Usually it's hard to convince me to get pho from anywhere other than the place right across the street from my apartment. But, on special occasions, we drive to pho, and this is where we go. I'm not a pho expert by any means, and I haven't tried too many places in Edmonton, but this is my favourite so far. I much prefer their pho over their vermicelli bowls, but those aren't too bad either. The service is fast and friendly, and it always seems to be pretty busy when I go. People are in and out fairly quickly though, so I've never had to wait for a table. read more

Note: prices have gone up for pho. $9 for L, $8 for small. Now that the Superstore has opened right next to it, going to Pho Hoan Pasteur for dinner right before doing groceries has become the yummy norm. After ordering my favourite #14 pho (or maybe it was 13 - whichever one has the brisket and crunchy) the last few times (sometimes you get more brisket, sometimes more tendon and crunchy, but always excellent resilient noodles), I decided to try something new that I'd been eyeing for a while - bun bo hue, which is supposed to be a spicy lemongrass broth beef noodle soup. I love spicy and I love lemongrass, and bun-type noodles are my favourite! As usual, service was super fast. Since this was the first time I'd ever eaten this dish, I wouldn't be able to tell you how authentic it was, but it was pretty good! A good kick of spice - nice droplets of red fat/oil on the surface of the soup. The lemongrass taste was not as pronounced as I thought it was going to be, but still really nice. Noticeably more cilantro (taste-wise from the garnish) than in their pho - really brightens up the soup. There was a slight pungent taste that I associate with fish sauce - not overwhelming at all - a nice complement. The meat was beef brisket - a little bit fatty, just the way I like it, plus these Asian meatballs - I think they were pork with cilantro (love the resilient texture of them). You get all the usual garnishes plus some shredded red cabbage - yum. Overall, would order it again. read more

I've been here a few times and it never disappoints. Good food, good service good prices. I have even manged to turn a couple of "meat and potato" guys into fans. They'll even go without me. And that my friends says a lot! read more

They are known for their satay noodle bowl which is so flavorful. I ordered the bun vermicelli which has a variety of vegetables, plenty of meat and spring roll pieces. Don't take any jacket in with you if you can help it, they need better ventilation as your clothes can get pretty smelly afterwards. read more

Pho Hoan Pasteur has the decor and menu of a typical noodle house you would find in Chinatown, or pretty much anywhere else in the city. What sets this place apart is the freshness of the ingredients and especially the flavour. I had chicken pho ga and it was incredible. The broth was perfectly seasoned without being too greasy or salty. The all-white meat chicken tasted as though it had been cooked fresh for the soup. The other meal ordered at our table was a beef vermicelli bowl. A generous portion of noodles topped with pickled carrots, cucumbers and a heaping of freshly-grilled beef was both attractive and delicious. I've heard a few people rave about this place and had to experience it for myself - now I see why. I will be back, and often. read more

I was in the area and my options were essentially this, Pizza 73, and Quizno's, so I turned to my handy Yelp app and went here. And while I wasn't expecting it to be packed on a Saturday afternoon, sure enough it was so packed that I needed to take my food to go. Most of the people dining there were Vietnamese, but there were plenty of non-Vietnamese people eating there as well. The menu itself is fairly typical for a Pho place, despite the fact that Pho Hoan Pasteur calls itself a "fusion noodle house." While I had initially come to Pho Hoan Pasteur to eat its namesake dish, the necessity to take out made me want something a little less likely to spill in the bag. So I went for some sort of a hodgepodge noodle plate, which included "shredded pork," sausage, grilled shrimp, and a pork spring roll. The sausage and the shrimp had fantastic flavour - and you could really taste some well seasoned grilling on that shrimp. Despite claiming to come with vegetables, the plate only came with a little bit of shredded lettuce, some shredded carrots, some shredded cucumber, and some bean sprouts. I was expecting more veggies in the dish. All food tasted fresh and had the perfect amount of grease. I look forward to actually trying the Pho here sometime. read more

I have been here a handful of times and have had good experiences. I came here with a friend the other day to have some pho. I ordered the number 10 (beef brisket and meatballs) and it was delicious. The beef brisket was tender and the meatballs were juicy and the broth was flavourful. My friend ordered a vermicelli bowl and she also enjoyed her meal. Our order came fairly quickly with the exception of my Vietnamese coffee. For that reason and for the price, I would not recommend getting a Vietnamese coffee here. It was a rather small serving for the $4.50 that you pay for it. Other than that, my craving for a delicious pho on a cold day was fulfilled. read more

Excellent Spicy Seafood Pho and Five Color Vermicelli. Friendly, clean and well maintained restaurant. We'll be back!

My favorite Pho is Pho Tai Ve Don (Tai - raw beef, ve don - crunchy flank) Probably the ONLY pho joint I would go to in this city! It IS a Pho restaurant and if you're looking for a Vegetarian place they won't have to many options. Viet people don't have many vegetarian options unless you go to a buddist temple. Please don't blame the restaurant. Its a cultural thing....we aren't "creative" vegetarians read more

This restaurant is located near home so after my great experience with Lan's Asian Grill, I thought I should poke my head in here before grocery shopping. We were quickly seated and offered our menus and tea. The sign outside does say "Fusion", this does not reflect on the menu. Very traditional Vietnamese menu. Very diner-ish environment. Hubby ordered a 10 and I ordered a small Sate Pho. His order was correct, mine was large. Communication was unfortunately an issue. The meal came out quickly enough and the standard bean sprouts but with lemon and fresh mint. Hubby really enjoyed his Pho, he shared one of his meatballs with me and it was quite good. Mine had really great flavour as well, slightly sweet, a good balance of noodles and meat. After our orders were taken, that was the last we saw of our server. A different server brought our meals, and then there was no one. No refills offered, no one came by to check if we were enjoying our meal, no dishes cleared, no bill brought. After about 20 minutes of staring at one another and chatting, we went up to the counter to pay for our bill. The food was good enough that I will probably go back for takeout, but there is no sense going to a restaurant to eat if you are ignored after your food is delivered. read more

I've been going here for over a decade. There food is incredible. I pick up a large number 16 every Saturday. For the last two times I've picked up my order. The order has smaller amounts in the container. Years ago, the bowl container was 3/4 full of meet noodles, and everything else. But this year, I've been very disappointed. I got my home and the container was only 1/4 full, I thought, that's not very much for a large order. Than I picked up my order today. Very, very small amount of noodles. How much does it cost to fill up a bowl with noodles?how much do noodles cost? I will not be picking my soup from them anymore. Please raise the prices, or cut the portions, don't do both/ read more

I don't even remember how we found this place but glad we did! Not a huge fan of dining in as it is small, open, crowded and noisy but the food is great. First the pricing is good. The salad rolls are good. I have had better but these are good. The green onion cakes are awesome. I stick to the #1. It is soooo good. Anyways if you like Pho I would give this place a try read more

This is our favorite noodle house ever. We've been to almost all of them. and none have a comparable beef sate soup. This one is incredible and has kept us coming back for years. The broth is rich and flavourful, the beef is tender and delicious. It's pretty much one of our favorite foods of all time. We've had the vermicelli bowls, rice plates and milkshakes and they're all good too. The spicy seafood soup is also a favorite, but unfortunately I can't have both at once! As we were super hungry tonight, we tried the upgrade to extra large, and it sure was! Happy bellies here! It's always quick to seat and food comes quickly, however there aren't often checks to see how it is, or to clear dishes and you have to go to the front for your bill. The first few times we thought the service was bad, but they just leave you to it. On the plus side free tea as soon as you sit down. read more

Pho Hoan Pasteur - My favorite - Vietnamese Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

Fish sauce is so sweet. The food is ok. Not the best. I ordered 2 fried eggs and steam rice for my kid and they charged me $11.75 plus extra $1 for 1 egg. I questioned the server and she said a plate of steam rice and 1 egg cost 11.75 and the second egg is a $1. So basically 2 fried eggs cost $2. And a plate of steam rice costs 10.75. WTF. Am I wrong here? She argued w me that she is right. I get that u have to make money but that was stupidity. read more

Fantastic Pho and the rest of the menu is solid across the board. If you order the salad rolls add grilled pork to them. Feel free to thank me later, they are the best my go to appitzer. With regards to the Pho, I would place a safe bet that it ranks among the top in the city. You can get a large or a small bowl and they aren't skimpy on the meat you should be having bites of noodles and meat down to the last bite. I'm also a fan of their rice plates, you get good portion of meat to rice ratio and you'll leave full. Of all the locations the one on Kingsway is my favorite, for some reason I seem to feel the food is the best there. If you haven't been and enjoy vitienames food you'll get a full recommendation from me. Great food and good size portions at a reasonable price. Enjoy! read more

I don't understand why this place has such a high rating. I was on a trip in Edmonton and came to this place for dinner mostly because of its high rating on Yelp. I got there at around 7 and the place was pretty full. I sat down, ordered my Pho (house special), and waited for literally like 20 minutes with my table being empty except for the tea (they had pretty decent tea though). I was wondering why it took so long and raised my hand to ask. The lady saw me and probably realized that she forgot my order or something and quickly went back in the kitchen. She then got me the bean sprout like a normal Pho place would and went back in the kitchen. And then I realized that they use lemon instead of LIME for their Pho. That's when I got really disappointing and knew that this place is nothing special. And just as expected, my bowl of noodle came and it was ok in size, not the best though because I ordered the large for like $11 or something which was quite expensive compared to other places. It tasted average, the soup was pretty bad though as it lacked a lot of flavors in my opinion. Overall, there are definitely better options and this place in my opinion is very overrated. read more

Delicious! Been meaning to try this place for awhile now and it did not disappoint. Great variety of pho soups, vermicelli and rice dishes. The pho wasn't too salty and had a good amount of meat in it, which is nice because some places skimp on the meat and you're left with a bowl of soggy noodles. Our food came out super fast, less than 10 min I'd say. The small size for the pho is good if you tend to eat smaller portions. I also liked that they had small sauce dishes ready at the table, in case you need extra chili or hoisin sauce for dipping things like meatballs, which I love doing. The blended durian drink is also delicious, although I felt extremely drowsy afterwards from the amount of sugar. Worth it though! If you're not familiar with durian, it's a very sweet, pulpy/fleshy fruit with a VERY pungent smell that is not for the faint of heart. Seriously, you will smell this stuff on your breath for hours, if not the next day. The drink was cold, sweet and delicious, would be perfect for a hot summer day. This place is definitely getting added to my list of regulars! read more

The Beef Sate Pho was perfect. That peanut flavour in every bite. Meat sliced just right to be cooked to perfection by the hearty and warm broth. I haven't found it done so well anywhere else, even at their sister store. Service here matched the product. Last time I went in had 20 minutes to dine, start to finish. Even with a packed house during lunch they were able to accommodate my order and have me out the door with 2 minutes to spare. Well done! read more

3 stars for the pho. 2 stars for the rice and vermicelli dishes. 1 star for the tea. I've been here several times and I never learn. I always get a rice dish but they never live up to expectation. They are highly underwhelming. In fact, a couple times I've ordered the 5 colour vermicelli bowl that comes with beef, pork, chicken, shrimp and spring rolls. You get one shrimp... ummm can't get much cheaper than to give your customer one. shrimp. The tea is like nothing I've ever had. It has a strong rice flavour, like the tea had been brewing in rice. Is that how it's done in Vietnam? I've pretty much gotten used to it now, but always warn everyone when this restaurant comes up in conversation. So the moral of the story is, stick with the pho if you're looking for a 3 star restaurant. read more

This place has converted me from a pho fan to a pho addict. The best pho I've had out of my half a dozen experiences eating it. The downside, they don't serve alcohol and I love a fizzy beer with hot soup. Just a heads up, we came on Sunday at 12:30 and it was hopping. It continued to get busier and busier and by the time we left around 2, there was a line up outside. Tables were turning around fast, but it's a very popular place. read more

My wife and i have been going to this restaurant for years and ordered the same thing. No.15(special beef pho) and onion cake. Lately,we've noticed that the food quality has been declining..they forgot the meatballs in my soup and i had to remind them about our onion cake, the portions were also smaller.Anyway,we decided go give it another chance. Same thing they forgot to put meatballs in my beef pho. Also the onion cake was just sitting in oil. This time,i asked our server that they forgot my meatballs and also my issue with the onion cake. She looked at me all confused and walked out on me. I then realized that she probably did not understand what i was saying since another server came and asked me what the problem was. She then proceeded to tell me that they never put meatballs in their special beef pho. So i informed her that we've been dining here for years and for sure the soup has meatballs. She just said that i can request for meatballs for additional cost. She also did not change our onion cakes. Its still sitting there in oil. My wife and I decided to bring our business somewhere else. There should be a better Vietnamese restaurant in the city that is worth the drive. read more

One of my favorite places to have Pho. 1. Broth is clear and flavorful. Take a from a picky Pho eater. It is good. I like to get the #15 and like the option to get either big or small. 2. Vietnamese tea. It tastes different, not sure what it is but it is yummy. 3. Service at this location is better than the north side location. I like it. The food is great, it's fast good and cheap. Usually you can only have 2/3 but this place is wonderful. Only thing is I don't like is the washrooms, parking and you have to pay upfront. This is usually my go to place in Edmonton for pho (other than moms house), so I decided to bring to friends and share the goodness! Unfortunately our experiment wasn't that great. My friend ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee and she never got it (even though we checked on it at least twice). We asked for a take out box three times before we received it. On the bright side, we had two orders of green onion cakes, which did not disappoint. They were large and fluffy and crunchy goodness. My friends ordered pho and both enjoyed it. I ordered a rice noodle bowl and should of stuck to the pho. The rice noodles were all broken and the Vietnamese sausage lacked flavor. Despite the poor service, I will still bring friends here for green onion cakes and pho as you can't beat the taste anywhere else. read more

I am going to be the first person to give this a place a warm (comparatively, speaking) review. Don't get me wrong; I have been here quite a few times and every time, the place is clean looking, and the service is what you expect but the food for me doesn't stand out. If you have a big appetite, the regular size soup won't be enough without an appetizer. I saw a customer eat spring rolls at the next table over blotting out grease with a napkin. It could have been that they were oily or he was just crazy thinking that'll save him from caloric shock. I found the Bun Bo Hue to be pretty bland compared to outside places. The Beef noodle soup to be good but the broth lacked depth and flavor. The pork chop, rice, and egg plate to be the same as everywhere else. Just a lot of meh to me. My mother and I hold some sort of ambivalence about this place but my sister and father love it so it could be a matter of preference. Milkshakes and Vietnamese Coffee are a big thing for Vietnamese restaurants and they are hit and miss each time that I've tried it. read more
