Beef Pho
Jake L.

Since trying this place a few months ago it quickly became one of our favourites. Now we're here every few weeks and we've never had a bad experience. All the portions here are pretty big and good value for your money. We always start with fresh spring rolls because they are so tasty. The beef spring rolls are our favourite, but when we're in the mood for something lighter we get the shrimp spring rolls which are also great. The Beef Pho is one of our favourites off the menu. The broth has tons of flavour and they give lots of meat and noodles. We also really enjoyed the Bun Bo Hue, which was delicious but just a little too spicy for us. I've tried the Broken Rice dishes and the Noodle Salad dishes, and although both are good I prefer the Noodle Salad. I always order it with grilled pork, pork sausage, shredded pork, and pork spring rolls and it's delicious. In addition to all the meat and noodles it's got a ton of fresh vegetables like lettuce, cucumber, and carrot. This is another one of our favourite dishes that we order almost every time we're here. The Vietnamese Coffee here is great and it's the only place I've seen where they grind up the ice which gives it a unique texture. I know at other pho restaurants it's common to get your pho within 5-10 minutes but they are a bit slower than that here. However, the service is great and the food is excellent so I'd highly recommend checking this place out. I know I'll be back again within a couple weeks.

Still a solid 4! This is my happy place in whitby and I am so grateful for the consistency and quality of food here. Since our first visit, we've dined in on multiple occasions, and the food has been so good each time. Now when I am in the East end and have a pho craving, this is my go to spot. Their pho broth is already flavourful but this time, it was further elevated by the complimentary sate sauce which added a delicious kick to the broth. I will happily continue eating here to support this family business!

Deserves 3.5 STARS I was around Whitby to get my child's passport done, and as you now know you need an appointment to go in; and Whitby was the only location available. Anyway, after our little errand we decided to stop around somewhere to grab a bite to eat. I searched on Yelp and decided to eat at Pho Sam. It seemed busy when we walked in for late lunch. The restaurant was very clean upon walking in, and for such a busy restaurant, there was only 1 staff working the floor and 1 chef in the back cooking it up. We got our order in, which was the fresh shrimp rolls, Pho Sam special, and mr. Tran got himself a vermicelli bowl. The fresh shrimp rolls came out first accompanied with a peanut hoisin sauce which wasn't too bad, I mean you can't really mess that up. Shrimps were decent sized, had vermicelli and lettuce wrapped into a burrito baby. This is where I deducted the stars.. Our pho and vermicelli order took 30 minutes to come out from the time we ordered our food.. in most pho businesses it usually takes max 5-10 minutes. When it did eventually come out, there was your typical plate of Thai basil, lime wedge, and bean sprouts, but my bowl of pho looked short of a special. There was only 6 rare beef slices and rice noodles. There was no beef ball, no tendon, no brisket, not even tripe. The flavour of the soup was good though. mr. Trans' vermicelli bowl looked surprisingly fresh and good when I saw it, but as he was eating it, his face looked dissatisfied. So I gave it a try, and I too was like hmm... the nem nuong (grilled pork meatballs) had a weird after taste to it and it was not pleasant. The thit nuong (grilled pork) was okay in taste, but texture wise, I believe they added a tenderizer to the point that the meat was too soft to chew and it felt off. I couldn't finish my bowl of pho and neither could mr. Tran. They are surely understaffed and need more man power in the kitchen. Will not be coming back for a while.

Their food is awesome. The place is so quiet because at a plaza that has little traffic. The boss has amazing service, and food is great. This is definitely a GEM in Durham.

Best pho in Whitby by far, the beef rib pho is delicious, and the fresh rolls are crunchy with the perfect peanut sauce. Honestly, hiiiighly recommend.

I came here twice during COVID times and finally decided to do a review …read more Ordered: XL house special pho and chicken / pork vermicelli with spring rolls Price- tad more expensive than regular pho places . Both were close to $12 each Size - portion was smaller than regular pho places especially the pho. The extra large felt like a regular sized . Also less meat .. Taste - more bland than regular pho places . The pho had to be the most bland soup I've ever tasted . Vermicelli was ok , tad more bland than what I'm use to but I didn't mind it Final comments - the thing that I really didn't like was they didn't give us any fresh herbs for the pho . It tasted almost like chicken soup with a tad bit beef flavor The first time I thought they must have forgotten it but same thing second time ! Also no peanuts on the vermicelli...and no tendons in our special pho O.o

I normally go to the Scarborough location it's really good. But I moved to Ajax and saw they had a…read morelocation closer and have tried it now 3-4 times and it's always the same issue: This location has the flavour but they rip you off. I got 2 oz of beef in a large... Scarborough gives you 6 oz. I'm litterally eating a plain soup. Lol The flavours are their the portions are not. This location is 13 mins from my house while the other location is 24 I'd rather the extra 10 minutes to get proper pho than waste my money hear. It sucks to leave a bad reviews during a pandemic but it is what it is. Don't rip off customers. I'll just continue going to the Scarborough location

So glad I tried this place. Co worker said this is her fave Vietnamese restaurant in Durham and…read moreshe's Vietnamese so decided to give it a try. We got takeout via in-store pickup. The restaurant is large and spacious inside with lots of booths. Lots of people waiting for pickup too. Ordered the B1 vermicelli combo with assorted meats, a spring roll, and a small beef brisket pho. Everything was tasty. Spring roll was skinny and could have pack more into it but it was pretty good. Love the pho. The the broth was just right, meat was tender. Really happy with the pho. Will be back!

We were craving some Viet food so stopped here hoping to fulfill our cravings ! Unfortunately this…read moredid not happen ! We got two vermicelli bowls aka bun ( house special and pork/spring roll vermicelli), two house special pho, 1 bun bo hue, 1 spring roll and 1 avocado smoothie ! The bun was so tasteless .. noodles were not like the regular Viet vermicelli but more like the Chinese style noodles and more dry . The meat tasted like curry and not like regular grilled meat .. it was also in a skewer format . The spring roll was weird, it's like a bunch of scrap ingredients were put into it forming the spring roll. The texture was soo strange - I've never ate anything like this ! The pho was very salty and did not have the beef bone taste ! They also didn't give any culantro or perilla ( purple leaf herb ) and only gave basil ! The avocado smoothie also tasted off - didn't personally try this but my Bro's gf said she had better ! The most disappointing was the fish sauce which was lacking fish sauce taste .. it was very weak tasting ! Overall , I was disappointed at my experience here and would not come back . 1 star for friendly staff and 1 star for the location - it was easy to find !

Tofu fresh roll is ridiculous with super small piece of tofu. The pho broth is tasty. The spring rolls is good. The pickled carrot/radish is not as good as other places, but considering it is mostly just a garnish (even though I eat it), it's acceptable, I guess. Grilled chicken vermicelli is delicious. The tofu fresh roll is a complete waste of money. Two thick rolls thats filled with noodles, some veg, and a small piece of tofu that's as long as, but HALF as thick as my thumb (about 2inches long, 3/4inch wide, 1/2cm thick), is not worth $10. It's just tofu, it's not steak, either put more tofu or lower the price, because that is ridiculous. Including pic of the tofu fresh roll cut to show the size of the tofu thats actually hidden under all the noodles until I pull it out to the front. When we went in, the whole place smelled like cleaning solution. Not a very appetitizing smell at all. We got the food to go.
