We were looking for some healthier dinner options in the O'Hare area due to being around for a conference. When we saw pho and brewery in the same sentence, we had to go! It's such a great concept because pho and beer go so well together. There's free street parking, and the restaurant is well-lit and easy to find. Our group had some vegans, so safe to say their vegetarian pho was approved by the vegans. The broth had strong mushroom flavor, but they loved that there were tons of veggies and huge portions. I enjoyed the beef tendon pho, and the broth was SO flavorful and tasty. The noodles were cooked to perfection. The ambiance could do with some more aesthetic shifts. It seems like the bar part is disjointed from the kitchen and dining area. The seating area is great for groups and we saw some young kids there too, soft and cushy seating options. There was only one server running the entire joint. And we saw one chef (Vietnamese yay authenticity) making the food. Management needs to hire more staff! Pho is great. Got some beers along with Vietnamese food at this brewery. It seems like a pretty strange place for it. Pho No. 1 is one of the more unique. Actually seems more like a restaurant that happens to make a few beers along with the food. They of course have pho so pair the cold suds with hot soups. Finding this place takes some time to get here. It's certainly in a far out area of the city where there's not a lot. This is more like a residential area with a few small businesses around so it's for sure a quieter area it seems. A nice experience for just enjoying company. The place is big enough for a group but not too many though. It's about $5 for a pint. Some of the best prices for a craft brewery it seems. Best one we had was the Pale Ale. It's about $13 for an entree. These of course include pho. For sure get that because it's the specialty they make here. I got Spicy Tofu With Lemongrass And Pepper. Decided to try another Vietnamese restaurant I saw this a few times when I get my spring water by Schiller woods. It's a little overpricey but it's actually very good but there's some differences than how they make certain dishes that are traditional. Instead of using your traditional tenderloin and meatballs for pho they have New York strip they have ribeye and they even have filet mignon I had the rib eye which to me did not taste any different than a traditional beef flankher beef tendon pho. It was fresh like most Vietnamese make their pho soup. I ordered a cane sugar drink which was decently good it wasn't a wow kind of good we're had a unique taste that was appealing. As for their spring rolls with shrimp it was a unique way they wrapped it it was a bit looser and they didn't use as much cilantro a lot more lettuce but tasted fresh a different version of it. Ambience is very modern but it's more of like a bar the way they're trying to display their restaurant service was actually pretty friendly and quick the pho came really quick despite ordering spring roses and appetizer. Otherwise a little pricey but I guess worth it I would come probably every now and then there's not too many Vietnamese restaurants until now on this side of Chicago another one was in Schiller Park I was going to go to called broccoli. read more

A surprising and delightful Vietnamese restaurant and brewery is located in the near northwest side of Chicago. An unassuming lime green store front, I stopped here for lunch and ordered their seafood pho. The broth was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The pho was chocked full of shrimp and squid. They also have an on-site brewery if you wish to enjoy a house brewed beer with or without a meal. It's an odd combination, but Pho No. 1 does serve a pretty authentic Vietnamese pho that at a minimum shouldn't be missed. read more

My friends and I came here for the first time a few weeks ago, and we all enjoyed our experience! From the outside, Pho No. 1 Brewing doesn't stand out much. Aside from the green exterior wall, it's pretty unassuming, and I wasn't expecting much when we walked through the doors. However, as soon as we stepped inside, my thoughts changed. The space is modern, bright, and inviting with a clean, trendy feel. We felt comfortable right away. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. For dinner, I ordered the crab rangoons ($6.50 for 5), which were golden and crispy with a flavorful filling. They were a little crispier than my ideal and were a bit light on the filling, but still enjoyable overall. I also had the beef fried rice ($15.50), which was delicious because the ingredients tasted fresh and the flavors were well-balanced. It's definitely something I'd come back for. My friends both ordered the filet mignon beef pho ($17.50) and said it was good, as well; however, I didn't try it so I cannot comment on that, but I did notice that the bowls had so much green in them and not as much noodles Service-wise, our server was friendly and laid-back. She brought our food out quickly and was on top of refilling our waters without us having to ask. One con of this place is that it's in a residential area on a busy street and houses, so parking can be a pain in the butt. We were lucky and were able to find a spot right next to the building, but I can imagine that it can be difficult to park during peak times. Many of the side streets around here are permit parking, so you'd have to try to park on Belmont. All in all, Pho No. 1 Brewing is worth checking out! read more

Since we were in the area (we don't come this way often), we decided to stop at Pho. A brewery that serves Vietnamese food sounds intriguing. Since the brewery is on the corner by residential homes, we had to park up the street and wall down. I ordered the pear cider and orange chicken with white rice. The pear cider has an odd flavor. It wasn't quite "pear." The orange chicken was alright. It could have used more tanginess in the sauce. There were a couple pieces that were slightly cold. Service was okay, too. Stumbled upon this brewery and Vietnamese restaurant while running errands. The interior was super nice and well lit, welcoming on so many different levels. I opted to try their house brewed beers and honestly was impressed at the capacity they had for such a local venue. They had more house brewed options than quite a few "well known" breweries here in the city. The Chicken Pho is delicious, just like at the original location on Lawrence Ave. The broth in sweet and has a hint of Cinnamon and comes to your table piping hot. There are ample chunks of Chicken that are tender and flavorful. The Spring rolls are a bit loose, but tasty. The accompanying sauce had the perfect mixture of peanut butter and Hoisin was spot on. My first time here after it being on my radar for quite some time. Pho was very good as I had the special combo which has meatball, tendon, tripe and other goodies. I found it super flavorful as it should be. Shrimp spring rolls were very good and so was the dipping sauce. Teriyaki sticks were very well marinated and grilled. I tried two different beers and found them very pleasant and not a typical brew. Mulberry wheat beer was super subtle on the berry, not sweet, not heavy on wheat and had a nice hop kick to it. Not a typical berry wheat beer as one would expect which is a really good thing. I also had the porter which was not a typical porter too. It drank more like a stout than a porter and had a smoothness to it. I will definitely be back to try some other brews and explore the Pho a little bit more. read more

You can't miss Pho No. 1 with its bright green exterior! We were seeking out a Vietnamese place that was sort of near us, and Pho No. 1 came up in our search. I was also excited to try the beers. We really enjoyed every beer we got. I ordered the Pineapple IPA, which had the perfect amount of hops with pineapple flavor. We loved the Coconut Imperial Stout as well. The Passionfruit Wheat was also a great option. We ordered the Tofu Spring Rolls to share. Unfortunately, the rice paper was pretty chewy and the ingredients were nothing too special. The sauce was good. We also ordered the Passionfruit Wings. They did not taste very passionfruit-y but the wings were excellent. It was perfectly fried while not drying out the chicken. The pickled vegetables that came with it were really refreshing. I ordered the Seafood Noodle Soup as my entree. The broth was excellent. I've past by this location so many times and my sister and I finally went in to give it a try. When we first walked in , there was no one there to seat us for a good 3 minutes. We started coughing and making noises to get someone to come seat us. Right away, our server seemed very annoyed and was pretty rude to us. She just seemed like she hated her job honestly. Looking at the menu, the prices were insanely high in comparisons to other pho places that are in the city. We ordered: Crab Rangoon : 8/10 Probably the best thing we had. Shrimp "fresh" Spring Roll: 3/10 The lettuce was brown, the shrimp was beyond bland and a bit rubbery. There was also no mint which is very traditional of a spring roll. I've made these at home many time and I wish I ordered something else because these were below average. Shrimp Fried Rice: 5/10 Average and the amount of pepper added just doesn't make sense. It overpowers the taste of the rice. Sliced Beef Pho: 5/10 The broth was oddly sweet and all the beef fat hadn't been removed so it was all on the top of my bowl. When I eat pho, I'm looking for a clear and flavorful broth. The beef fat and sweet broth ruined the whole bowl for me. Ambiance: it was really cold in there and they had the fans on high. I asked the waitress to turn off the fans and her attitude was really killing the entire experience. Im not sure if she was having a bad day or what but I was also having a bad day and my sister took my out to eat pho and help me feel better. This place is bright green on the exterior but don't let that fool you as it is super cute and well decorated on the inside. It was bright, clean, and very welcoming. The staff was quick and professional. The food was absolutely wonderful. We love Pho and this is our go to place here in the area. We have an 11 year old that just eats meatballs and noodles and his soup was made to order with no issues. All the bowls were full and had just enough room to add veggies. Everything was piping hot as it should be. The crab rangoon's were also really yummy but we dug in before I could get a picture. We always usually order take out from here but we will probably visit a lot more often to eat in now! The beer selection was good for a local brewery and we will be visiting again! Had a craving for pho and this place was not too far from where I live. What drew me there was the bar and craft beers. I ordered their special combo beef pho, the pho is actually legit. In my opinion, better than the ones from the pho places around that area. I ordered a flight which consisted of a Lager, IPA, Pilsner, and a Stout. Had a craving for Pho. It was just okay, and barely. It came to the table with a lot of black pepper already on top as a finish. This was the first time I had ever seen any Vietnamese restaurant do this. I DID NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL as the black pepper overpowered the whole meal! I can't really share my thoughts on the flavors, but it was peppery. Also, the soup is too fatty. As the bowl cools during the meal, you'll start to notice a thin layer of fat coagulating on the roof of your mouth and lips.
