Fresh Spring Rolls
Diana G.

I ordered my food to go and ate it at the Sneaky Penguin next door while I was having some drinks. The Spring Rolls were fresh, crunchy, minty, and paired perfectly with the peanut sauce. I also had the Banh Mi Sandwich with Tangy Hoisin Chicken, and it was tasty and fresh. I wished the sandwich had a bit more filling, even a few more vegetables would have been nice. Overall, this is a good place to get takeout while at the Sneaky Penguin!

The food was a pleasant surprise/experience albeit not authentically Vietnamese and definitely more Asian inspired dishes. We ordered the M5 garlic ginger chicken rice plate which was very tasty. I highly recommend it! We also ordered the M7 aka wonton dry noodles and they were a bit mushy and the chicken option we opted for tasted like repurposed Costco rotisserie so that was a disappointment. It came with a bowl of broth and "wontons" which looked like store bought frozen dumplings and only comes with 2 in the bowl along with a couple carrot slices and some broccoli. The dish comes with bok choy on the side which had a decent flavor, a bit gingery and hoisiny and tasted like chicken broth too but also a tad overdone. I loved my dish (the beef slow cook) BUT there was hardly any tendon or meat so the description was somewhat misleading. The flavors were definitely on point but meat was meager and it comes with lime and jalapeño and has bok choy and carrot in it. It seems more like fusion cooking as opposed to traditional Vietnamese cuisine but it's pretty yummy and something I could see myself eating on the regular without getting sick of it. I mean, they have fries, hush puppies, and crab Rangoon available as sides. It doesn't get more western than that haha The service was really slow and took about 25 mins for the food to come out (maybe even half an hour). This seemed to be true for everyone dining in the restaurant. The takeout orders were ready somewhat quickly though. The way you order feels like fast food dining but the ambience and way the restaurant is laid out feels like a sit down restaurant with table service. We chose to sit in the sofa/couch/ottoman style seating for those who prefer a cozy couch dining experience. I wouldn't recommend it for those with kids because they absolutely will jump on it. I feel like the restaurant would look nicer without this type of seating but as far as comfort, obviously I gravitated towards it. The sticky rice dishes sounded good. I'll try that next time. Probably with bbq or grilled pork. Oh, they also allow you to drink your beverages from the sneaky penguin next door which is super cool of them.

The Pho was decent but not amazing. The Thai tea was okay as well. Large dining room that is well decorated.

We haven't visited this restaurant since their opening month and thought we would try it for a warm meal on a cold winter night that is preparing for winter weather warnings. We ordered online and chose pick up, the receipt reflects the order. We arrived 10 minutes before the pick up time. We went inside & There was only table with a family finishing up their meal and playing with their small children. Our order was not ready. The staff behind the counter became flustered at out , checked between the TWO tickets & told us it would be several minutes., then she ran into the back. We sat in some soft comfy chairs for the wait. Looking at the general area, this shopping strip had several units up for lease & the general area was bleak. We had stopped in the Dollar General next door and it was a disaster zone with shelves un-stocked or knocked onto the floor; but that is another review...The order was filled in less than 10 and another staff person asked us about utensils and sauces. We headed out for home. The food was hot and all the trimmings were fresh & plentiful. The spicy broth delivered on the flavor, where the plain veggie broth was a bit bland. The menu also does not offer fish balls, which I thought were fairly common for the dish. The review rating reflects the blatant inaccuracy of the order and the lack of follow up from them . The order specified one tofu and one beefsteak Both proteins were tofu! We called to let them know and their solution was to come back out to get it. A 30-35 minute trip to do so was not going to happen. We were cold and hungry! Upon reflection, I wonder why Pho Sure did not deliver the missing item to make up for their error.

The also has all the side condiments you would want to go with your pho which is hard to find around here. The service was also amazing, they sat us down quickly, took our orders almost right away, and the food came out in about 10-15 minutes. The restaurant itself was well decorated, bright, and clean. I will 100% be coming back when I am in the area.

Second visit. First time, slow service but good food. We gave grace…read more This time? A reminder that aesthetic does not equal execution. The space is lively and well-designed. It photographs beautifully. Unfortunately, restaurants aren't judged on lighting. We ordered everything upfront: Banh Xeo (explicitly no shrimp due to a shellfish allergy), Cha Gio, Pho Tai, and the Chef Special. Somehow, not everything was entered correctly. The Banh Xeo arrived covered in shrimp. Allergy clearly stated. It was sent back immediately. We were told they could remake it, but it would "take a while because it takes a long time to make." Banh Xeo takes under 10 minutes in a properly run kitchen. We declined and assumed the rest of our meal would arrive promptly. It didn't. The egg rolls weren't just fried, they were fully baptized in oil. One bite and it felt like chewing on a sponge that lost a fight with the fryer. Then we watched tables seated at least 15 minutes after us receive their food before we did. When we asked about the remainder of our order, we were told it had "just been added" and would take a while. Pho taking 35+ minutes in a Vietnamese restaurant isn't high volume. It's disorganization. The Chef Special was decent. The pho, which should be the backbone of the menu, was underwhelming. Several tables around us had incorrect orders or long delays. The owner circulated, but instead of urgency or accountability, the energy felt inconvenienced. Here's the reality: great atmosphere can draw people in once. Food and leadership bring them back. If you're going because it looks trendy and buzzing, go in with eyes open. The aesthetic might be the star of the room, but the food should be.

I'm glad we walked,…read morebecause finding parking would have been tough- and probably would've resulted in us walking just as far. I like Vietnamese food, but the options are limited where I live- and the options for vegetarians are even MORE limited at most Vietnamese spots. This spot is different- they have a whole page of vegan options on the back of the menu. My vegan pho with tofu was wonderful, and I loved the kick from the chili oil. I also liked adding the pho toppings, and they brought us extra bean sprouts since my husband and I both love them. I didn't have anything to drink, but all of the drinks were super reasonably priced. My husband had a beer. The bar has everything you could want to drink as well as mocktails. The portions are large, and when we got to-go containers, the employees even brought us plastic bags to pack each container in, so nothing leaked on our walk home. That was a nice touch and well appreciated. My husband got a bahn mi for later, and it was also packaged well for a to-go item. Anise is a great choice for pho or other Vietnamese foods in Raleigh, and if I lived nearby, I'd be a regular here and try everything on the vegan menu.

We dined there tonight for the first time since they took over. And we're pleased to see they have fixed things up. We ordered the Pho and also the grilled chicken vermicelli with vegetables. The pho had a nice flavor and was well cooked. The vermicelli dish featured fresh crisp vegetables and the grilled chicken had a very nice marinade which I had never seen at any other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The staff were very friendly and our order was taken quickly and accurately. Our food also arrive quickly and tasted good. We're glad to say the new owners have improved most every aspect of the restaurant and we will be coming back as regular customers. Recommend you give them a try.

We were seated right away, the server was super fun and friendly. There are for sure regulars that come here. The server knew a lot of people by name, for pick up orders and sitting inside. The Pho is for sure the best thing on the menu. If I would have only had the Pho it would have been a five star experience. I however had the combination and bbq chicken Banh mi Sandwiches and the shrimp spring rolls. The spring roll was crispy on the outside but still frozen on the inside. They remade it and the outside tasted like burnt oil and the inside was still cold. The Banh mi Sandwiches were full of super fresh veggies, I loved that! The downside is the combination one had no Mayo so I had to ask for some. The other downside was that the bbq chicken one had no sauce at all and very little chicken. Again, the veggies were really crunchy and fresh which I loved. Overall I would for sure go back for the Pho, it was delicious. One of the best broths I've had at a Pho spot.

I stopped in just a they were opening on a Friday and thank goodness I showed up when I did, this place gets packed quick and you should book a reservation to be on the safe side. I was most excited about the duck egg rolls but ended up being my least favorite not because they were slightly on the dry side. Flavor was good, and the hoisin honey sauce really helped! The seafood dumplings were second best, stuffed full. The soup based was amazing and it also came with some bread for dipping in the leftover sauce. The pork and chive shumai were my favorite! A little bit bigger than bit sized but worth the mouth full! Absolutely would recommend. I'll 100% be back for more food. The bar side looked to be more casual, the dinning room was full of high tea attire so I did feel a little under dressed, thought it would be slightly more casual. They have the cutest library with free books to read but only while you dine in. The flower and book shop are in the middle of the space. Super cute, limited options but great for a last minute bouquet!
