quiet street right off the Trevi Fountain after a very late arrival at the hotel. Was greeted warmly at 11pm and received excellent service and the food was great. So great, after a long day of sightseeing Rome, we went back last night, without a reservation, and they squeezed us in (don't recommend that). They have a place to eat across the road which may seem strange, but you're in Rome, so....you just go with it. They have a huge wine selection, it's all around you. A small restaurant in a hidden lane out of tourists beaten tracks even though it's located right in the heart of Rome. A few hundred meters from the world famous Trevi Fountain and along the road to the Spanish Steps, where thousands of people walk every day, but placed on a small side street with no apparent attraction, this little gem has been able to keep the local flavor without having been contaminated by the consumerist rules of the city center. The place is pretty small, with a few tables both indoor and outdoor, and the staff polite and competent. Food is delicious, featuring either some classic Roman dish and some more modern mix of flavors (try for instance the ravioli with orange flavored creamy sauce). Eat here. You'll get very good service from fairly fluent English-speaking waiters. You'll get to order from a comprehensive menu of Roman standards. What you order will be well-prepared. The staff will immediately understand that you might want to share a pasta or dessert. They bring a glass of prosecco when you sit down and, if they recognize you, some biscotti at the end of the meal. If you want a glass of wine, you're not limited to some unknown "house white." You can actually order from a variety of bottles. Piccolo Arancio is far better than any of the tourist places near the Trevi Fountain and the prices are quite reasonable. In the early evening, most of the clientele are foreign; later, Italians show up. It's a good choice as your "go-to" restaurant in Rome. read more

Amazing food. TERRIBLE service. We asked for the check 3 times. Our initial waiter never came back to us after taking our order. We had 3 different waiters. The 2nd guy we asked our check decided to have someone else bring us dessert menus instead. I'm actually still sitting here waiting for my check. I've lost count how many times I've asked for it. We also never got the bread we ordered. We waited longer for our check than we spent here for our meal. Again, delicious food - no complaints there. But the lack of service is pretty maddening. Update in real time, we just got the check. Bread is on it though we never received it. It's almost comical at this point. They did give us a couple limoncello but hey, what place doesn't? The food for a "foodie" could be a bit average. The grilled prawns and the fettuccine we had was fresh and nice. The shellfish appetizer with clams and mussels in olive oil was actually quite tasty. However, on the flip side, the risotto was a overcooked. The lamb I had was ok, but a bit tough. Could have been cooked a bit slower to tenderize the meat. The wine selection is not bad and they cover a wide selection of vineyards across Italy. Seems like if you stick to the sea animals here, you would be fine! The Tiramisu was home made and great.
