I'm not sure why people are giving this place 5 star reviews or even why the newspaper wrote 'Phenomenal Pho!' My wife(Vietnamese) and I stopped by today on a whim. I ordered Pho Dac Biet and my wife ordered Pho Ga. When the soup arrived at our table, we knew immediately that it was not gonna be good. Broth was clear as water. My beef pho came with three small pieces of old beef with one piece of tendon. Noodles tasted as though they have been sitting in the restaurant for months. This place seriously has the best Viet/Thai food in town. Their Pho and Pad Thai are literally the best of these dishes that I've ever had. Our go-to pho place in the Progress Ridge area. Staff is always friendly, and the takeout pho broth is always piping hot (like seriously, watch out for your fingers). To the reviewer complaining about raw meat in the takeout pho, agreed that they should probably mention this, but the soup is hot enough to cook the meat if you don't travel too far. Dump out the contents into a bowl, pour the soup over, and voila, no more red meat. It's the same as ordering it fresh. Chicken pho is a nice option for those who don't like red meat. read more

Whenever I crave Vietnamese home cooking, this is where I go to get my pho, lemongrass rice dishes, and vermicelli bowls. Their BBQ pork and egg noodle soup is also a recent favorite of mine. Do not come here if you are expecting an authentic Vietnamese pho!!!! I had ordered number 5 which is the "house special," and it was horrid!!! You can only taste flavored hot water and on top of that, they only have sriracha and hoisin sauce for condiments. You will need to ask for black pepper ( came in those small packets)chili oil ( which was not spicy at all) and fish sauce ( was not legit fish sauce but diluted in water) this place is a huge disappointment, will not ever come back or recommend!!! 1 Star is for the nice decorations. read more

I've had my share of fried rice in Texas and oregon but man does this place have the best Chicken Fried Rice I've had so far!!! Everyone was so nice and the food was fantastic I would come here everyday if I lived closer! I recommend the Chicken Fried Rice or the Beef Pho. I went here on my lunch break when I was working at a location nearby. They were super busy so it took a really long time to get my food. I ended up having to get it to go but the server was very apologetic and I could see she was trying really hard to take care of everyone so I totally understood the wait. This is the kind of pho place you go to because it's convenient, not because it's the best. The broth is thin and the servings are small compared with those at the kind of pho places Asians prefer. I say that as an Asian who knows pho. My husband loves their lemongrass chicken, but he's a white guy. This place has the benefit of being next to a Blue Star Donut and is in the same strip mall as a New Seasons, which makes it convenient. If not, no chance I'd go, because I can get pho that's not only much tastier, in a bigger serving, but is cheaper. Service is hit or miss. One other thing I dislike: This place is drafty during winter, because the door opens directly into the dining area without any windbreak. I prefer to keep my keister warm during a meal. So I've been wanting to try Pho for a while now. My husband and I picked a place and went. Pho Nam is in a good location, which helped us choose it, the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. The menu is beautiful. Leather with hand carved wooden fronts that came from a sweet lady in Vietnam. The owner told us all about her trip to Vietnam where she had them made by a little old lady. The menu has a great variety of different foods. I got the number 7 which was chicken and veggies with noodles and broth and my husband got the number 13 which was beef and noodles in broth. It was delicious! It came with a plate of basil, sprouts, peppers and limes to add in! I put sriracha in mine as well. I absolutely love it and highly recommend it! read more

Completely loved this restaurant. We went in today after an afternoon of sun and fun at Growleria and the lake. We were greeted with a smile and a VERY VERY clean setting. We were seated at a table for two and had our server immediately there to ask us what we would like to drink. We ordered the Salad Rolsl with Pork instead of Shrimp, The number 18 Pho and I had the Chicken Noodle Pho. I also had a Thai Tea. My husband started not feeling well abut ten minutes into our early dinner (heat exhaustion from our day in the sun) and the server noticed and came over immediately to see if everything was okay. We assured her the food was amazing, and everything was fine. My husband ended up leaving to go out to the car and I asked to pack up our dinners and apps and pay the bill. The chef even came out to pack up the food for me and brought me the bill. I assured them once again that the pho was amazing and we have been looking for a great Pho place since moving to Oregon. We WILL BE BACK! The broth is probably the best I have ever had, the vegetables and pork were fresh and tasty. The portions were huge and the prices were completely reasonable. I still just cannot get over how clean the establishment was and how concerned they were for my husband not feeling well. What a great restaurant with great values, great service and amazing food. Admittedly, coming to Portland has been a pleasant lesson in several things. One of them...is that there is quite a Vietnamese community here and even in the suburbs! We came here after a long morning of checking out apartments for our impending move here. The prices here are on the average are about 2-3 dollars here than they are in Texas. This is everywhere, not just this place. This made me a tiny bit sad. But then when our food came out, I was pleasantly surprised with the volume of quality food we were getting. We both got the regular noodle bowls and this place packs in the meat, toppings, and noodles. Our stop here was definitely what we needed after the stress of finding a rental option. We'll definitely come back here and recommend it to everyone looking for a quality Viet place. I had the wonton noodle soup and he had the pho. Many times, you go and there's hardly enough meat or the vegetable plate they bring is paltry, or the whole bowl is just noodles. Here...quality and quantity galore! I have seen this restaurant for sometimes. Today, for the first time I went there with my wife for lunch. The place was very nice and clean with open kitchen. They had couple of available tables and the owner asked us to take one. Within few minutes, she came to take our order. We got the Pho and the salad roll. Our food came shortly after order was taken. I have tried this soup in other restaurant as well. Their quality was good, fresh ingredients and very tender beef. Anyways, I will be back to try other dishes. But hopefully next time will get more basil. read more

I wanted to share my experience because the existing reviews of this place are so polarized - folks either LOVE it or hate it. I thought the entire experience was squarely average. I didn't find the spring rolls to be the best I've ever eaten. They were perfectly crispy but the filling was bland, and they were served with a neon-colored sauce packet instead of fresh sauce. The pho was fine, but not anything to drive across town for. The meat portion was generous and sliced thinly, which is my preference. The broth was lackluster - hot and reasonably beefy, but no subtle spiciness or simmered all day richness. The staff was friendly and attentive. While a little expensive for the Pho, the food is fresh, tasty, and quality ingredients. $9 for a bowl of pho is a little spendy. I'm use to seeing it between $7-8. Considering the area, I think they can get away with the price. I would still come back because of the location. It's 1 minute away from my house. Next time, I will have to try something else including the Vietnamese Coffee and salad rolls. If their Vietnamese Coffee and salad rolls are good, I will bump my review up to a 5. We were going to go to Big Al's across the street but it was too packed and no parking so we came back across the street. I'm really picky and tend to not try unknown places too often but we stumbled upon this little gem. The food was absolutely delicious and I'm very happy that we decided to eat here. This was on Sunday and now it's Wednesday and I came back again to eat dinner here by myself because it's that good. My wife and I had pho dishes and the owner and his staff was super helpful. Since my wife is allergic to MSG he pointed her to the vegetarian pho, but she wanted some shrimp so he just added shrimp. He said he could not guarantee that the meat dishes would have no MSG at all, as it is used in some of the premade sauces. I ordered the beef brisket pho and both of our bowls were huge. The beef was very tender and their pho has reduced salt so I did not leave craving water. My wife was very pleased with the shrimp pho which also was not too salty. Pho Nam is located in the Progress Ridge shopping center near Big Al's, and the restaurant is in perfect condition as you would imagine. The staff was very helpful and attentive. Recommend this place especially if you don't like to stand in line and then wait another 20 minutes for the food to hit the table. Given the location of Pho Nam I think the $9 bowl was a fair price.
