    Thai spring rolls

So I wanted to try this place based on a recommendation from someone. Know that this place is in the basement. I knew it was beforehand but my hubby didn't. We arrived to the restaurant in the basement and no one was dining. We were a bit early for dinner (it was about 530p) and we were initially concerned that no one was there. We were seated quickly and ordered. The Thai spring rolls are amazing. You get 4 of them and they're nice and crispy and come with dipping sauce. My entree was chicken and I ordered a side of rice. I like that you can choose the spiciness of your food. Medium spicy was just right. The chicken was good and came with a dipping sauce but didn't have much flavor in terms of seasoning. My hubby orders noodles and said they were a bit greasy. It's kind of a nondescript place with tan walls and of course no windows. Could be livened up a bit. I might try it again but I think I'd do take out next time.

Green curry chicken (eggplant, green beans, and bamboo shoots)

This visit I decided to try something new for lunch so I ordered the green curry chicken (includes eggplant, green beans, and bamboo shoots). I also had a bowl of their tom yum goong (tiger shrimp) soup. I settled with a medium level of spice. Their soup is one of my favourites in the city. Sometimes I just come in for the soup or soup and their Thai spring rolls. I was nervous about the green curry chicken because I'm not a big fan of coconut milk. Sometimes it gets too creamy for me and I get nauseous but other times it's a solid 10. So basically a Russian roulette for my stomach woo! The green curry was a lot lighter in colour than I thought it'd be BUT IT WAS GREAT! I should've gone for hot spice but that's okay. The coconut milk was subtle and did not impact the flavour. I scarfed my entire meal down. Personally, I'm happy with the amount of rice that comes with it! If it's a favourite place of mine, sometimes I get hesitant to order something new. I don't know why. But trying new things at Basil Court is a great decision because of their lunch special prices!

Thai spring rolls. Always a hit.

I am knocking off a star for two easily fixed reasons... First: I'd never dined alone here, only done take out or come with someone else. With no decent mobile coverage and no wifi, a/c cranked way high and glum basement surroundings, this place becomes JAIL. At a minimum please purchase a wireless modem and join 2013. Thank you! Second: my VERY tasty seafood curry was chock full of potatoes. A TON of them. Good taste, good spice, but why so much? Ease up Totally willing to review after a future visit.

The place was gloomy and our order took an hour to come out. Food was good though. I recommend just ordering take out and picking it up.

Love their food. My favorite is the pad thai and mango salad. Their sticky rice is also great. We will be back!

Thai curries here are excellent: Large shrimp, strong flavour. Other rice or noodle dishes are pretty average.

Thai Lanxang Restaurant - Small but trendy

Recently visited this great little place on Howard Ave and I was not disappointed…read more The first thing you notice about Thai Lanxang is that despite its relatively small size it's very contemporary and chic. It's really a nice environment and atmosphere to sit in and though I wasn't sure how comfortable those chairs would be to sit on they were quite enjoyable for the time we were there. The first things we ordered were a couple of spring rolls and a bowl of wonton soup. The spring rolls arrived piping hot and were rolled very tightly. Really nice taste to them and I enjoyed the sweet chili sauce that accompanied them. The soup was really simple and nice. A light but tasty broth that didn't have too much (if any) of the oil you often see floating on the surface of wonton broth. We tried a range of food to get a good feel for the place and really weren't disappointed with anything that we ordered. The sushi, I have to say, might be the best sushi I've tasted in the area. It was extremely well done. I tried their spicy California roll, Philadelphia roll, and rainbow roll. One of the things I really like about California rolls is when they don't just throw a piece of cut crab-stick in the middle of it. These were nicely shredded bits of crab mixed with the avocado and cucumber - the texture was great. The rolls were also pretty big; nine nice sized pieces of sushi in each of the rolls. Entrees at the table consisted of Pad Thai, Lemon Chicken and Orange Chicken. All of them were prepared and presented very nicely. The lemon and orange sauce was very... well... lemony and orange. Really nice flavor to both of them and the sauce consistency was nice and sticky - not runny like you sometimes get. The Pad Thai was ordered medium and that was decently spicy but very good as well. This is definitely a place I'll go to again, especially for the sushi - in fact I could see me going here just for a sushi night it was that good. The only thing they need is their own signature sushi sauce!

I'm back! I came here again with the same friend from last time. Served by the same waitress but…read morelet's get to the food! Mild/Medium/Hot (spicy levels) I ordered a small Hot and Sour soup and Pad Thai (veggie, hot, asked for no peanuts). My friend ordered shrimp wraps and Pad Thai (tofu, medium, asked for no peanuts). Their hot and sour soup is fantastic here! It's not loaded with starch as it is in many Chinese restaurants. It was WAY better than their Tom Yum Shrimp soup I had the last time. My friend enjoyed his shrimp wraps and loved the peanut sauce (we think the sauce is okay but just plain crushed nuts on noodles is not really for us). My Pad Thai was spicier than it should have been because I had just finished downing my soup so the spiciness from that came was enhanced. I squeezed the lime that came with my Pad Thai on top of the noodles which tasted great but probably made it spicier (again). Bean sprouts accompanied my meal and small chili pepper flakes were throughout my noodles. Funny thing though, my udon from last time was TOO salty and my Pad Thai this time wasn't salty enough. But there was a salt shaker on our table so that solved things. My friend's Pad Thai was darker orange-red than mine from the tofu and the sauce that covered it. He really enjoyed his meal as he finished a good 15-minutes before me. I bumped my review up one star because I honestly do not mind trying new things at this location! Their Hot and Sour soup helped too :) I'll be back soon!
