I have found that during COVID to be frank, the restaurant food has been terrible. They are hemorrhaging money and as such have to decrease input costs and quality suffers. With this in mind we had low expectations that were far surpassed. We ordered garlic beef noodles x 2 and summer rolls and wow. So good. I stopped in here for an early dinner on a Sunday night because I was in the area. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall off Federal Hwy, so there ain't much of a "scene" if that's important to you. My husband and I split the Shaken Beef, which was tender and flavorful. I would highly recommend this dish! I had the vegetarian pho and he had the chicken pho. The broth in both was very tasty with just a slight hint of spice, and they each were served with lots of green onions. The side plate came with basil, bean sprouts, lemons, and sliced jalapeños, which are all nice additions. Service was slow, especially considering nobody was there. If you're looking for good Vietnamese food at a reasonable price, this is definitely worth checking out. read more

I I did to her attention she didn't look happy She the asked me if I wanted a bowl to go . I told this unfriendly server No I'd like it for here. She didn't seem happy . Had a great experience today at Pho Ocean. Happy Pancake on the Appetizer crepe was really good, fresh and crisy. Eggrolls yum . I had a seafood dish in a noodle nest and my husband had chicken, pineapple and rice both were so good. Lots of great flavor. We were on our way to Pho Lavie and realized they had changed to Pho Ocean. We were waiting for a bit after being seated, but then the kids (cavalry) arrived, and there was a lot more help with the service. There is a big difference from how it used to be when we would have to wait forever for service. The food is still good and we had a variety of appetizers, Pho and entrees which were all delicious and everyone enjoyed them. Wow! Everything we ordered was delicious. I got the lemongrass beef with garlic noodles... amazing. My husband loved the pork banh mi. All of the meat was perfectly tender and flavorful. The veggies on the banh mi sandwich were fresh and crunchy. The calamari was super good as well. We ate in the dining area and there was only one other table that was spaced far away from us. This place was recommended to us by my husband's coworker's wife, and we were driving by so I decided to call in an order and pick up. It was hard to tell if I was able to see the entire menu on yelp, so I called and asked if they had vermicelli noodles (my go-to for Vietnamese take-out. Pho if I eat in) with grilled shrimp. They do have vermicelli with pork and shrimp, but I didn't want pork. The nice man on the phone had mentioned they have egg rolls and pork over the vermicelli too, so I asked if they could do shrimp and egg rolls. No problem, didn't even charge me extra. When I picked up on Sunday night, the restaurant had maybe five parties dining in. They were mostly Asian and the steaming pho looked really good. Also it was very quiet inside, which took me by surprise. They have a bar area as well. The vermicelli with grilled shrimp and egg rolls were excellent. I would definitely come by again. The restaurant is in the Beall's outlet center on the corner of sample and federal highway. It's located behind the Dunkin' Donuts. If you go to Beall's and continue following the same building around the corner to the south, you will see it a few doors down, parallel to Federal Hwy/US1. We were warmly greeted. And sat by the window. We started browsing through the menu. She brought us a basket of airy shrimp chips -- these things are addictive! We ordered a summer roll to start but without pork. It came fairly fast with two sauces -- the usual peanut dipping sauce, plus a small dish of the "fish" sauce. Each roll was cut in half. For a main dish, my girlfriend ordered the vegetarian pho with tofu. I chose the Vietnamese crepe appetizer. Her pho was a lot of noodles topped with large cubes of tofu and fresh vegetables. The side plate had lettuce, bean sprouts, jalapeños and mint leaves to add into the soup. My friend had fun adding dollops of the various hot sauces. My crepe came with small dish of romaine lettuce leaves and some mint sprigs. You're supposed to make wraps and dip these in the "sauce". I prefer to eat it with some soy sauce or hoisin sauce added, breaking off a small bit each time. It was a nice surprise to find out they were offering a discount in honor of their grand opening! Yes...until 11/20/17 (which we read on the sign as we were leaving). The positive...we found the food to be fresh and very tasty. Great ingredients made for a light and flavorful meal. The negative...the family is very hard-working but is WOEFULLY understaffed. They are frantic running around the restaurant. Basic service was lacking. We had to walk to the front of the restaurant to pay as there was no way of getting the check when we were ready to go. I've been going here since 2019 and I use to love this place when they had servers. It's now serviced by the husband and wife. The Husband is very nice will speak but the wife is generally the sever. This woman does NOT like black people. she is RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, AWFUL! her attitude towards black people is very obvious...(just watch and listen) I would come during lunch and they both are usually eating themselves (which is not a problem) the husband would speak and tell you to sit anywhere. The wife will have you wait 10-15 min until she's done eating and would often clean all the dirty tables before taking my order. (Now I am often alone and order the same thing every time) I've watched and heard the way she speaks to black people as well as others when I say she doesn't like black people at all, I mean it! She is absolutely disgusted to have to serve us! I use to be a good tipper but, now it reflects her HORRIBLE service. To say I've tolerated this women waaay too long is an understatement! I stopped going for about 6months then went back with a friend to see if it was just me... but, in her true fashion she was still the worst restaurant owner/server I have ever seen in my entire life! (50+ years) And don't think it's just black people the only people she will smile and be totally respectful too is Asian people in general. Let me start off with, the place is nothing to look at, from the outside and a bit dated from the inside, but I called to eat the food not the wall coverings. We started with Summer rolls that was served with peanut sauce. It was prepared perfectly and the peanut sauce was like eating liquid peanut butter. We each had our own entree My wife had the #30 noodles in garlic sauce with chicken and lemongrass. I tasted it and was jealous. My friend and I had the Pho which is Soup with meat. I had roasted pork and my friend had chicken. It has a side of jalapenos and bean sprouts and cilantro which I appreciated being on the side. Obsessed with the beef pho/ Their siracha that is on the table is mixed in with red pepper flakes and it makes the pho so delicious! I enjoy going for lunch once to twice a week. They have an extensive menu but I have only tried the pho. Like most pho the serving is larger. The parking isn't ideal but for lunch there is usually a spot available. Average Vietnamese place nothing too special here. Good solid soup but nothing to write home about. They only let you order off the menu and won't customize. I asked for a special hue spicy broth and they said they did not have that. The meat was good they were generous on the vegetables. I think there are better choices in Broward County but this is probably the best choice in pompano. Wanting to try out a new Vietnamese Restaurant while we were in the area we came across Pho Lavie which happened to be a neat little joint in a strip plaza off Federal Highway! On entering we were warmly welcomed by Michael who was our server as well as the owner? We were seated immediately and being early in the evening it was not too crowded either. The place was well lit and very clean and the decor was nice. The menu was interesting with a few items that we don't usually see. Our meal consisted of 3 appetizers which included the Shrimp Roll, Beef Roll and a Vietnamese Shrimp crepe that was amazing. Aunt Rose had the Steamed Fish with Mushrooms and Scallions in a Soya Sauce which was Deelish! The GF had Noodles with Salt Baked Shrimp which was very good and I had my old trusty Beef Pho which was very tasty. All in all I have to agree with my fellow YELPERS that this was a good choice! Our local goto for Pho. Their recipe for the broth is hands down the best I've ever had (and I get pho for lunch three or four times a month - sadly outside of the Pho Lavie service area). The greens and other extras are always fresh and pungent. The bean sprouts are crispy. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you might have (I had been wondering what one green leaf herb was for a while, and finally asked; I left knowing more about the things to add to pho than I ever thought possible). I saw over 4 stars and figured the food would be at least pretty good if not outstanding, it was anything but... we ordered #2 the summer rolls: weird amount of lettuce which made the roll super big and the pork was a chunk of fatty pork, the roll was tasteless and the peanut sauce was more like peanut butter, too thick. #4 Vietnamese crepe: this was also sort of tasteless and very greasy. #45 flat noodle: I asked for beef and chicken, repeated it at least 3 times and the waiter even came back to the table to confirm our order before going into the kitchen and yet, no chicken. This dish would have been okay except that it was soo greasy, I'm on alka-seltzer as I write this review... my gf ordered #17 grilled pork pho (meat on side) she said it was very strange tasting, very gamey, not at all light and clean tasting like most pho she's had at countless Vietnamese restaurants we've eaten at around the country- we gave our sincerest apologies about sending the pho back and shared my dish. Simple but clean restaurant serving delicious Vietnamese food. My friends invited me to meet them there today for lunch. I ordered vegetarian crepes with fried tofu and vegetables. It came with a large portion of lettuce leaves and fish sauce. It was so delicious. My friends commented to me that I rarely finish a dish, but this time I did.....except for all the extra greens. This restaurant scammed me. I ordered ahead based on their online menu and prices. Their website prices are significantly lower than their actual prices. I ordered a family pho (advertised as $18.95, charged $25.45) and Grilled Pork Egg Rolls (advertised $13.95, charged $17.95). When I brought it up they just said the prices had changed and wouldn't price match what was on the website. Dishonest and unacceptable. When I got home, the food was all cold as well. We just arrived in town and was pretty tired from flight and A/C at our AirBNB was not working so figured was a good time to go and sit down to eat and I am so glad we stopped by Pho Lavie, soon to be Pho Ocean. Great friendly service and it looks like a family ran business which gave it a more homely feeling. I am planning to bring my family back a couple more times before we head back home. I really used to love this place. They have a great Pho but the service recently has been horrible...like bottom of the barrel horrible! The waitress is rude and has no customer service skills whatsoever. It's the same lady every time, she wears oversized black crocs and never smiles. If you've been there, you'll know exactly who I'm talking about. During one visit, I asked for a glass of water three times for her to tell me that I needed to wait! Granted, there's only 3 other guests in the whole restaurant. Wait for what? On my last visit, I again asked for a GLASS of water. She AGAIN does not bring it to me so when my food comes, I ask her AGAIN! This time she brings me a bottle and I nicely apologize for the miscommunication and express to her that I just wanted tap so she grabs the bottle and doesn't come back. I had to ask her AGAIN for a glass of water. I don't know what it is with this lady and giving out water to her guests but clearly it's an inconvenience to her. Same situation, two different visits. Pho Lavie is our favorite spot for birthday dinners! There are many pho places opening up in Coral Springs & Boynton, but I was so happy when Pho Lavie opened up in Pompano! For my birthday, i reserved a table for about 20 people. The whole restaurant is pretty small, so I was surprised when they rearranged the entire middle section of small tables just to fit 20 people. The next group of about 10 people with no reservations had to wait until the other tables were full to sit, but even they had to be split up. So, reservations are always recommended if you want to come on a weekend with more than 5 people just so you aren't kept waiting for too long. Service was okay, it was a busy day and only two people were waiting tables so I understood. However, orders kind of got confused and we had to repeatedly ask for spoon and remind them of our side orders. The whole menu is delicious, but the portions are small to the point where I always order a side of extra noodles. They give you a reasonable amount of meat, but Pho Boca gives you way more amounts of pho & meat (a little more expensive of course). The Bun Bu Hue here looks good but that's after you add all your spices. When I ordered the Bun Bo Hue it didn't come with the spices and coloring that you usually get in other places. It looked bland, which was surprising. The meats they have is really good though and usually other places don't include them in the bowl. It was a fatty bone of meat. However, always get a side of noodles when you order it and make sure it's right. Sometimes, the workers think you have pho and give you the wrong side of noodles. read more
