I was really torn between giving this a two star or three. I ordered their Special bahn mi. Bahn mi's are harder to screw up. Honestly I liked my bahn mi. For a good price they stack it too. And I like their bread. It was soft. My bf and our friend ordered the pho - after all, it's what this place is known for. Both were highly disappointed. I got to try some too and felt the same. The broth is not flavorful enough. Also, my bf and friend's pho bowls were not HOT when they came out. Their meat couldn't cook in it the way it's supposed to. Their pho was warm. Not hot enough though. To be fair I guess, they waived a $3 charge (?!?!) for an extra bowl of hotter broth they could use to cook their meat in. There were a few things wrong with their pho: 1. Not hot enough for meat to cook in 2. Not enough flavor in their broth 3. TOO OILY!! There is a visible layer of oils on the top of the bowl. This is never supposed to happen with pho. 3. They put pepper in it (??!?!). Instead of trying to use the pepper to bring out the taste in the broth, make better broth.. As a Californian it's hard for me to trust that pho will be good anywhere outside of a major city. This held true for this place unfortunately. I'd say, if you know what good authentic pho tastes like, you won't like their pho here. Get a bahn mi instead. To end on a more positive note, their Vietnamese iced coffee was pretty up to par. read more

Pho Lang Thang - Vietnamese Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

I came to Cincinnati from Minneapolis three years ago. The twin cities are teeming with Vietnamese restaurants, and it quickly became some of my favorite food ever. I went through withdrawls when I moved to Cincinnati before discovering Song Long (also great). The flavors are bright and clean, and it's even sort of good for you. On to Pho Lang Thang. Their bun (rice vermicelli noodle salad), which is one of my favorite dishes of all times is great. A good bun is noodles, shredded romaine lettuce, cucumber, maybe bean sprouts, your chosen protein/meat, and most importantly: pickled carrot & daikon, and fresh cilantro & basil. Pho Lang Thang's does. Perfection. If I had to complain, and really I have to try, I'd say it could go a little heavier on the vegetables than noodles, but it's a tiny shift. What may well be my new favorite thing ever: Bahn Mi. Not previously available in Cincinnati, this is a heavenly sandwich. Lemongrass marinated meat (beef, my favorite, chicken, pork or fried tofu), cucumber, the pickled carrot & daikon, cilantro, garlic mayo, on the best baguette you've ever had. My laid back boyfriend has talked about it nearly non-stop since we first went last Thursday, back on Saturday, back on Sunday, and again, back today on Tuesday. Seriously. It's just that good. Love the staff. Always friendly and helpful. I love supporting independant places, and this gets a bonus for it being three young guys starting it up. You might have to wait a few minutes, but it's seriously worth it. They're deservingly busy. read more

Pho Lang Thang - The amazing bun - Vietnamese Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

I wasn't bowled over by the vegetarian Banh Mi because it was a bit like grazing the garden...just didn't have a finished or composed feel to it. However, I've tried the vegetarian Pho now. I got the small size and it was still quite large. I recommend this option. The tofu is completely flaccid and flavorless which I find a bit unfortunate. The meat options come with flavored meat. There isn't much to the broth and the noodle are uncooked. However, when I put in the lime, jalapenos, thai basil and cilantro, it developed good flavor. Still, the mushrooms were uncooked as well and it initially just seemed like someone added plain noodles and water to an herb salad. I liked it and it was filling, however, I just feel like the vegetarian options aren't thought through or fully developed. It's just some raw stuff dumped in and you are left at the table trying to save the dish with some flavor that you find around you. The coffee was delicious, though I think I'd go with a good bit less sweetened condensed milk, or just ask for it without that altogether. read more

Oh Banh Mi, you've finally arrived in Cincinnati! The Vietnamese/French hybrid hoagie made with a baguette roll, meat (shrimp, pork, beef, pate, chicken, shrimp etc) and carrots, daikon, cilantro has been hard to come by round these parts, but finally, an authentic Vietnamese place that offers this amazing sandwich every day is here. I was fortunate to attend a friends and family party of Pho Lang Thang (they won't be open to the public till mid-november) and all I can say is that this is going to be a weekly stop for me. Everything is fresh, authentic and tastes amazing. Besides the Banh Mi, they also have Pho (duh, its in the name), Bun (vermicelli rice noodles), Cha Gio (spring rolls) and Com tam (broken rice). Im not even going to attempt to get all the accent marks right. Not only is all the food great, but the prices are super affordable, with nothing over $7! (that I can remember) The service was friendly and accommodating, offering suggestions of menu items if you weren't sure what to get. The space is one of the biggest in Findlay Market, taking up 2 storefronts, bright, and has a really cool custom built bar table. There will also be a giant wall mural of photos of Vietnam on the back wall, once its finished. No knock on ay other vietnamese places in town, but Pho Lang Thang just knocks everything out of the park completely. 5 stars. read more

We came here for the bun bowls and desk spring rolls on a winter evening. The place is located in Findlay Market. It definitely smelled like a Vietnamese joint (aka you'll walk out and your clothes will smell of the grill) although it wasn't run by Vietnamese people when we were there. The food was closer to actual Vietnamese compared to Cilantro near UC. The rolls are 2 rolls an order and are decent sized. Sauce is ok. The bun bowls are ok. Wish they had more veggies in it and some salt at the table because the nuoc mam (fish sauce) didn't season the bowl too well. Overall decent place for Vietnamese food, at least the bun. read more

The first place I experienced Vietnamese food and one of my all time favorites! This place is hard to beat. I usually start with spring rolls and then finish off with the chicken Bun( not sure of the spelling) or the noodles salad and then enjoy an iced coffee to-go! Sometimes I'll opt for the Pho. Either is amazingly flavorful and so fresh! I certainly never feel bad for cleaning my plate but I usually leave with a little snack for later. Service is always attentive even when they are lined out the door. I have no complaints and will continue going back to this joint as much as I possibly can! read more

The wife and I were walking around Findlay Market on a Saturday afternoon. It was a little after 1pm and we were hungry. We both had a taste for pho and spied Pho Lang Thang. The place was packed and there was an estimated 45 min. wait. Not deterred, we gave the host our name and number and waited for a text saying our table was ready. We got the text a little shy of the estimated time and were promptly seated. Compared to comparable Vietnamese joints I've been to on both the East and West coasts, prices seemed quite a bit higher than I was used to seeing for pho and banh mi. I ordered the medium Pho Bo Dac Biet (rare steak, meatballs, brisket, tendon and tripe) which only came in medium, $11, or large, $13.50. The wife ordered the small Pho Bo Nam (brisket) for $7.95. We also decided to split an order of the Banh Mi Dac Biet ($6.50). Our food came out quickly. My medium pho was a goodly-sized bowl comparable to the large bowls I've had at other pho joints. It contained a generous amount of meat and rice noodles. The noodles seemed to have been freshly boiled, not pre-cooked, portioned, and then refrigerated, as they weren't still cold, glutinous, and stuck together in the bottom of the bowl cooling down the hot broth. Most importantly, the broth was beefy and fragrant with the desired pho spices. In truth, it was one of the best looking and tasting bowls of pho I've ever had. The classic banh mi was also good-sized with a reasonable amount of sliced barbecue pork, pork sausage, headcheese, and pâté. The cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno (available upon request) were brightly colored and appropriately fresh. The pickled carrots and daikon added a nice textural crunch and acidity. The excellent ingredients were matched by a fresh Vietnamese-style baguette that was nicely crusty yet soft, chewy, and airy in the middle. It was as good of banh mi that I've encountered. Service throughout our meal was solid. I'm glad that we found Pho Lang Thang. Not that there's a lot of competition for pho in Cincinnati, but Pho Lang Thang will be my go-to place to get my pho fix when I'm in town. As good as it was, the price for a bowl of pho still seemed a bit steep by a dollar or two and the banh mi by $.50-1.00. That said, it was still at a price I'd be willing to pay given the quality and amount of food received. 5 star food...minus one star due to pricing. read more

I'm kicking this one up a notch, if only for the deliciousness that is the banh mi thit nuong with pork: Seriously good, and I can't wait to get another one. The wife is a bun (vermicelli bowl) aficionada and has eaten the stuff all over the U.S. (and even in Paris). She ranked this Pho Lang Thang bowl as being top-notch. I tried it, and I agree! Service seems to have gotten smoother. No complaints to speak of on this last visit, and everybody was super-friendly. The pho broth is still a bit of a problem, though. It seemed even blander than the first time. (More beef stock needed?!) The ventilation problem apparently is an issue that's not going away anytime soon, either. No matter where you're sitting, your clothes for the rest of the day are going to smell like you were at the Vietnamese equivalent of a Waffle House. Overall, though, a great addition to the city. read more

Pho Land Thang is 'doin' the damn thang!'. Amazing pho, best in town. Small space so I wouldn't recommend going with a big group. Every time I have gone I have had to wait for a table. I don't mind the wait- it is right in the heart of Findlay Market and there is plenty to do/see while you wait. I just wouldn't go if you were in a hurry. In the summer they put tables outside which helps with the seating situation. But I prefer to go in the cooler months, nothing better than some warm Pho on a cold day. Last time I was there I got the 'PH BÒ' (beef soup). I slurped up every. last. drop. YUM! read more

Okay, here's an example of where I think you have to be a bit cultured to give a reliable review. "This is THE BEST pho I've ever had!" doesn't really mean much if you've only had it a handful of times in your life, right? Coming from a city where the Vietnamese restaurant scene is always booming and the pho competition is very strong, I think to myself--would this place survive in my city? Probably not. Does this place have potential in Cincinnati? Of course! For lunch, I ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee and a small bowl of pho. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee should be stronger and there should be more condensed milk. The pho was okay at best--the broth is bland and there isn't much meat. On my next visit, I'll venture out and try a vermicelli dish. Great location to people watch--come here for the hip vibe, the quick service, and to satisfy your Vietnamese food fix. read more

Love the location. Love the Pho! Love that I see someone I know every time I go! Love the diversity this place brings to Findlay Love that you can get alcoholic Vietnamese beverages here. I love that they have an area outside to eat. (The wait for outside is a longer wait on the weekends) This isn't the best Vietnamese food I've had but it will do in a pinch. I think they break foodie rule number 1 and it shows in the final product. They have a diverse cast of employees which is great but this aint a family recipe kind of joint. Its more modern/fusionist. (I think I just made that up) Anyway, its a great respite when your spending hours walking around the market. The menu is pretty interesting and the appetizers are unique. You should stop by....It's worth a check-in. Not so humbly submitted, King Michael C. read more

I was really excited about this place after reading amazing reviews on yelp. But...ehhhhhhhh, not worth the hype or the wait time. After waiting 45 minutes, we were seated in a cute little nook. The server was friendly, and fairly prompt, but the host seemed flustered the entire time, running around like a chicken without a head. Made me a bit nervous, to be honest. Anyway, on to the important stuff: We started with an order of goi cuon, my first measure of a decent Vietnamese restaurant. Let me say here that not only do I scour the country for good Vietnamese restaurants, but also grew up with parents from Vietnam, so I have high expectations of Vietnamese food. The sauce was standard, but the rice paper was so chewy, I had a hard time enjoying the rolls. Gotta work on dipping those rice papers just right! We then got banh mi dac biet, and pho dac biet. The banh mi was bland. I wish they mixed their mayo with nuoc nam or shoyu because that sandwich was seriously lacking in seasoning. It smelled like they roast their own pork (the whole place smelled of it), but it was dry. The pho had such a bland soup, bleh. It probably ranks in the top ten worst pho broths I've ever tasted. The tripe was tender and the meatball was flavorful though, so there was a slight saving grace. Overall, won't come back and I don't recommend this place as a good Vietnamese restaurant. Here's my tip: save yourself time and go to the market across the street for some awesome food. read more

Oh my god the food was DELICIOUS and Allie was the best thing about the place, she was the heart and soul of the experience!!!

A good spin on the Vietnamese pho - the broth is very rich and flavorful, and for those of you who love pho, you know that is what makes or breaks a great pho. For those looking for a more traditional take on the pho, you may find the broth a bit heavy and oily - personally I am more used to a more clear and light broth. I felt the noodles were right on point and not too chewy or underdone. I love tendon with my pho, and they were able to nail it - not too chewy. We also ordered the summer rolls which I felt were done very well - the skin of the outside nice and thin. Having spent much time in Asia including many pho noodle joins in Vietnam, I am used to the 'local Asian noodle shop' environment, however I can see how some may feel there is cleanliness issues at the restaurant, including dust on lighting and dirtier floors. Didn't bother me, but I can see some people being put off by that. Only other downside is that this place gets really busy during lunch time so you may not get the get the best attention during the visit. For me, it was the traditional basil, bean sprouts, and lime - it did not come out with the pho and I had to wait sometime before I had to ask the waiter to bring it over. Overall, this place is worth the visit while in Findlay market. Not sure about the +1 hour waits during peak times - but I guess it's a good reason to explore the market whiles waiting for your seat. read more

This is what a restaurant should be - genuine, authentic, local and delicious. Okay, do I know enough about Vietnamese food to assert it is genuine and authentic? Probably not. Maybe what grabbed me about the food was the freshness of the ingredients. Given the restaurant is smack dab in the middle of Findlay Market, I would expect nothing but fresh, fresh, fresh. I definitely tasted the FRESH. The Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk was delicious. I don't think anyone could really screw this one up. YUM! The Goi Cuon tasted as if the ingredients had just been pulled from the garden. The Bun Chay, a fried tofu dish, was very tasty. The mushroom sauce mixed well with the vegetables and fresh herbs. Others at the table ordered the Pho Bo. The couldn't rave about it enough. You are welcome to bring your own bottle. If you forget to bring something, hop on down to Market Wines and pick up a bottle or a brew. The two establishments work well together. In fact Jessica, who helped us choose just the right wine later stopped in to Pho Lang Thang for take out. Finally, the price is RIGHT! I mean, it's darn right inexpensive. I'll be back and if future visits are this good, I will most likely increase my rating from four to five stars, but after my first visit... Yay! I'm a fan! read more

I've been a couple of times now and while their food is just awesome there was something I really needed to mention. Every time I go there are fruit flies that make my visit annoying. I'm trying to enjoy the amazing food but I have to constantly swing here and there to make sure the flies don't land on my food. I get that flies can get in your restaurant but the problem is that they are there every time I go. read more

Very disappointed with quality and lack of flavor. Came here on a Saturday morning. Surprisingly no wait. Sat down quickly and order with my friend. I started with Vietnamese coffee was condense milk. Legit and no complaints. We shared the fried spring rolls. It was incredibly salty. I personally like my food savory yet was surprised by level of salty ness. My friend agreed and we both have to wash it down with water. I got the pho with rare beef it did came with good amount of garnish. However, it was less than 4 piece of beef which was over cooked and dried. I was disappointed also with overly oily broth that didn't not obtain any flavor at all. I had to discard layers of it before I tried it but couldn't even finish most of my pho at the end because it was too much. Our waiter came was super busy and came by the table to ask how it was. I complaint with disappointment and he said he will talk to the chef about it. At the end he told most of the meal charge away to apologize. Hence the additional star per my review today. Would not come back for it. Would recommend more authentic pho place elsewhere. read more

Well, I guess third time is a charm. And fourth, fifth, etc.... As I went to Pho Lang Thang for my third (and what I thought might be my final) time, I was weary and hoping for me previous terrible experiences to be forgotten. And finally, this trip (and successive trips), have been quite satisfactory. I had better service, the pho was tastey and flavorful, and I enjoyed my visit. I even spoke with one of the owners, and he admittedly acknowledged the less than stellar start they had. It means a lot to me for them to acknowledge their mistakes, and try to fix them. I've also been a few times since, and the food has been consistent. So, give it a try, and come home with some smelly clothes! read more

Pho Lang Thang has been on my list of foods to try at Findlay for a while, and I'm glad I finally made it here. I generally gravitate toward Fresh Table, and I was somewhat turned off by how busy they always were. But I was pleasantly surprised that even on a Saturday they were packed that I was quickly seated and was given prompt service. Nice. I had the Dac Biet Pho. It was quite tasty. Not the best Pho I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. The 20 hour beef broth was the star of the dish; a little on the oily side but excellent. Bean sprouts, cilantro, basil, and jalopenos were served prior to the dish as a 'salad' - somewhat unusual since I wouldn't generally eat these ingredients separately, and threw them in the pho when it arrived. All ingredients in the pho were great. On the recommendation from my server I got a medium as opposed to a large - the medium was huge and definitely enough, I'm not sure how big the large is! The person I was with ordered the Bun Ga Nuong (Grilled Chicken Noodle Salad). I tried some and to be honest it was better than the pho I ordered! Chicken was seasoned great, and everything blended together perfectly! It came with 4 spring rolls and sauce which tasted wonderful. If I come back here, I'm ordering this! I was really close to giving Pho Lang Thang 5 stars, but I feel that the seating is somewhat cramped, it is always busy, and I've had better pho in other cities. But probably the best place to get pho in Cincinnati! I'll be coming back again read more

I've come to realize that this is my favorite restaurant since moving to Cincinnati. More than the Eagle, Senate and even Boca. Although I love the former, this place is pretty legit. I was wary at first given that I was eating pho at least 1x/week in Southern California, where we have the highest population of Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam. But this place holds its own against some of my all time favorites. Sure, their pho is incredible. But really, that should be expected. The real star to me here was the chicken bahn mi. What's usually dry and underwhelming was moist and delectable. I'm kind of bummed that they don't serve Vietnamese crepes here, or anywhere else I've found in Cincinnati. I'm pretty sure they would do a great job considering their execution of everything else I've tasted. All in all, I'd definitely give this place a shot. Continuing on with my "Ladies who Lunch" brought me to Pho Lang Thang this past week. I was already a fan right from the start when I found Pho and it was an actual sit down cafe. Definitely a welcome addition to Findlay Market. Plenty of seating at our lunch and a friendly host who sat us right away. Not being knowledgeable at all about Pho, my server walked me through the menu and when I was ogling the other tables food, he pointed out which dish they were eating, so I could order appropriately. Plenty of beef, chicken, or veggie options! Food was fresh, piping hot, and of course delicious! I felt they just chopped my veggies and grilled my meat right before serving. No pre portioned food here!! I fell in love with their peanut sauce and wanted to drizzle it on everything that I ordered. So after my dynamite lunch that left me wanting more, I got the bill and was blown away that I could fill up this much for this little. What an awesomely delicious addition to Findlay Market!! I came in here for lunch on Small Business Saturday. Super busy but fast and tasty! There was a 50 minute wait for this on Saturday so I browsed Findlay while waiting. They use a text-based notifying app to let you know when a table is ready. I had been wanting to try this place since everyone raves about it! I opted for the rare streak pho and an iced coffee with milk. Technically they messed up my pho order but fixed it really quick. It came with a heaping pile of bean sprouts, peppers, cilantro and other things to add to the broth. It was light and refreshing. I order a small for $6 and it was plenty; so many noodles! The coffee was drip based and great. I also loved the atmosphere. Even though it was very hot and humid inside, everyone was friendly and happy to be there--both workers and customers! I'll definitely be going back to try a sandwich. read more

Pho Lang Thang was not my introduction to Pho. I had set the bar high with Pho from Vietnam Kitchen down near Louisville, Kentucky. It was truly authentic. I had spent a long time since that meal in Cincinnati trying to find another Pho that could hold a candle to the one from Vietnam Kitchen. There are not a ton of options around these parts. I have tried iPho and Pho-96 and both are good, but when i saw this place on a visit to Findlay Market, I figured it was worth a try. Let me just say that is now my new favorite place for Pho! I just wish it was closer to my home so that I could frequent it more often! The bowl of Pho is almost as big as my head! All of the sides: lime, Thai basil, bean sprouts and jalapeno slices were very fresh and full of flavor, but the broth is what really sets it above the others. The beef broth is rich and fragrant, spicy and comforting. It is cooked in the traditional way, for probably 10-12 hours and contains oxtail and traditional spices. To do it proper in my book, add some sriracha and Hoisin Sauce to your bowl. A little warning though if you have never had Pho...you will mainly eat the rice noodles and veggies first with chopsticks and be left with the broth soup to finish. If you add sriracha to the already jalapeno steeped broth, you run the chance of making it toxic spicy and your forehead will sweat and your eyes will water. I happen to LIKE that part of the experience though (the same reason I irrationally enjoy the near choking feeling from eating wasabi) and so always make it way spicier than common sense should allow. Pho Lang Thang is definitely worth experiencing. I can't speak to the other menu options as I always get the same thing, but i feel like the prices are fair and the portions are filling and if they would franchise out and add some more locations across the city that would be amazing! read more

Who would have thought that Vietnamese fast food can be so nutritious and filling. During my first visit to Cincy, it came up as one of the highly rated restaurants in the city for southeast asian food. It was a pleasant surprise to find the location was in an oasis called the Findley Market. We were there at 2 PM and still there was a wait of 20 minutes. They take your cellphone number and call you when they are ready, simple but innovative. Once we got the table, waitress was fast to attend us and the orders arrived quickly too. My food was very good and chugged it down very fast. I liked that their options are limited but whatever they have is very good. I wanted to have vegetarian rolls and they ran out of it. As soon as it was available again, waitress came and asked me! I think that is more personal service than many Cheesecake factories I have been to. read more

Last Thursday was the perfect pho day - cold and rainy, truly fall weather after this amazing Indian summer we've been having. So, having never tried PLT, I thought I would take a walk down the hill and check them out. I met my mother there, who was able to fit in a long lunch break from work. After all the amazing feedback for this place, I was really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, I was a little less than impressed. First of all, while they weren't as packed as I thought they might be, the place was absolutely cacophonous - it was hard to hear the waitress, let alone have a conversation at my own table. Additionally, though the smell was delicious, it was strong and seeped into your clothes, which was fine by me (I'd already changed out of my work clothes), but I'll know better for the future. Anyways, how about the food? I went with the Pho French Dip (add cucumber) because I was torn between wanting soup and a solid sandwich, so having that sandwich and the "side" of pho jus was the perfect middle ground. My mom got two spring rolls, and a bowl of chicken pho. The spring rolls came with a really rich peanut sauce, that I personally thought was a little overbearing, but it wasn't mine to eat so not my problem! She was very happy with her green tea, spring rolls, and soup, and I appreciated the large amount of accompaniments they bring out with the pho (jalapenos, lemongrass, and sprouts). Unfortunately, my sandwich was a little less satisfying - The bread was pretty good, the meat was okay, and the pho jus was amazing, but other than the pho there wasn't a lot of flavor. It came across as very dry, kind of boring, and I don't think I would return for this sandwich in the future. Now maybe it's my fault for ordering the sandwich at the soup spot, but a good banh mi should be a staple at ANY Vietnamese restaurant, and they definitely fell short here. The service was good, food came quickly, and the noise did die down towards the end of our visit. As a whole, it just was a bit of a let down... to be honest, I'd rather have CIlantro. read more

I attended Pho Lang Thang with a group of six. Largely we ordered different dishes and shared around a bit. I always enjoy that aspect of meeting up with people. On a previous visit I had ordered some Pho, and they had been out of both the steak and the brisket, so I was left with chicken really. But it had been a festival day at Findlay Market (where the establishment is located) and busier than usual. This trip I ordered one of the salads. Similar to their Pho, but without the broth, my salad was phenomenal! The meat was warm and flavorful, the noodles were delicious and the veggies and "broth" dressing were well manicured to the palate of the dish. My table-mates had Pho, Ban Mhi (sandwich?) and some form of a sampler I believe, and all were very happy with their selections! If you're on the hunt for some good noodles, and happen to be anywhere near OTR, definitely check out Pho Lang Thang! You won't regret it! read more
