Their tofu and vegetable pho is made with beef broth, not veggie broth. Just a FYI for all the vegetarians out there. Disappointed in the lack of veggie options, I opted for the vermicelli with spring rolls and even stated no meat nor meat byproducts. Waiter came out with fish sauce. Had to ask for soy sauce. Spring rolls were small and temperature was not fresh; it was probably sitting there for awhile. The cucumber was short and thick? Normally, thin and long cucumber, no? Pho dac biet was bland. WARNING - Don't park at the plaza next door when you visit here. There are signs so you'll be fine, if not they you'll get towed. Came here for dinner on Saturday. They were fairly busy, about 60% capacity but we were seated right away and the service was pretty quick. Taking out one star only because their hoisin sauce came in a small bowl instead of a bottle on the table. I would prefer to squeeze it out of a bottle alongside dipping the meat in the sauce. For the food, it's actually pretty good. One thing that stood out for me was the broth for the Pho Dac Biet. It has a different taste from what I'm used to when eating Pho around Toronto. I can't quite explain it but two thumbs up. The chicken wings had the right amount of crisp but some could've been cooked more. For the Seafood, it was good but nothing spectacular. Going back to my warning sign, the location is not as convenient parking-wise. There's a plaza next door but you can't park there since its for customers for the restaurant/stores in that location. We had to park on the side street. And even then, you can't park there during certain months. At the end of the day, I recommend this place to satisfy your Pho cravings. read more

They can accommodate for allergies, since my brother is allergic to peanut and it's a very strongly used ingredient we were nervous to bring him, and they were happy to help us. A tasty Vietnamese find in Windsor! Visited with a few friends for the weekend and we were looking for something different to try, and there seem to be a decent number of Vietnamese places in the city, so we chose this one partly for the good reviews and partly out of convenience. My crispy chicken leg with tomato rice was delicious. Not sure what the little sauce they put on the chicken was, but it was quite flavorful, and the rice being flavored was definitely a step up from the white rice that would normally come with this at similar restaurants. Not sure how they make this tomato rice, but it is very good--if you have had West African djollof rice, it's similar to that in consistency and flavor. The setup was a little confusing here. They bring menus out to you with little pencils and papers, and you write down your order for them instead of telling them verbally. In fact, there was not one word spoken between our waiter and anyone at the table, LOL. We also had a little bit of an issue when checking out--if you are an American dining here, be prepared to pay in cash. They only accept debit and cash, and we tried to pay with our debit cards, but in Canada our American debit cards registered in the system as credit cards. My favourites are the #58 - Tomato Rice & Beef Cubes with some veggies (sometimes I like to throw in a fried egg if I'm more hungry), the avocado, soursop milkshakes and my dad's a pretty big fan of the 3 bean dessert drink (pictured). AMBIANCE: it is bright, open, tons of tables. It's not the quietest place but it's decent. LOCATION: I did not see a parking lot specifically for the restaurant, but there are meters out front as well as free parking on the side streets. SERVICE: it was quick, friendly and accommodating. They were all speaking Vietnamese so I assume this is family owned. FOOD: I ordered the pho with brisket and round steak. They only serve one size but it's a huge bowl. Portions were equal to a large/extra large in the US. The meat was tender and sliced thin and nicely. There was tons of noodles and even better is they had the perfect ratio of meat to noodles. It's always a bummer to get to the end and only have noodles and no meat. The broth unfortunately was very bland. I hope that because we got to the restaurant around noon, maybe the broth hadn't had enough time to sit around and pick up all the ingredients. What ever the reason, the broth was very watered down and need much more flavor and seasonings. I also got the 3 bean dessert (che Ba Màu), it was good for the most part. Nothing special about it, the pandan jelly was a bit too soft. PRICING: it was a good price for the size and portion we got. I was reluctant to come here because in the description it says: no wifi. Good news, they do have free internet. Not only this Phó joint is big, shinny&clean, it's also a popular spot for familie's Sundays out (has large tables). I also noticed plenty of people stopping byto pick up take outs. I must say I loved both of the milkshakes I ordered in the 2 different occasions I went (sour sop and mango). In one occasion I was trying to follow a vegetarian diet, I ordered the phó with tofu and veggies. The tofu was plenty, chunky, a really tasty-guilty free option, however, I'm not sure if the broth was veggie based. One of those hang over days my body was craving meat, my mind wasn't clear, my sweaty-shaking hand made my will power surrender to the rare beef, well done brisket, and tripe magic potion (still trying to become a vegetarian,but damn it's tough). What can I say about this place. It's clean and located near the university. The service was fast and lots of meal to choose from. I ended up getting the summer spring roll and grilled pork chop on rice. To be honest, it was average at best and something that don't make a lasting taste that makes me want to comeback. The spring roll was bland and it's really just a wrapped salad, this could've been better by placing a delicious sauce. The grilled pork chop could've been better by having an egg on the side. But the the pork chop was cooked perfectly! Little improvements are needed to really bumped this restaurant from ok to must go on my books. I was in the middle of class when I started craving pho so after it ended I bolted towards Pho Xic Lo. I still always order No. 31 (Seafood noodle soup) which is my favourite! On top of that, if I have room, I order their No.1 Spring Rolls (Shrimp, ground pork, vermicelli, taro). I absolutely must have the beansprouts and lime that accompany my pho. Wish I could have given them more stars. It was a difficult decision but in the end, I needed to go with my gut. In the taste department, I give them a 4.5/5. I ordered the Pho Bo Noodle Soup with rare beef, brisket and tripe. The broth was great, flavorful with a tinge of sweetness that separates itself from the others. Heads and shoulders above those Cantonese-run faux noodle joints up in Toronto. Anyway, you may ask, "Dude, you gave them a 4.5 for taste but why only 3 stars overall??". Well, to be frank, I ran into a little bit of trouble later on and can only attribute it to the Pho. I think it was the rare bo! Oh how I miss my days of living down the street from Pho Xic Lo. This place is cheap, dependable and delicious. The "medium rare" pho is something I miss now that we're in Ottawa - it doesn't seem to be added raw in Ottawa or if it is it's stirred in until it's well-cooked. At Pho Xic Lo you can still snag a piece or two with some pink left in them and that makes a big difference to me. Everything I ever tried here was good, but I mostly stuck to the various pho and summer rolls (mmm, so good). I did try the pad thai and it was OK, but I'd recommend going to a thai place if that's what you're in the mood for. I would say more, but there's not much to say. It's just a good Vietnamese restaurant. Definitely give it a try. read more

K make sure you start off with a Summer Roll! It comes with a peanut dipping sauce, but since I hate peanuts I ask for fish sauce (sounds gross, but it's really good). I tried the Thai mango salad, but I wasn't too crazy about it. The mango was kind of sour. But a friend told me that's how it's suppose to be prepared, so I won't hold it against them. I've had papaya salad before, but elsewhere...so maybe I'll give that a try the next time I'm there. I usually order Bun when I'm there, you can have your choice of shrimp, beef or chicken and pork. I don't eat pork, so I can't really say if it's good or not....but all of the other choices are awesome. It comes with vermicelli, pickled cabbage, shredded carrots (i think they're pickled too) bean sprouts, shredded cucumber and they sprinkle peanuts on top (I ask for no peanuts). It comes with a side of fish sauce. It's such a simple dish, but it's soo amazing. I've had this at a few other Vietnamese places, and this is by far the best! As for service, it's pretty fast and the servers seem to be on top of things! read more

One of the best bowls of pho yet that I've had anywhere. The broth was perfect, and the noodles, veggies, and various meats were fresh and plentiful. I didn't even need to use much hoisin or sriracha because it was delicious as is. The beef comes thinly sliced and rare, just as it should. Also had the bun thit nuong cha gio chao tom (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork, egg roll, and minced shrimp on a sugarcane). This was almost perfect. Huge portions and very generous with the pork, but the pork had very little marinade. Finished it off with some sinh to bo (avocado smoothie). They use fresh fruits for all their smoothies, none of that powder shit. I actually couldn't taste anything at first, but I let it melt a little bit which brought the flavor out. Good stuff. The service was fast and friendly (and fluent). The restaurant is simple and clean on the inside while unassuming on the outside. Please, please don't hesitate to come here based on comments that this area is "sketchy". LOL. I grew up in a secluded, safe suburb with little diversity. Driving here, parking on the side street, and walking here was nothing. Your car is safe. You are safe. Enjoy the area! I feel like yelp hasn't really established much of a presence in Windsor given the lack of reviews for pretty much all the restaurants in the area. Do a search for restaurants and sort by most reviews, and all top 40 results take you to the motor city. This made me hit the tunnel to Detroit and eat there, but that wasn't even necessary. It's hard to find a good Vietnamese restaurant in our part of Michigan, so we were pleased to find this place in nearby Windsor. We have been here only once, so will update after more visits, but our first meal was amazing. I tried a terrific curry dish; I'm sorry I don't remember the name, but ask the server for it. SO good! A friend had a Fried Rice Supreme or some such name and it too was wonderful - not at all greasy and very very flavorful. Server said they do use some MSG, but it did not bother me as it often does in Chinese places, so they can't use very much. Server told us that this place is known for its Pho, so we will try that another time. Our server was really great: very friendly, full of good advice, and very fast and attentive. The dining room is spacious and clean and bright. Prices are excellent. We had gone from MI to the Point Pelee Nat'l Park for the day - a really nice place to canoe and see birds - and Pho Xic Lo was a perfect ending to our day in Ont. read more

I love this place. The food is consistent and delicious. I usually get the # 14 which is Pho with well done brisket and rare roast beef. Served with fresh bean sprouts and basil. The broth is beefy with a hint of sweet, the rice noodles are delicate but have a little fight left. Perfect! Red and green onions are in the soup as well. The only way to improve it would be some fresh Jalapeno or similar pepper with the sprouts. The usual condiments are available on the table, chili garlic sauce, fish sauce, soy, etc. A little fish sauce adds complexity to the broth and some chili garlic brings the heat. Fast and attentive service. Be advised parking is a bit of a challenge. read more

So this is my absolute favourite restaurant in all of Windsor. If you have a peanut, mint of fish allergy you may want to stay clear but I suggest calling at least and seeing what your options are. The interior of the building has a very nice modern feel to it. Clean, tiles, flat screen tvs. (Some of) the wait staff can come across a little stand off-ish but they are friendly and very helpful. Food prices are ridiculously low considering the size of the portions. And the food is absolutely sublime. My favourite meal is getting the summer rolls and the 69--best in the restaurant. The meat is an explosion of flavours in your mouth not tasted in typical North American cuisine. The noodles are always cooked perfectly and taste like heaven--especially after you pour the fish sauce on. Please don't be scared off by your own ignorance. Be adventurous and try anything on this menu. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Not sure if they have any vegan options (update to come) but they do use a lot of fresh vegetables with their dishes so you can enjoy the feeling of a slightly healthier choice for lunch/dinner. Did I mention the behemoth portion sizes?! I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. This is a certain must for any consumer. Appies: Tried one of the rolls with mint as an appetizer the first time (autumn roll?) pretty great and the sugar cane with shrimp (winter roll) quite special. Maybe this is a beef with Pho more generally but I can't say I love the 'spam-esque' meats. Overall quite well balanced but exciting and dynamic bowl of soup. Quite hearty. Dessert: What? They have creme brulee and flan. Got the creme brûlée it was delicious and torched very well. After moving to Halifax boy do I ever miss this place sometimes. The pho here is sooo flavourful and fresh, I love the condiments on the table as well. This place is always busy, it's a well known Windsor restaurant. It's very neat and clean inside too, it has a very open airy feel. I love to go here with my friend and casually eat pho and spring rolls while catching up. I have seen other people ordering fancy drinks and milkshakes that look really good! I always think I'll be too full if I get one too but one day I will! Their rice combos that come with meat and a spring roll are also very popular and look delicious. Wonderful little restaurant. Very pleased with how good the meals were for an incredibly reasonable price! My husband, who has never tried Pho before, was left with the best impression! Only thing that I would comment on needing improvement would be the service from the waiters...lots of young, teenagers taking orders but not always paying attention to when we needed them to come back so we could order a few Astra things. First off, I want to say that I loved this place. My wife and I would go there about once a week. Our last visit was quite different from all the others. It was at night, and I was looking out the window while my wife was getting to the end of her meal. A cockroach an inch long was slowly crawling down the window a foot from my face. I called out to our server, motioning to her to come over immediately, not wanting to cause a scene. When she got over, I pointed out our new friend, and she looked very concerned. She asked us to please sit at another table. We did, and my wife had maybe two more bites of her meal before she really didn't feel like eating anymore. Another staff member walked over, stood on the chair, and grabbed the roach with a napkin, and walked back. He didn't look very concerned. 2 minutes later, another couple were seated at the table. We got up to go, and went to the counter. I made sure the server was there when we went up. He asked if we were together or separate, I motioned the server again and said, "I'm glad you came over so quickly, I didn't want to say anything out loud." She said thank you and that she appreciated that. I looked to the cashier, who was also the manager. He said that he could take off the tax for us. On a $27 bill, that amounted to $3. The nonchalant behaviour of the staff member who caught the roach, and the sheer size of the insect really speaks to a larger problem at this restaurant. My wife works in kitchens and told me that it's the largest roach she's ever seen, and that includes having worked in downtown Toronto. Like I said, I loved this place, but their reputation and the continued business from two loyal customers turned out to be worth a grand total of $3. read more

Great food and prices, but the owner needs to mind his manners! This place has great pho (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) and bun (cold rice noodle salads) and the prices won't break the bank. That's probably why it's so popular with the university crowd as well as the diverse local neighbourhood. Their jackfruit milkshakes and fresh-squeezed lime and orange juices are refreshing on a hot summer day. Their summer rolls of minced shrimp wrapped around sugar cane are also a tasty treat! The only food that leaves a bit to be desired is their "Thai red curry" and "Pat thai". This is obviously a Vietnamese restaurant first and foresmost, as the curries are not authentic and neither is the Pat thai. Go down the street to the restaurant "Eat in Thailand" if you want authentic Thai food. The only potential detriment to this business is the owner. He's very friendly and will come to your table to tell a joke, or two, or six as he did on my last visit. However, he told a couple of racist jokes and made some racist remarks which a few patrons would have been offended by had they overheard him. It was very unprofessional on his part and he should know better, minding his manners and keeping his thoughts to himself.
