Ambiance is pretty bare and simple but the service was quick and everyone was nice. I got the tonkotsu ramen and replaced the meat for chicken. My friend got the curry laksa soup which she enjoyed. It was pretty good and as expected but the eggs were cold in the middle, I'm not sure how that happens but it was still tasty after being submerged in the broth. I was nervous to order the ultra spicy version of any dish but was relieved when they told me the chili oil can come on the side. The noodles were cooked well and not mushy/overcooked. The eggs, save the cold middle, were perfectly cooked - not overly cooked with some softness in the center. Not the most authentic place but a good option if you are in the area or finishing an appt in the village! I got here about 30 minutes prior to closing and I try not to do that for obvious reasons but I didn't have many options. The restaurant is simple and unassuming. My wife had the curry soup and I had the pad see ew. Both were well executed. The curry was on point and the pad was light. The pictures look amazinv but the peanut noidles just didnt deliver. The scrambled egg mixed into the sauce made a weird texture. There is no way to adjust spice and it comes in at a medium. The noodles wete tough and had to be pried apart from their hockey puck shape. Finally, the chicken was plain boiled where grilled would have added so much flavor. Its a "meh" from me. I've been a customer at Zanyu / Lotus Noodle House since 2020 and they have not once ever disappointed me. The waiter that usually serves me & my friends is super nice and friendly :) Most of us have a pretty consistent order and it seems he remembers them pretty well which goes above and beyond in regards to service. I love the location of this place (Lafayette Village) and I was very interested by all the noodle options this place offered but ended up personally not being a fan. However, they had great service and cute indoor and outdoor seating. The vegan/vegetarian options here are very weak. They offered two vegan options that didn't look that great so when we requested a curry sauce instead we were disappointed to find out it was all chicken broth based. I understand this is usually the case for most noodle places though. Due to that, he was only able to get the veggie spring rolls but he said they were great! I was really excited to try the Khao Soi noodles after seeing all the pictures of it but it was veryyyyy sweet. The coconut curry sauce was actually way too sweet, and my bowl had an overwhelming amount of chicken in it compared to very little noodles. This wasn't my taste at all but I'm sure the pad thai, drunken noodles, ramen, etc options were way better so I would just advise not getting the khao soi. read more

I am OBSESSED with Zanyu Asian Noodles! The first time I visited was completely spontaneous. We sat outside which was really nice. I had ordered the Mee Lao with crispy chicken and my husband ordered the Khao Soi Noodle Soup. We also shared the combo buns. Service was friendly and super quick. Both dishes were outstanding but I was wishing I had ordered the Khao Soi because man, that was AMAZING. The buns were also outstanding! I feel like you can't go wrong with anything from the menu, though. The second time was for pickup. I had ordered two Khao Soi Noodle soups, and Mee Lao for my mother in law, and spring rolls to share. The order was ready when I arrived and packaged nicely. The food was as delicious as I remembered. I love trying new things but when you find that one dish you absolutely favor, it's hard trying something else from the menu. I love ramen so I was excited to take myself on a Sunday date to a new place. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen (without any veggies,) and loved it! The broth was very savory and I found the noodles cooked perfectly. The egg was also excellently cooked and flavorful. I usually order the Beef Pho Lao (Beef broth, spices and herbs, rice noodles, beef and garnish) and my husband orders the Tonkatsu Ramen. The Pho is very good and aromatic and I like it very much but my husband says that the Tonkatsu Ramen is inconsistent. Sometimes the pork is good and sometimes it isn't. I think spring is finally on its way! The weather was perfect today for sitting on Zanyu's patio and enjoying a big bowl of ramen while watching all of the happenings at Lafayette Village. The chicken shoyu ramen was loaded with noodles, a perfectly-cooked egg and a rich broth. The chicken was very dry and on the tough side, though (but still tasty). My friend got the Lao Pad Thai. It had more vegetables and looked more like a salad than the Pad Thai we're used to, but he liked it. The serving was huge, and our sweet, friendly server was quite impressed that he finished the whole thing! All employees wore masks, patrons are also required to wear masks and there is a QR code at each table so you can access a touch-free menu. The inside is very small and narrow, with few available tables, but the socially-distanced patio is much larger and is a great choice for enjoying their food. read more

However, the execution was okay- I got the laksa, but the noodles did not soak up the broth as much as I wanted it to. It was also pretty oily, as the oils and the broth would separate from each other often. We also had the pad Thai with crispy chicken, but the chicken wasn't as juicy as I would have liked, and the pad Thai noodles were very chewy. The ambience is nice and this would be a good place for an outdoor dining experience, but I would probably go to Yin Dee or Rasa Malaysia for their noodles instead! read more

Loved it very much! -Spicy Miso ramen very much was spicy it was in the form that I had to take a bit of break from eating spicy ramen (yet again I am weak when it comes to spicy food but still try to build my tolerance) I would try it whenever I feel for the challenge. In all I would come back to Zanyu and try again its all fresh and made with love! The employees working are very kind and outgoing! I personally think the patio and dine in is small but its in a rented location (you kinda got work with what you have). The place is located in a very unique trail of restaurant and cafes that I have yet to try! What a great addition to Lafayette Village! I can't believe it took me 9 months to try them! They are located in the corner of Lafayette Village (As you know parking over there can be a little tough so be aware). If you are looking something quick yet tasty, Zanyu is the place to go to! The restaurant itself is shaped quite oddly. It very long and narrow and looks more like a food court than a restaurant, which I don't mind as long as the food is good! I went in on a Wednesday for dinner. They were not crazy busy but customers were coming in steadily. I got there a bit early so I waited inside for my friend. While waiting, I was looking at the menu and the chef/owner, Michael came and talked to me. He is very personable and knowledgeable. I loved hearing about the pork belly process as well as his experience in Asia. You can tell that he is very passionate about this restaurant. I was torn between Pork Belly Confit Miso Ramen and Khao Soi Noodles. He said the Pork Belly one has been the most popular since they opened but last month, Khao Soi actually beat it so I decided to try Khao Soi Noodles. So you order at the counter, prepay, you take your drink, and they bring the food to your table. I could see that some people can feel rushed but I didn't at all. The cashier lady gave me a menu that I can take to my table to look over. Their menu is pretty simple but they have plenty of options. I like that they have both dry and soupy noodles for those that don't like soupy noodles. Vegan friends, they do have vegan noodles too! As of right now, they only have 1 actual vegan noodle bowl but from what the chef told me, you can swap out noodles and broth to your liking so really they really have plenty of options for everyone. I ordered Khao Soi Noodles, egg noodles served with tangled crispy noodles, cilantro, fried shallots in Northern Thai chicken curry soup. YUM! Egg noodles were very thick, the broth was rich, savory, and flavorful. I especially liked the occasional crispy noodles along with the soft egg noodles. It had a little kick to it but if you wanted it a bit more spicy, you can add the roasted chili sauce! My friend ordered Pork Belly Confit Miso Ramen and she really liked it. We've both been disappointed at a few ramen/noodle restaurants so we were delighted that we found this tasty gem! Rich broths, perfectly cooked noodles...there's a lot of complexity going on in these noodle dishes! You can tell that they've worked hard to perfect them and to make sure that each element is just right. Six of us met for lunch recently on a rainy Tuesday. I managed to get there before the rest and took the time to peruse the menu. Having a hard time deciding which to try, the owner was kind enough to let me sample one of the broths I was curious about. Much appreciated and it did help me decide. Note: order at the counter...water is offered, but they also have bottled drinks including Japan's number one green tea (Oi Ocha) which made me and DIL happy. Grab your drink, pay and sit down. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The place is small, but we didn't have a problem finding room for the six of us. They will bring your bowl of delicious goodness to you. The Chicken Shoyu Ramen minus 'shrooms but with added chili oil on the side, could not have been more perfect for me. I loved the minced chicken, the rich broth, the sweet fried tofu, the seasoned egg, the seaweed....yum! I wanted to wait to review Zanyu until after trying it a second time. Well, I tried it for a second time tonight, and I'm teetering between 3 and 3.5 stars (Yelp really needs to get on offering half star ratings). I digress... Our first pickup order was Valentine's Day, so I didn't want to judge this place based on their takeout on the busiest night of the year (they forgot our pork buns--and were not very apologetic about it--and my soup was just okay). The spring rolls were the best part of the meal that night. Tonight was round 2. For apps, we shared the pork buns and spring rolls--both were great. The pork bun was the perfect texture and the meat was delicious and sticky. My entree is where things really went wrong, though. My partner got the Mee Kar Thee which was tasty but reminiscent of the Red Curry noodles I got last visit (seems to be their "foundational" broth). I got the Larb Gai and it was just... not good. Not good in any way. The chicken lacked flavor and sat atop a bed of wilted lettuce (not to mention the old cilantro and yellowish cucumbers it was garnished with). It was sort of reminiscent of a halfhearted chicken cheesesteak salad; the whole time I was trying to eat it, my palate was just confused. The food here is fantastic. I've recently become pretty good at navigating my way around Lafayette Village. And thankfully so, otherwise I never would've stopped here for lunch what with the often nonexistent parking. My car was pretty far away from my destination, but lucky for me I knew a few zig zags that helped me bypass walking around the entire complex. It was half busy, almost just the way I like businesses to be. Normally, I like to have a place all to myself. Bad for business, but good for me. In a perfect world, everyone in the area would decide to eat or shop at the same place as me AFTER or BEFORE I'd been there. That introvert life. You order, take a seat, and wait for your food to be brought out to you . Fair enough, just not obvious. I'm sure the staff tire of having to tell newcomers how it works all the time. Case in point, the waitresses/cashiers weren't jazzed about work that day. Not grouchy, not enthusiastic - indifferent. It didn't sway my mission to get noodles. I got the braised beef with soba noodles and a pork bun. The soup was great, however loaded with sodium. The taste was pretty overpowering. The noodles were very good, but they were super stingy with them and I had to ask for extra noodles. The manager or owner or whatever was really cool and hit me off with some, making the bowl nice and full. The real star of my show was the pork bun. Never could I have ever predicted that such a thing would ever enter my life. I think Zanyu is a great additional to Lafayette Village, especially if you are looking for something quick. I like that they have both soup noodle bowls and dry noodle bowls. My husband isn't super into soups, so this is perfect for him. I got the Wonton Noodle Soup and it was flavorful and satisfying. My husband got the Wonton Noodle Dry and he really enjoyed it as well. The dumplings were super tasty and I didn't even really need the pork that came with it as well. The bok choy definitely needs to be cut down. While having the whole piece looks good, it isn't practical when trying to eat it along with the soup. We went on a Friday night and the place was busy, but not slammed. Everyone was able to find a table within five minutes of arriving. It's small in there and not the best option for large groups. The space is a bit long and oddly shaped but fine for what they're doing. I tried a fantastic dry wanton noodle bowl that came with perfectly fried wantons and topped with fried shallots and BBQ pork. Also did an amazing niku udon that had thin slices of beef in an oniony broth, fantastic! While I don't live close to Zanyu Asian Noodles, I've made the drive up a couple of times because it's super tasty and different. I live on the on the opposite side of Raleigh so I don't make it up North much but this was worth the drive. It's always nice to take a walk through the shops here. I am happy to hear that this restaurant was added to the strip. Whenever you think "noodles", you don't have many expectations but to find a quality bowl of "noodles" is rare, especially in Raleigh. The restaurant is small with an awkward layout but it doesn't define the experience. The flavors of the broth blew me away and were different from most places. I went with the curry noodles, topped with perfectly fried wontons strips. The owner came around to say, "hello" which was cool. She gave me a background of how the restaurant came to be along with her journey. Overall, great customer service! SO... this place was very tasty. Customer service was nice. The view outside to eat was good extremely cool to enjoy a nice bowl of ramen. From the pork belly bowl to bao buns to the chicken bowl... on a road trip and wanted some good food and keep on the go. BUT they had one job and it was to give me a HOT bowl of soup... instead it was luke warm and sitting outside it got cold in under 3 mins. My first but of the soup I didn't even have to blow my noodles. Coulda just swallowed it whole since it had barely any heat. I would have asked for the microwave but I doubt the would have let me do that. Was within an hour of closing so maybe that's why the service to the food dropped.
