I went recently after not having been for a few months and was delighted to find out they added a smoked brisket grilled cheese. I'm a longtime Jack's Abby customer dating back to their original location in a much smaller brewery on the opposite side of route 135. They have always had excellent pizza which I would say is one of the best pizzas in metro west. As for this trip, I was very happy with the brisket grilled cheese and the nicely crisped French fries. The mix of American and cheddar cheese was tasty but most importantly, the brisket was the leading actor as it should be. Other places I've had this often overwhelm the brisket with too much bread or a sauce that takes away from the brisket. I found this one to be well balanced. As for beer, I had the Hoponious Union which is their IPL and most like an IPA. They brew exclusively lagers and closed down their IPA brewery (Springdale) which is why I haven't come as often as I used to. The vibe of the place is definitely brewery / old factory with tall ceilings and open concept overall. You can watch them make pizzas which I always find fun. They have a great outdoor area in the summer that is worth the trip alone. I haven't been this summer yet but they usually upgrade every year and have had corn hole and other games in that area in the past. read more

So many to choose from that we enjoyed great flights so we were able to continue our drive but hubby and I both said we would've stayed in town there just to have more if we could!! I don't drink a lot of beer, but when I do... I don't drink Dos Equis -- I drink at a microbrewery or at a restaurant the offers a good selection of local craft brews. Luckily for me, there are and ample number of places to choose from near me that fit that criteria. One of them is Jack's Abby Brewing. There's a lot to like about this place. #1: The beer is good. #2: They have ample parking on and off the street. #3: The beer is very good. #4: The food is good. #5: They have great beer. #6 They have indoor and outdoor seating. Did I mention the beer is good ;) The bartenders and servers will guide you to the beer you'll like. And the menu is varied and good. I'd describe is up-scale pub food. The seating beer-hall-style. You'll likely be sitting at a long table with people you don't know, but that's pretty cool really. You get to meet knew people and chat about, well, beer. Wifey and I came up to the area for the Army-Navy game and wanted to check out a local brewery that served food (they don't have these in Jersey - can't serve food). We decided on Jack's Abby and it was a hit. We were seated immediately and I loved that they have giant long picnic type tables. The place was huge, filled with very happy patrons, and it felt like a place I'd be a regular at if I was from the area. I was impressed with the beer offerings and the food menu was great too. Too early for dinner we just ordered a couple appetizers - we ordered the large hot pretzel and meatballs. Pretzel was excellent with delicious mustard and pub cheese. The meatballs were good, not as good as Wifey's, but still good. The beer options were great and our server was pretty well versed. Wifey and I both did flights Me: Shipping Out to Boston (loved this one - solid flavors for a lighter beer) Copper Legend (a nice simple beer) German Chocolate Cake (very good, but a bit sweet for me) Framinghammers Barrel Aged (my favorite- deep porter taste...I left with a 4-pack) Wifey: Blood Orange Wheat (I could drink these all summer) Copper Legend Framinghammers French Toast (too sweet for me) Cider- another one I could drink all summer. Have been coming to Jacks Abby for many years, love getting Hopponious Union fresh on draft. The beer options are good but the food is very hit or miss. Years ago the food was excellent but they have cycled through chefs so food quality is a bit too random for me. Today we had the onion rings which were fantastic. Very flavorful and served with a house made tartar sauce and sriracha sauce. Love! I had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich as well and that was very forgettable. A lot of ingredients in there but little to no flavor and the bun was either stale or just not good. My husband got the shrimp and rice special, just OK. I found it to have an off putting taste. We sat at the new bar area (2023) and found it to feel more like being isolated at an ice cream counter. Didn't have a bar vibe. Won't sit here again. Service lacked attention, had to flag down the server several times. Place was not busy and they had plenty of staff so that is good news. read more

Smoke & Dagger - dark beer with a tinge of tobacco aftertaste, and smooth as well. I came here to redeem a prize I won at a gala. So decided to redeem it this past Saturday. One of the perks of this prize was a private brewery rour. It was just me as my friends could not come. I had some food here after my tour. The meatballs and the Pretzel's were very tasty. Highly recommend and the beers were tasty too. During dinner I had a flight. Set in a big green box this clean, friendly and fun brew pub offers a variety of excellent food and brews in a casual atmosphere. We had a table of 6 adults ordering a few 'flights' of their seasonals ... including Smoke and Dagger, Noble Breeze and Blood Orange. I was in Massachusetts for the weekend and was looking for some local craft beer when I found Jack's Abbey on Yelp. Located in Framingham, this brewery has street parking as well as a lot out back. We sat inside at a long brew house table as it was raining out, but they have a large outside area as well. It is a large brewery and I was impressed at their beer list. Despite their shirts saying "lagers", they also had a variety of IPAs, sours, and a few stouts. What I really loved at Jack's Abbey was their food menu. It can be tough to find a brewery that not only has their own kitchen instead of a food truck, but one that takes as much pride in their food as their beer. Not only did I enjoy my flight of beer, but the artichoke dip with pita was delicious. We were a group of 5 on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was busy. 3 different servers introduced themselves throughout our time there, which was confusing. After asking the second server if we should order through him or via the QR code, he gave us an honest answer and recommended ordering from our phones. Recently had two different lagers from Jack Abby's and it was a fairly good experience. Perhaps not the best lagers I have had but tasty enough for sure. Part of it may be that I may be a lager snob too. We had two different beers from this brewery. One was their Czech Bohemian Pilsner named Sunny Ridge which had a sweet, dry flavor to it. Crisp and refreshing start. The next was called the Bohemian Dusk, a Dark Lager with malty, bready and roasty flavors. Dark and smooth in body this was a fairly decent dark lager but yet again not necessarily the very best in my long history of brewery wondering and adventuring but still respectable beers. read more

Jack's Abby Craft Lagers is a craft brewery that opened in Framingham, Massachusetts in 2011. It was founded by brothers Jack, Eric and Sam Hendler. Jack has a degree from the Siebel Institute and began brewing at a brewpub in Boston. Eventually the three brothers decided to go into business together and launch their own brewery that would exclusively brew lagers. They took up residence inside the old Dennison Manufacturing building. Although Boston is known for being the home of the Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Eastern Massachusetts at this time was the birthplace of the 'New England IPA' craze. It seemed very unlikely that a brewery that only made elegant, clear, crisp lagers would have a chance succeeding in a landscape where craft beer drinkers were waiting in long lines to purchase thick, hazy, sweet, intense ales. Against all odds, Jack's Abby found their fan base. Today Jack serves as the brewmaster, Sam as the CEO, and Eric as the Finance Director. In 2024, Jack's Abby purchased Wormtown Brewery. This new acquisition makes Jack's Abby the largest craft brewing facility in Massachusetts and one of the ten largest family-owned brewing operations in the country. The brothers founded the new parent company 'Hendler Family Brewing Company', which collectively owns Jack's Abby, Wormtown and Jack's Beverage Company (their contract brewing arm). I recently visited Jack's Abby while I was cycling around the Framingham area. The brewery has been on my bucket list for a long time. Although I definitely tend to prefer ales over lagers, Jack's Abby never ceases to amaze me because I would swear that some of their beers actually are ales. My visit happened to coincide with the brewery's annual 'Maifest'; I had no idea until I actually got there. There were all sorts of festivities including people dressed up in traditional lederhosen, German foods, a dance around the Maypole, and live music from a German brass band. The tasting room was beautiful; it was designed to look like a traditional, big Bavarian beer hall. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a taster flight which consisted of "Mexican Lager", "Arctic Bloom" (IPL), "Modern Märzen", and "Maifest" (Festbier). Every single beer was so crisp and refreshing. Of course I needed to grab some German grub too. After looking over the special Maifest Menu, I ordered the "Potato Pancakes" (arugula, pickled onions, sriracha mayo) and the "Maifest Pizza" (bratwurst, hotdogs, banana peppers, sliced onion, pickles, fresh mozzarella, oregano). We finally stopped into this local brewery after hearing rave reviews from friends. We were seated right away and our waitress Callin came right over to see what we would like. She then took the time to explain the different types of beer and her recommendations to my wife. She was wonderful. We tried several types of beer and each one was so full of flavor and unlike some we have had no bitter after taste. We then tried the food as well. The grilled brisket sand and the chicken BLT. The food came out so fast we were concerned. There was no reason, both were perfectly cooked and delicious. The crowd was lively and fun and they had a great singer playing while we were there. We took the tour!!! My husband was wanting to take the tour of Jacks Abby and they recently offered it on a Sunday so I signed us up as a surprise for him. Our tour started at noon on a Sunday, our tour guide was Nick (who was a great guide!). There was 7 of us who took the tour and it lasted about 39 minutes. We were brought to the brewing area and Nick brought us all through and explained the whole process of brewing and all the steps involved in making beer. We also got a heads up on what beers will be coming up and what is going on hiatus soon. After we were done they brought us all a flight of some of their classic beers to enjoy. If you're a beer fan I would recommend this tour. read more

Decent brewery with a large parking lot in the back. Lots of seating inside with a small area for merch as well. It was nice to be able to order and pay right from the table without having to wait for a waiter, the downside being then that you otherwise never see a waiter so we ended up having to wait a while for to-go boxes and never got to get additional water. Fantastic brewery with a lager heavy beer lineup. For beer aficionados, they tend to lean towards lagers and lighter beers. But I would say the food might be better than the beer. I had the sausage platter during my visit, which was delicious on all accounts. It's a good portion size though, and I had quite a bit of leftovers. Heads up! There's plenty of parking!!! Just park in the massive lot behind the Springdale room. The street fills up fast. Great margherita pizza, but last time I visited I got the arugula one with prosciutto. the waitress helped me get a few beers to taste and I ended up with Pride and Parquet. The blood orange wheat is a great choice on draft because it's much better than the canned version, but the canned version is also great and I usually take a case of it home with me. 10/10 this is a good spot I keep coming back to time and time again. Good food, good drinks, good staff, good value, clean facilities. I have the best experience when I reserve a table in advance through their website. I like sitting outside in the beer garden, nice and distanced,but for some reason it was closed on 8/20/21. I enjoy coming to jacks Abby, but the toasttab usually gives me issues. It's confusing when you place an order and then are prompted to close out the check, because then you can't order more food and sometimes it says my card isn't valid despite the information being entered right. Have no fear, the waitress are able to take your order the old fashioned way as long as you browse the menu online. I miss paper menus. read more

The brewery itself was great, but the host kind of ruined the experience for me. I made a reservation for outside on the patio at 4:15 on a Saturday. We arrived a little bit early and the host was able to bring us outside. The spot she was going to seat us at was fully in the sun, while the other side of the patio was in the shade. We asked to sit in the shade instead and she said all the tables were reserved (but there were so many open.) She told us she "couldn't control the weather" which I thought was super rude. She then told us she could find us another spot, but we had to wait, which we were find with. We stood inside for another 15 minutes while she sat every other party that came in. She did not even approach us again, I had to go ask for a table again. I then asked to be sat inside because it did not even seem like the idea of sitting outside was available. It was very confusing because when I made the reservation there were several spots open for indoor and outdoor seating, but she was still struggling to seat us. Once we were finally seated it was pretty easy to order food and drinks through the app. I really liked their wheat beer and their pizza was really good. The food and drinks were great but the service in the beginning was really rude and I would not want to have that host again. You don't really have a server once you sit down, just someone to give you water and whatever you order through the app. read more

We were headed to Boston for a kids event and needed something for the parents. Jack's offered us food the kids would enjoy and alcoholic beverages for the adults! Heads up fellow Yelpers: On street parking. Threw me for a loop but hey luckily our 8 party was able to easily find 2 spots easily. Also, during Covid times they require reservations. at this time 6 max at a table so we had 2 tables. The setting: a beer garden overlooking residential homes, through a nice wall made of pallets with lots of flowers to increase the ambiance of the place. It's pretty big! As much as that sentence doesn't paint a nice picture- they do it well. I would love to sit here again especially on a sunny summer day. (Luckily we did have a great October day.) The kids were happy with their lemonade, pizza and mac and cheese. The adults were happy with the lagers, schnitzel and the POUTINE!!! Ok so the poutine was part of my meal but everyone who tried it (kids included) thought it was delicious! The Beer cheese was on point and not one fry was left on that plate. I also had the Brussel sprouts. I was looking forward to this all week (as being pregnant I really did think about those bacon/feta brussels) but was not fond of the sherry vinegar. I came into the beer hall during the marathon which I expected to be busy and the kitchen backed up. However I wasn't told I could order through a QR code and sat there for 10-15 minutes (estimated). While sitting there a family of at least 6 sat at the same table as me and got their drinks before me and a couple of kids got there sandwich before I even got my beer! Twice a waitress came by and asked if I was all set and I told them yes I ordered through my phone. I never saw a waitress again until I was down to my last chicken wing! I understand being busy because of the marathon but to not even acknowledge a guest within a few minutes of them sitting down? That was the worst experience I have ever experienced dining out! Had I been in a hurry I would've canceled the order and walked out but my car was blocked in because of the event in the parking lot which wasn't blocked off with no parking signs! I ended up giving the ole $.01 tip to show how poorly I was treated! I don't blame the kitchen because of the marathon being right outside but I blame the whole staff in the dining room! Went with the wife and our closest friends to Jacks Abby this past weekend. It was Octoberfest! Where else would we go? I have to expose my bias here. I love the whole Jacks Abby operation. Always have. Have seen them grow from a small, tasting room only craft brewer, to one of the most ubiquitous brewers in Massachusetts. They sponsor the Boston Celtics for gods sake!! They are big time. Call it home town pride. Also, I will never forget when the sh!t went down during the first days of the pandemic in 2020, schools closed, and no one knew what to do. Jacks Abby stood up and told any kid or family that relies on school for lunch or dinner, to come to their brewery and get a free half pizza. No questions. No guilt. No money. Just food. They would feed whoever showed up until they ran out of supplies. (For one whole year, I refused to buy any other beer than JA.). To this day they are frequent hosts of local fundraisers. This is a group that has gotten very big, but not forgotten their roots. Amazing. Now back to our recent visit. Our table split a hot pretzel and the artichoke dip. Yummy! I got the wurst plate. Delicious sauerkraut, spetzle, and great tasting wurst. With the Oompa band playing in the background, it was all amazing. Great food. Super service. Incredible atmosphere. The atmosphere at Jack's Abby is even better than the pics depict online. Tons of open seating, high ceilings, clean modern atmosphere. It's okay to sit at a table with other people, seriously. Humans don't generally bite unless you make them angry. And here in New England, most people keep to themselves unless they've had one too many to drink... so here... it's possible! I got a flight to try several beers; Hoponius Union has been a favorite for years. I was pleased with the majority of choices. Heavy German food isn't really my thing, so I opted for a burger which was meh. The pretzel was pretty good, even the charring didn't stop me from digging in. Add a friend to the mix, and it made for a fantastic afternoon at Jack's Abby. I will definitely return again in the future! read more

"Please don't bother trying to find her, She's not there" (The Zombies) If you want a beer, and scan the beer list for Miss IPA, you won't find her here at Jack's Abby. No IPAs, no DIPAs, no NEIPAs, no hazy or juicy or sour IPAs. None at all. Zip, nada, zilch. Why not? Because Jack's Abby only brews Bavarian style lagers, that's all. And they take that statement very seriously, because they have an incredible 24 lagers on tap. I need to say this - Jack's Abby is one of the biggest, most different, and best breweries I have ever been to. It's massive, and in the German style, it's set up like a huge Beer Hall. No table reservations are accepted and seating is "open". So expect to see a ton of very long picnic tables with benches. People sit wherever there is an open spot on a bench, so you'll probably be sitting with some new friends! You and your new friends will have a dizzying choice of lagers to drink. To me, this is what makes Jack's Abby different, because they haven't joined so many of today's breweries in falling head over heels with IPAs and offering an IPA-centric beer list. Look, I'm not an IPA guy, so whenever I visit a brewery, one of my first actions is to scan the beer list for something that doesn't say "IPA". I had no worries here ! Between their tap list and bottled beers, they have five "core" lagers, six specialty or seasonal lagers, twelve Kellerbier lagers, seven limited specialty lagers, and fifteen barrel aged limited specialty lagers. That's a lotta lager! Want more? Sure you do. Well how about this- Jack's has an in-house kitchen and offers you a ton of food options made on sight, so you won't see any food trucks here. They have a wood-fired pizza oven, so expect to see a lot of pizza on the menu, along with "Beer Bites" (meatballs, wings, pretzels, bratwurst, charcuterie), "Lighter Fare" (four salads and an interesting Charred Cauliflower dish), a cheese platter, and eight pizzas. We were driving home from Boston, and since we had 90 miles ahead of us, we wanted to be prudent about what we drank. We each had one beer, their very popular Blood Orange Wheat (15 IBUs and 4% ABV). Light, refreshing, delicious! We had dinner along with our beers, and went for two pizzas (one red and one white). Each was $15. The House Meatball included crushed Italian tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and outstanding meatball slices. It was terrific. The Wild Mushroom included leeks, gruyere, tarragon and a slew of sliced wild mushrooms. It was also terrific. Each pizza was cut into six slices. Of the twelve slices, we had three each, and took home the other six. Seriously, a single pie is way more than enough for one person, unless you're an offensive lineman or a frat boy.
