    Larb Popcorn Chicken

Big portion, not pricey. The restaurant is pretty clean and I see employee deep clean everything at the end of their shift. Flavorful chicken, mostly Thai style food. Dont order the fried chicken skin cause it's oily and flavorless

We had the food catered to our work place. They placed it nicely and neatly. 1. Popcorn chicken: since it's take out I know it won't be as fresh as dining in. It was okay, it was on the harder side and some parts of the chicken had a bit too much batter for my liking so I'm just biting into the batter than the chicken 2. The rice was flavorful with the ginger sauce (the sauce was nicely done) 3. Chicken: it was overall okay, but nothing outstanding. Some parts of the chicken were quite rough but if you're lucky you'll find a tender piece but you need the sauce since it's supposed to be less seasoned 4. The chicken drumsticks were harder than the popcorn chicken 5. We also got tofu but I didn't try because I personally never had tofu served like that haha. Usually it's slightly pan fried if not fried but that's my problem but we had that option for vegetarians.

Rooster & rice is located in a shopping center that has many delicious restaurant options like Bombay pizza, Desi Bites and Oyatsupan. So we wanted to check out Rooster and Rice to compare it with its neighbors. The front of the store looks clean and modern. There is some seating in the front, but it's pretty limited. After we placed our order (Original Khao Mun Gai and Hat Yai chicken) we were told there were was more seating in the back. We were pleasantly surprised that it was a nice bar with plenty of seats. The food was ready quickly, and both dishes tasted great as they were both served fresh and hot. My husband liked the Khao Mun Gai and I really enjoyed the Hat Yai chicken as the it was crispy, juicy and delicious. One of my food weaknesses is fried chicken so I devoured it within minutes. Overall, we really liked Rooster and Rice. My husband said his Khao Mun Gai wasn't as tender as a homemade one, but for a commercial kitchen it was nice to have it without having to cook it ourselves. Needless to say I did thoroughly enjoy my Hat Yai chicken and I think Rooster & Rice will be my new comfort food spot.

Delicious | clean and bright atmosphere First time coming here after hearing good things about this place from the Bay Area. It's another good quick lunch spot to hit up. We ordered the original (delicious): chicken breast, thigh with skin, bed of rice with a side of cucumber slices, and a cup of chicken broth. This was perfect to have right after my climbing session. I liked their sauce on the side, which has a gingery taste. The meat is so moist! Chicken breast can usually be dry, but this was excellent. I also had it with some of the broth, and this really completed my meal with a nice cold and rainy fall day. Thanks! Good sized portion too. Next time, I would like to try the Pearl. There is another establishment in the back, a bar, so I'd like to check that out next time. Good parking and location. Casual. Clean. New. We'll be back!

Finally got to visit this newly opened restaurant and came here on a Wednesday during lunch time. Their menu is small with a few key signature items and some vegetarian options along with yummy sides (like the fried chicken skin!) You order at the counter and can get takeout or sit down there. It looks like they also have online ordering as well. Service was very friendly but they were pretty busy at lunch time. This is a small space (not including the bar space in the back) with limited seating for dine in - 4 small tables and some window counter type seating in the corner. For the $15 rice combo, we got the Hat Yai and the Hat Yai wings, side of Tau Hi Tod (fried tofu)the Khao Tom Gai which is basically a chicken rice porridge. They will also ask if you want hot sauce on the side - which I did not realize was $1.45 extra. This was not disclosed and I would not have gotten it if I knew. I will say that the chicken itself was crunchy and juicy and the rice was flavorful from being cooked in chicken broth. My friend's porridge was a little too salty and it needed more texture so it went perfectly with the fried chicken skin. The fried tofu fish was hot and crispy but had an odd flavor. It was not quite Chinese five spice flavor but somewhat similar? Description said "spicy salt" Overall I wasn't super impressed but none of us were in the mood for the Khao Mu Gai (the original) that time so maybe the ginger scallion sauce will change my mind. Also the bar sounds like it's worth trying out too so I'll be holding out hope!

First time at this establishment. Clean very cute restaurant. Was totally loving it until I got into my chicken thigh that was under cooked. I took back up they apologized and offer to remake it. Undercooked chicken is a deal breaker for me and after that my appetite was gone.

Finally tried this place after seeing it all over my Instagram feed. I ordered the Hat Yai chicken and fries. You get a ton of chicken with the Hat Yai. It was very filling. I had a couple bites of rice, and it was pretty good too. The fries were okay, though I probably wouldn't get them again. I wasn't a fan of any of the sauces I tried. I think they were all a little too sweet for me, even the habanero, which I wasn't expecting. It sounds like I need to try the ginger scallion, so that's on my list for next time! It was very busy when I went, and everyone was still super nice and helpful! Service was excellent. Happy to have this place close by; it's a great addition outside of Portland.

The GOOD - great healthy food option if you go for the boiled chicken - I like how you can customize which part of the chicken you want (breast, thigh, or both) - sauces were flavorful (favorite was the ginger) - the Hat Yai chicken was fresh, crispy, hot, and juicy WOULD GET AGAIN - rice was seasoned - you get a cup of soup on the side too! Overall a good experience. Simple dishes but well executed. Prices and wait times were reasonable. Modern designed restaurant with a bar attached. This place would be a solid choice after the gym if you want a HOMEY and filling meal.

[ My honest experience with this restaurant] Sep 3rd 2025, ordered around 5pm. I drove all the way to the store as I wanted to experience the whole process, as this is my first time try the food at this location. Right from the start - bad service, no smily no hi hello, nothing. All just staring. All good! Once my order finished, the lady in the front was giving me 2 cups of thai milk tea and a thin paper bag for 2 orders with soup, with no handle. I asked if they had some kind of bag or drink container for the drinks and the lady was just straight up say no. Thought to myself, weird - you're selling drinks, soups but no nothing to keep them. And what's up with the attitude - thought maybe i forgot to tip but pretty sure I did. Not think much rather than a bit unhappy (cause im small and had to carry a lot), i drove home. When taking the orders out of my car - holy moly my car was soaking with the soup inside the paper bag and on the front seat. At this point the bag was pretty bad, it ripped and my food fell out. Here we go to no more food. Disappointed in the packaging, I called the restaurant. Pretty sure the lady that was helped me in the front picked up the phone, I explained the situation and she said no, can't redo anything. They said its not their faults that the soup spilled, bag ripped and food felt. The only thing they can do is giving me the soup - but I have to drive all the way back. Oh and here's what the lady said 'We packed it good, if it's spilled, well i won't and can't but if it did then I can give you only the soup. Oh, you won't come back for the soup? Well guess what, if it's a whole order redo you would come back right? Oh so that's why, we can only do soup' The way the lady treated me was rude, I bought the food with my own money, even tipped them for a take out order and now wasted a whole bag of food just because their packaging was bad? To be honest, the whole situation could have been different if they did a better job in securing the soup or having it in different bag. Perhaps this is just a bad experience for me but honestly I don't know how it could be better with the service I was getting. Go to Nong Khai Man Gao or somewhere else. Definitely not coming back!

Come and chill! Have a drink and relax! I mean, it's in the name, right? Right behind Rooster & Rice is this hidden little bar called Bar Sabai. Well, maybe not hidden, but definitely separated. If I wasn't hungry but wanted a cocktail drink or glass of wine, I could come here since they've got their own separate entrance. Or I can place a food order at the bar, and they'll deliver it over in a to-go container. Thus far, this place has a standard yet modern look to it with beers on tap, wines, saké, and signature cocktails. Averaging between $9 to $14. Although I wanted to try their signature drinks, I got caught staring at their saké collection instead. Bartender James hooked up the first shot, and I was on my way to opening up my pallet for some food. I enjoyed the Sasaiwai "Bamboo Celebration" that I bought the whole bottle for myself. I mean, why not? It was their grand opening! Cool-hand James also hooked up the ladies with their drinks, and they were content with enjoyment! I might add, the bar did have a big screen on the side, but could have used a couple more above the bar itself. But not a big deal as this place did just open up. Regardless, the service was friendly and helpful. And the R&R bites and drinks were excellent. Ironic: "R&R" and "Sabai Sabai" meaning to relax or to feel good! Queue the music! Feels Good, Tony! Toni! Toné! Okay, I'm being stupid... I'll be back!!!

Hat Yat chicken at the back, original khao man gai at the front
    Frank C.

Very excited when I found out a khao man gai place is opening up on the west side. A friend went to their soft opening, said it was great and invited me to join for lunch the day after. I came in hungry, so I thought I would have the original + some wings for sides. Thought the wings were a little pricy, but I really wanted some, then of course I found out it's an entree . The original is what I imagined it to be, chicken is juicy and a bit bland, but pairs perfectly with the sauce. The hai yat chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the rice it came with wasn't plain rice, but it is delicious. The decor is nice and modern, the staff are friendly, I will certainly come back.

Great spot with not one but two in one with food up front and bar in back!!! Great cocktails to boot and staff were all friendly, attentive and very accommodating!! Food....Exceeded expectations!!! If chicken is what you want this is the spot for all things chicken!! Sooo good and definitely one of my top ten!! Juicy hot fresh and deliciousness!! Please go support and definitely a must try!!

My daughter was home for Christmas break and she saw Rooster and Rice on Tik Tok so our family decided to go. There was ample seating and the staff were pleasant and helpful. We ordered 3 originals, 2 with poached eggs, a Riceless with a poached egg and larb popcorn chicken to be shared among the table. We waited about 10 minutes and our food came out. Portions were good but we all wished the chicken came out hot, vs room temperature/cold. The other thing was the poached egg, they were about 60 seconds UNDERcooked, just a little raw-runny for the three that ordered the poached eggs with their entre. The good - the sauces were flavorful, the chicken tender and the larb popcorn chicken a 10/10 - the fresh cucumber and shredded carrots were a great accompaniment.

My default is the Buddha's Delight with chicken and house-made garlic sauce. It's basically a steam/stir fry loaded with a medley of fresh veggies including broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, cabbage and a balanced proportion of white meat chicken. It's a very good sized plate of food and enough for me to take home some leftovers. My husband enjoys their yellow curry with tofu, potato, onion and medium-spicy, creamy sauce. White jasmine rice comes with the dishes, brown is $1 extra. We also like the fresh salad rolls with prawns, lots of crunchy greens, herbs and sides of chili sauce and a yummy peanut sauce. The restaurant can feel a bit crowded and noisy during peak times. The service varies from average to good and the food comes out pretty quickly. One thing that really needs mentioning is that the run-down building exterior and weedy, unkempt landscape have been very poorly maintained to the point that I think this could reflect negatively on an, otherwise, very good restaurant. I could see this being a real turn-off to someone unfamiliar with the positive qualities of the place. Hope they consider putting some time and energy into improving this.

Amazing Thai Food, and service. Highly recommended…read more This place has been a regular go-to for at least once a month for my boyfriend and I. We like to order takeout from this place mostly, but on occasions we choose to dine in to further enjoy the scenery of the place. I am Thai myself so this place does a pretty decent job at making me feel like I'm at home again every time I order their food from here or if I show up to eat at the place. The most recent time I ate from them was February 8th, actually, at 3:00pm a little bit after a rush hour or when it was about to end, so I feel like maybe I ordered at a good time. Still, I had a good experience and a nostalgic feeling with every bite that went down. Their menu is pretty well designed, easy to read, well-laid out and self explanatory. The people always greet you kindly and make you feel welcomed which I think is pretty cool too. The pricing is very much debatable. When I say that, I mean that the price number may shock you while you're reading the menu, but that is until you start eating your dish that you ordered and thought it was "expensive" you realize you almost always need to loosen up your pants after we're done eating like my boyfriend, or you need to bother the waitress for a big to go box after already eating the best you could. Almost every single time, that has happened to us and we laugh about it every single time. We usually order the Sweet Sausage Fried Rice and Pad See Ew with chicken. My boyfriend is a big fan of the sweet sausage fried rice, he is a big fried rice lover already and has had sweet sausage before but never together in fried rice so this menu intrigued him the first time he read the menu and saw it as an option. After he tried it, he never stopped going back for more. I, on the other hand like their Pad See Ew much more because I grew up with homemade fried rice a lot so making it myself wasn't a big deal, but stir fried noodles that was something my family would always go out of their way to dine at or order take out from and they would try to top one another which restaurant they thought was better and why (e.g. more meat, more noodles, looks prettier, worth the money more, it's an award-winning, michelin star winning, franchised by this celebrity from this movie, etc.. you name it) so finding good stir fried flat rice noodles was a hit and miss for my family so eating really good stir fried noodles that I found in the US near the comfort of my home really made me feel good. Their service was exceptional, really. Online and in store, really good. When we were dining in at one point, my boyfriend who is a picky eater due to sensory issues, wanted no onions, tomatoes, and some other things in his fried rice I can't remember too sure. But, I tried speaking Thai to the waitress since her appearance seems to be Thai as well, and sure enough she was Thai too and she was really sweet and helped accommodate me and my boyfriend to suit our preferences the entire time. We also tried ordering Pink Milk too which is a childhood refreshing summer drink of mine which really just consists of Ice, Milk, and Hale Blue Boy Red Syrup but it tastes sweet and smells like strawberry and hits the spot really well on a hot day, and that's exactly what it tasted like. We both loved the drink, we almost wanted to order another one, actually. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try new foods, is interested in asian, southeast asian cuisine, or even just seafood and other food combinations with it. No need for studying the culture or menu, the people are very welcome to people who don't know anything about Thailand or Thai food at all. I recommend showing up at happy hours too, if you can. They have good deals and discounts on food and all kinds of beverages. Definitely worth the money, can seem like a little bit up there if it's your first time or you just don't eat there too often. Very flexible with accommodations in person and especially, also upfront about additional charges for additions to your menu item. An experience worth paying for from time to time, in my opinion.
