So you're faced with a conundrum, do you eat in Detroit (that's a no brainer) or, do you put the pedal to the metal and fly over the Ambassador bridge - just to say, "Yeah, we're in Canada!" And that's what always ends up happening, and in Windsor, the food choices are limited so Pho Nguyen Hoang has been the go to. The Bahn mi sandwich with beef isn't bad, the bread could be a little toastier, the salad and pho are also good choices. Service is usually handled by one server. Over the years, I've had their Bun (noodle) dishes with protein and those have been satisfying. The pho has been solid too. Street pahking eh, I parked right up front. Adding this to my go-to Pho restaurants when I'm in Windsor. Happen to see this restaurant on my Google search for Pho (wasn't really random... I typed in Pho). Gave it a try and enjoyed my time here. To start, the food was really good with good portion dishes. Spring rolls were crispy. The Pho Dac Biet was pretty standard, but had lots of meat. The vermicelli was big for a small size. The seafood noodle was good but only downside is the shrimp was small. Finally the Pad Thai, it's not a one-person dish. So bring your family. The pad thai seemed to have more bean sprouts than noodles. These are the the reasons why I took off one star. For the location, it's conveniently located with ample parking located at the back. The restaurant is very spacious. There's a lot of space that can be filled with more seats and tables. But I prefer to have social distancing. Finally the service, they are very quick. We spilled some tea and then came with a towel to wipe it right away. Only downside was the food took longer than I expected compared to other Pho place. Which is probably a good thing, means they're cooking the food and not something that's sitting there all day waiting to be served. My wife and I are back in Windsor, Ontario again for the first time in two years (thanks, COVID). As soon as we crossed the border this afternoon, we 1) checked into our hotel; and 2) immediately visited Pho Nguyen Hoang for dinner. Why do we always make this our first food stop in Canada? Because it stands out among the fairly competitive pho market here; it's our very favorite. Fresh, excellent pho ingredients and soup, a great coffee / juice / smoothie menu, quick service, and -- nice bonus -- authentic hole in the wall vibes. If you get a craving for Vietnamese food and happen to be in Windsor Ontario (sorry in advance) but you are in luck as far as the food goes!! This is hands down the best in Windsor and maybe even in the whole Windsor/Detroit area. The food is always fresh home style cooking. It's fast. The servers are incredible, quick and kind. They will permit special orders where they can. I can't speak on the pho because that's not my thing. I love the bun, and other traditional Vietnamese dishes. The bon mi app is good but I do wish they would add pate, and pickled carrots. I highly recommend this place. Delicious, authentic, inexpensive, quick..... I can't suggest any improvement except maybe cleaning the bathrooms more often. The vintage floor tile is killer tho! read more

After a night of drinks at Ceasars with my cousins, we had planned with the rest of our family to have brunch the next day. But one of my cousins had a hangover and mentioned to have Pho instead. CASH ONLY Service: I had called in to see if they can accomodate a party of 20 people (last minute). The guy was more the happy to take care of us. Even called to confirm if we were still coming. When we came in the table was set. only about 2 other small tables were being served; it was perfect, not busy, and we can talk amongst one another. We were quickly seated and found it odd that we had to write our own order down for the waiter. Which seemed that he was the only one there besides the cooks in the back. Service was great though for only 1 waiter with a last minute party. Food: ordered medium sized Pho with rare steak & side of meatballs. -pho comes in 3 sizes (the medium seemed like a small) -the broth here has a sweeter taste compared to others places. The texture of the noodles were awesome. Portion of the meat was little. Meatballs were decent. Small portion as well for a side. Same goes with the noodles. I had more broth left over than noodles. My fiancee ordered the fried porkchop over rice. That was pretty good (a must try) Tender chops seasoned lightly with an egg on the side and broth. Fresh spring rolls were ordered to but no peanut dipping sauce. I didn't get to try the fried egg rolls since everyone on the opposite end of the table ate it all. Overall: the Pho here was okay. If you like the sweeter taste of broth this is your place. Portions are limited with pho. The porkchop over rice was a hit. What gives this place 4 stars is the service. There is not much to this place, it is very simple in decor with 2 waitresses who do an excellent job in turning the table around. The food was very authentic and flavorful and not every dish was spicy if you wanted more heat a sriracha bottle is at every table. You had your choice of small, large or x-large for the pho or vermicelli dishes. We stared with the vegetable spring rolls which came with lettuce some pickle carrots and radishes and a flavorful dipping sauce . My wife had the large vegetable pho and I the vermicelli grilled pork and shrimp with crushed peanuts. There was no sauce for my dish but adding some sriracha and soy sauce, gave it some zip. I come to this restaurant everytime we go to Windsor, this is a family restaurant, the service is always friendly and accommodating. We always get the bun (dry vermicelli) and it's probably one of the best, they put many toppings, including basil and mint. Many of the Toronto Vietnamese restaurants are not authentic enough to have these ingredients. Recently saw some people order some banh mi, so decided to try it. I have tried both the BBQ pork banh mi and assorted meat, and both are really good. The bread is warm, and slightly crispy. Very fresh and not too hard. The drip coffee is strong, and they give you a thermos of hot water to continue the slow drip. Must try if you're in the area! read more

Everyone's said it, but let's give it a go. Yes, half the reason we drove all the way up to Canada in the dead of winter was to try this place out. So many good reviews, I didn't know what else to do! You can't go wrong with the pho, but I have these cravings for bun bo Hue that I can't ignore, so I ordered that instead. (It's okay, the other six people in our party got pho.) Hands down, everything I ever wanted BBH to be! Lemongrass zing, spicy broth (enough for your eyes and nose to water but still keep your taste buds intact), tender meats including the elusive cha lua, HUGE portions (for reasonable prices) - and an XL option for those hungry tummies. This family restaurant makes their food with TLC and were very accommodating for our large group. Wish I could try everything on that monstrous menu, but parting is such sweet sorrow... Pho Nguyen Hoang quite simply has the best pho in Windsor, for multiple reasons. The broth is what they should truly be proud of. It's a clear, light broth that is still somehow so flavourful. Additionally, it's not very salty at all, which can often be the case. Just a perfectly balanced, delicious broth. It's not fatty or greasy, which is another accomplishment because the beef they use does have a little bit more fat than usual. That meat, though, is delicious. I had pho no. 45 which includes rare beef, beef balls, beef tendon, and tripe, the latter being my personal favourite. Tendon is something new for me. It's basically pure fat, cartilage, with a few tiny but entirely edible bones. It's deliciously fatty with a slight crunch. The accompaniments are slightly different from, say Pho Xic Lo, (which is also very good). You get limes, not lemons, and a few very hot peppers. Throwing both into your broth, with the usual basil and sprouts, is the best decision you can make. Service and prices at Pho Nguyen Hoang are ideal. The service is lightning fast and friendly, and for what you pay, the portions are enormous. I had the large pho and it was, well, large. If I'm starving and only have twelve dollars to spend, I'd spring for the extra large any day. It's a rare but amazing nexus of quality and quantity and I'd recommend it to purists and first-timers alike. And who would turn down a watermelon lollipop at the end? Happy Chinese New Year, (which the Vietnamese celebrate, too). read more

I have to give this place 5 stars because the food is absolutely delicious and it's decently priced. I get the seafood pho usually a large or extra large and it goes between $10-$12 but they give you shrimp, imitation crab, and squid. It always fills me up and I am slowly craving the pho here more and more that I'm calling to place an order for pick up. I am in love with their pork and shrimp goi cuon (what you'd call a summer roll/Vietnamese spring roll) and their peanut sauce is so bomb. By recommendation from a friend, I also ordered bun bo hue which to me seemed like a mix between beef pho and laksa. I do prefer pho over it but the bun bo hue was tasty. Cash only, no wi-fi, and parking can be a little iffy but it's totally worth it to come here. I wish they stayed opened till like 3AM or something for late night pho runs :'( read more

Delicious! I order the Pho Bo (rare, cooked, brisket, mince, etc..depending on mood) every time because it is great. It's even better than the pho I ate in Ho Chi Minh. NOTE: CASH ONLY I came all the way from Michigan to eat here! I admit that's not very far haha. Anyway, the pho is top notch and this is coming from a true Vietnamese person from little saigon in California and who has been to Vietnam as well. You can tell this a locals place. There's a whole bunch of kids that take up the table in the middle of the restaurant who I assume are the restaurant owners kids and friends. It's got a nice homey feel to it. The restaurant is also clean and service is prompt. The pho soup is clean with good aroma. You can tell it was made with love. Pho is made from boiling the meat and bone of a cow over countless hours and it is a labor of love to care for the soup to make sure the taste and broth remains clean. You have to constantly scoop the debris from the top of the broth. A lot of times you look at pho and the soup is all brown and muddy. That means the restaurant dgaf. You can see the clarity of the soup here and that it is nowhere close to brown and muddy. They also have great bun bo hue here which is a type of noodle soup from the heartland of Vietnam. You can think of it as pho's spicy hot red headed sister from the countryside hehe. Should give it a try if you're willing to try something different from pho. It is not the most authentic representation of the style but I think that it is still pretty good. The vermicelli is just OK. Anyway I highly recommend this place and it sure beats anything there is in Michigan and since this is a pho restaurant I'm going to rate it off of their pho not their other dishes and that gets 5 stars form me. After a day trip to Detroit, we decided to hit this place up for some Viet food before our drive back home. Unfortunately, we didn't realize when inputting the restaurant in our GPS that the restaurant was in fact in Canada, and had not prepared for a trip across the border and did not have our passports on hand. On a more positive note, the Canadian patrol guards were extremely friendly and understanding about our plight (eh). After a few very worrisome minutes waiting in customs, were were lucky enough to be able to enter Canada and enjoy this great restaurant. The restaurant itself is very clean, and staff was very friendly. We ordered the bun bo hue and the egg noodles with crispy chicken. We also ordered an avocado and jackfruit smoothie to have with our meal. The smoothies and food came out very quickly, and despite the fact that it was nearly closing time, the staff didn't seem to rush us at all. The bun bo hue had a rich, complex flavor and the crispy chicken was delicious. So glad I had the chance to visit this place, even though I had to somewhat illegally cross the Canadian border in order to do so! read more

Having discovered Pho cuisine only a few years ago, I tried this place and a few others in the Windsor area. This one was head-and-shoulders above the rest. As I began trying Pho restaurants during my visits to Toronto (all styles of cuisine seem better in Toronto), I assumed I would find something up that way that would beat it. There was nothing better than this place. Anywhere. Hands down, there is no better place for Pho than here. Even my own Vietnamese friends claim this is better than what their own mother makes! I usually have the soups but have explored some of the other entrees a bit. Everything tastes amazing! And Sally is, by far, my favorite waitress in town! I love this place so much that I eat here about once a week. There are few things I like more than a big old bowl of Pho soup from this place. It's delicious and quite healthy for you, too. Yay for pho!! I'm a huge fan of noodle soup (can't tell from my profile? lol), so I'm always down for a nice bowl of pho. Based on all the positive reviews here on Yelp for Pho Nguyen Hoang, I had to try this place. The end result? Good stuff. :) Without saying too much that other Yelpers have mentioned, we ordered the fried spring rolls ($3.75 for 3), shrimp and pork rolls ($3.95 for 2), and two bowls of pho (1 small and 1 large; wonder where the medium went? lol). Priced at $6.25 for the small and $6.95 for the large, you get A LOT of noodles and broth. Perfect for a cool day. Once Husband saw my bowl, he started to think that maybe he should have ordered the small instead of the large. The large bowl was massive, pretty much the same size as Que Huong's, but with MORE STUFF. Yum. Broth was clear and flavorful, and not an overwhelming fish sauce after taste. The Thai Basil was fresh and crisp, as well as the bean sprouts, but the only thing that irked me? NO LIME!! ONLY LEMON WEDGES!! That was a first for me, but it was still okay and didn't affect the overall flavor of the broth. I wonder what it'd taste like with the lime instead though. The girl who serviced us was nice, friendly, quick, and accommodating, although running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Poor thing, she works hard. We had plenty of tea and water refills. Also, if I had to pick between the rolls, I'd stick with the shrimp and pork rolls. Fresher, much more meat filling, and great bounce in the shrimp. The spring rolls were okay, but too greasy for my liking. I've been going there since I was a little kid and believe me it's been there for a long time. I love their pho broth, noodles, and their overall menu selection. It's top tier pho. I ordered the #45 pho, which came with everything imaginable and was full of different types of meat to enjoy with a sriracha and hoisin sauce (you should seriously consider trying it if you never have before). Broth was great and honestly, may be the most important part of a bowl of pho. Gf got the special fried chicken and noodle soup combo and I have to say the fried chicken worked well well with the soup. It was fried and seasoned perfectly and a really good complement to the blander noodle soup which needed some sourness/salt. Noodles were well made and cooked in both dishes. My review is based mostly on service - I got takeout and carried it back to my hotel, so there were a few shortfalls to this situation: 1. I had no dish big enough to accommodate all of the broth and meat/greens at once. 2. Because the meat/noodles/greens were in separate from the broth for so long, the blend of flavours was a little off, and so tasted more bland than it probably should have. 3. Something is lost when trying to pour a giant cup of broth into a tiny paper bowl meant for continental hotel breakfasts. Kind of ruins the experience. The service was amazing. The lady greeted me enthusiastically and was happy to help guide me through the menu on the spot. She even offered to get my meal started while I ran to the convenience store to grab cash from an ATM. They were fast and extremely courteous. I waited no more than 10 minutes.
