Alright, let me start out by saying that this place really took my friends and I by surprise. We wanted to try a pizza place that also served a nice dish of pasta and boy did we STRIKE GOLD! I love my girlfriend for coming across this hidden GEM! I was born in Naples, Italy and grew up watching my father run his own Italian restaurant and make his famous mozzarella cheese. I live in America now but my family in Italy still runs a wildly successful mozzarella factory, so my standards are very high when it comes to Italian food. The 4 of us decided to order a bunch of food and share everything. From the moment we stepped into the door we were greeted with warmth. I'm not sure if our waiter was also the manager or owner but he was outstanding. Everything we asked for, another glass of wine, parmesan cheese, extra plates, beers...He brought to us quick as lightning. On to the food. We ordered the calamari and smoked mozzarella appetizers and both were outstanding. Their bread tasted wonderful especially dipped in their own olive oil with freshly cracked peppercorn. My friend especially enjoyed her glass of Sauvignon Blanc, she mentioned that she could probably drink the whole bottle if she could keep eating and not get full from the amazing food. For the entrees we shared the linguini seafood special with a light buttery garlic sauce and it was gone in seconds. Perfectly al dente, perfectly seasoned and the seafood tasted so fresh, nostalgic feeling bringing back the memories of eating fresh seafood pasta on beach summer nights in Mondragone. The Calabrese and Buffalo Milk Mozzarella pizzas were delicious and my friend at one moment stated "Wow I really love this pizza, do you mind if I have that last slice?!" We also decided to get the other linguini seafood pasta with jumbo prawns. It was succulent and we sucked that plate dry to the bone mopping up every last drop of marinara sauce with bread. Saving the best for last...my lifetime favorite...gnocchi! Let me just state that dozens of times in my life I have gone to Italian restaurants leaving disappointed that having a feeling that nobody in America knows how to make real gnocchi. I can still imagine taste of my grandmothers homemade gnocchi, the smell of her making it fresh from scratch in the morning, rolling it through flour. That taste never leaves you once you have had it and I have been searching for years and years for a place to satisfy my craving across the ocean. Once I saw the way it looked I had a tingling sensation wondering "could this Be it?! It really does look the part, does it taste the part too?!" first bite into my mouth and wow...it was so fresh and soft and fluffy and just perfectly cooked. Do not recommend for delivery. No utensils or napkins in the bag (delivery address was a hotel). It arrived 20 minutes later than the original order timeframe. The container was smashed and half the sauce was in the bottom of the bag. The food seemed tasty but it's hard to tell eating with my fingers. The chocolate soufflé had fallen on its side and half the chocolate goop had oozed out of its container too. Bad part about GrubHub and the like is you tip before the service is provided. I visited this place because I was really looking for a brick oven pizza joint. When I arrived, the place had a nice vibe going on. Seating area outside and a lively atmosphere inside. Unfortunately, I can't say anything else good about this place. The pizza wasn't good, bland, and soupy sauce. Very blah. I tried to customize my own pie, but they didn't give me an option that allowed me to do so. I was disappointed by that. So I ordered a personal pie from their menu, because I was pretty hungry. Sad to say, I didn't even finish it. As you can imagine, I was ready to blow this joint. Decided to ask for my bill. The bartender, who was nice by the way, failed to tell me that they ONLY take cash and AMEX. What???? My first response, was are you serious? What is this 1980? What major establishment doesn't take VISA or MasterCard? But oddly enough, they had an ATM machine in the bathroom that you can use to get cash. Yes, that's right, I said in the bathroom. To be honest, didn't really enjoy my meal here. Everything seemed maybe 10-20% overpriced for what we were getting, and some of the dishes just weren't that good. I came with a group of 5 people and we ordered dishes family style b/c we wanted to try a lot of stuff, but some of the pasta dishes took SO long to come out and the portions were quite small. Highlights: - Parpadelle with wild boar ragu: This was actually amazing; perfectly cooked pasta in a delicious ragu sauce. It also came out almost instantly after we ordered it. - Seafood pasta: This was some kind of special. It came with tons of seafood and the tomato sauce it came in was really nicely seasoned. - Gnocchi: I'm not a huge gnocchi person but the other people at the table really liked it. It was extremely soft and the basil pesto sauce it came in was pretty good too. Lowlights: - Tomato bruschetta: Extremely overpriced and very meh. It was something like $8 for two pieces of grilled bread, tomatoes, and olive oil. Barely tasted like it had any salt or any other flavors. - Linguine w/ clams: All I could taste was olive oil. It didn't have any of the typical seafood/clam flavor that this pasta usually comes with. - Truffle/mushroom pasta: I forget the actual name of this pasta but it's the only one of the menu of this type. I recommend skipping it. It's pricey b/c of the truffles but there really isn't that much truffle flavor (or mushroom flavor, for that matter). It was just salty. Located in between Chinatown and Little Italy, Piacere is open very late, as in all the way until 2AM. Its primarily a wine bar, but they also serve really good Italian food. For my first pasta, I ordered the Taglierini porcini e tartufo. Its basically a Linguine-like pasta served with fragrant mushrooms and truffles in a olive oil and garlic sauce. This was so RICH in flavor!! I was amazed at just how much the mushrooms and truffles really added to the pasta. I was ravenous tonite, so I ordered a second pasta. I went with my favorite dish, the Linguine Vongole. Another superb job here as well, the clams were plentiful and had this nice, almost sweet and savory seafood like aroma to them. I'm giving this bad review because 1 thing about the service completely ruined my experience: I feel I was deceived by the waitstaff when they did not inform me that they had automatically added gratuity to my party's bill. As a result I unknowingly tipped ~45% when I intended to tip 20%, and given the size of the bill, that meant overspending by $100. For the record - I think it's fine to automatically add gratuity to parties of 6 or more BUT YOU HAVE TO LET PEOPLE KNOW! Instead, nobody said anything, and that policy was not written anywhere. The gratuity line in the itemized check was hiding amongst the ~30 other lines of food/beverages we ordered. When it came time to sign - the receipt didn't ask for "Additional Gratuity," it just said "Gratuity." I feel taken advantage of and I simply cannot recommend this restaurant to anybody. read more

Our last night in NYC, we wanted pizza and pasta but did not want a touristy spot in Little Italy. It was early, 6:45 on a Saturday night, so we got lucky and there was no wait. The place had a cool, laid back vibe and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. My husband and I had red wine the server recommended and our kids 5 and 8 ordered sodas, all they have are organic sodas so they both picked the ginger ale. It tasted more like ginger beer but it was good. We started with the beef carpaccio, it was very fresh and had a great flavor, my 8 year old daughter wanted a second order. We also ordered Quattro Formaggio and Margherita pizzas, a Rigatoni Special with onion and bacon red sauce, and linguini with butter. The Quattro Formaggio pizza was awesome, it's served with a spicy olive oil on the side that adds just a little kick. The Margherita was good but there was hardly any basil on it. Both pasta dishes were great, the noodles cooked perfectly al dente. The rigatoni special had a rich flavor, even the plain buttered linguini tasted fantastic! My only issue with the rigatoni was that the bacon pieces were not small and they were pretty much all chewy fat. It added wonderful flavor to the dish but I couldn't eat them. We were too full for dessert, we had to take half of the Margherita pizza with us. There are tables out front and the front windows slide open so it feels almost like one continuous space. The bathroom is cool, my favorite part was the mannequin legs tp holders. If you want fantastic Italian food without the over-the-top cheesiness of Little Italy, eat here. read more

Excellent tomato sauce, decent thin crust, downhill from there--there's enough salt on this pizza to give someone high blood pressure who doesn't have it LOL, and the ingredient portions and cheese quantity for a $17 personal pizza is absurd. Flavor matters in pizza, but so does the fact that it's so cheap to make that you shouldn't rip people off even if you have rustic looking tables and have seemingly authentic Italian accents--which the waiter did, but funny enough looked like he was from Central America. To add insult to injury, they added their own tip to the bill... Go to Lombardi's up the street, they never disappoint. Wish we had but my tourist niece dragged me over here based on lame Yelp averages, and I live here so I should've known better. read more

I visited Piacere on Christmas weekend for a pretty late dinner. We were hungry, cold, and ready to eat. We had a reservation but it wasn't too busy. The restaurant atmosphere was a bit more casual than I thought. I was craving something really creamy and cheesy but the waiter said they don't make any pastas with a cream base, which is find. One of the few specials he offered that was not on the regular menu was carbonara pasta. So we ordered the carbonara and a pizza (Salsiccia Fung) with two beers. They mixed up our order and brought out the wrong pasta at first. We shared the pizza and finished it among the two of us before the pasta came out because it wasn't that big. The carbonara came out but the portion was pretty small too. So we ordered another pasta (truffle mushroom pasta). The carbonara had a ton of bacon! The truffle pasta I was a bit more disappointed with. Both dishes were not bad but not what we had expected it to be. Also, we got our bill and found out that Carbonara is $21.95??? We didn't know this when we ordered because it wasn't listed on the menu. I estimated it to be much cheaper because their other pastas, including seafood pasta, ranged from $16-20ish. Considering that all it takes for a carbonara is some eggs, pasta, cheese, and bacon I was shocked it was priced higher than their seafood loaded pasta. Also, please be aware that they INCLUDE gratuity on their bill (Which the owner says was a mistake on the waiters below..? - is this not more problematic?) We didn't catch this until later and ended up tipping twice. We spent a total of $140 for two people.. I don't mind paying the money for good food/experience but I'm unsure the experience I had was worth that much. My boyfriend and I stopped in here for our Saturday date night this weekend.. Piacere had been in my bookmarks for a while now and they did not disappoint! We were greeted and immediately sat inside- there were plenty of seats open both inside and outside despite it being prime dinner time. I got the gnocchi with red sauce and basil and my boyfriend opted for the San Daniele pizza. The pasta was amazing! The sauce was light and tasted so fresh, the gnocchi itself cooked perfectly. My boyfriend also enjoyed his pizza, though it was on the smaller side for the bottomless pit that is his stomach, and he was still a bit hungry when we left. They brought a super tasty spicy olive oil for the pizza! The service was great- I couldn't be happier with that. The pricing is more reasonable than most Italian restaurants I've been to & it's located not far from the Main Street in Little Italy! This is definitely a spot you don't want to pass up! read more

I am somewhat known to be a "foodie" and love to explore restaurants wherever my travels take me...my favorite type are the ones that show a quiet pride in the simplest of details and in their art/craftsmanship of cooking. That is exactly what Piacere is all about! All the flavors and textures truly "pop"in your mouth! My two teenage boys and I set out to find this place after doing some sight seeing and reading wonderful reviews...even though we were exhausted and had gotten turned around....(our bus had delayed and we had finally set out on foot) we "knew" this was going to be the right place for us! And it was! Marco, the restaurant owner made us feel welcomed right away and took such wonderful care of us! Perfectly textured pizza with amazing sauces and seasoning...we ended up ordering more it was so good! If you like a little or a lot of extra heat/oomph be sure and try some of their "secret" recipe- a flavorful gorgeous amber colored infused olive oil that really would go well with almost anything! Piacere is... well first of all, it's in a somewhat quiet area. It's not located exactly in little italy, which should tell you that it's not one of those tourist trap locations. Still, it's very popular, as when I came by (it was a long time ago actually), it was completely full. I got a pepperoni pizza to go here, back when I first moved to new york. I didn't actually think the pizza was that bad, but it was pretty underwhelming given what I paid for it. I think I probably paid close to $20 for a pizza for one (a pepperoni), and I just didn't think it was very good value. It was Christmastime and we were in Little Italy. As if that right there wasn't enough to make the night super magical, we decided to stop by this cozy, adorable little spot on Broome for a delicious pickup to warm us up. It was perfect! It was my first time ordering takeout via Eat24 right from the Yelp app. The whole process was super simple. The order was ready and waiting when promised and everything was piping hot and packaged securely. We split the gnocchi pomodoro and tomato pie. Oh deliciousness!!! We didn't make it out of this section of town before we scarfed it all down. So, so yummy! The place was so sweet and cozy. It had an underground feel to it. Dark at night with candles, rustic tables, exposed brick walls all which can be seen from the street through the floor to ceiling Windows. It was louder but not in a bad way. It was in a "this is a really great, fun atmosphere" way with wine glasses clanking and people laughing. It definitely made me want to return and actually dine inside next time. Good vibes. Oh, and they have outdoor seating as well in warmer weather. Getting here was half the fun. Sure, if you are walking from Midtown Manhattan, taking MTA Subway, and walking more. I mean it, so take your time and enjoy the ride. ( or simply, take UBER/LYFT). You'll sink your fork into Piacere with its superb food at more than fairly and affordable prices. And a little charm wouldn't hurt, either. Piacere offers authentic and fabulous Italian dishes, from their thin-crust pizza (Nando?) to tasty tiramisu. I had the Taglierini with porcini and truffle, and yes, I did it again. I ordered and enjoyed another dish that I can't pronounce! It was incredibly delicious, and filling. If you are a fan of tiramisu, I advise you to save some room for it. Side Notes: - Check out the bathroom. It's cool: There's two half body Mannequins, Marilyn Monroe on the wall, and there's an ATM on the wall, since Piacere only accepts cash and Amex. - No reservation is needed. Caution to the wind, this place is cash or Amex only. My friend and I had a long day of walking, and by dinner time we had carbs on the brain. What better carbs than pasta in Little Italy? We picked Piacare because we saw it had some substantial positive reviews. But maybe we were overly optimistic because it was a slight let down at the end of the night. And to be honest, my meal wasn't anything spectacular. I ordered the taglierini and was expecting something close to the taglierini I had in Italy (at least based on what I read from prior reviews). Meh. Just meh. No where near what I had at the motherland, but not the worst I had in the US. Portions were aight - so if you're hungry like we were, make sure you order enough. We would've placed seconds, but we were so underwhelmed that we ended up leaving and having dinner part 2 elsewhere. Would we come back to Piacere? I first came upon Piacere in November of 2014! I was in New York with my sister and this place was walking distance from our friend's place where we were staying. We had one of those nights that only New York visitors can have and appreciate (because New Yorkers are spoiled and have this allllll the time so they take it for granted) -- a late night dinner where you go big right off the bat and order 3 appetizers, incredibly delicious pizza, pasta, wine barrels for days, dessert... and by the end of the night you're delirious with food and wine and you think I will never forget this place. Ever. No need to review it now or make a note of the name. But because you're in New York it's stimulation overload and you have another 15 experiences just as amazing as this one and now you're back in California, years have passed, and you can't remember the name of the place. I kinda forgot about Piacere until I stumbled upon it again the summer of 2018. OMG. It's the pizza place with the long red booth seating and the bar with all the stools, and it's cash only, and the pizza is glorious....!!! I think about Piacere all the time. Horrific service! We were told that we could sit to enjoy a couple of drinks while we waited for a friend. At no point were we told to sit at the bar. There was no issue. That is until the main waiter came by and you could tell he wanted nothing to do with us from the start. When we told him we weren't ordering food (which, again, wasn't an issue with the other waiter), he was a nightmare. He then says "you're not ordering food? Oh, okay, well we have a reservation coming in for this table so you guys will have to move later." We had no problem with that because the only reason we sat at a table is because WE WERE TOLD TO SIT THERE. But this didn't make sense because if we ordered food, where would the reservation people be sent? They'd have to wait for us to finish? This was clearly a ruse to make us go away, and I wish I had. About 5 minutes into our drinks, the waiter returns, says nothing, and just snatches the QR code menu off of our table WITHOUT saying "excuse me. I need to grab this for another table." Nope. Just interrupted our conversation to snatch this thing with no words. Then, the man who was making the food in back would come out to the door or after returning from another table, and just stare at our table clearly upset and bothered that we didn't order their food because we were told it was okay for us to just order drinks. Again, at this point, we feel the passive aggressiveness and just want to finish and go. Another 5 minutes go by and he returns, slaps the check on our table and walks away. 1. We're not done with our drinks and 2. We never even asked for the check -- he didn't even ask if we were all set or needed anything else. He didn't ask if we wanted the check. He just wanted us out. We were not rude or loud or obnoxious. We just simply sat where we were told to sit. I've never been treated so terribly at a restaurant and always treat everyone with respect, especially service people because I work in service myself. I personally handed a 50%+ tip to the kind waiter who originally sat us down to make sure the miserable soul didn't snatch it for himself, but when it comes to the taller, pudgy waiter whose existence seems to be that of misery, AVOID HIM at all costs. Piacere, or "Pleasure", definitely lives up to it's name as they serve Excellent, Excellent, NEAPOLITAN Pizza!! I emphasize "Neapolitan" because the few negative reviews on here were comparing this place to NY-style pizza places like Joe's, Johns, Prince St., etc. And, well, that is a dumb comparison, cause this is a different style of pizza. Sure, I love NY-style pizza and I like those places mentioned, but, this pizza is a Naples-style pizza, so it's different than our US counterpart, but it's excellent nonetheless. You can tell they use high quality ingredients, and their pizza options are unique and similar to what you'd find in Italy. Now, their basic pizzas (Margherita, Sausage, Salami) are very good, but if you're gonna come to a place that specializes in true Italian (Naples) style pizza, then you should get something authentic from that region. And, those Authentic Pizzas, would be the: Affumicata: Scamorza cheese, Speck & Spinach. Any time you see Scamorza cheese on a menu, you should order it as it's hard to find in the US and is so tasty. It's like a mix between provolone & mozzarella, but slightly drier in texture. "Affumicata" means Smoked, so the cheese has a nice smoky flavor. Highly recommend you order this pizza. You can get a margherita or sausage or salami pizza at a lot of places. But, I assure you, it's next to impossible to find a Scamorza Affumicata pizza...even here in NYC. Napoletana: Mozzarella, Olives & Anchovies. Another original Italian. Now, I know most people dislike anchovies on pizza, but the reason it's not popular in the US, is because most pizza places have been: 1) using the wrong type (too salty) type of anchovy and 2) over-cooking the pizza and thus the anchovies. A proper pizza chef will constantly be moving the pizza around in the oven to get the right amount of crispiness on the crust, while at the same time, keeping the anchovies soft & tender. The pizza chefs at Piacere do that well. Now, if you don't like seafood, then that's another story, you won't like this pizza, lol. But if you do, then this pizza is great. Robiola: Robiola cheese & White Truffle Oil. Robiola is from the Stracchino cheese family from the Langhe region of Piedmont (where the best wines in Italy come from - Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo). The cheese is made from equal parts cow, sheep & goat's milk, and has a creamy, tangy & mild sour taste to it. It's excellent on it's own btw with honey. The pizza is made in a 'stuffed' style, meaning, there's a crust on top & bottom, with the ingredients inside. It's very unique and decadent, and if you like bread, creamy cheese & truffle oil, then you'll love this one. Those would be my Top 3 Pizza picks. Now, if you want something basic, then the Margherita or Calabrese (sausage) are great options, but if I were you, I'd order a basic and one of the 3 above, so you can try something different. Also, I LOVE THE AMBIANCE! The restaurant has a dark, rustic & cozy feel to it and a few large picnic tables which makes it great for large groups, or you can sit 'European-style' next to your significant other to make for a more romantic feel. And they play fun music as well. The wine list is actually really good for a small restaurant, and have cool options besides Chianti (which every lame Italian restaurant in the US serves). They have options like Negroamaro ('black & bitter" grape), Primitivo (zinfandel, but better in Italy) and Montepulciano (lighter grape). And as far as price, the pizzas are fairly reasonable - $14-$18/pizza, but where your cost will be driven up, is the wine, as it's $9-$14/glass. So, if price is an issue, then pass on the wine. Love the location as well, because normally I CAN'T STAND having to come to Little Italy as the vast majority of the restaurants are terrible and cater to unbeknownst tourists. Piacere gives me a great restaurant option when I have out-of-town guests who wanna see Little Italy, but at the same time, I want something good to eat as my fee for dealing with this tourist trap destination. We didn't get to try any of the pasta dishes, so can't vouch for anything there, but we did share a dessert, the cioccolato fondente cake with vanilla gelato and it was rich & decadent. Overall, Piacere is a great restaurant for Neapolitan Pizza, great wines by the glass, with an awesome ambiance at a decent price. Definitely come here. read more

I honestly can't believe I'm about to write another 5 star review for this NYC trip - but I guess I know how to choose restaurants (cough we decided to go based on yelp reviews alone). It was feeling like time for pizza when we stumbled upon this unassuming storefront. The yelp reviews were talking a big game so we decided to give it a try. Immediately we were welcomed by the warm staff / owners who remained attentive over the whole night, quickly serving and clearing our table and topping up drinks. We started with bruschetta which was some of the best I've ever had - the tomatoes were so fresh and it had just the right amount of oil. We each had a pizza as well, which were cooked almost right in front of us in the wood burning oven. Each pizza was perfection - crispy thin crust and just the right amount of toppings. The place was close to empty but I can't imagine it will stay that way for long, definitely a must try! 3.5 stars I think if we just stuck to ordering pizzas, Piacere would have been an easy 4 stars. Our group of 4 decided to try some of the other stuff on the menu as well and were underwhelmed. In the end I couldn't ignore the 3 other dishes in my review. The linguine w/ manilla clams was devoid of flavor. Even though the linguine was perfectly al dente it could not make up for the lack of taste. The pan seared scallops with porcini mushrooms were generally well received at our table but I found the vinegar overwhelming. The octopus and potatoes with olive oil and parsley got mixed reviews at our table. I thought the light flavor was okay, but others seemed to think there wasn't enough flavor on this dish either. Both the octopus and the scallops were perfectly cooked but, due to the flavors, I wouldn't give more than 3/5 to each of those 3 dishes. The two pizzas we ordered were the Calabrese and Affumicata. Calabrese is usually a safe choice for me since I feel you can't go too wrong with spicy sausage on a pizza. Theirs was a pretty solid 4/5. The only problem was that the crust was slightly overbaked. The Affumicata pizza was the best thing we had there. The smokiness of the mozarella really came though in each bite, complimenting the spinach and the speck. Best of all, this pizza was perfectly baked and the crust drew some heavy praise from our table. 5/5 I would suggest loading up on the pizzas when dining here because when they get it right, it's actually very good. They are 11 inches so at an average of $16/$17, they aren't the cheapest but wont leave you feeling considerably poorer either. Service was friendly and I liked the laid back set up so overall we had a pretty good time here. I would come back to try more of their pizzas. read more

This place is a total hidden gem a short walk from all the Little Italy tourist trap looking places. The pizza here is amazing and authentic, two can easily split one for lunch. We went with the tomato, onion, roast pepper, and spicy sausage option. Everything was spot on without being greasy or soggy at all. We added a tomato and avocado salad and they bring fresh bread and olive oil. They have some interesting Italian beers too, I enjoyed the darker one. Service was VERY friendly and laid back, they weren't too crowded on a Sunday and didn't rush us at all. Be warned they're cash or AMEX only but have an ATM in the restrooms. Holy crapola granola sweet mother of Mary. Words cannot explain how incredible this place is. I literally asked the waiter if there were any jobs going so I could be paid in Tiramusa. We got the papadelle pasta and a simple basil and mozzarella pizza with spicy olive oil. Made with love by a singular Italian chef who not only makes ridiculously good food but also provides you with extremely informative advice on how to open the toilet door. We came to NYC for vacation during Christmas time, and we were told to make sure try Italian foods in little Italy. We read the reviews and saw that many places are tourist traps. So we decided to give this restaurant a try. I gave a 3 stars because the services was not that great. We had to share the table with others. And the waiter was not too attentive. We had linguine with clams and margarita pizza. We thought it was over priced. And they do not take Visa cards. The waiter said American Express or cash only!!! What kind the restaurant does not take visa nor MasterCard? We thought we were discriminated since we were Asians. Apparently hey were doing the same to another Italian family! We sat next to a table of Italians, and our server was Italian as well, so we were immediately confident that this place was authentic. And it turned out we made a great choice for pizza. My dinner companion said "this is the best pizza I've ever had," and I would have to agree. Piacere's pizza selection was so mouthwatering, we had trouble deciding on just one. We split a simple "Bufalina," which was a great, simple choice, perfectly showcasing the amazing flavors. Everything from the sauce, to the crust, to the proportions of the toppings was spot on! The giant brick oven in the back, the chic decor, the service, and the location were all an added bonus. The pizza was perfection, and I would say this place is aptly named. read more
