My questions were always answered promptly and courteously; everything was always explained to me in advance and clarified if needed. This company responded very quickly to my patio installation request about the 3rd week in April (22 April). The guy came out and looked at the property as scheduled. During our interaction we discussed patio size of which I was not sure of. He recommended that I email my house plat to him and he stated that he would send me some ideas based on the plat. My back yard is not that big and I wanted a patio that is appropriate for the amount of square footage that I have. I didn't want it too big or too small but proportionally size. I sent him the plat the same day. Several weeks went by and I didn't hear anything which is totally understandable during the pandemic, I got it. But soon I got impatient and sent (28 May) another email asking for a follow up but still silence. Unresponsive. Please have the decency to let a potential customer know whether or not your company is willing to take on work or not. 2 thumbs down. read more

Wow - were these guys great. We LOVE our patio. We have a small patio that was in horrible disrepair. The concrete slabs were all busted up, the fence was falling down, and it was no place we ever wanted to be. We called one contractor who gave us an outrageous quote that wouldn't even have replaced the fence. We somehow found Phoenix. The quote they gave us was far less than the first one and was an entirely new patio - they ripped out the old concrete, put in flagstone, replaced the fence and gave us a new stairway with a design that saved us considerable space. I shared the quote and description with a contractor friend of mine who works in a part of the country far less expensive than here and he said he would have written the quote $5k higher. AND, they did it all on time, left everything completely clean and ready to enjoy the moment they drove away. Some of our neighbors were so impressed they've asked for Phoenix's number. We have an older home in Kings Park (Springfield, VA) and we were in desperate need of a kitchen update. When we first started this project, we used a low bid contractor. Needless to say, a quarter of the way through the project we realized we had made a HUGE mistake and the project was going from bad to worse. We called several contractor's and Phoenix Home Services came in and absolutely conquered this project. They are by far the best in the business! From our initial consult through project close, they were on time, clean, professional, had a dedicated crew and the co-owner (Steve Bowes) was available day and night for those nuisance calls and became our ultimate support system. From preparing the design and writing the contract, Clint Asmar from Phoenix listened to us and developed the plan we were looking for, at a price within our budget. In addition to putting a new roof and gutters on our home, Phoenix Home Services installed two backyard dry wells, a French drain, and a sump pump. They also rebuilt a basement wall with new insulation, electrical, and drywall TWICE (long, torturous, and expensive tale involving flipping sellers and sewer rats nesting and dying behind the wall). Given the urgent water intrusion and mold remediation situation in which we found ourselves, it was a huge relief to find a responsive, knowledgeable contractor who could move quickly and put together a reliable, hardworking crew. The subs whom I met were professional and upstanding; they did good work and could be trusted with a house key. Phoenix completed all work on schedule and within tight time frames. Phoenix is also mindful of details. For example, they made sure roofing nails in the front and back yards were swept up with magnets and that all construction debris was cleaned up and removed. Most recently, when water was noticed seeping into our basement (not a warranty issue), we contacted owner Steve on a Friday. He came out the following Monday morning (after a snowstorm) to assess the situation and called his master plumber Rick who came the same day. That level of responsiveness and customer service ensures repeat business from loyal customers. Came recommended but were seriously disappointed. Clint came to our home walked along our property and thoroughly evaluated our deck and porch deficiencies and possibility of having pavers put in and had long discussion with my husband. All good and told us we'd get an estimate in a few days. 5 days later we checked in and he said he will not give us an estimate because he was too afraid to build anything under our deck and felt it wasn't up to code and that's it. No other word since. My husband specifically talked to him about how correcting any deficiencies in our deck and screened in porch were priority. So why can he not give us an estimate now when he came onto our personal property to assess that very thing? And even said he'd provide an estimate? Unprofessional to say the least and left us with concerns about inadequate construction without any follow through at all. Not only left us hanging for an estimate but walked into our home and disappeared without a reason. First time we've ever encountered this. Maybe other ppl will have better luck but be cautious. read more

We needed some masonry work and cleaning out a backyard drain. They were timely, professional and priced the project fairly.

This review is long overdue. About a year ago we contacted several contractors to get estimates and ideas for constructing a screened in deck and patio with fire pit. We were working with a blank slate (no prior decking etc). Clint came to the house and we discussed what we were looking for. He sent us a wonderful rendering to go along with the proposal so we could get a visual and understand the space we'd have. The concept was spot-on; he was able to connect the two projects. He also made sure that the design was to code, given that we have septic tanks. The pricing was in the same ballpark as other quotes, but we chose Phoenix because they were able to deliver both projects together. The work was done professionally every day by Ethan and Hamon, and Clint or Brian would swing by and check on things and answer questions. Everyone was very kind and easy to chat with. I really appreciated the attention to detail and commitment to get the projects completed. They didn't just start and then leave for another smaller project. At the end, we couldn't be happier. During this year, we noticed a few things here and there (to be expected) and there was never an issue having things addressed. We highly recommend Phoenix - you get an excellent product. read more

Wasted our time! I wish I could write a review on the quality of the work this company performed, but unfortunately we couldn't get beyond step 1 with them. We have a major project in our home which includes the demo and reconstruction of retaining walls, brick stairs, and cement base below our porch. We went through 3 scheduled appointments with this company before they finally showed up. When they did, their rep spent about an hour going over the project with us, and told us that we should have an estimate in "a few days"...this was on a Monday. The following Monday we still had not received an estimate, so we contacted them again; they told us we should have the estimate "very soon". It has now been over a month since the rep went over the work with us, and we still have no estimate or work proposal. To Phoenix: if you can't or don't want to do the work, just say so...it's our money; we can find someone else to do the work! Please learn to value your potential customers' time as you would your own. This was irresponsible on your part! read more

Wonderful company! Every member of their ALWAYS had the positive and cheerful attitude while working on our many projects. The work they did for us was done without one delay. There was always a supervisor or one of the owners overseeing the project every day and many times several times a day. Sorry have to give this rating. I saw their website and the A+ BBB rating and called them for a some patio work re grouting etc, but they do not do anything less than $3500 work. After getting estimates from three businesses we decided to hold off doing the work. ( Cement walkway, new front door stoop/steps and replace two windows) Fast forward to about a year later.. March 2012. We call back Phoenix Home services and sign a contract on March 17th after being told they were about a month out. This date came & went with no word from the company. Delays, excuses, no returned phone calls, no response to e-mails. Basically it took just short of 4 months to start and finish a job that they told me would take a week. I contend they broke the contract twice with regards to dates and failure to communicate in writing or otherwise. The workmanship was good for some and absolutely terrible for others. Worker attitude to me, being a female (who was watching what they were doing) was demeaning and sometimes hostile. Forget that they needed to be watched such as when they insisted the measurements were right by twisting the tape twice to make it fit. Promises were made and broken. Workmanship was careless, shoddy and sloppy. Would I call them again. No Way! Would I recommend them.. No way. Have already told a neighbor to look elsewhere for the similar work they want done. read more

We had a front walkway that was bland and in need of an upgrade. We called Phoenix and set up an appointment with them the next Saturday. They suggested we change the design of it to add some curves and widen it a bit, and sent us a nice 3D design of the project with the estimate. Their price wasn't the lowest but they gave us a 5 year warranty (some of the other contractors we spoke with didn't even mention a warranty). We used travertine and covered our porch with it also. It looks great! Our nextdoor neighbors took one look at the finished product and asked us for Phoenix's phone number, and their walkway was finished the next week! We're glad we decided to go with Phoenix for the job and Would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

My husband got a contract with them to replace our fence and patio on our townhouse built in the 1970s. The prior owners were do it yourself-ers (and not the good kind) so our hand laid brick patio with rotting wood 2x4s was seriously becoming a hazard for our little guy. Not to mention our fence, installed with the house, was about to fall down. It needed some work! Hubs spoke to the sales person and described what he wanted and a contract and price was written up. We got a phone call a few days later regarding scheduling, they were running behind due to several bouts of bad weather (can't help that one) and our project would be pushed out for 2-3 weeks. That was no problem as we weren't in a big rush. We had an appointment scheduled to meet with the construction project manager Tues. morning. He arrived super early (730am) with his crew. They were ready to start with no delays! We were surprised by this but pleased that everything was moving along so quickly. The construction crew is seriously some of the most hard working people I have seen - I hope they are being paid very well for the work that they do. Most of the crew (about 5 ppl) came between 7 and 730 with some of them staying until 730 8 pm that night. I seriously wanted to invite them for dinner they were so hard working! Fast forward three days later and they were completing the finishing touches. My patio, fence and front stoop is absolutely gorgeous, professionally done and the construction crew was very friendly (they spoke limited English but enough for us to understand each other). Jose, project manager, was on site almost as much as the crew was and readily able to answer questions, coordinate with the salesperson regarding our original invoice and work order, and solve any problems. The work we had done was quite pricey but not excessive. You get what you pay for and I would rather pay more for a great product than less for a substandard work. Not to mention, we have a 5 year warranty if anything happens - broken stones, cracked mortar, etc. - and the business has been around for a long time with happy customers. That can be hard to do if you don't have a good work product. O yea - the crew found our exterior plumbing clean out valve that was previously covered up by the above mentioned owners : / They installed a removable stone so now that problem is solved as well! read more

When we had a flood in our basement, he was able to stop the water flow get our wall repaired immediately and prevent a mold-induced catastrophe. Bought my first home last year in Gainesville with an unfinished basement and no deck so I started the search for a reliable home construction company shortly after. When I mentioned this to my boss, he said he'd been getting home renovations from Clint and Phoenix Home Services for years and highly recommended their work. I took a look at their website, saw some amazing stone work (something I hadn't even considered doing yet) and noticed their perfect rating with the BBB and decided it was worth reaching out. I set an appointment with Clint for him to come out and give us a free estimate. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do with the basement, or even the deck, but as soon as Clint saw both spaces the ideas started coming. I was quite surprised how knowledgeable he was and how he had very descriptive answers and solutions for all of my thoughts and concerns. My wife and I were very comfortable with the plans and ideas we were all able to come up with and decided to move forward with Clint and set up a construction date for the upcoming weeks. It took about 4 weeks to start construction (as expected), and throughout those 4 weeks we were in constant contact with Clint and his team. Once construction started, it seemed as if those guys lived there until it was finished. Even on rainy days they found a way to come out and get a few things done, which is probably why they were able to finish everything ahead of schedule. This was honestly the most painless process I could have imagined and my wife and I couldn't have been happier with how everything turned out. I would like to recommend Phoenix Home Services and its staff. My wife and I were pleased with the project that they did on the exterior of our home. The project manager, Clint Asmar, was very professional and precise in his work. He did an excellent job of communicating with us each day and insuring that the project progressed on schedule. All of the Phoenix staff were courteous and hard working. The project was to create a structure to cover an exterior staircase that descended from the ground level to an underground entry door to the basement. Because that area was totally exposed from above, the only way to prevent the basement from flooding during a heavy rain was a drain at the bottom that fed into a sump pump inside that pumped the water outside. Periodically, the sump pump would not operate due to electricity going out during a lengthy storm or to some blockage in the system. We were told that installing a back up battery would necessitate creating a much deeper hole under the basement floor. We decided to have the staircase covered with a small roof and a gutter system installed that would direct water away from the foundation and staircase. There were several challenges, One was to create a system that would effectively deal with our heavy rains and winds. Another was to build something that would not be unsightly but would harmonize with the architecture of the sixty year old house. I believe that Phoenix did an excellent job on both matters. The shingles of the roof match the shingles of our existing roof and the color of the pillars match the color of the siding and the columns in front of the house. The new structure looks like a natural extension of the house. I think you would enjoy working with the staff of Phoenix and hope that you would be pleased with their work. read more

We recently did 2 patios in the back yard. We worked with Clint on the design and pricing. Though the cost was higher than expected, the quality of work and materials used exceeded our expectations. The price on the contract did NOT increase, as I've seen in the past using other contractors. Clint's attention to detail especially on the finishing touches is the reason why I'm writing this review. If you aren't happy, then Phoenix is not happy. They WILL do whatever it takes to ensure we were happy. We had a deadline of a month and a half, and they were able to meet the strict deadline. ***** Important ***** We had some issues with the patios being a little slick (we have kids), and some of the grout wasn't up to par. Phoenix has a 5 year warranty. It was easy to submit a ticket online, and we received a call the next day. I've had to use this service twice, and they were able to get someone out to the property that week. They came out and re-finished the stone patios, as well as the walkways. They also added something to the top of the patios to ensure there is a little grip for the kids when they are playing on them. I'm willing to pay a little more for a warranty service that actually does what it's supposed to do. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE! We signed the agreement on December 23rd... They started work in mid January for an egress window that would take 4-5 days to complete. It's now April 1st, and the project still isn't completed. They tried to additionally charge us $1500 because they repaired our deck, however... they never consulted with us on the project... Just took it upon themselves to do it, and then charge us for it. After threatening to take it to court, they ended up covering that cost. They told me they were finished with the project about 3 weeks ago, however after inspection the work was extremely sloppy and nothing was cleaned up... There's still trash in our basement and old supplies in our backyard. They half-assed everything. Left holes in our foundation. Left the electrical wires exposed to the elements. and the concrete itself is so uneven, it just looks awful. For $11,000 for ONE EGRESS WINDOW, I expected MUCH BETTER QUALITY!!!! They told us that they would be back to fix everything the following week. NEVER SHOWED. Then rescheduled for yesterday, due to rain they didn't show. Rescheduled for today... still haven't showed. No call, NOTHING. I am VERY fed up with the company and their lack of professionalism. I have never experienced such customer service in my life. read more

I've hesitated to write this review, but every day I'm reminded of the awful job they did installing my hardwood floors. The floors creak loudly and nail heads show everywhere. Rather than employ their own guys, they apparently sub out to the low bidder - if you're lucky you'll get a good job, if not, you're on your own, because Clint's a fast-talker, and they refuse to stand behind their work. My wife and I decided to give the front of our house face lift and decide to start from scratch on our porch and walkway for our house. I did the normal checks with the better business bureau and looked at on line reviews. We contacted Phoenix and a few other local companies. Overall we felt most comfortable with James and Phoenix Home Services. James walked us through the process and talked about the five year warranty they offer on all the work that they perform. He really made us feel comfortable with the choice we were making. As far as he crew that they sent to work on our house...well just can't say enough good things about Norbert and his staff that completed the job. Our job was a bit compicated and required them to break up the concrete by hand. The guys worked hard each day and successfully removed the existing walkway and stoop without hitting any of the irrigation lines or electrical lines running to the lights out front. The crew worked with us and even allowed for a few last minute design changes. The slate and stone work was first class. We preferred tight grout lines on the stone work which they accommodated. The finished product was first class and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or pass them off as a great reference. We've had multiple neighbors compliment us on the stoup and walkay and we are thrilled with the job from start to finish. read more

Our experience with Phoenix, from planning to project completion was excellent. My wife is particularly picky about responsiveness and design flexibility and I'm picky about the crew's professionalism and quality of materials. Clint Asmar and the Phoenix team checked all the boxes! The project was fairly large and complex. We had no major issues and very few challenges. We received less expensive estimates, but Phoenix was in line with the ones we received on the project. We were certainly pleased with the workmanship. The crews were top notch and well supervised. We were pleasantly surprised when Phoenix went the extra mile on more than one occasion without additional cost. For example, I had an in-ground irrigation system in the backyard where the project was planned. Phoenix dug up and reconnected the pipes around the yard and project without a problem or extra cost. I was particularly pleased that they kept project trash/debris to a minimum, cleaned up after themselves, re-seeded grass and placed straw on the back lawn so the yard could bounce back as quickly as possible. My wife had several particular design requests including a custom door installation. Phoenix installed with door with expertise and went the extra mile to respond to my wife's design requests. Overall, we were very pleased with Phoenix and would definitely hire them for future projects. read more

Customer service is great but quality of the work is sub-par. The company was supposed to install a french door for me. Another individuals door was delivered to my home. The installation didn't even know which door they were placing. They thought it was my front door when it supposed to be my back door. The crew had to return to the warehouse to pick up my door. Then I discovered that the order was screwed up. I had requested a screen, satin nickle hardware and an off white exterior color. The door did not have a screen. The hardware was brass and the exterior was gray. Then, to top it off, the installation was shoddy. The owners have promised that they will correct all of the issues. If they follow through on their promise, I may provide a higher rating. However, the entire experience with Phoenix Home Services has been extremely frustrating. read more

My husband and I hired Pheonix Home Serivces to move an exterior door in our brick and block house and to install a new window in the place of the original door. We met with their salesperson, Clint Asmar, who sold us on this wonderful idea of in house engineers, masons and project managers. After signing, the project went as follows: 1. The project was suppose to be completed within 4 weeks. 1 week in we were contacted by the engineer who would draw up our structural drawings for permiting. He was wonderful, he also DID NOT work for Pheonix but was a subcontractor. 2. We heard NOTHING from Pheonix after the engineer came and left until they sent us an email two weeks later saying they had scheduled our start day for the last day of the contract period. They mentioned in the meeting that we would be contacted for a preconstruction meeting. At this point we would not have even known if the permit was obtained except for the fact that my husband works for the city and has friends in the permit office. 3. Work was suppose to start on a Monday. As of the Thursday before we had not heard anything from Pheonix to set up a preconstruction meeting and it occured to us that they had not met with us to pick out a door and window (these usually take two weeks to order). We called Pheonix to ask what they planned on installing and were told they FORGOT to order our door and we had the option of picking one up from Home Depot or delaying the project two weeks. After confirming that they had ordered a window (which I seriously believe they LIED about), we decided to pick up a door from Home Depot. 4. Sunday before work is suppose to start, still no word on preconstruction meeting OR little things like what time they were planning to start. I took all day off of work to be at home for the construction in case they would be there all day. 5. Monday come around, beautiful sunny day in the mid 40's. They hadn't showed up by around 10 so my husband called to see when they were coming. He was told by "James" that the project was delayed due to weather and they werent coming. So now I wasted a vacation day to stay home and they didn't even have the decency to tell me they had to cancel. 6. New start day was scheduled for Wednesday. Wednesday was colder than Monday with cloud cover, but apparently there were no problems with working in that weather! Two man crew shows up and starts work. My husband, who has construction experience, was so dissapointed in the quality of the work these guys were doing that he literally stood outside all day to watch them. They made LOTS of shortcuts. For example, they didn't bother measuring out the rough opening for the door before they started putting in cinderblock and instead just filled in the extra space with 2x4s. They didn't follow the engineers drawings for the placement of the lentel and they did not allow for the required 4" of support on one side of the lentel. We asked to have the engineer recertify that the current configuration was acceptable. Numerous calls to "James" about the shortcuts were met with frustration, he was clearly NOT interested in customer service and only in getting the job done as quickly as cheaply as possible. 7. They FAILED THE INSPECTION. When the inspector came out he noticed that there were no bolts holding the door frame into the walls, ceiling or floor. So esscentially if you took a running start at the door you might just push the entire thing, frame and all, out of place and be left with a big hole in the wall. The workers did come back that night to fix these issues and the inspector passed us the next day. 8. Third day of the project, we're expecting everything to be completed today but were told they couldn't start until 4pm because they were waiting for the window to be completed. (This is why I'm fairly certian they forgot to order the window. If they had it already, we wouldnt be waiting for it.) They never show up. 10. The following Tuesday, they show up to install the window. Pheonix had ordered a replacement window instead of a new construction window. Works ok, but did require additional flashing. The worker who shows up attempts to put in the window without leveling it and without attaching any flashing (end result would be a leaky lopsided window). My husband, who is still out there watching all day, has to stop the guy, make him shim the window and send him to Home Depot for flashing. 11. Wednesday they show up to finish the parging on the outside. The parging they had put on the lentel was already chipping off. My husband had discussed this with the project manager and determined that this was to be removed and redone after the lentel was scored, but apparently they didnt telll the workers this. I too live in Fairfax area and contacted them to build a small deck. They cancelled on me three times and when they finally showed up did a horrible job. I contacted Phoenix Home Services for an estimate on a screened in porch. My house sits on a lot of land and I wanted something the kids and I could enjoy for the upcoming summer months. A place I wouldn't have to worry about leaving them out to play on with the fear of them running off! I was contacted within minutes of submitting my request for a free estimate to schedule a date and time for their designer Clint to come out. Clint came to my house at the scheduled day and time, he designed my project using my rough (very rough) sketch and ideas. He turned what was only a thought into a reality with a detailed auto cad design and proposal. The cost never changed from the agreed upon price, he helped me through all my choices and was there to answer ALL of my questions. When it came time to start the project I met for a pre-construction meeting and the next day the crew was there working. They built my screened in porch in the allotted time frame and cleaned up everyday so my small children didn't get into anything. I love my screened in porch its exactly what I wanted and have already bought furniture to go into it!I have refereed Phoenix to all my friends looking to get work done! read more

Work Performed: Addressed water seeping into basement -- buried gutter downspouts to move water away from house, trenched and waterproofed one side of house, installed french drains in several areas, installed exterior sump pump in outside stairwell, installed drainage grate across driveway, removed several concrete slabs, graded exterior and seeded Review: We had an amazing experience with Phoenix from start to finish. Steve came out and assessed our basement water issues and provided sound recommendations on how we could address the situation. We had several other companies out and by far Steve provided the most comprehensive, well thought-out plan along with the most reasonable cost estimate. The contract that he wrote was also very detailed and clear. Once the work started Jose, the foreman, and his team were machines. I've never seen a crew work so hard. They showed up at 8:00 every morning went right to work and busted it out all day with only a short break for lunch. Not only did they work hard, it was very evident that they knew what they were doing. Jose took time to answer all my questions as the project progressed. Steve also came by on several occasions throughout the roughly 10 day project to ensure all was going to plan. Rob the electrician/carpenter who installed the sump pump was also great -- in fact we are working with him to complete a few other projects around the house. Jose and team also showed great care for the rest of our property ensuring that dirt piles were placed on tarps so they would not damage our existing grass, and cleaning up thoroughly every day, Jose's masonry skills are also top notch as all the concrete work looks great. The crew seeded and planted grass, but Steve even said that they'd be back in the fall to do it again since July/August is always a tough time to establish new grass! Since the work was completed, we've had several strong rains and the basement has been dry as a bone. I highly recommend giving Phoenix and Steve a call when considering this type of work. read more
