    Cream cheese wontons
    Mikki M.

Cute little restaurant with ample seating. We got seated right away and ordered the cream cheese wontons, butter garlic wings, and the grilled pork paper wraps (spring rolls). Cream cheese wontons were good but the wrapper wasn't crispy. The butter garlic wings came out hot and fresh. I liked that the batter was light and crispy. The dipping sauce is like a fish sauce which adds a nice kick to the wings. The pork paper wraps were grilled perfectly and came with fresh herbs on the side. You assemble the wraps yourself which is great because you can decide how much or little of everything you want. The dipping sauce was delicious! It's a hoisin/peanut butter sauce- adding siracha made it even more tasty! Service was great and I noticed a lot of people ordering take out. They don't validate if you park in the garage.

    Vegan Pho

I've been coming here for years now. Their vegan pho broth and shrimp salad rolls are good. It's been a while since I've been here, probably since the restaurants reopened again after the pandemic. I dined with my mom, we were seated right away. You can tell they're short staffed (like most restos) because it took them a minute to get our water and order but their food is still pretty tasty! Nonetheless, the staff is very nice. Parking can get tricky here since it's mostly along street parking. Inside the restaurant, they are now seating at the bar and have adorable lights on the ceiling above dining floor. I ordered their vegan pho (southern style) with tofu and their shrimp salad rolls. Their pho only comes with rice noodles, carrots, jicama, onions, and the sides: a little Thai basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, and a wedge of lime. I like to order a side of cilantro. Although their tofu has changed to a square shape instead of a flat soft strip kind, it is still my place to go for pho. I'd like it if there was more of the Thai basil on the side as well as mint in the shrimp rolls.

    Chicken Lettuce Wrap

They make a good bowl of pho. Seems a couple bucks more expensive than some other places. I got an order of the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and for pho I chose the Extreme Cuts which had brisket, meatball, tendon and tripe. The chicken for the wraps was very tasty! I liked that they have the lettuce on the sides so you can make your own wraps, but since they just chop off a quarter of an iceberg, only the first half of it is going to be good for wraps before it starts getting all rindy. The pho was excellent as well. It was my first time trying tendon so I have no reference but don't think I am a big fan - tasted essentially like globs of lard to me, don't think I need to pay extra for that next time. The rest of the meats were good tho and I drank every last sip of that broth up.

Pho with Beef Brisket & Fried Pork Spring Rolls

We were looking for some place to eat driving from Park City to Salt Lake City for our flight that left out of Salt Lake City. This was decently rated Pho and I would agree. Nothing absolutely spectacular but still good. I like that their bowls weren't absolutely GINORMOUS but still a decent size (you can also upgrade the size to 48oz for $4). They also allow you to complete customize your pho between the meat choices and upgrades. They also have banh mi's, spring rolls, rice plates, vermicelli salad and some stir fries. We ordered the Fried Pork Spring Rolls and, I personally wasn't a fan. Not what I'm used to from our local spot in Chandler, Arizona. The batter around the roll was not an actual egg roll wrapper which made it crunchier, but I didn't love the texture. Also the filling, to me, was just ok. This might just be personal preference

I like to try new restaurants every time I am in town for work. I decided to order in as it was cold and snowy today. I ordered the beef brisket Pho and the crab cheese wontons. Overall I would say the food was just OK. First and foremost, my food arrived warm/cold. The Pho was barely warm and very bland. I asked for the crab cheese wontons to be cooked a little darker and they were still very anemic looking and very cold. I probably won't order from this restaurant again.

Fun fact: there is a place in Hanoi that is called pho thin. I informed the owner about pho thin in Salt Lake and apparently they are not affiliated. However, pho thin Salt Lake has two northern favorites I have not seen elsewhere around here: northern style pho and breadsticks. In the Hanoi location, you sit in an alley and a man separate from the store comes by to sell you breadsticks. They are light and crispy and delicious. The salt lake version sells everything from one spot and they don't let motorcycles drive through the store. But they still make pretty good pho.

    French Butter Tofu Banh Mi
    C M.

I am insanely grateful that there are vegan and vegetarian options that taste as though someone was trying to make them taste like something. The portions are reasonable. I like that the pho actually had things in it (often it is little other than broth and noodles) and that you could add things to it. The baguette of the banh mi was well toasted and the service was good. Buuuuttt, the banh mi was soaked through, making it hard to eat AND it tasted more like Vietnamese stir fry than banh mi AND the vegan pho's flavor was only ok.

I wanted to like my experience so much, but it started off poorly from the jump. When I arrived to pick up my order it took 10 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me and when I was asked what the name was on the order nothing was done with that information. The restaurant was being ran in such a chaotic way. When I got home and ate my food the pho was lukewarm and there wasn't any lettuce with the lettuce wraps I ordered...

When visiting Utah we stopped by Pho Thin to have some pho after not having pho for about 2 weeks! Right off the bat when walking in it felt so cozy and homey. We were greeted and seated right away. Everyone in my family ordered pho and we got our food quickly. The pho was delicious, however the only thing I did want to mention was that the beef was either overcooked or not fresh. It fell apart really easily. Other than that, everything was delicious and the bowl filled me right up and I felt very refreshed afterwards!

The best beef pho noddles I have had in Salt Lake so far! Love their broth and the thin noodles! It is going to be my Vietnamese go to place from now on!

Here is where the identity crisis starts. You walk into a nice space with red velvet decor and Italian landscapes. I had to do a double-take to make sure we were in the proper establishment. The menu has photos of their dishes, great for a visual eater like myself. We started with the soft shell crabs in a chili sauce. The crabs were lightly battered, crisp and a delicious taste. We saved the sauce to pour over our rice, an added bonus. The pad Thai was to sweet, and over-run with red onions. This is not a combo I'm familiar with, not my favorite. The pork spiced ribs with honey, tomatoes, Thai spices and sesame oil was unique and good. They fell off the bone tender. What is stuck in my craw is the message sent by the physical space. Beautiful red velvet chairs, Italian landscapes and wine bottles lining the walls does not lend to fine Thai dining in my mind. A least paint over the walls and add SOME Thai touches. Let your wait staff know living on cell phone and ignoring patrons is never a winning message. The male bathroom has a toilet covered with painted tape and several missing pieces of porcelain. Are you a serious business or a pop-up finishing off someone else's lease? Attention to details are important and help set the table way before the food arrives. I wish Ve La Thai Fine Dining the best, but question their commitment after being here for over a year, perhaps it is all intentional.

It may have been because of the fact that it was Valentine's Day and they were super busy, or because we didn't have a reservation, but we waited 30 minutes to place our order. I ordered the thai chili basil stir fry with tofu and they brought it with chicken. So I had to have them redo the order because I am vegetarian. My mom ordered the pad khee mao, my aunt ordered something else but asked to substitute the rice for noodles . They said ok. But then came back 10 minutes later and said no substitutions. So she ordered the same dish as my mom. My niece ordered stir fried rice with seafood. My mom, aunt and I absolutely LOVED our dishes and thought they were super tasty. Mine had an abundance of veggies and really good sauce. Wow! It was really good. My niece thought her dish was only ok, but she is super picky and has them take out half the ingredients, and does not like a LOT of food, so I wouldn't take her opinion! The server never came back to check on us and it took another 30 minutes after we were done eating to catch someone's eye to get them to bring our check. Again, I don't know if this was because they were busy and it was Valentine's Day or what. But they had at least 10 people waiting to be seated the entire time we were there, so you would think they'd be more interested in turning the tables over to get more people seated. The restaurant has very cool walls and ceilings (the decor) and is in a very lovely deep purple/plum color. It is vey nice and does look upscale inside. We laughed about this place being in a smith's grocery mini mall area because the inside was so incongruent with the outside. Despite the incorrect food and lousy service, we did agree we would want to go back because the food was so amazing. But decided that the next time we go, we'll make sure to make reservations just in case that was part of the issue when we visited it for the first time on Valentines Day without reservations!
