We had a weekend lunch at Ton Noodles. For an appetizer we tried the Japanese Karaage. The dish consists of small chunks of battered and fried dark-meat chicken. Served hot out of the fryer, it was fantastic and the highlight of our meal - highly recommended. The accompanying spicy mayo sauce wasn't spicy and had a weird gelatinous texture, but the chicken doesn't need it. I had the meatball curry rice for an entree and thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite having a 1-chili rating on the menu, it had almost no heat. However, the meatballs were very flavorful and the brown curry gravy was delicious. My dining companion had the tonkatsu ramen and thought it was very good; it had a generous serving of pork belly and she noted the egg was perfectly cooked. This is a tiny restaurant, but it does offer table service. Overall, the service was OK, but could use a bit of refinement to take the overall rating to five stars. Lately it seems like all of the restaurants we try offer mediocre meals and a poor value. Ton Noodles was a nice change of pace, with appropriately-sized portions of very tasty, well prepared meals, and offered a good value. Recommended! read more

This was my second time here and per usual it doesn't disappoint. The first time I sat in the restaurant and ate and today I did carry out. While the restaurant is small it makes you feel transported to a local Japanese noodle bar. The server who took my order was friendly and the take out process was smooth. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and it was so flavorful. But, let's take a minute to appreciate the packaging the toppings were in a tray above the broth, so while it was a little DIY it was fun. Excellent Tonkatsu!! They include a nice spectrum of toppings and the chashu is always tender and flavorful!! Broth is rich, with great flavor and deeply satisfying...at a very reasonable price. Their service is always friendly and the shop is wonderfully decorated with all sorts of Japanese anime, songs, and kitsch. And their menu is pretty extensive. The tomkha ramen is really quite good! Not as wow-worthy as the one Koi Ramen had for a while, but the flavors were still good. I may come back to try some of their other menu items. I'd say it's more like a 3.5 or 3.75. Ton Noodles is a welcome addition to the chain restaurant hell that is North Raleigh. Tucked away in a corner next to the Six Forks Target, this small, cute space with very attentive servers makes for a comfortable little neighborhood spot. To be honest, the food is just okay. I can name at least 3, probably more, places in Raleigh/Cary where you can get better ramen, udon, or jigae but there's nothing similar nearby. The menu skews Japanese but they also serve Taiwanese rice plates and Korean army stew. We ordered the sliced cucumbers to start and they were rather good, sitting in a pool of lightly sweetened soy sauce and sprinkled with ichimi togarashi. The shrimp tempura that arrived with the udon were hot and properly fried. They were also somewhat bland, as were the broths of both the udon and tonkatsu ramen. Both needed a generous sprinkling of the togarashi to give them some life. That's especially disappointing for the tonkatsu whose broth should be very rich. Both the udon and the ramen noodles were overcooked, although not severely. The egg in the ramen was correctly soft and jelly-like. The portions are lunch-sized and may or may not do for dinner. If I'm truly craving excellent ramen I will go elsewhere but if I just want a quiet, decent meal locally, Ton Noodles will fill that need perfectly. read more

I enjoyed the interior decorating but was a little disappointed that much of the art on the walls seemed to be AI-generated. Considering that there are many artists that sell anime and manga prints online for reasonable prices, I felt this was a missed opportunity. My mom and I ordered takeout from here for lunch. It was made to order and sent home with us really quickly! The people working at the restaurant were really nice, and at a glance, the restaurant's interior was really cute! My favorite out of what we ordered was the Taiwan braised pork belly over rice bowl which had a delicious sweet brown sauce. The rice was perfect with it! The pork belly bun was also really delicious and the bread was soft! They didn't skimp on fillings. We enjoyed the chicken dumplings too, but were disappointed by the seasoning of the seaweed salad. The broth of the ramen was bursting with flavor and I really liked the very thin straight noodles they used in their ramen. After experiencing my first restaurant Ramen a few months ago, coupled with battling the first signs of winter -- Ramen it is! Enter Ton Noodles - reasonably priced with a decent Yelp rating. Let's go! We ordered: N1, R1, Cucumber Salad, Shrimp Tempura, Pork Belly Bun, and Japanese Karaage to go. I think I would have enjoyed the food more had I eaten there. With that being said, I thought the Ramen was solid. I did add chili garlic sauce to N1, for additional complexity and to increase the heat. The picky eater (selective/limited palate) among us especially enjoyed the cucumber salad and the pork belly. "It's delicious ". I thought everything was solid and reasonably priced. Terrible experience. Ordered the pork ramen Tan over the phone, asked to substitute chicken. When I got to the restaurant I was told that my order was SPICY, which was not correct. I only asked to substitute chicken. I asked how spicy it was and the lady said not much. That was not true. The ramen sauce is RED and extremely spicy!!! Omg! So good. I've seen this place the last few weeks but just found out it opened and checked it out today. The servers were super friendly and attentive. Maybe because it's new and we were there relatively late (8PM, they close at 9) but it was almost empty though I don't think it'll stay that way on weekends/Fridays. We got our appetizers seriously in less than five minutes and they were both sooo good (takoyaki and chicken gyoza). Another few minutes and we got our ramen, the Tonkotsu and the spicy tan tan men. Super generous portion sizes and it was probably the best ramen or tied for the best I've had in Raleigh. I wish they had more ramen types but three is already plenty on top of the udon/other options on the menu that I just didn't try. The place itself is super chill and has I guess classic ramen restaurant decorations, as well as large tables, tables for couples, and a counter to eat at as well. Really cute/cool decorations and an overall really cozy atmosphere with good music. 10/10 place honestly. My daughter and I were at the mall, but we left craving some ramen and did not want to eat at Kanki, so we decided to try this new place out. We're so happy we did! It was a Tuesday and the plaza had plenty of parking. Only one other person was eating at the counter stools when we arrived around 2pm. Soon after we were greeted by a kind woman, she told us we could choose where we wanted to sit. The restaurant is bright, clean and decorated nicely (I only found out near the end of the meal that they have only been open for a month!). There was a small stand that had a sign indicating we could use what was there (condiments, takeout containers, napkins). I appreciated having this self-serve area instead of waiting on staff for any extras. My daughter said the bathroom was tidy and we placed our orders upon her return. Within 10 minutes we were served our appetizers: shrimp shumai and karaage. Both were very tasty, however I think the karaage could have spent an extra 2 minutes in the fryer to be really good. The lemon wedge really amped up the flavor. I also asked for some chili oil from our server and she was happy to oblige. Soon after, our bowls of udon and ramen arrived. My daughter loved her shrimp tempura (she was happy it was served on the side of her udon so it wouldn't get soggy so fast, as we've experienced at other places). She also appreciated her noodles were super chewy and her soup was garnished with everything she loves: sliced fish cake, bok choy and scallions. We asked for no bean sprouts out of preference. For my Tan Tan Men, our server indicated they used ground chicken instead of traditional pork (not sure why) and it was just as yummy. I only used a small amount of additional chili oil, otherwise it was well-seasoned. The noodles were chewy, the egg perfectly soft-boiled (although a true, cured ramen egg would have made this perfection) and the garnishes were just right. The check out process was quick and we were able to help ourselves to our own takeout containers. I started chatting with Kevin, one of the servers who brought me my check and a paper bag for our takeout and he was genuinely curious what we thought of our meal (this is when I found out they were a very new restaurant). He was very friendly and welcoming and I told him I would bring back the rest of my family the next time we were in the area. Great food. The Tom Kha noodle soup is AMAZING and insanely good. They add too many noodles, so when I'm at the restaurant, I ask for the noodles to be served separately and to add extra broth.
