My wife and I were in the area and decided to stop in and check it out, since I'm not too familiar with Vietnamese food. We went in around 6:30 pm on a tuesday. Location was easy to walk to from the street parking down the block. Pleasant atmosphere as we were greeted at the door, and promptly greeted again by our bartender, who served us up some cold pints of beer (21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon, which is refreshing on a hot summer day, and Jack's Abby Hoponius, one the best IPLs on the planet). We were seated in a two-top near the bar, and all the tables by the window were full of diners. We pretty much selected a few things that sounded good, like the carmelized salmon, some spring rolls, and a few curried meat dishes, all of which were excellent. Periodically a new aroma would wash over us as another diners meals were served nearby, giving us new sensory experience as we talked to other diners about their meal choices. Our fellow diners were so pleasant to be around. It felt we were experiencing the sort of urban dining that I've grown so accustomed to when in Manhattan. Had dinner here last night with the family. Decor- Nice, clean and modern. Service- attentive and quick. Food- Pho: decent, lacking the authentic aroma. Disappointing compared to the Worcester Location. Staff was friendly and attentive. The broth was good, with a medium mouth feel. A little heavier on the fat, very little tendon/tripe, round eye was not rare. The meat and noodle quantity was very small. This has happened a few times now that I have called for carry out and they simply pick up the phone and put it down without saying a word. Why would they not pick up and say "can you hold please?". Very good fresh food!! Needing noodles so googled and got this place. Hubs loved the beef stew noodles and I had a hearty bun with pork, spring roll and shrimp. Salty limeade to cool down on a hot day. Will drop by next time we are in Framingham for sure. read more

I am SO glad a Pho place came into metrowest. Pho and Spice in Waltham is ok, but not amazing - and so tiny it's hard to eat there. Pho Dakao is a welcome addition to Framingham. The soups have always been good, the summer rolls and peanut sauce are delicious, and the sparkling limeade is a perfect lunchtime companion to Pho if you're not hitting the bar. The service is still working out some kinks - but not for lack of trying. They are friendly, but still learning the job. A couple of times I've had to ask for the sprouts, basil, and lime that comes with the pho, and a couple of times I've had to wait a little longer than standard to order/pay - but this will come with practice. I've been twice now, the food -or the dishes we got the first time were better than the second. The ambiance is decent, seems clean (just don't look at the building from the back). I like their fresh summer rolls and I got a curry noodle dish that was good. The second time we got the crepe appetizer and it was pretty disappointing- not like other Boston Vietnamese places we've eaten at, also got a fried spring roll (wanted to try a couple different things) but those were a little disappointing too. I felt the same way about their pho, it was just ok, but not great. We also tried a seafood dish, it was a very small portion. I was so looking forward to Vietnamese food in Metrowest but not sure this is "the one" I'll probably stick with Sichuan Gourmet or Thai food for now and go to Boston for Pho. read more

I can honestly say, this is my favorite pho restaurant. I frequent Pho Dakao and I've never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly. I've been here several times over the span of a year. I've received prompt and courteous service each time. Reservations are a cinch and I'm always greeted on the telephone and in person with respect. One of my favorite dishes anywhere is pho. This place is no exception. Their pho is what you would expect from any Vietnamese restaurant, and that's a good thing! One small caveat: if you're sitting next to the windows on a cold day or night, be prepared for a draft. They really should seal the bases of those windows up! EDIT 3/4/17: They have live music on Friday nights. Though the performers we heard were skillful, it was very loud. If you're looking for a quiet space to converse with someone while you eat, come here another day. read more

Service was slow, painfully slow and not well trained. I HATE it when I need to search for the server because my beer glass is empty and I am halfway through the meal. By the time the second beer arrives, dinner is gone. Add to that, I was also not even halfway through my Pho when the server brought my next dish, meaning that one of the other would have to be eaten cold. Awful! My wife and I made our second visit last night and liked it even better than the first time a few months ago. We took two friends from Somerville who are big pho fans and they gave it a thumbs up as well. We started out with an order of the summer rolls, which provide a nice contrast between the chewy rice paper wrapper and the crunchy filling, which included shrimp, lettuce, and noodles. The peanut sauce served on the side was a nice punch of extra flavor. The out-of-towners got the Pho Ga`, chicken pho, and gave it high marks, comparable to versions they've had in the pho palaces in the big city. One ding they gave it was there were no mix-ins, like bean sprouts and fresh basil, were provided (we got those on our last visit and the menu still lists them). When one of them asked the waitress, who provided prompt and friendly service, I will say, she gestured to the condiment caddy on the table that provided hot sauce and what looked like a black bean sauce, and said brightly that those were the condiments. We let it go at that and made use of the bottle of sriracha sauce. I got the vegetable pho, which was packed with bright green broccoli florets, julienned carrot slices, sweet red peppers, and summer squash in addition to the vermicelli noodles. The broth was chicken, nicely livened up with liberal sprigs of fresh cilantro. My wife got the same thing she had last visit, she liked it so much, a salad of shrimp and shredded chicken on a bed of cabbage with a rice vinegar and mint dressing. She liked the peanut sauce from the summer rolls enough that she asked for and promptly received a small bowl of it to mix into her salad. A happy discovery was that Pho Dakao now serves two of Framingham's awesome microbrewery Jack's Abby's beers on tap - the Hoponius Union IPL and Smoke and Dagger. Good move, Pho Dakao! The Smoke and Dagger, a dark rauch (smoked) beer was a nice, rich counterpoint to the bright flavors of my meal. Our waitress helpfully pointed out that the restaurant offered a 15% discount on the meal if we texted a code to them on one of our phones. Done! They're obviously try to build a loyal customer list by gathering phone numbers to blast out discounts and specials and we were happy to oblige. We got out of there for about $25 per couple, for a shared appetizer, main dishes, and drinks (only two of us had alcohol). Sweet! When we got there on Saturday close to 8 p.m. it was crowded and bustling but we were seated right away at a table at the front window overlooking the sidewalk. A huge party of about 12 people, what appeared to be an extended Asian family, was seated behind us, happily chatting and chowing down. As we left at about 9:30 p.m. the dinner rush had slowed and there were plenty of tables. They've got a bar area that would be a cool hang until closing time at 11 p.m. (the World Cup was on the big-screen TV as we dined). We may need to make a late night visit for one of those intriguing cocktails on the menu, like the lychee martini. Great pho spot in the center of Framingham! The broth wasn't what I'm used to seeing. Instead of the clear, clean, spiced broth this one was cloudy and full-flavored. I really enjoyed it! I probably put a few too many chilies in it because I made it way too hot but it really hit the spot. The meat was very fresh (although not too plentiful) and the noodles were perfectly cooked. I also had the fresh spring rolls which were served with a tasty but very thin peanut sauce, so it was a bit hard to dip. I would highly recommend this spot to any pho lover. Waited at the door for over 5 minutes, no indication if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Finally one of the servers stopped and sat us. 10 min wait to order drinks, 10 minute wait to receive drinks. Food came out timely, and server was pleasant. We had to wait over 20 minutes for our check after finishing. Summer rolls. Not good. The Pho Ga was delicious. I feel they are severely understaffed. I ordered the special noodle soup and fresh summer roll . The taste was average. The soup base was bland and you can tell that they have msg in it. There was not much meat in the special, there was probably 4 pieces of meat in a large bowl . so if you are a big eater, you may need an x large. The noodle soup in Chinatown Boston definitely gives you more for your money. The fresh summer roll is fresh and good. If you happen to be around the area and have a craving for Vietnamese food, I would recommend to come here if you don't want to drive all the way to Boston. read more

I have never had Vietnamese before, but I was very excited to try it! I wasn't disappointed. The menu is extensive and I ended up ordering crispy spring rolls and beef ball pho. I didn't love the crispy spring rolls, but it's not so much that they were bad as it was that they weren't what I expected. I thought they'd be more like Cambodian crispy spring rolls, but they were more like Thai crispy spring rolls. Good, just not what I had hoped for. The pho was delicious. I did add lots of basil and sriracha, but I am told that's standard. The beef balls were interesting. The flavor isn't bad, but they were very dense. Others at the table ordered the special pho, the rare steak pho, bird's nest noodles with beef, and two different curries. Everyone seemed quite pleased with their meal. I thought the portions were good: about half the people finished their meals but were very full, the rest of us took it home. I also thought the prices were good for what you got. I didn't have a problem with a service like most people said. It was a little slow but not too bad. Getting the bill and then getting cards back took a while, that was all. There is ample parking behind the building, but you can usually get street parking as well. I don't love the location, but the inside was pleasantly warm and modern. Worst experience I've had in a long time. I ordered the red snapper which the menu describes as "Sautéed with garlic, peppers and tomatoes sauce". Now, I'm not a pretentious diner at all but what I was received was not "sautéed" by any stretch. What I was served was a fried, hard crusted, almost candied fish! Ok, I kept and open mind but when I discovered the fish itself was tough and over cooked, I was not pleased. Then there's was the price. Ok, my fault for not asking the "market price" but when I got the bill it was $31! and a $2 charge for "large". $33 for this awful fish! I've had more tender and flavorful fish from "lesser" restaurants at half the price! The waiter: he came over to ask if we wanted to start with drinks, then walked away when someone decided to take another look at the drink menu! Just walked away! This was a Tues night - NOT a busy night. He didn't know the menu and couldn't answer any questions from the people in my party - and didn't offer to find out. My wife & I & friends have over the past 2 years thinking the first time eating there that they must have had a bad day there. Seemed they were more interested in us ordering alcohol drinks then serving serious prepared Vietnamese cuisine. Each time they were not even that busy, the time to the food was placed on table was just too lengthy. This occurred each and every time we went there, culminating in a walk out when we all agreed that they were out to NOT serve any form of serious food. + there prices are not in line w/ the word cuisine in any way shape or form. What your company needs to do is send in area foodies that are not be expected to report on. Just in every way Pho Dakao is a major RIPP! OFF! NO STAR RESTAURANT. And the fact that your Phantom is still saying that they fly under the radar is a travesty to all foodies in New England. You Should be ashamed! It was a cold and rainy day on MAY 5th in Boston and there's nothing better to warm you from the inside out than some Pho. Service was friendly and prompt. I had the teriyaki beef as an appetizer and it was SCRUMPTIOUS!! Seasoned perfectly and the peanuts and scallions sprinkled on top made it perfect! Steak pho soup as my entrée was great. Major disappointment for me. I was craving authentic Viet food but didn't want to go all the way into Dorchester since I'm now in the burbs. I ordered a bunch of items that are my typical go tos: summer roll (goi cuon), wonton soup, the vermicelli with pork and egg roll and shrimp (bun cha thit nuong va Tom), the shrimp salad (goi Tom), and the pho special (dac biet). The summer roll had so much lettuce in it that you couldn't even taste the shrimp or meat. It came with 2 rolls but the tiniest little peanut sauce (that barely had any flavor of peanuts at all). The wonton soup came with 4 wontons (ok for my family of 4) but the broth was so bland and flavorless. Similarly, the vermicelli was so boring--the grilled shrimp lacked flavor, the pork was chewy and tasteless, and the vermicelli was thicker than the normal one that is typically used for this dish. The shrimp salad had promise, it has all the right notes but lacked the heat that is required of this dish. And the only one that was somewhat decent was the pho. The kids asked for triple helpings, but how can you be a viet restaurant and lack flavor? If you are considering coming here, I would probably just move along to the next spot. read more
