First stop in Texas, I was excited to go to this place after seeing so many good reviews. When I first walked into the restaurant I was greeted by a lovely older lady who's not only the waitress but also the cashier. She's on point and doesn't miss a beat. I overheard her talking to a customer saying that she and her husband were the only ones working that morning. It made my heart drop. She's working so hard and still has a smile on her face.I ordered the beef pho combo. Before I destroyed the broth with my sauce combo the broth was nice and fresh. Place is named Pho Tommy but their pho was not the highlight of the meal. This place sells both thai food and vietnamese food. Service was great here! To be fair, we were the only table until maybe 30 mins in and the restaurant had just opened. We appreciated the woman who was our server, checking in multiple times. It was a clean place as well! We ordered a pad thai and pho. Between the 2, the pad thai tasted delicious-- it had a balance of sweetness, and tanginess and the noodles were al dente. However, the pho was lacking in that pho flavor (maybe needs more spices?/ stat anise?), as well as beefiness. I don't think I'd come back here for pho. However, I recommend the pad thai! Overall food was okay. I wish they served bon bo hue but it was just a spicy beef noodle soup. I asked for some thai chili flakes to kick it up a notch since it wasn't spicy enough lol. We've driven by Pho Tommy a million times, since it's right down the street from our house. On a particular rainy and cold Monday night, we decided to stop and try it out, and it's a good thing we did! This little hidden gem was terrific! When we arrived there was only one other couple in the restaurant. The place is not very large, but it's very clean and well-lit. From the looks of it, they have a brisk take-out clientele, too, as the counter was full of bags for people to pick up. The friendly server (who I believe is the owner) came and took our order withing a few minutes of being seated. I ordered the eye round pho to share (it's a huge bowl) and also the cream cheese rangoons. The rangoons came out first, right out of the fryer They were steaming hot, but oh so tasty. They're served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. The pho followed. It was a giant bowl with a ton of meat, noodles and greens/bean sprouts. Not overly salty and packed with flavor, it definitely hit the spot on a cold, rainy night. I also ordered a Thai bubble tea for the road..spot on flavor and just enough entertaining tapioca bubbles to keep my mouth happy! I mentioned that there was only one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived, right? Well, in the middle of our meal, it was like a caravan of people arrived at the same time, because every table was full in a matter of 20 minutes. Pho Tommy is where Dresden's used to be. We ordered the fried Vietnamese rolls and rice vermicelli bowls. The rolls were close to perfect, but would have liked the lettuce leaves with them. Taste of Asia still has the best rolls around, and their prices can't be beat! Vermicelli bowls were great! Excellent toppings and the proteins were cooked well. Food came out quickly and our server was attentive. It's a really small place, so there could be a wait at peak dining times. We noted the prices were a dollar or two higher than other places, but this isn't a pricey area of town. Overall, it was good and we'll be back to try the pho next time we're in the area. read more
