Stopped in today for a quick lunch before I went to work. I stayed away from this joint for a few months. The last time I was here, the service wasn't the best. But I rolled my dice today and took my chances and decided to head in. I sat myself. My server was handling a table but came to my table after. Dropped off a menu but this girl knew that she wanted. I did notice that they have size options for their pho now. To be honest, they are pricey compared to other joints. And their portions sizes do run smaller as well. I went with the large chicken pho today. Mannnnnn, the bowl that came out was massive! It was piping hot! The broth was clear. It was sprinkled with cilantro and onion. It looked like a delicious bowl of pho. The broth was savory and rich. The noodles were cooked perfectly! It still had softness to it will a slight bite. I added the basil, Sriracha and a little extra fish sauce. It was hard for me not to consume all the broth. The amount of noodles you get as a large here is a regular bowl at other joints. Today was the right amount I needed. This bowl was warm on my soul. The chicken was tender and not overly cooked. You get a good amount of chicken breast. Sriracha and hoisin sauce is the perfect dipping sauce for the chicken. Today's visit and my last visit was black and white. My server did a great job taking care of me today. The venue is also decorated for fall which was fun! I am stuffed to the brim. I enjoyed every bite of my bowl today. Now that it's getting colder, I will be seeing myself here quite often. Driving through Boise and stopped by this pho restaurant for a quick bite. The decor is modern and pleasant. And our server was responsive and courteous. We ordered a Pho Real Pho (pho with rare-steak, brisket, and meatballs) and a Bun Thit Nuong with pork (choice of meat grilled and served in a bowl of vermicelli and vegetables) to share. Food came out rather quickly. The Pho Real Pho came with just rare-steak. We told our waitress that the brisket and meatballs were missing. She brought us a bowl of brisket and meatballs rather quickly. Unfortunately, those were cold and seemed not totally thawed! The pho itself was fine, but nothing spectacular. The bun was fine and the grilled pork was quite tasty. Portion size was on the small side. For them to mess up on their signature dish like they did, it was not very good. I love pho and being from California I am glad to see there is more Asian restaurants opening. I came later in the evening. This is gonna be your fancier version of pho. What I love about pho is that I don't have to ask for siracha and hoisin sauce, they bring you out this small portion. The staff is young and nice but needs to be a bit more attentive, you can see them sitting on their phones a lot. I usually am a single diner and am pretty low maintenance but it's nice to be checked on. For a bowl of pho this place is pretty pricy but the broth was nice and clear and very flavorful. It's a small place and a little crowded, but the service is friendly and fast. It has an upbeat ambiance despite how busy it is, with just the right level of conversational noise. The menu has all the stuff you'd expect from a pho restaurant, and we were very glad they had plenty of vegan options. We got the vegetable pho and it was a huge amount of food for the price. I've ordered from here once and I keep trying to order again bc I loved it but the way they close from 4-6 each day REALLY hurts their business! I've tried to place an online order at least 10 times somewhere between four and six and always gone somewhere else. We have small kids so that's the time we eat. When this establishment first opened I was pretty excited because there's nothing like a slow cooked broth and beautifu,l healthy vegetables and rice noodles. The first time I visited I had the Pho and it was good. The broth was a bit surprising actually because I didn't seem to have a whole lot of depth of flavor considering how long they actually cook it as they state on their website. Having said that it was a heartwarming dish and I appreciated the effort. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the last two visits. Recently I had lunch there and when I walked in there was no one there at 1:00 in the afternoon. That's good for me since it was nice and quiet and the AC was cranking which was great since it was 100° outside! I ordered the Bun Thit Nuong. The vermicelli noodles were quite overcooked in my humble opinion and I got the shrimp which actually were grilled really nicely. I felt like they where as fresh as they could be for this being Boise. It came with a side of sweet sauce that seemed to have fish sauce in it which was very delicious. The only vegetable that I could find in the dish was sprouts and cucumber. It was a nice light refreshing pescatarian dish and I didn't mind it, but there wasn't a whole lot of flavor outside of the grilled shrimp that at a coat of seasoning on them , but it was nice enough. I also ordered some of the spring rolls. When I took my first bite it was great and it was crunchy and delicious and salty and flavorful. Once I swallowed my first bite I realized it tasted like it was frostbitten a bit. That was pretty disappointing. The other bit that was a little disappointing was finding out that the price points were not the same online as they were on the actual menu. They were a dollar or two more for each item that I was looking to buy for lunch and spending $15 to $18 on one dishe is quite a bit of money for Boise, but I guess not so much these days anymore. So the second time that I visited to have a quick lunch I decided to order the lemongrass beef. I decided against the beef and asked if they would replace it with shrimp and they were more than happy to do so for an extra $2. The taste of lemongrass was really nice and the menu mentions that it has bean sprouts and scallions in the dish. I didn't notice any scallions but I did notice some cucumber in there. Based on the photograph that I saw online it seemed to have carrots and peppers and cilantro and looked like there might have even been some broccoli or bok choy depicted in the photograph but I didn't see any vegetables at all. It was just white bean sprouts and some shrimp that seemed to be old. They were definitely not fresh and they had absolutely no body to them. When I bit into the shrimp they were mushy and had no sustenance. This dish was not what I was expecting. I also ordered club soda from the fountain and when I got back to my table I noticed it was a big bottle of pellegrino. I didn't want to pay extra for Pellegrino especially since I was paying almost $20 for a lunch dish. Just some soda water out of the fountain is what I requested with a slice of lemon. Anyway that's a small misunderstanding . I absolutely love Vietnamese food and I will try them again! There are a couple of other dishes that I'm very interested in trying so I will give them another chance of course! Maybe it was just a slow lunch and they didn't want to waste any food or something, I don't know! We don't really have a whole lot of choices for ethnic food in Boise so this is important that they keep it real! Pho Real! I think I would like to try one of their rice dishes of char-broiled beef and maybe the stir fry mix. The tofu crispy egg rolls and the pork and shrimp summer rolls look fantastic too! I think that will be what I go for next and hope that it's a little bit better than my last two experiences. I'm so sorry guys! I just think it's important with all the competition in town to be sure to give positive critical feedback if something isn't quite right so that they are aware and can fix it. I would like to give kudos to the wait staff. They were very friendly, very quick to come to the table and take my order, and right on top of it when I asked for a check! I'll preface this by saying I ordered crispy egg rolls and their classic Banh mi sandwich for lunch so I haven't tried the pho yet but it looked great as they brought out large steaming bowls for others. Pricey for lunch-- $28 including tip. Banh mi was average. Several small pieces of grilled pork that had zero flavor, accompanied by the usual (albeit sparse) toppings. The eggrolls (4 to the order) were crispy and delicious. The fish sauce served with the sandwich and the egg rolls was helpful in providing more taste to each dish. So it was unfortunate that the servers made a mistake and gave my crispy eggrolls to a previous takeout customer who had ordered the fresh (unfried) spring rolls, and then took off without knowing it. So, lunch took about 15 minutes longer than it should have, but I'll try Pho Real again and update the review when I have their Pho. read more

If you were hopeful for new and better Vietnamese food when reading local news that 208 Pho & Vegan at this location had been sold and Pho Real opened in it's place you will be disappointed to find roughly the same menu and food quality, although maybe a little less flavorful, now as then. The original owner passed it on to family members and the menu of half a dozen'ish each starters, pho dishes, com dishes and bun dishes is about the same and at similar price points of $8 to $9 for starters and $13 to $14 for the others. INSIDE: The interior has been cleaned up and seating rearranged. The service is friendly for dine in or take out. Those are good things. EATS: But the rest is lackluster. The absence of the "ahhh...some" aromas that might greet a diner at a Vietnamese food place from the simmering of pho stocks or the grilling of meat for com dishes or the fresh herbs used in bun meals is completely absent. And so, it turns out, were flavor and the herbs from our bun orders. Maybe a little Thai basil but other than that, nothing. (There is hoisin, soy and hot pepper paste on the table if you need to try to doctor a dish.) And when the two women who came in while we were waiting on our orders asked for no cilantro to be served with their meal the server said, in puzzled tone, that they didn't use cilantro in the kitchen. When the customer read to her from the menu that cilantro was part of the dish the server she had never noticed the menu description but it didn't matter since cilantro was not used. Nor any other herbs one might find in Vietnamese cooking it seems based on our meals. Also odd that the noodles in the bun dishes were lukewarm and not cool as is my experience elsewhere. We kept searching for flavor in what we were eating and finally left much of it uneaten. The pieces of cha gio (crispy egg roll) that were served with the bun were abundant in number and good quality, though, so there's that to add to the good list. And they have tasty Vietnamese coffee, although only iced. PARKING: In the strip mall lot. ACCESSIBILITY: A woman with disabilities who came in after us was with service dog and the server was cordial in accepting the need for the dog to be inside. The parking lot has no ADA compliant accessible parking on this side but there is one marked space (with striping on wrong side) and a make shift curb cut at far end of strip by the Boise CoOp Wine Shop. With the rearrangement of tables there are tables where a wheelchair user could sit. The loo is not accessible. BOTTOM LINE: If you're hungry and in the area you could do worse than to have a meal here, in particular at late lunch hour when little else is open. But if you're hankering for really good Vietnamese fare as destination, you can do better in Boise. Look, I'm out of the habit of writing reviews, but this was disappointing enough to actually make the effort. I can't decide if I'm madder that I spent more than $10 on the most lackluster sandwich I've ever eaten, or that this place is doing a disservice to banh mi and Vietnamese cuisine as a whole by selling this. It's missing classic banh mi ingredients. The ratio of ingredients is wrong. The quality of the ingredients was poor. It was expensive for a banh mi, and especially for the quality. Broth was good and well balanced with saltiness and sweetness. There are two sizes for $17/$19. You get a lot of broth and adequate amount of noodles for the 17 option but I would opt for the 19 option if you were really hungry. This is on a little steeper side for pho but I get it, everything costs a little more. The space was pretty small but nice and freshly updated with a nice patio. Service was great, food came out fast and server was nice and attentive. I saw the owner there at lunch working, I didn't talk to him but I appreciate it when I see them working hard. The cooks in the back looked like his mom and pop which is pretty awesome too. For the TV this place is worth a try. I would say I would come back but it's not my go to quite yet. read more

Just another average pho house. Nothing special . The condements that came with the pho was the greatest let-down. Why skimp on the sauces and bean sprouts ? $20 for pho with not enough meat. I wanted to like Pho Real. I love pho and I like the play on words. The location is very convenient too. I've been there three times now and I'm confident I have a good snapshot of the food and service. To start, the pho broth is extremely bland. There is no way around it. And there is barely any meat in it. On my second visit, they had one waiter. It took 10 minutes to even receive a menu and to be informed they were out of beef broth (2 hours before closing...) The next visit, same thing, one waiter during a busy lunch hour. It took 10 minutes to get handed a menu. Another 10 to get our waters. They were out of Vietnamese Coffee. Our spring rolls were bland, my friend found a long hair in his rice, and the pho was bland and almost meatless once again. When my friend pointed out the hair, the waiter offered to get him another order. 15 min later it had not arrived. When I asked the waiter about it, he said, yeah, so you want it to go? By then, we had no choice. So, my friend got to watch us eat with no food. The card reader was malfunctioning. I really dislike this restaurant. It's fairly expensive, $30 for spring rolls, pho, and a soda, the food is bland, and they are habitually understaffed. read more

4.75 - The pho was light and simple, reminded me very much of a Hanoi style pho. I wish they offered pickled onions to go with it instead of bean sprouts though, but that's my personal preference. This is a second time I ordered here once was a pickup another Uber and honestly I'm so disappointed. First plz separate the veggies from raw meat in another baggie for food safety and it's gets wilted especially if it takes over an hour to get delivered to me ridiculous two plz cook your noodles and place raw meat already in hot soup container. Also no idea if you guys are being cheap but I'm paying almost thirty bucks for small soup with barely any meat the least you can do is throw in the condiments since your food has zero flavor. My husband and I stumbled in to this place when we were visiting Boise. The atmosphere is great, very friendly and relaxed, it was clean and I felt comfortable. Our server Joey explained the options for me - Im a vegan, I had the veggie pho, it was really good. Joey did a great job making us feel comfortable and answering all our questions. I've been waiting to try this pho place and it was totally worth the wait! Plus the name is clever. :) We ordered two bowls of their P1 phos (Pho REAL Pho), the A2 (fresh spring rolls), and Cafe Vietnam (drip coffee). The spring rolls were exactly the taste I expected them to be - fresh and crunchy! And the pho broth seemed a little less salty which I greatly appreciated. They also included a moderate amount of noodles that were a finer grade and with more meat and veggies - so I didn't feel overly stuffed afterward. I was most excited about the coffee which was served in a Vietnamese filter (phin) that dripped into a glass of sweet condensed milk. The servers (who were also the owners) were kind enough to split it into 2 cups of ice for us. :) Overall the vibe of Pho Real was very chill, modern, and friendly. Quick update to my last review. Like I wrote before, PR is within walking distance of my job so I come here a few times a year to eat lunch with my dad. And while I've historically been negative, I believe in being fair: the pho has improved in the past 6 months. Broth is more flavorful (if still on the light side) and the meat cuts are now readily identifiable. Noodles were on the overcooked side and stuck together, an indication that the soup probably sat for a while before the waiter picked it up... and in truth I did see another party sit down 15min after us and got served before us, so I'm thinking the waiter was disorganized but polite enough-- maybe new at his job. Cha gio are still unimpressive but also better than they were-- not as mushy on the inside. Good to see some improvement and I'm hoping that trend continues. One suggestion would be to keep the sauces in their bottles on the table (like most pho restaurants do), rather than serving individual portions in little dishes. The waiter forgot them for us and other diners and had to run around getting them for everyone and really it's just another thing to track, more dishes to clean, and if the diner doesn't use the entire portion, a bunch of sauce goes to waste. Of course there's probably a reason for this strategy that I don't know about... so take it or leave it. And as long as we're talking about waste, I wonder if all pho restaurants would save some money if they customized the veggies too-- some people might not eat all the lime, basil, bean sprouts, and jalapeno.
