Was feeling under the weather and Pho usually doe the trick for me when I'm on the road to recovery. So, I didn't want to deal with parking at other spots I tend to go to, and didn't want to drive too far. It's how I ended up here as it's not too far from home. Walked in to an empty restaurant. Had me feeling like I might need to head else where. Entire time I was there, a handful of takeout and one other diner, but it was really quiet. Dodger game (World Series) on that night. And though this place has a TV, the screen was dark. Being one of two people dining in, the service was excellent. Friendly but I wasn't too talkative (see first statement - not feeling well). Attentive as he was keeping tabs on me as I ordered my food in courses. Appetizer. Appetizer. Then Pho. I asked. He obliged. As for the good - I enjoyed it. The spring rolls weren't wrapped very tight but there was still a decent ratio of ingredients (not all lettuce). See pics. The chicken wings weren't dry which isn't my cup of tea. Used the accompanying sauces and I cleaned the bones bare. And the Pho - at first I thought the meat servings were on the stingy side. But they were just all submersed. Broth not too sweet and the only thing I will comment on is that I would have loved more onions. Something I'll ask for next time I'm in. Tried two beers I haven't tried before. 333 and Bia Saigon. Both very light and I'd have them again. Not strong, overpowering the appetizers or Pho. Like I mentioned already, it's not too far from home so I definitely can see me going back. Just hope it's not to help recover from being sick again.

Pho dac biet
Rosanna L.

My fiance has been raving about this place so when we were in the area, he recommended I give it a try. We ordered 2 large pho dac biet. The noodles arrived in less than 5 minutes piping hot. I gave the soup a try and WOW. The broth was so full of flavor. It had a clean sweet flavor that I enjoyed very much. The broth was more on the oily side, not what I'm used to in pho broth but maybe that's what made it so good. I recommend adding the bean sprouts only at the end so you don't dilute the broth flavor. Basil is ok. Service was minimal. We got water, our food and the bill. It's located in downtown El Segundo. Plenty of street and public parking. If I'm in the area, I'll definitely come again.

This is a small mom and pop Vietnamese pho restaurant on Main St. in El Segundo. It's a family shop that seems to have 3 generations working here from grandson to grandma. The service is good enough. It's fast and prompt. The pho broth was unique and a little sweeter than I'm used to. I liked it. I got the regular size, and at first it seemed like it would be too small. But there's actually a lot of meat and noodles and was surprisingly filling. This may be one of the only if not the only pho places in El Segundo, and I'd come back if I'm in the area and have a pho craving.

Reviews are mixed, but my experience was alright and Id give 3.8/5. The pho broth is on the sweeter side and had a lot of flavor, which I liked. The egg rolls were probably precooked or sitting under a heat lamp since it came out literally a minute after ordering. The noodles in the pho were pre-cooked and one big clump, but I was able to give it a few stirs, and it was good to go. Overall atmosphere is dated. It's old style mom and pop. There was a worker in there playing a game or watching a drama on his phone with the speaker at max volume, so it was so distracting and annoying. Very rude to customers trying to dine. Service was good. Orders taken promptly, and the grandma came over to check up and refill waters.

I orderd a BBQPork Buhn Mi Sandwich

Bun good, vegetables fresh. The pork was not the usual bbq pork. The pork was served piping hot with the cold vegetables. That was the first turn off. They skimped on all the vegetables (plenty of Cilantro. Cute place. Happened to be a couple of doors down from my first stop. Great location. The server/owner I couldn't really grasp his personality (David). Just under 10 bucks for my sandwich and a glass of water.

Not a bad spot. It was not very busy and pretty quiet inside. There was no music playing and we were the only ones there except for a few ppl that came in for take out orders. The food was good overall just the beef soup did have a lot of fat rather than meat but still tasteful. The plain soup soup was good too and a good option for vegetarian. The only thing was the bathroom was a bit dirty.

Was craving a spring roll and I have worked in the area for years without trying this spot. Not a lot of people I've talked to have ever tried it. Went on a whim as I had an insane craving. Cashier didn't know the difference between the tradition spring roll and Vietnamese spring roll which are listed right next to each other on the menu under their apps. He told me the only difference was what meat you put in. I asked again what other ingredients were in them other than protein and he kept just saying they were only meat. I was on a lunch break and I knew a spring roll doesn't come with only meat so just ordered. Two orders of the #1 on the apps which was the traditional spring roll. I paid $19+ for a very very disappointing spring roll. They were pretty laughable in size and the quality was if they had been sitting for a long time. Hard on some edges. Also filled mostly with chopped romaine and 4 shrimp. Not sure about the pho but don't order the fresh spring rolls. Not worth it.

pho dreams is a cute family owned vietnamese restaurant. we easily got a table on a saturday night. the man who served us seemed like the owner, and was very friendly. the inside couldn't been a bit cleaner in the dining area. the food came out very quickly. we got a rare steak pho - my partner said it was delicious! i tried some and have to agree. i got the vermicelli dry noodle bowl with beef and egg rolls. it was pretty good, but have definitely had better. i'd go with the pho, the broth was delicious.

Dom K.

Their pho is great! I like their portions and the food came quick. In the past, they've had issues with customer service, but coming again after a few years, I've had no problems and the staff was chill. Prices are more expensive than pho in other areas in the South Bay, but it's in line with everything in town.

I woke up one morning with this bizarre craving for Vietnamese crepe or pancake or... I don't know, it was just weird. I remember bookmarking this place awhile back and also remember they have both, so it was a no-brainer to come through for the day's lunch grub. I walked in and the whole place was empty - customers and staff alike. My initial thought was that this was a bad sign. But then again, I sorta came after the normal lunch rush window, so... fine. So, I stood at the counter for a minute... then, two... started hollering some "hello's" and there was simply no sign of life anywhere behind the kitchen. (No bueno!) I resulted to calling their listed phone number (on Yelp) before someone (who looked like a part of the kitchen staff - he was wearing an apron and all) finally came out. He asked if it's "for her or to go?" I told him I preferred to dine in, so he asked me to sit anywhere. I went through their menu before coming through, so I knew exactly what I wanted. He came back with water and told him my food choice. There was a little bit of language barrier so he politely asked me to point it on the menu (with the Vietnamese translation.) No biggie, I did exactly as he asked. Since I was the only customer at the time, it didn't take long for my grub to come out. And before I proceed, I have to mention that both my orders looked sooooo good! MINI SAVORY SHRIMP PANCAKES: Made to order, it came out piping hot, so I had to let it sit for a minute. Once it was cool enough, I wrapped one in lettuce with mint and dipped it in the sauce. This was OMG delicious! Seasoning and flavor was perfect. It wasn't greasy or oily. I really wish they gave enough lettuce and mint (they only gave enough for 4 when there were 6 pieces) and those leaves were kinda small. I know, I could have asked for more, but didn't because I knew I couldn't finish it anyway (with the banh mi and all - see below!) But yes, highly recommending this! COMBINATION FRENCH BAGUETTE: (This comes with ham slices, pork loaf, pate.) I wanted to get the one with head cheese, but it wasn't in the menu. I also wanted it without cilantro and jalapeno, but with the language barrier (I didn't want to complicate things for my server), I decided to settle for this as is. No regrets here, though, because for one, this is probably one of the best baguettes I've had. It had that typical hard on the outside, but not hard enough that it requires that strong bite most baguettes require. It was soft and fluffy on the inside but not too soft to question the whole bread's integrity. It kept the fillings in, no problem. Other than the need to pluck out the cilantro (they gave plenty, so that's a good thing if you're a cilantro fan, unlike yours truly) and jalapeno, and I felt they put too much mayo, it was okay. Overall flavor was delicious. FOOD: 5. There were minor snags but not enough to ding them for it. SERVICE: 4. My server was great despite the teenee challenge we had communicating. VALUE: 4. I feel you get more for what you pay for. PARKING: Street only. Not an issue if you're willing to walk. OVERALL: 4.25 A lady walked right after I packed up my stuff (enough for a 2nd meal, WOOHOO!!!) and went right behind the counter. When my server explained things to her, she was the one who processed my bill and all. I'm assuming she's the designated front person (she prolly came back from an errand, or lunch hour...?) So, yeah... I get it now... my guy was just filling for her. Yes, I would recommend. Yes, I would return - for those pancakes and that banh mi. I might one day even try one of their pho bowls. Looking forward to that, for sure!

Iced coffee
Lucine O.

Few weeks late on this review, but I stopped by for lunch with a big group of friends. I ordered the vegetarian pho and an iced coffee. The pho broth wasn't the most flavorful I've had but as a result the meal was incredibly light. I ate the full bowl (really enjoyed the variety of toppings/ingredients they used) and didn't feel grossly full. The iced coffee was good too. Less sweet than other places usually serve -- which I appreciated. Staff were also really friendly and helpful. Tl;Dr: not the most amazing pho, but really solid lunch after which you feel full but not gross. Nice Sunday afternoon option.

To our surprise, we found this "new" place, The Second Wind. The menu looked enticing and the lunch specials really looked like a great deal. So we decided we needed to come back for lunch and soon. A week later, we returned. Parking is very easy in the free lot for the complex. The interior design is energenic, vivrant with amazing looking Asian inspired pop art. Very cool interior. You can be seated and served or order to go. They have a combination lunch special, two items for $15.99. But, many of those items have an up charge if you add a protien. Either way, in these times, $16 for two items is reasonable. Our server greeted us quickly and let us choose the table of our liking. There are a handful of booths and open tables. My wife ordered the Beef Bulgogi and the Eggplant. I ordered the Chicken Dumplings and the Garlic Noodle (adding chicken for $2 more). The portions are generous. Light eaters might be able to just order one two dish combo and share. The Beef Bulgogi was good but the veggies looked a bit dehydrated. The Eggplant was just okay. The Chicken Dumplings were very tasty but served cool. I ordered them steamed and expected them to be warm at least. The Garlic Noodles with chicken was the biggest disappointment. To me, and my wife, over cooked with crunchy pieces. The chicken was also over cooked, dry and tough. When our server asked how things were, I mentioned it. He didn't seem surprised. I asked if the noodles were always dry and he said yes. He offered to bring more sauce, which he did. I added it but it didn't make the chicken any better. In the end, I left 90% of it. They only have cans of sodas so no refills but they are attached to a tea house that serves a great selection of teas, bobo, etc. There was some good things but more not, overall, we were disappointed. Honestly, I was a bit surprised they didn't offer to replace my dish or offer a small discount. They could see the pile of food I left. Anyway... Hopefully your experience and food preparation will be better than ours and...enjoy!!!

Sounds dreadful, but sometimes, that opens opportunity for exploring around the local eats. One of them is this local ramen shop, Blossom Ramen, that happens to be tucked inside the nice small El Segundo villages/shops in this quiet neighborhood. At night time, there are plenty of parking. This Ramen Shop closes pretty late (~11pm) while other local shops are already closed. Thus, parking is pretty open. I can't say the same during the morning or dayshift. At night time, you can see through the open window layout of the Ramen Shop and actually see if it is packed or not. Roughly 6 tables seating up to 2, as well as 7/8 tables seating up to 4. The register and reception area is right up front immediately when you walk through the glass door. The Menu is displayed up on the LCD screen as well as the laminated doubled-side sheets. Plenty of various types of Ramen to choose from. Order is taken and paid up front. Once ordered, along with your drinks, the waiter will bring the order to you directly so you can enjoy it. The interior decor of the Ramen Shop speaks volume to the "Blossom" that is in the name. The designer must really and truly like Cherry Blossom to decorate the interior as such. Wallpaper in cute anime/cartoonish form is seen throughout. I ordered the "Red Ramen" and when it came out, it was probably the most delicious and flavorful Ramen I've had. It wasn't a Tonkatsu nor Miso based soup, but more of a curry flavor based. The noodles was very delicate and very aldente! I had also ordered a pint of Sapporo to go with it and it tasted so amazing when parred together. I'm recommending this shop for late night eats or just whenever you feel like it or feel like eating Ramen. I'll have to try the other soup base the next time I'm around here.

They make my Friday night fish dinner a step in the food-heaven direction. The staff is out of this world, with a lovely manager, attentive servers, and talented chefs. The spicy edamame is a perfect starter if you'd like your plain edamame to have a flavor kick. The portion is big, making it plenty enough for a group of four to enjoy together. Unless you're a glutton like I am and don't feel like sharing, haha. The bluefin carpaccio practically melts in your mouth. The cut of the bluefin is absolutely just what your stomach is craving. Soft, flavorful, and satisfying to say the least. The white lightning is a saucy garlic surprise. The ever so slight sear on the albacore makes this roll have a dance party on your tongue. The garlic butter that the roll sits in has such a great taste that I just want to drink it down. Japonica El Segundo is placed in a small "strip mall" type of location, with on site parking being limited. There are several disabled designated parking spots right in front of the restaurant. Also, there is plenty of parking up & down Main Street, allowing for closeness within walking distance. There are no stairs/steps needed to enter the restaurant and the televisions do have closed-captions. The noise level is mid, making it easy to have comfortable conversations with your party without having to shout. I would absolutely recommend taking a stroll down Main Street after your meal, giving yourself some time to digest, stretch, and maybe get a scoop of ice cream from one of the local spots.

With that disclaimer out of the way, here's my humble opinion of the ramen at Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen. It's okay. When I came here yesterday afternoon, I ordered the Hakata Ramen which is basically a tonkotsu style ramen. Every aspect of it is customizable including the broth, noodles, and toppings. I just went with the default options, which i believe they recommend for first timers. On the side, I got a flavored egg, and pork belly. The broth was solid. It was flavorful, and fatty. The noodles were the right firmness as well. However, the chashu pork and pork belly were pretty mediocre. I know this sounds harsh but hear me out. Even after bathing them in the broth, they were dry and not tender. I didn't enjoy the flavored egg either. It was overly boiled and barely marinated. Despite the shortcomings noted above, I'm still giving this place four stars because the service is fantastic. The staff is very nice and provide incredibly fast service. My drink came out in like one minute. The refill came out even faster. They also offer free refills of the noodles.

And the tonkatsu? Legit one of the best I've had--perfectly fried with that golden, crisp exterior that somehow stays light, not greasy, and gives way to juicy, tender pork. So many combinations, and everything comes out like a full spread. My current go-to is the steak gozen--basically the "why choose?" option. You get miso soup, salad, tonkatsu, tempura, soba... it just keeps coming. It's generous without feeling overdone, and somehow everything still tastes dialed in. I used to be loyal to the sukiyaki gozen (RIP, still not over it), but the steak set has filled that void nicely. Bottom line: delicious, satisfying, and surprisingly good value for how much you get.
