Pho Ben has become a popular Sugar Land staple for Vietnamese food, however I believe their quality…read morehas declined in recent years. While they seat and serve even large parties (I've visited with up to 12 people on a regular basis) with impressive speed, the quality of their food simply is not what it used to be. On this most recent visit I ordered a Pork Bahn Mi. The pork had absolute zero char, which I believe is integral to the sweet and savory char-grilled flavor promised in the menu description. As a result, the meat tasted as if it were stewed in an overcrowded pan leading to a rubbery texture. At a previous visit my baguette was also soaked and soggy, as if the pickled vegetables hadn't been drained before being added to the sandwich, then left to sit before service. I used to regularly order their pho, but have moved away from doing so as it tastes very average. On one hand their broth is consistent and does the job, especially if you are in a rush, but on the other hand is has no notable characteristics to speak of. Its aromatic blend doesn't particularly stand out and the broth doesn't have the deep flavor I would expect from Southern-style pho. The staff is always helpful and accommodating to the large parties I visit with. They always look busy, though not in a way that bothers me, and it's easy to see why when you consider the rapid speed that they serve food and clear tables. Overall, Pho Ben does the job for a quick bite of Vietnamese food. Even with larger parties, I've never had to wait longer than ~15 minutes for a table, and once seated, food typically arrives in ~10 minutes. However, due to its declining quality, it has fallen off my list of go-to spots in Sugar Land.

The bowls they use are very aesthetic and I like the vibe of the overall establishment. It's generally quiet but you can eat your meal in peace. This is my go-to spot when I'm craving pho or when it gets cold outside. I've recommended this place to my coworkers and they've enjoyed it as well. I'll be back without a doubt!

Would highly recommend this restaurant for those wanting to experience a laid back filipino dining experience.

As you can tell, most of the stuff is kind of self-serve, which is normal for this kind of establishment. We came on a Sunday around 11 AM. It was a steady crowd. Tables and chairs are very clean. The light took a little bit to get used to. I think we picked the bad spot because the fan above us had a light above the fan so it kind of got stroby. The breakfast plate is garlic rice, one meat, some tomato slices, and two eggs. (The breakfast plate is served all day.) If you have a friend, get two breakfast plates and a street food (3 sticks of one type of meat only). And share that. It's very filling. The pandan dessert was a refreshing after dish but I think it would taste better cold. (I'll ask for some ice next time to put on top of it.) Parking is free and out front. There is a lot of space. This place is in a new looking plaza with plenty of shops ready to rent out.

The restaurant is spacious, with clean restrooms, making it an ideal spot to satisfy your pho cravings. The spring rolls were traditional and delicious, adding to the authentic experience. While I didn't try any of the other dishes, I noticed nearby tables enjoying generous portions of chicken, seafood stir fry, noodles and rice dishes --definitely a good value for the price. The service here is a hit or miss, however, given that it's a casual restaurant and the food is great. It's easily forgiven. It's absolutely worth a visit! If I lived closer, this would easily become a go-to spot for me.

When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. The restaurant is clean, the owner is very nice, and it's a nice low key space to just enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

The grilled meats, fresh herbs, perfectly cooked rice noodles all made up perfect bite after perfect bite. The portion is quite large and filling, so I definitely feel like this is a very good option if you're looking for Vietnamese but not just your typical pho and banh mi options. The pho was solid too, but the only complaint I will make about the pho is that the portion of meat was way too small, contrary to the bun cha. We ordered a build your own bowl, and it came with maybe 1 piece of each of the meats we selected. The broth itself was pretty good and perhaps one of the better pho soups in the area. Service is decent but I have yet to visit while it is busy. Each time I visit, there is only one person taking orders and bussing tables--the restaurant usually isn't busy so the one FOH staff is not as issue.

I ordered the lunch special, which included pho and two egg rolls. The plate of vegetables was brought to my table, but there was no basil. I looked around the restaurant and noticed that the only other customer I saw without basil was another Black woman. When my two egg rolls arrived, they were cold. I don't eat cold food, so I left them on the table untouched. I asked the gentleman serving me if I could please bring me some basil. Instead of bringing it himself, he spoke to the woman who had taken my order. She came back and asked what I needed. I said, "Some basil, please." She responded, "More?" At that point, I didn't respond. I simply thought to myself, You never gave me any in the first place. She then brought the basil to my table, but there was a fairly large bug on one of the basil sprigs. When my pho arrived, the noodles were overcooked and mushy, making the soup unpleasant to eat. From the moment I walked in, I did not feel welcomed. The overall service was disappointing, and the food quality was poor. When it was time to pay, I chose not to leave a tip. I usually tip generously when I receive good service, but I cannot reward poor service and substandard food. I left feeling that I was treated differently, and that was upsetting. Whether intentional or not, no customer should leave a restaurant feeling unwelcome or feel they were treated differently because of the color of their skin. If businesses want the support of the community, every customer deserves to be treated with the same respect, courtesy, and quality of service.
