Large portions, delicious food, excellent service, low prices, ample parking, and free wifi. I read one review that said that they were a bit hungry after eating a large pho, I think that they're nuts. The large pho is likely close to half a gallon, and I struggled to finish it. I only finished it out of principle, not because anyone actually needs to eat that much. If you're still hungry after eating a large pho from this place, I'm curious to see what you look like. I have the house special, and was amazed at how tender all the cuts of meat, especially the tripe and tendon, were. Plenty of meat and noodles, and a nice amount of basil and sprouts. Bookmarking this place for future visits.

Pleasant and friendly owners and delicious eats at a good price point. They tend to get so busy at lunch hour so I usually order and pickup. My absolutely favourite dish is E2 (Seafood chow mein) coupled with an avocado shake. Yum! Ridiculously delicious! I also placed a large order for frozen spring rolls and they were kind enough to accommodate (other places I called would not sell frozen spring rolls). I buy them frozen in bulk so I can cook them fresh myself for gatherings. Highly recommend!

Shrimp Rolls, peanut sauce was a little fish saucy but rolls were very fresh and tasty.

Possibly my new favourite Vietnamese spot in Guelph. Quick and friendly service, tasty food and good portion to price ratio. I came here because of the yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Pho Saigon won't blow you away, that's why I rate it 4 stars. But it seems dependable and checks all the boxes so I am down. I had the bbq pork and spring roll vermicelli as well as the shrimp rolls with peanut sauce. Both tasted very fresh and were portioned well. I also got a pot of green tea and wasn't charged for it.

Heavily influenced by yelp reviews to come here over other restaurants in the vicinity (Ben Thanh, Soora, etc.) The interior was a little roomier than expected, but still had that asian family-owned diner feel - down to the thin layer of stickiness coating every surface that I wasn't sure if it was grease or my sunscreen. We were pleasantly welcomed by a strong scent of basil and yummy soup though. Food buddy and I were starrrving and decided to order an appetizer to share (shrimp spring rolls) as well as a bowl of pho each. She got a large and I a small (saving room for dessert elsewhere) just to compare the difference in sizes. Within 3 minutes of giving in our self-written order sheet it seems, our shrimp rolls arrived! Bonus points for efficiency. They came with a peanut-sprinkled thick dipping and were quickly gobbled down, despite falling apart since the only binding ingredient was the rice paper wrapping. Soon afterwards, our steaming pho bowls arrived - she had gotten the default order of a-bit-of-everything in her soup, and I chose beef & tendon & something else I don't remember... Maybe it's because I've gotten used to the tastes of pho in the GTA, but I didn't find the broth/noodles as flavourful. The taste was still there, but with a much muted saltiness - good for lowering our sodium intake I guess - and better enjoyed as an aftertaste. I smothered hoisin sauce over every bite anyway, due to my mild addiction to the sweetness. We were both disappointed with the amount of STUFF in our bowls though. Aside from several slices of beef covering the ball of noodles underneath, there were literally 2 pieces of tendon in my entire bowl (I'm pretty sure I ordered 3 additions but whatever the 3rd one was, it never showed up). My poor friend had 1 piece of tripe, 1 small chunk of tendon, and half a meatball. Good thing that we were both too hungry to care and just enjoyed whatever we could fish out from the bottom. Overall conclusion: For $7, satisfactory pho with weak broth and meagre ingredients; wouldn't come out of my way again when there are tastier places like Golden Turtle and Viet Thai Restaurant around my neighbourhood. Or maybe I'm just being picky for a place like Guelph.

Bowl up close is a small P8. The one in background is a Large P1 house special.

Delicious, fresh and light Pho. Generous portions of meat. Met my needs for a delicious bowl of soup on a cold Canadian evening.

Chao Bistro - Green dining room in the interior of Chao Bistro

    Chao Bistro

I recently discovered Chao Bistro while enjoying some fresh rolls at Guelph's Multicultural…read moreFestival and was told to check out their restaurant on Elmira Road! Their place was a little hard to locate, considering it was all the way deep into a parking lot plaza and surrounded by company stores, but you know what they say, sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough. Here's my overall rundown: Food: I got the Pho (beef noodle soup) which came with rare beef, beef flank, and beef balls! This was prepared extremely fast and came with a side of bean sprouts, basil, and lime. The broth was rich and probably one of the best pho I've had in Guelph, besides my mom's cooking of course. Normally I add a lot of hoisin sauce into my broth, to add more flavour, but I didn't need it with this pho and only added sriracha. My mom ordered Hue style beef and pork noodle soup which was like a spicy pho broth. The flavours were there but not as flavourful as the pho! The server did however give us some fish paste in case we wanted to make it a little saltier to our liking! To top it all off, we were advised to get their milk tea which comes with homemade tapioca pearls for an additional 50 cents. We opted for the milk black tea but with less sugar because we're not fans of overly sweet drinks. The drink itself tasted great except it was a tad too sweet despite the sugar reduction. I couldn't imagine something being more sweet if it was normal sweetness! The tapioca pearls were interesting as it was an oblong shape rather than the typical spherical shapes you see in chain store pearls. Regardless, it tasted alright and definitely better than Chatime (a popular bubble tea chain) pearls, but not the best I've had! Atmosphere: It has this home-y family restaurant vibe and the servers make you feel at peace as they're pretty knowledgeable with their food and since they just opened, are receptive to your feedback for the food. There's about 10-15 tables and seating in the main serving area, as well as a separate open green room for additional sitting. Perfect for lunch or dinner with the family or friends. Service: Food came out very fast and the servers were attentive to your needs. They took the time to talk with customers and ask for your opinion about the food since they're new. Their location isn't the most optimal, which may affect business, and it's always hard to run a business if you're new. When we finished, the chef asked us to spread the word about their restaurant and you can see just how passionate the chef was for cooking. Made us wanting to come back for more to support them! Price: We paid $9.95 for the pho + an additional $2 for an upgrade to a large size. The Hue style soup was $10.95 and came in only one size. The milk tea turned out to be $4.50 for the large and $0.50 for the tapioca pearl toppings. It was pretty filling for everything and I'd recommend not upsizing the pho because this was A LOT for lunch! Verdict: Honestly, the food here was better than most Vietnamese places in Guelph as there's not much of a selection in the city. It's a shame that the location isn't ideal and lies deep within a parking lot plaza but I hope to come back here and see this business grow as there's lots of potential! Giving this a 4 star rating because there is definitely some work that needs to be done with their milk tea and pearls and their Hue style soup. I can also see their service getting a little impeded the more customers there were, but the individual moments we had with the servers more than makes up for that. Definitely come and support this business if you can!

Love love this place. Great alternative to the other viet restos in Guelph. The BBT milk tea is…read morereally good here! And the sizzling hot plate was solid choice as well. Get the bagguette version. Service was good. Its just poorly located in the very back of an industrial plaza. Doesnt bother me. I will keep coming! 5 stars *****
