It feels like a roadhouse where you can get some relief from a hot day while coming in and having a few beers with friends. Good music on the playlist. Negatives: The food is, at best, average ... despite shockingly high prices, even in the hyper inflationary 2020's. You'll notice in the parking lot ... Lots of jacked up pick-up trucks, classic muscle cars, etc. The crowd here is as you'd expect for the border of NH and blue collar MA. The best way to describe the average clientele would be hard drinking, loud laughing 'Live Free or Die Massholes'. Upon entering, this place felt like a classic roadhouse ... dark and cave-like in places but with a large row of windows letting the sun flood into that particular area. It felt a little like a Texas desert Roadhouse in a shabby chic kind of way. The bar area is where I sat and right away, I was hot with the foul and pungent odor of years worth of spilled beer. You know that sour 'vinegar' smell that one would expect from a fraternity house carpet? It's here ... and it's bad. As John Taffer or Gordon Ramsay would scream ... This place needs a good cleaning! The beers here are $7 - $12 each, depending on what you get. They have some Michelob Light-esque draft specials. You are given the choice of 16 or 22 oz. beers and the glasses are chilled. Props for that. The bartender was a little frosty. He seemed more cordial to regulars ... but he was kind of short and matter of fact with me, at one point losing patience as I debated the menu and walked away mid-order without saying anything, only to return a few minutes later. The television situation was odd. The World Cup was on ... Every bar in the US was showing the games. Every television above the bar was broadcasting Keno numbers. Only one television, which was mounted on a side wall broadcasted the soccer game and to see it, everyone had to turn their head and look at a spot 6 inches above the bar top, so you were essentially staring right into the eyes of the people sitting next to you. Creepy. The food here was unfortunate. I think of places like Franklin BBQ in Texas and using 'Texas BBQ' to describe this place, after trying the food, is akin to the most egregious online dating exaggeration ever made. Imagine seeing a photo of a modelesque, jacked person with a full head of hair online ... and the person who showed up was a paunchy, middle-aged balding dude using pictures from 20 years ago. That's how expecting Texas BBQ ends up vs. what you actually get. There's nothing wrong with the food. It's edible ... which is more than some BBQ places can claim. However* it's all dry AF, probably smoked overnight ... taken out in the early morning ... and your brisket or pulled pork has been sitting for 6 - 8 hours under a heat lamp. The sides are made quickly ... the $7 Mac and cheese was basically spiral pasta with a white cheese sauce poured over it. Edible but I'd rather get freshly made Kraft Mac and Cheese. The $7 loaded tots ... a small cup of tater tots with a similar white cheese sauce drizzled over them and a couple of bacon bits on top. The $20 pulled pork was dry ... some big pieces, some chopped pieces. Based on other reviews I decided to avoid the more expensive brisket, which was probably a good move, given the dry pulled pork. I tasted (or smelled in the parking lot) no smokiness. As someone who lived in the South and often ate real BBQ ... You know it when you get the authentic stuff because you burp up smokey taste for the better part of the night after eating true roadside BBQ. This was more like Trader Joe's reheated BBQ. Food and restaurant costs are rising so fast these days, I have absolutely no idea what is normal and what is high. Based on other interactions with menus ... I believe these to be on the high side. $20 for a burger ... $20 - $30 for a single BBQ meat ... $15 - $25 for a BBQ sandwich ... $6 - $7 for a side. I had the pulled pork single meat, which came with two sides and a beer. My total, before tip, was $35. The bartender got a 20% tip, because that's my minimum. But he deserved maybe 10%. Beyond the somewhat dickish attitude ....he didn't ask or bring me any BBQ sauce (a necessity for the dry, bland meat) or Ketchup.. I had to walk over to a table and get some. He never checked in to see how my food was. No small talk ... no 'Can I get you anything else?'. Tipping culture in the US sucks because if you leave any less than 20% for bad service, you get chased into the parking lot. So that's my review in a nutshell. Would I return? Probably not ... unless I was meeting friends for beers. The food value just wasn't there for me. There seemed to be a lot of regulars, so it can't be all bad (although majority of other 3-star reviews seem accurate) The bottom line is that this is a better bar than a restaurant. It's cool and feels like a good recreation of a fun roadhouse.

In my newest picture I had started in on the fish but had not eaten a fry yet lol. I almost forgot to take a picture because it was delicious. I didn't quite finish all my fries but I ate all of the fish and all of the coleslaw. We ordered a side of onion rings which we also did a good job of finishing. This is a really cute diner with an old time atmosphere. We enjoyed it a lot and will definitely come again.

We came here to try out their Monday Blues, and happened on their Monday Buck-a-Shuck oysters! We found a long room with over 70 seats set up at tables for four that looked combine-able, about 20 seats at the bar and at 2-seat hightops, both rooms with a wall of windows. The band set up in the bar window, but sit where you like, we found that we could hear the band everywhere! There's also a small enclosed outdoor patio with about 30 more seats at umbrellaed tables. The Jim Atkinson band is a foursome of Boston-area musicians that has been cranking out great blues, rock, & roots since 2017. We loved them, especially enjoying the creative keyboard and a real live sax! Their music selection was amazing, more their favorite solid blues than old-standbys, so we didn't recognize every song. But that's real music :-) The $1 New England oysters were big and juicy! They started at 4pm before we got there, and they still had plenty for us after 7pm! They say the variety changes with availability. These were not overly salty. This was dinner for us, and we started with their hot-skillet "Mexican Corn Dip" with zingy pico de gallo salsa and fresh crisp corn tortilla chips. We got a "warm energy" bowl of quinoa, fresh tart cranberries, baby spinach, roasted sweet potato, and goat cheese, flavored with some scallions and garlic-butter. Huge, delicious, and very satisfying! The Fish 'n Chips was a full-foot-long full of their own Moon-Hill-beer beer-battered haddock, piping-hot fries, fresh crunchy coleslaw, with tartar sauce. Yep, Huge, delicious, and satisfying! We tried their parmesan-garlic wings, but that wasn't our favorite. They were ok, but not crispy which we expected. Came with crunchy celery and creamy bleu cheese. Of course we leaned on their in-house Moon Hill brewery for several dry IPAs, their luscious Candy Mountain blueberry sour, (which could have been colder), and a very tasty non-alcohol Blueberry (Not)-tini, a bubbly beverage crafted with "Reàl Blueberry Purée", fresh lemon juice and lemonade. Im sorry to say the meatball sub at West Swanzey Butcher shop is much better and less money. Last visit I had an Italian sub or the equivalent and that was also expensive and a stack of cheap cold cuts. And once again not exciting. 3rd and last visit. Too expensive for poor quality food. I only know this because I tried my friend's. I ordered some, but I got mac salad in my order. I think the mac n cheese would do a little better with a creamier cheese sauce. Good chefs hate it, but the fact is that Velveeta makes a creamy basic sauce that can be doctored without limits to greatness for the application. 2. Mac salad: B+. It's pretty basic mac salad, no surprises. The pasta was a little al dente, though. I suspect that the dressing was perfect when they made it, but over a few hours the al dente noodles soaked up whatever moisture they could, leaving a dried out dressing. The remedy for this is to re-mix the batch with a little water, or buttermilk for extra points. 3. Potato salad: B+. This is a good, basic potato salad. No surprises. 4. Creamy slaw: A+. GREAT! SLAW! This is almost like my slaw, and I'm picky about my slaw. 5. Regular slaw: A. Bright and fresh flavored slaw. This slaw screams "put me on a killer California Reuben!". 6. BBQ beans: D. Insanely good sauce. Beans heavily undercooked. Insanely good sauce. Fix these, and I will eat them by the half-gallon. 7. Brisket: A. Solid brisket, great smoke, perfect cook. 8. Spare ribs: A. Good and smokey, falling off the bone (but the cartilage hangs on, which makes them perfect in my book). 9. Pork roast: A. I'm not sure what cut was used here, but it's a great cut for this purpose. Moist and flavorful and very smokey. 10. Pulled chicken: A++. Next to what the beans *could be* and what the creamy slaw is, this chicken is an absolute all-star. Whew! Wicked smokey, super moist, pure heaven. I could eat piles of this chicken! 11. "Kicker" sauce: sweet and delicious BBQ sauce. I have a feeling, after the beans and this sauce, that sauces are this place's strong suit. Truly great stuff. Summary: this place has some easily fixable problems. Easily fixable. Mere adjustments, and I can't wait to try them out again and bump this up to 5 stars.

Seems like these guys are usually parked in the parking lot of Froggs Brewery in Marlborough NH. Frogg's has a few snack food items themselves but these guys are there on weekends, or at least most weeks at the moment. Check their facebook page for updates. It was nice to chill at Froggs too while we ate, grabbed a watermelon beer to wash it all down, pretty darn good. Their regular and spicy BBQ sauces were very good to taste. Obviously some minced garlic and some chili flakes for seasoning in each of them. More thick than I like though, probably typical sauce texture almost anyone would expect but I've come to appreciate the more runny vinegar authentic style sauces. Sweet Maple BBQ Sauce was excellent! Not as much minced stuff in it as the others and I don't know if I'd guess it was Maple flavored if I didn't know. More of like a pineapple sweetness to it, but it's actually really good. Pulled pork was almost perfect! Definitely cooked in a sauce at least for a little while but it was still distinctly the great natural taste of pork. Wasn't till I got to the bottom and tasted a giant slab of fat disguised as regular pulled pork (hate it when that happens) but the rest of it was some of the best pulled pork I've ever had. Ribs are smoked like crazy, almost all the meat was red and delicious. Meat doesn't fall off all over the place, texture was pretty good if anything it was a tiny bit on the tougher side but still easy enough to chew. I could taste the seasoning rub on it well enough but it still wasn't that powerful. Sausage was good, definitely the type that fits better as a sausage and peppers and onions sandwich. Lot of that smokey redness to it, very enjoyable. Brisket looked drier than it actually was but still not as juicy as I particularly like them to be. Tougher cut of Brisket, not as flavorful as I'd hoped, the fatty part had a little bit of seasoning flavor to but not much. Brisket was still okay, too many different types of Brisket out there to judge accurately. Chicken was smoked very well and tasted great too, especially with some of that Maple sauce! Hate to say it was a teeny bit on the dry side though but still very yummy. Can't say much about the seasoning on the skin though, not much flavor their at all. I appreciate that the Cole slaw is vinegar based. I prefer that over the mayo based stuff (unless it's super tasty). Didn't pack a ton of flavor though, but it got the job done. Beans were Black beans and Kidney beans in a sorta sweet and savory type of sauce. I really liked the flavor and the beans were cooked well enough but the sauce was very drippy. Not that that's a terrible thing but I'm just use to baked beans that hold onto a lot of that gravy. The beans I had here just kinda felt like they were 2 beans boiled down with some mildly sweet brown sugar juice. But as I said, flavor alone the beans were actually very tasty. Mac and Cheese is Ziti pasta with a blend of cheeses that haven't had the right amount of time to become gooey yet. Ziti really could have been boiled for about 5 minutes longer because it was still tough. Cheese din't have much taste to it and it felt more like a gritty cheesy paste wrapped around the pasta. Not sure what the deal is with this Ziti substitute, this is like the eight place I've been to that does it and it's really getting old but if you have a good cheese recipe then I guess it don't matter what the pasta is, but for some reason none of these ziti places have had it that good. Cornbread is a small cube of yellow cake. Wasn't cornbread at all. Not complaining about the yellow cake, it's yummy enough, but it A'int no damn corn bread.
