Strangely located in the basement, but kind of a cool layout if you are hiding from a tornado. I took out Chicken Pad Thai with extra Tofu on top. $14. It is mall food court level food. Filling, but utilitarian. Not even close in quality to nearby House Of Pad Thai. And about half the number of ingredients. Oh well, at least I am full. read more

So I wanted to try this place based on a recommendation from someone. Know that this place is in the basement. I knew it was beforehand but my hubby didn't. We arrived to the restaurant in the basement and no one was dining. We were a bit early for dinner (it was about 530p) and we were initially concerned that no one was there. We were seated quickly and ordered. The Thai spring rolls are amazing. You get 4 of them and they're nice and crispy and come with dipping sauce. My entree was chicken and I ordered a side of rice. I like that you can choose the spiciness of your food. Medium spicy was just right. The chicken was good and came with a dipping sauce but didn't have much flavor in terms of seasoning. My hubby orders noodles and said they were a bit greasy. It's kind of a nondescript place with tan walls and of course no windows. Could be livened up a bit. I might try it again but I think I'd do take out next time. read more

This visit I decided to try something new for lunch so I ordered the green curry chicken (includes eggplant, green beans, and bamboo shoots). I also had a bowl of their tom yum goong (tiger shrimp) soup. I settled with a medium level of spice. Their soup is one of my favourites in the city. Sometimes I just come in for the soup or soup and their Thai spring rolls. I was nervous about the green curry chicken because I'm not a big fan of coconut milk. Sometimes it gets too creamy for me and I get nauseous but other times it's a solid 10. So basically a Russian roulette for my stomach woo! The green curry was a lot lighter in colour than I thought it'd be BUT IT WAS GREAT! I should've gone for hot spice but that's okay. The coconut milk was subtle and did not impact the flavour. I scarfed my entire meal down. Personally, I'm happy with the amount of rice that comes with it! If it's a favourite place of mine, sometimes I get hesitant to order something new. I don't know why. But trying new things at Basil Court is a great decision because of their lunch special prices! read more

I am knocking off a star for two easily fixed reasons... First: I'd never dined alone here, only done take out or come with someone else. With no decent mobile coverage and no wifi, a/c cranked way high and glum basement surroundings, this place becomes JAIL. At a minimum please purchase a wireless modem and join 2013. Thank you! I'm still working to match Basil Court up here in Ottawa - this was very easily our favourite Thai place in Windsor. When you first enter the restaurant you may think to yourself "What have I gotten myself into?" as you head down the glass staircase to the restaurant, which is below street level? But press on - it's worth it! Once you get in here the place is pretty big and could easily accomodate a crowd. We've been here for date nights and with groups as large as twenty people and everything has always been good. Our favourite dishes are the Thai spring rolls, pad thai (so good), yellow curry chicken, green curry shrimp... and actually, everything. This place is so good. The reviewer who says when you move away from Windsor all you can think about if you think "Thai" is Basil Court is spot on. read more

Hands down the best thai restaurant I've ever been to. The staff are very friendly, the food is always delicious and the prices are perfect. 2 people for $22, leaving room for a great tip. My husband and I have become regulars there and even when we order out, she recognizes our voice on the phone. The main woman doesn't get paid much but she's always running around going above and beyond to fill every customers need. 5 stars. read more

Just had delivery from Basil Court. Not impressed at all. The Pad Thai literally had 1 chunk of chicken and 2 shrimp mixed in with the mushy noodles. I had the fried tofu as others suggested on it ...not good at all .I should have just made a mushy linguini with sriracha because that's pretty much what I got. Also the Thai spring rolls are tiny bite size with a little bit of plum suace. Finally the beef satay, 4 tiny bits ..the peanut sauce was bland , basically peanut butter watered down.. this order came to $35.00 with delivery fee and a charge because I used visa.. When you move away from Windsor all you can think about when you think about Thai is Basil Court. Ask anyone who's a born and bred Windsorite and whose moved away from the city and they'll tell you: there just ain't nothing like it. A typical conversation will go like this: Speaker 1: "I'm hungry." Speaker 2: "Me too. Let's do Thai!" Speaker 1: "Mmm. Where should we go?" Speaker 2: "I don't know" (thinks) "Ugh. I wish there was a Basil Court here!" Speaker 1: "Ohhh! That Pad Thai!" Speaker 2: "That tofu!" Speaker 1: "How it's all spongy but not soggy!" Speaker 1 & 2: "Mmmmmm" Normally I don't like Pad Thai. This restaurant is located in the basement was empty on a weekend we where the only ones there. Ordered Thai basil chicken, khao phad kai, crispy rice noodles and kai phad king. Except for the thai basil chicken others where alright. When we where served thai basil chicken, it looked like beige paste, goop more like and didn't smell very appetizing. This restaurant doesn't use fresh basil leaves instead uses basil paste made from preservatives which the staff failed to inform us. I love Thai food and never experienced something like this ever. Apparently their customers don't like fresh basil so they use the paste. May be the staff should mention this when the customer orders so they can make an informed decision. Please don't generalize you customers. We asked the waitress why this was not mentioned before when we asked about all the dishes before we ordered, she just shrugged and said you will have to pay for it because you ordered and left. read more

Prices are decent for Canada but the food isn't that great. I do enjoy the vegetable pad Thai with added tofu though. I have gone back a few times for this. And the beer is decently priced again for Canada. So in summary if you find yourself trapped in Windsor you'll find there aren't exactly a lot options for dining out so you might as well try this place as its the only one i've actually gone back to (but don't bother with other dishes!) Be aware that it is down a creepy looking staircase but its perfectly fine once you get down to the restaurant itself. read more

Thai curries here are excellent: Large shrimp, strong flavour. Other rice or noodle dishes are pretty average.

I cannot say I have ever tried anything better than Basil Court. It is without a doubt the best Thai food I have ever put in my mouth and might even be the best thing I have ever put in my mouth period. I have been coming to Basil Court for ten years now and it hasn't changed a bit!!! The food is amazing and for a very reasonable price. I live in Toronto now but since I moved there hasn't been one time that I have gone to Windsor and not eaten at this restaurant. This place easily rivals the fancy 40$ for one steak restaurants I've been to. I always get the Basil Chicken, and take this from an expert, it's the thing to get. I love Basil Court! I cannot stretch this enough. The chicken is always cooked to perfection, the gravy is so delicious, just thinking about it makes my mouth water!! The food here is ok, if you can get it in time. They need a point of sale device or they need to replace that lady in the front with a track star. She tries hard but can't run the orders to the back fast enough, on top of that she serves tables and is the cashier. They have no concept of time no concept of the fact that during weekdays their customers are downtown employees who have time limits for lunch. If you order at 11:30 AM and say you will pick it up at 12:30 or if they tell you they need an hour or 45 minutes, you'll be lucky to get your food by 12:55pm. A pos system would eliminate the need for running orders back and wasting time. They need to improve their service. read more

My favourite restaurant in Windsor by far! Their vegetarian dishes have never let me down yet. Between me and my friends, we have tried EVERYTHING on the menu and there isn't anything I would recommend against. I recommend asking for the crispy tofu as an add-on to your dish. It's super yummy and even people that have eaten with me who don't care for tofu have loved it. Solid Thai food in a no-frills setting. The yellow curry is phenomenal and portion size is more than enough for two. Pad Thai is...unique. My boyfriend and I visit Windsor often and our usual haunt is Mandarin House on Ouellette. Yesterday we were there for the Detroit/Windsor fireworks and found Mandarin House had closed early "due to a graduation". So (after checking yelp!) we went next door to Basil Court Thai Restaurant. I'm so glad we decided to try some Thai food over the McDonalds we walked by... Anyway, we were very impressed. When you first get there you see a tiny little hole in the wall, but when you walk down the stairs, there is a whole underground restaurant complete with Thai decor. I found it very pleasant. The waitstaff were all Thai and very friendly. Now for the food. we ordered the Spring Rolls with chicken and pork. I thought they would be your typical spring roll with veggies and meat, but these had almost a dumplings filling in them. It was only meat, wrapped in spring roll paper and fried. They were small and perfect for an app. My boyfriend ordered a yellow curry with potatoes, carrots and chicken and it came with a big bowl of white rice. He really enjoyed it and I thought the curry was very flavorful. He doesn't like spicy so he got mild, which was just fine. I ordered the Spicy Thai Noodle which comes with both beef and chicken and I ordered mine medium spicy. I was so glad I picked it because it was really hard to decide on which dish I wanted. The noodles were tender and the meat was really thin and perfectly cooked. Not to mention we both got very generous portions and mine had a good amount of meat in it. I hate when I order a dish and I get 3 or 4 little pieces of meat. I took my leftovers home and enjoyed them, reheated, for lunch. Very yummy!! read more

I recently came here with a friend and we ordered some soup, a pineapple rice dish and pad Thai. I would specifically like to review the pad Thai. I'm fairly certain this pad Thai was the kind flavoured with ketchup which is not the authentic flavour I enjoy when I order it. Pad Thai sauce gets it's taste from tamarind, palm sugar and fish sauce (the key ingredients). I can tell when a restaurant doesn't use this in their sauce. It's not unheard of to use ketchup in pad Thai sauce if you google it many will come up with that ingredient. I just can't enjoy it once I've had the sweet tamarind tang in a more authentic pad Thai. I'm not sure ketchup is used, but all I know is that it was more tomato tasting and less tangy... I just didn't enjoy it. Their soup is delicious, and I like their dining area very much, very cozy. I'd go back but I just won't order pad Thai. read more

The service was great but this was by far the worst food I've ever had. I had the eggplant and coconut dish. It was in some sort of gravy and the eggplant was very freaky. A friend of mine who usually has great taste in food recommended this place. We went to it and I was really underwhelmed. The only redeeming quality was that it was really affordable. The pad thai was overly sweet, and the ambiance of the restaurant is kind of lacking as it's in a basement and looks like it was decorated in the 70s.
