They desperately need to hire more people. One guy on a busy Saturday waiting all the tables, cleaning them (not really), and ringing up at the register. There was another guy there smoking outside who could have helped. This is the only pho in Calvert County, and while it's priced slightly higher than pho in Northern Virginia, it's solid, and a dependable option here in this county. That said, the restaurant was so messy on Saturday, it was likely to drive potential customers away. Clean the tables, please! The area in the back on the way to the bathroom is a disaster too, but the front tables were covered with dirty dishes, and the debris from previous patrons. Good luck finding one clean/empty table at 6 on a Saturday. The food is good but if the interior stays like this, I'm very unlikely to to return much, unless I get take-out. read more

So glad they were open New Year day We get a little sticker shock looking at the extensive menu, prices were a few dollars higher than most similar VN places but we want to like the food enough for future visits. The room decor is nice and music track of instrumental songs was pleasant for conversations We tried Bun Bo Hue the middle region spicy beef and pork soup, tempura salt and pepper garlic squid appetizer, and stir fry chaxiu roast pork & vegetables with pan fried egg noodle dish. Surprisingly, this restaurant has served me one of the best rendition of Bun Bo Hue , it has the right level of Unami and spice for my tastebuds to make it a return item better than others in many places I have tried in CA and NVA. The thinly sliced beef brisket and pork meat dumpling and roll were tender and flavorful to add interest to an amazingly complex broth cooked with probably toasted ginger, onion, bones, lemon grass, fish sauce, rock sugar and fermented shrimp paste. The only thing missing was the tender skin on pork feet and correct side herbs and vegetables for this type of soup. If they have these, I'll be there every week and gain weight fast. We liked the other dishes also for their great sense of seasoning and variety of fresh ingredients. Their dipping sauce for the squid is delicious. The stir fry noodles and pork tasted great to get a thumbs up from my son. The kitchen seems to know its business when it comes to taste. We will make it a point to return for other dishes as well to explore the range of their kitchen. I could see that they were a little understaffed so folks were a little impatient when the kitchen gets a little back up with orders. Service over all is good because the one waiter had to cover the dine in, carry out , and bussing the tables as well and has a chilled sense of humor to handle minor fussiness from hungry customers. People often don't tip folks in this type of ethnic restaurants even the normal 15 percent even on holidays. After many positive visits, tonight's experience was comically horrific. My wife and daughter ordered takeout, and when they arrived home, the order was burned , incorrect (we did not order shrimp), improperly prepared (rolls bursting open; too few dumplings, etc.), and inedible. When my wife called - friendly and confused - she was hung up on. When I called, the man who answered the phone seemed like a deer caught in the headlights - unable even to give his name. He hung up and blocked my number - I went straight to voicemail for the rest of the night. Maybe this is the JV team working while the real team is on vacation? We've really enjoyed this place for a long time and it is unfortunate that tonight's experience was so ridiculous. Hopefully they will refund our $50. Ugh. read more

Never going here again, I called them to calmly and respectfully report a potential foodborne illness from their Pho Special. I wanted to at least let them know in the case it could prevent anyone else's suffering. I was instead met with the staff being terrible to me and only caring about their own self preservation, putting me on hold without notice mid conversation and ignoring me in another language, only to finally hang up on me after disregarding me. I got takeout on Monday evening 11/25 @ 4:05 PM and very likely got food poisoning from it since it was my first meal of the day (16 hours since my last meal after intermittent fasting) and the sickness came on violently within a few hours. It was a terrible experience for 6 hours with writhing pain. It saddens me having been a relatively regular customer here, but the indicators point to it being 90% chance that it was food poisoning from a medical diagnosis. The last thing I would want to post about to a resturaunt is this if there's even a chance it wasn't food poisoning, but the circumstances and medical evaluation point in all likelihood to it. Regardless, given their demeanor, it is clear they don't care enough about their customers for it to matter anymore. I no longer trust them. read more

This is the only Pho restaurant in all of Calvert County. I'm not an expert on Pho (maybe 10 times). I've had good Pho and this Pho was alright. When I visited it I had the "Pho Deluxe". This gave you the option to select 3 meats. I chose the brisket, steak, and meatballs. Ok so I have never had beef meatballs in Pho. Usually my safe choice is chicken or shrimp. They offer shrimp rolls but shrimp was not an option for a meat in the pho. . Shrimp in pho is great. When I get my bowl of pho I tried the meatball immediately. Not my favorite. I was expecting an Italian style meatball. What I got was quite different. Very rubbery. I tried to differentiate between what was brisket and what was steak but I couldn't find the difference or it was so slight I couldn't tell. My first few bites of the steak/brisket was a bit gamy tasting but after eating it a bit, the gaminess disappeared and was quite good. It puzzled me. All that being said, the noodles were really good as was the broth. I added some Thai basil leaves and bean sprouts along with some of the sriracha and ate it all (except the meatballs). read more

The pho is pretty good, but I just can't wrap my head around the price vs portion. Very little protein quantity and skimpy on the toppings. Maybe I've had pho at many other places where you get a greater portion for, what seems to be, a more fair price. The grilled pork rolls are really delicious and the price for those did seem more reasonable, so that's a positive. All in all, I felt like I was paying mostly for the convenience of not having to make my own pho, but honestly it's not that much more difficult to make a comparable (if not better) bowl of pho at home and even with the cost of the spices, it's more economical per bowl. These days, eating out is a special expense and I'd rather go somewhere where my dollar is going to go a little further. read more

The quality of the food has slipped--the beef in the Shaken Beef has been gristly the last few times I've ordered it and the rice has been cold. I expect better for the $20 price of the meal. All the ingredients, rice noodles, chicken, onions were good & fresh in my carry out Pho Ga. However, the broth was not a true Pho broth. Normally the broth is rich with complex subtle flavors and is the base for all other ingredients. The broth at Photown looks like dishwater & tastes less. if you're from Calvert and think of Photowns pho is good, you should treat yourself to real pho in Annapolis, Bowie or Crofton. So it was our first time ever having real Vietnamese food. The bbq chicken and pork spring rolls were outstanding and not too much and was served with a habanero mango dipping sauce and fish sauce. The pho combo was OUTSTANDING! It had beef, tripe and tendon. Was a little worried never having tripe or tendon before but all of the flavors melded together. Adding mint, jalapeno and lime to the broth just brought all the flavors together. 5 out of 5! Highly recommend!!! read more

A new addition to the Prince Frederick restaurant scene, and much anticipated. We went on a slow Sunday afternoon, and the first thing we noticed was the wonderful smell of beef broth. We were directed to our table and within two minutes are server came with a menu. He asked us for our drink orders and if we had any questions. We eventually ordered tofu spring rolls and two bowls of pho. The bowls of pho were the best we have had in a while. The broth was very flavorful, with a very pronounced beefiness and five-spice flavor. There was plenty of tender rice noodle in the bowl. The beef was tender and flavorful, and there was plenty of it. The usual side items were provided (sprouts, jalapeños, basil) as well as sriracha and hoisin sauces. The prices I thought a bit high (most soups were $15.50) but I am not sure if that is because prices overall have risen since the pandemic or there are other hidden costs. But overall we were very pleased with the place; the service was attentive, the food was wonderful and we are happy a good/great Vietnamese restaurant is finally in the area. BTW, they also will have rice noodle bowls and banh mi sandwiches in a couple weeks. The waiter told us the menu is still in flux but told us about a few new items that will be tested out. best pho i've had since we moved here from san diego. very clean and nice decor i'll definitely be coming here again. only reason why i am giving 4 instead of 5 is because they had bugs in their hoisin and sriracha sauce bottles. when i found a bug the first time they gladly and very quickly gave me another bowl after apologizing, i get it sometimes bugs get in our food and i appreciate that they gave me another bowl. my husband (who doesn't put any sauce in his soup) didn't get any bugs so i checked the sauce bottles and bugs have been getting into them from the top. i suggest maybe using bottles that have legit lids on them? just disappointing because i can't eat a bowl of pho without plenty of hoisin sauce. it was also $50 for two bowls of pho and 2 eggrolls but i'm not too mad about that one. otherwise, very nice experience. read more
