Didn't realize the KW region actually has 2 Pho Dau Bo locations, since I usually go to the one at DT Kitchener because it's much more accessible by buses for students. This location is located near a more residential neighborhood, where most of the customers are families. If you drive it's recommended that you go to this location because there's a free parking lot. Compared to DT Kitchener location this one is a lot smaller, but the place is much nicer with better modern decors and has a general cleaner feel. We arrived at 5pm on Sunday for a casual dinner and the place was quite empty with just 1 other table. However, as time progresses there were more people coming in and by the time we left just before 6pm there was a line for tables. So it does seem like this is a local favourite. In terms of menu and prices this place is consistent with the other Pho Dau Bo franchised restaurants, and the soup tastes the same. However, I find that they give us less noodles than the other location as a Small 342 Pho Dac Bien (house special) didn't exactly fill me up similar to the other locations. read more

Wanted Pho...Needed Pho...trapped between a rock (Kitchener) and a hard place (Stratford) - all those who live in the area Don't Be Hate'n the intro! Hunger panic is no joke! LOL! As you get closer to the Waterloo/Kitchener turn off, you need to decide. Ride the 8 to Waterloo or turn south to Kitchener or you can just get off before at Fischer Hallman Road and try your luck at the many restaurants off the highway. There is Greek, Korean/Japanese, tons of fast food, and Pho. I decided to try Pho Dau Bo to compare it to Pho Bistro in Kitchener. The place is in the strip mall on the north east corner of the busy intersection. Make sure if you are going south, go straight through the intersection to get there - or else you will have to make an awkward U-turn/opt to go into another mall and make U's. Lots of parking as expected in the burbs. The place was busy for dinner and I must say, Pho has become an international delight as so many different cultures are represented at this place. As customary, my first order is their rare beef pho, or a variant, and the egg roll. I found the egg roll acceptable, as well as, the noodle in the pho. What I didn't enjoy as much is the broth. I found it lacking deep flavours that comes from developing a good base and not just throwing MSG at it. I had the rare beef and brisket (at least that is what I ordered) - somehow I got tendons and lots of it, not my favourite. This place is one of many Pho Dau Bo franchise (you know, the one with the laughing cow) and some are great and some not so. This one approaches the latter. Is this a return place? Well, if you don't want to drive ALLLL the way back to the GTA, I guess it would be - or I can drive a bit further into town and go to Pho Bistro. We have eaten here many times. Was one of my wife's favourite spots when she still lived here. That was a long time ago. And while I was hesitant to believe her, so far after about three in house visits and one takeout, it is now one of our favourite spots. Would I drive out here from Toronto just to eat? Likely no, but it is very good. The spring rolls. The fresh rolls, pho, bun. All are really very good. If you ever end up here, just do it. Prices are pretty decent. Service is great. And the atmosphere is pretty basic but clean and pleasant. Look. I'm not going to judge your reasons for being in KItchner, but I may judge you if you spend any amount of time in Kitchener and don't make it in to Pho Dau Bo. read more

We went here since my brother comes here often. The place was decent and clean. It Was not crowded when we came for an early dinner. They have varieties of Pho and other appetizers. I love pho.. So I ordered a large size Pho with beef, beef tripe and tendons. I couldn't find the tendons tho, it was just a very tiny portion but the soup itself is a lot. We also ordered chicken satay but the satay didn't arrive until we were done with dinner. No one came to ask if we needs water but they gave hot tea.. But who will drink hot tea with a hot large soup? I tried to get a bite but it wasn't impressive , the chicken was do dry, the chicken was cut into big slices..satay was just a so - so. The staff? I don't know if they were overwhelmed on that day but not as friendly as I thought. read more

Came here on a quiet Sunday afternoon. This is the second location; the other one is in the heart of downtown Kitchener. The Fischer Hallman location is smaller, cleaner and more updated. I tried a vegetarian curry and it was super tasty. Not sure what they used but it was very flavourful. The mango slush was great too. The service was wonderful and welcoming and it looked like there are a lot of regulars here (small families, couples). My only issue was the bad music. Eventually someone complained about how loud it was and they turned it down. But hey, they're willing to listen to their customers! Hope to come back and try other vegetarian/vegan dishes. read more

Been here probably over 15 times and will continue to visit. It's a go to pho comfort food place for me. The pho is great, simple, and does all the small things perfectly. The broth is rich and everything tastes fresh. The Vietnamese coffee is also extremely delicious and a must have! Another recommend is the fried tofu appetizer, silky tofu with a crispy outer layer; so good! Overall this place is great if you're looking for some great food out that doesn't feel too heavy and over done. Coming here tastes like coming home, except it never disappoints! read more

There are a couple of Vietnamese dishes that I've liked, in the past, but I've usually ordered them when dining with friends, and I can never seem to find them on subsequent visits. As a result, my experiences vary widely. This Pho Dau Bo is in a newish plaza, and the restaurant itself is clearly also quite new. The decor is pleasant and modern, but not otherwise mention-worthy. One tip: if you're going there in the winter, it can be a bit chilly, especially at the tables near the door. I'd recommend the inner row of tables instead. The food was decent--I had a bowl with a skewer of meatballs, a spring roll and "vermicelli" (rice noodles that are thinner than the usual, udon-like ones, but aren't really as thin as vermicelli). Pretty good, I guess. The meatballs were fine--a little dry. They had a unique flavour to them, but it wasn't strong enough for my tastes, so I dipped them in various sauces for a bit more flavour. The spring roll was tasty--I quite liked that! The vermicelli was kind of bland--it didn't come already tossed in a sauce or anything, so I added to it, from the sauces on the table and the small bowl of sauce they gave me, which they said I was supposed to add to the noodles. It wasn't a new favourite, but it wasn't horrible, either. I'll keep hunting on future visits to Vietnamese restaurants, I think. My companion had Pad Thai, and he liked it well enough, though he did say that the Pad Thai taste aesthetic that Vietnamese restaurants pursue seems to be quite different from what he's had at Thai restaurants (though there's also a fair bit of variance from one Pad Thai prep to another in general, and even among Thai restaurants). He prefers the style made at Thai restaurants, but this was pretty tasty as well. So it was a thumbs up from him. The restaurant was pretty busy, of a Sunday afternoon--not super big, but still well-frequented--when we came, there were maybe a couple of tables (in the drafty part of the restaurant) empty, and by the time we left, it was full. Not a table to spare. So, it may be that this is a local favourite, and I just have yet to find *the* dish that will make me want to keep coming back for more! I don't have kids, but there were quite a few kids there, with their families, and they seemed fairly kid friendly. Or maybe the kids were just very well-behaved. Either way, the young'uns seemed happy enough the time I was there. I don't know about booster seats etc., though, as all these kids were old enough not to need them, I think. read more

Sat down with my husband. Greeted by nice lady with hot tea at the table. We ordered spring rolls, green curry and chicken with rice. I am giving this a two star based on service and food. My green curry came to the table first. The carrots and eggplant were very over cooked, I can only assume they have it in a large pot in the back which is why it was served TEN MINUTES before the spring rolls and my husbands dinner arrived. I was honestly done prior the rest if the meal arriving. The taste was good, but again it felt pre-cooked which really took away from it. Service was really lacking. No one came around to offer us water, when my order came it was just placed down and then a fork thrown on the table. When the rest of the meal arrived it was hot pipping and delicious. The spring rolls were nice, the chicken moist and tasty. We would go again to give a second try, but would not order the curry again! read more

that's for the food though a 4 for its impressive reach--10 locations! Always gives props when a franchise branches out like this. Ordered their special: a bit of everything--beef, flank, beef balls, and the usual garnishes. But the soup is where it's at; good but not overwhelmingly to make u go back again anytime soon. At least I'd trust this one over the typical hole-in-the-walls, as I'm a bit weary of how clean these places, or any resto for that matter can be. It's clean, well-lit, and plenty of seating. While my wife and I have enjoyed the food on a monthly basis for quite a while we will not be going back. On two occasions we received the wrong food order. I first time I conceded that I may have made a mistake ( but pretty sure I didn't) but I went back to exchange the food. This time I took with me a menu with the numbers of the dishes I wanted circled so I made no mistakes. I picked up the food in the afternoon to eat later that night. Around 8 pm when my wife opened her order she discovered it was it was not what she wanted. When I checked the order slips I found a number that was different than the one I order and circled on my sheet. I did not call until the next day as I did not want to deal with the problem when I was upset and being a senior I did not want to go out in the cold again that night. The next day when I did call and try to explain what happened it took me 15 minutes talking to 3 different people to finally get them to understand. Bottom line was "you no call last night not my problem", "I make business rules here", I don't need your business". Well I am sorry. I don't deal with businesses that follow normal Canadian customer service practices. The customer is "always right". read more

Nice place! Been here twice, and both times have been great. Not quite sure how their ordering system works though. The waitress brought us a paper slip to write our orders on, but when we had finished writing we weren't sure what to do with it. Do we bring it up? Does she come get it? So I brought it up because i figured why not. And then at the end we weren't sure if you're supposed to go up to get your receipt, or if she brings it to you, or what the deal was, so we went up and asked to pay and the guy looked super confused! So we told him our table number and it was all good. But definitely a very confusing experience! read more

My go-to takeout restaurant when Idon'tfeel like cooking. Their pho is one of the best ones I've had. My favourite meal from them is #448, which is the vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and spring rolls. The pad Thai is good but sometimes they overlook the chicken....which is probably more about my own taste preference because my husband said it was ok. Anyway, you don't come here for the ambience. You come here for the food. The price is really great for good food. read more

The 'Cha Gio' (spring roll) is top-notch, and so are the pho and vermicelli dishes. Take-out order is always fast and efficient. This location in Kitchener is convenient for employees and workers in and around the neighborhood. Price is quite cheap compared to others around. read more

How do I start .. An elderly woman came in with a medical dog. She was deny to eat at the restaurant by the manager. It's the law to allow medical dogs to enter any restaurant in Ontario . We even said she can sit with us with the dog . They try to escort her out . I was sicken by this action.. Our food came I can't even eat . I will never come back to this place . This was one of my favourite restaurants in town. We were actually regular customers, once a week at least. Last year we went in on the lunar new year, it was very busy. We placed our order (just two dishes that we always get). They brought us our tea and then that was it. Five other tables arrived after us, placed their orders and got their food. We never received our order or were told what was going on. We took a little break from them as I was very upset. Then we started going back, it still had very tasty food. Now tonight I was feeling sick and wanted some soup. I placed my order online to avoid being out in the public while I was sick. I went to pick it up and got there 5 minutes after the email said it would be ready. I paid for my order and even gave a 15% tip. They told me it would be a few more minutes. I waited off to the side. Two groups came in while I was waiting, placed their orders and waited like I did, but they actually got their food and left while I was still waiting. They ordered paid and got their food, while I had ordered way before they even entered the store. I asked for my money back. They paid me back the cost of the meal but not the tip I had given them. I am so upset by this. It was one of my favourites and it is obvious they do not care about loyalty. read more

The food is usually just ok here. Service is quick and if you stick to the noodles and soup dishes things are usually fine. Until one day I received pork balls on a skewer that looked like dried up prunes.....like when you microwave something for too long and it becomes a rubbery wrinkled mess. I couldn't believe they actually served this clearly distressed food to me. I was the only person in the restaurant at the time....dropping the ball on a busy day was not the problem. To add to the insult, the noodle bowl, which has usually warm vermicelli noodles, were completely cold, like it had just been taking out of the fridge. I had two bites of cold noodles, a bite of pork ball to confirm they tasted as bad as they looked, paid with no tip and left. If this is what they think is ok to serve to my face, I hate to think what shortcuts are going on behind the scenes. Won't be back...ever again.
