As I entered Piazza 27, my nostrils were treated to a tapestry of smells that lifted my spirits and warmed my soul. I picked up my pizza and the walk home was much more enjoyable as my hands were warmed by a hot, pepperoni pizza. I entered my home and my wife's eyes lit up, knowing that the spring in my step meant we were in for a treat. I plated us up some slices and took my first bite. The explosion of flavor made me pause a moment to reflect of the majesty of God's creation. I savored each bite of that first slice... the second slice was devoured quickly. I look forward to a time this afternoon when my stomach is empty once again and I can delight in the symphony of flavors delivered expertly by this pizza. I love Pizza. Not like Pizza, but like LOVE pizza. I was pretty interested in checking out Piazza 27, since so many people in the neighborhood were raving about it. Plus, let us be honest, in Mt. Vernon, there aren't many options of GREAT pizza, just good (on a really drunk night- Good). We ordered an extra cheese and buffalo wings, because honestly, the best way to suss out a pizza place is to get minimal toppings so you can really get an idea of it. The crust was the right amount of soft and crunchy. Sauce was flavorful but without taking away from the pizza. AND THEY USE AMAZING REAL CHEESE. Buffalo wings were also pretty good, but the pizza was the real winner of the meal. We took pizza for carry out, and were very please with the service. Everyone was helpful and quick. I've written previous reviews to help potential customers learn what's good (and what's not) at Piazza27. Their Pizza's are excellent - 5 star rating. Some of their pasta's are excellent, such as the Fettuccine Bolognese. In my recent review I focused on their Piazza 27 Salad, which began as excellent. A really great salad with grilled chicken strips and very large shrimp. 5 star rating. Then they switched the shrimp from large to tiny, limp shrimp. Probably to save money and hold the price during this inflationary period. I told them they were making a big mistake. With little shrimp, I'm not buying it. With large shrimp, even at more cost, I'll buy it. They listened. You can get the large shrimp, but you have to ask for it. Now to my current review. I love Linguine and Clams. The best I've had in Mt. Vernon is at Marie Louise Bistro. So I thought I'd give the Piazza 27 version a try. Not terrible, but not excellent either. 3 stars. First, they substituted spaghetti for Linguine. Second, the clams came un-shelled. More work for me, and actually ok since there were lots of them, but I'd prefer them out of their shells. But the biggest downer was the white clam sauce. Not a lot of flavor. Not terrible, but far short of Marie Louise Bistro, and only a few dollars less. 3 stars. I do like the restaurant, and they are our "go to" place for Pizza (brick oven, home made crust). Still exploring the rest of the menu. read more

My sister had a concert at the cathedral across the street, so afterwards my family came here for dinner. It's a small pizza place, run by people with Italian accents! Although the place is not very large, there are a few booths and I never felt cramped. My family and I ordered mozzarella sticks, 12" chicken pesto pizza, and 12" Piazza 27 pizza (which had pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers). Everything was good and it was the right amount of food for 5 people. However, my family doesn't eat very much so if I'd recommend maybe an extra appetizer or upgrading to the 16" pizza for a family with a *healthier* appetite. read more

Never on Sunday is more convenient to my location, but like the slices at Piazza 27 better so always make the "trek" a couple blocks down the way. This place has been such a bummer. I've gone a few times because I live nearby and it has great reviews, but each time I'm disappointed. The pizza isn't terrible, but a frozen pizza would be better and cheaper. The crust is soggy, and somehow the pizza lacks flavor even when loaded with meat and veggies. The caprese is inauthentic (why are there peppers and iceberg lettuce in it?) and sad. The last time I did take out, my order was wrong and there was a little black hair on the pizza. Tried this place on 3 different occasions. In short, Mount Vernon has pizza places that are significantly better for the same price. Ingredients are not great quality, mushrooms are canned mushrooms. I don't know if the 2guys I see all the time are new owners or have always been around, but since I started seeing only them in the restaurant it's service and quality of food has skyrocketed in my opinion. There is no other carryout in this area that I would recommend over Piazza. Every single item my wife and I have gotten we have been pleased with. Not to mention the fact that they are accommodating and took my order 5minutes before closing and were ok with it. My only complaint is that they aren't open 7days a week. read more

I really don't understand all the high ratings??? I just ordered a pizza for delivery via GrubHub, & it was an utter disaster! Ordered a half meat lovers, half pepperoni, mushrooms, & extra cheese. The most important part of the pizza for me is the CHEESE... well, this one had none! There was absolutely no cheese on the meat lovers side so it was like eating meat on a bland tortilla. You can see that everyone coming out this place has a giant smile on their face. The owner has a well-known experience in this business, and he definitely knows how to make a very good Pizza! Went to this place on a Friday night. My initial impression of the store is it is very tidy and clean. It does not have the smoky smell that most of the pizza places have that will eventually stink your clothes. Service is nice and friendly. They even allow me to order a half-half pizza with two different sauce bases. We ordered half chicken pesto pizza and half PIAZZA 27 pizza, fries, calamari, and a cannoli, none of them failed me. Fries and calamari came first as starters; both were perfectly fried with no extra greasiness. The batter used for the calamari was neither too thick nor soggy. Fries was crispy up on the outside while staying fluffy on the inside. I like the chicken pesto pizza over the PIAZZA 27 (don't get me wrong, I liked both). They use chicken breast over thigh on the chicken pesto pizza, which made it a little bit dry but the flavors were on point and it's healthier, I guess? PIAZZA 27 was good, with various kinds of protein and veggie on it. I just wish they put more cheese on it. I mean, who doesn't like cheese... last but not least, their cannoli is BOMB! read more

We ordered pasta with the creamy pesto and a veggie calzone. The pasta was tasty! Good sauce, generous portion. The description of the calzone states that it has spinach mozzarella and ricotta cheese, but actually had TONS of green peppers, mushrooms, and onions with barely any spinach. My stomach+mushrooms=bad issues, so I wasn't even able to eat it. It looked delicious and was a good size, but I feel as though you should advertise what is actually in it for people with allergies/sensitivities/just picky eaters. I'd be willing to eat the pasta again, but definitely not delivery and only eating in so I can be sure I'm ordering food I can actually ingest. read more

Alright guys and gals - this place is officially a hidden gem in MV. When I saw ANOTHER pizza joint opening up in the hood I thought "damn, really?". I am pleasantly surprised because this is NOT "just another pizza joint". Why do you ask? Food quality: The food quality is WAY superior than the other pizza places in the neighborhood. The pasta here is honestly on par, if not BETTER than sit-in, dine-in "fancier" places. The bolannaise is legggittt, its best pasta I've had in Baltimore REGARDLESS of price point. The clams in the other pasta dish were FRESH and plentiful. I'm from the Northeast and when I moved to Baltimore I was disappointed with the Pizza in town until this place came along. The pizza here is definitely more in the style i'm used to that you would find in NYC/NJ/CT/Boston Italian neighborhoods. Picture a thin crunchy crust that still manages to have a chew to it (versus the more doughy/bready and often under-cooked types you'd find elsewhere in MV). I've also noted a few other north easterners here who echo my opinion on this! What I also like is you can just stop in for a quick slice of za and hop out in under 5 minutes (something the last place didn't do) Price point is also great. Like i said, the pasta here is literally just as good if not better than any sit down fancier Italian restaurant, and to have that quality and taste for the price points they hit is amazing. (10-15 bucks) Customer Service: This is where they earn the 5 stars. These guys really try to please their customers and it shows. They did to me anyway. Ordered delivery. Dessert items were supposed to be rice pudding and cannolis. Received cheesecake and cannolis. Not a huge deal but the three incredibly small cannolis were obviously stored in a freezer for months and thawed for service. Tasty horrible. No resemblance of a cannoli shell or cream. This is just good, old-fashioned pizza parlor pizza. It's a great neighborhood place to go where you can get a cheese pizza and two fountain drinks for $20 including tip. The people are always nice and it's very clean. Haven't had any of the pasta dishes but we have also enjoyed the calamari and sandwiches. read more
