i'm not sure where all these 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from.. maybe they sprinkled a little crack into your pho.. my grandparents moved from southern china to vietnam when they were young (all 4 of them) and both my parents along with aunt and uncles were born in vietnam. although 100% chinese blood we have a lot of viet influences. with that said, i've had my fair share of pho and other viet cuisines. i had a extra long lunch today and decided to have some pho at pho da lat. parking: only 5 spots, not very good considering the restaurant can seat 40+. table/setting: as mentioned, there were TONS of neon lights, the inside was kinda grimy, but honestly not very important to me, as long as the food is tight i don't care about the rest, especially at this establishment. after 10 minutes i noticed the restaurant filling up well (it was lunch) i had the pho dac biet and a viet iced coffee. the iced coffee was good, they are always good. the noodle soup was POOR. broth: it had nothing to it, i was sooo sooo sooo disappointed in the broth. sigh. i still can't get over it. it had no flavor, no punch at all. no love was put into it. the protein: first off, the trip was poor, the beef tendon was weak, i got this itty bitty slice. and the sliced beef seemed like it was already cooked before it went in. the meat is supposed to be raw when it arrives and cook in front of you. the beef was chewy and seemed precooked.. worst of all, the hot sauce and oyster/hoisin sauce bottles were sticky and gross.. with a staff of 4-5 i figured someone could be walking around keeping the stuff clean. the restaurant was super dark during lunch as well. all in all, the pho was pedestrian. i've had worse, but for 13 bucks i expected a better meal. i'll be going elsewhere for pho in lowell. disappointed considering the viet population in lowell. read more

Real quick ... Ate here tonight ... had the chicken noodle pho ... delish!!! the place is larger than it looks from the outside. My friend was nervous however thinking that the area was sketchy LOL. The place had a lot of neon signs ... it was blinding my friend's eyes hehehe. I have to say the area was not best of places I have been, but food was good! I also had the chai tea bubble tea there, and it was pretty good. Parking is limited. There might have been additional parking on the side. The place is right off the main street. The rating is based on pho only. I was out in Lowell on a random visit, and spotted this joint. Since it was FRIGID out, pho was exactly what I was in the mood for... and Pho Da-Lat delivered. The broth was flavorful and rich, the meats were tastey (but could've been more tender), and the noodles were great. We also shared some of the spring rolls (huge shrimp inside!). I got a soda lemonade (not that great). The menu had everything I would want to eat... except for bahn mi. Eh, you can't have EVERYTHING right? They had the banh xeo crepe thing, bun, and pho. My two work buddies and I tried this place for lunch today. We're regulars at another Pho restaurant in the area, but decided to branch out a little bit and try another one. There are a few places in Lowell to get Pho or other great Vietnamese Fare, but our usual place makes it difficult to stray. Again...we did today...and it was pretty good here. The place looks like someone's house-turned-restaurant...and the parking is limited to about 4-5 spots in the front. My buddy drives a Toyota Tundra...and I think had he picked one of the smaller spots, his truck bed would have been in the road. Despite the tacky neon signs in front, the inside makes you think they're trying to mirror a more tropical setting. Everything is white or neon inside...with plants and a fish tank adorning the middle of the dining room. One of my buds commented on the bar setting looking like something you'd see in Aruba. The weather outside was beautiful today...and a nice crisp breeze was blowing across the dining room since the windows and doors were open. Another item that greeted us was some bizarre aromas. I wouldn't say bad aromas, however, bizarre. Not taken aback, we sat down to enjoy some usual Fresh Spring Rolls, (not the crispy ones), with the side of peanut sauce. I went for the tofu/shrimp option...and my buddies ordered them as-is with the pork/shrimp. The spring rolls arrived lickety-split fast...and all in all were pretty good. We did notice an unusual smell...almost like they sprinkled some Parmesan cheese on the inside of the roll. It was faint, but noticeable. I also noticed the lettuce did not appear a nice vibrant green...so either it was just an hour or so from actually wilting or they used some of the greens closer to the core of the lettuce head where it's more white than green. Tasted good and fresh tho, so just a visual and slight aroma hurdle. I shared one of my tofu ones as I actually felt it was better than the pork ones. My buddy agreed. So pretty good...but maybe not quite as good as what we're used to. It had some qualities that were both better and not quite as good as our ol' faithful Pho champion. We moved on to some beef Pho...one of my buds getting the very traditional bowl with all the slimy goodies...tripe, tendon, rare steak, etc, etc. While my other buddy and I aren't quite as impressed having tried it, so we settle for the rare steak only. This Pho was subtly different. Right off the bat, we all noticed it was a sweeter broth...that actually had a little bit of "gaminess" to it. Not necessarily a bad kind of gaminess...but nonetheless a noticeable difference. Made us realize that perhaps this is a more traditional bowl of Pho...we don't have too many different Pho's under our belt, so this was our perspective. We did notice it was piping hot...and tasted like it had just been prepared...onions and greens were very fresh tasting. 2 out of 3 of us use the Taiwanese Hot Sauce in the Pho that is showcased at every Pho restaurant...called Tuong Ot Sriracha/HOT Chile Sauce. There is a picture of a rooster on it...and an unmistakable green squirt-cap. A quote about this particular sauce by one of Yelp-Boston's Elite, (or 1337 in hacker/gamer sp33k), Yelp Ambassadors, Leighann has a picture of the bottle on her profile with a caption... "if ya don't know, you betta ask somebody!" I am serial folks, she's right...check urself b4 u wreck urself...One taste and you'll be yellin' like a redneck'..."Sonbitch...that's good". Anywho...the sauce eliminates the slight gamy taste...and by the time I got to the bottom of the bowl, I was noddin, cuz I was diggin' it. My non-sauce buddy just couldn't get into the Pho as much...but take note, he finished it with only a bit of broth left. All in all...I am pretty sure we won't be substituting our usual seats at our fave place, but this was a nice change of pace. This place is fantastic, and super-cheap ($6-8 lunch specials, baby!) for weekday lunches if you work in the area. Also, since it's relatively new and under the radar, there's no lunch-time rush, and you can get seated and served really fast. The food itself isn't THE BEST I've ever had, but is definitely 4-stars good. The menu is really extensive (and vegetarian friendly!), with an option to match your every mood -- and also features boba at all times of the day! Definitely, definitely go here for lunch over Feng Shui for better and faster service, food, AND value for money (which is saying a lot since Feng Shui is all you can eat)! read more

PHO for you PHO for me! I love beef Pho ( noodle soup). I always get the extra large beef noodle soup and have them add beef balls to the order. ( I usually have them exclude tendon and tripe as a personal preference). The soup is a very rich broth that when you add the fresh ingredients from the package makes this amazing. I love the strawberry bubble tea with the tapioca balls. ( bubbles ) We have eaten from this location more than 10 times so I'm happy to give them a positive yelp review. We decided to give Pho Da Lat since we had driven by it several times and we love pho. We should have kept driving. The service was on the average side but overall friendly. We tried a Vietnamese vegetable crepe which was large, and plentiful for two. It really could have served as a small meal. The pho was plentiful in size but lacked flavor. As soon as it was serviced, all I could smell was what seemed like boiled chicken. And this is exactly what it tasted like. The pho broth had no flavor at all. When I asked if they could add spice, I was directed to the sirachi sauce on the table. The chicken tasted liked boiled chicken was it was not cleaned well. Good think I got extra noodles...because that was all I ate from the bowl. I left still having a craving for pho:( read more

I love Pho Da Lat, and have only ever been to the one on Chelmsford St or Drum Hill. We've never really had any problems from those two locations, but tonight I just tried the one on Middlesex St, and NEVER EVER AGAIN. My husband went to pick up their version of Bah-Baw (a Khmer rice porridge dish, usually eaten for breakfast or when sick) for me since I am sick, and we decided to try them since they are much closer than the other two locations. I should've listened to the warning signs in the back of my mind about other people's experiences! He paid about $9 for this... Not as upset at the price as I was about what they actually gave me and what they didn't. I posted a picture of the soup in the container, which was only HALF full. No bean sprouts, nothing else accompanied it. $9 dollars for this @#$%?! HELL NO. He went back to try and get his money back and they told him they had already emptied out the cash drawer and was getting ready to close. They filled it up a little more, but the container still wasn't full, and added a small bag of bean sprouts. Looked like the container had more broth than soup contents. But the fact that he had to DRIVE back to tell them to do that in the first place makes me so angry. We will NEVER go back to this place and I hope this stops anyone else from having any bad experiences from them as well. This place can go screw! read more

Outstanding. Everytime I come here, I have their noodle soup which comes with flank, tendons, bean sprouts, jalapeños, etc.. A medium portion will fill you up. Powerful, flavorful and probably the nearest thing to a healing potion. You come out refreshed and ready for war. I've turned many to this gem of a Viet food place, and everyone's loved it. When I lived in Lowell (until 2008), this was my main place to go. The food is ALWAYS delicious and the staff are gracious and the service is great. Their specialty when I was there was the beef soup. HUGE bowl, with thin slices of beef and a large plate of FRESH vegetables. The bean sprouts and the basil are the ones that come to mind first. No matter what time of the year, it always seemed that they had gone out back to a secret garden and picked these veggies just before putting them on the plate. Prices are very reasonable. You cannot go wrong at Pho Da Lat!! I now live in NYC and have not yet found a place to equal it. read more

As a naitve Lowellian I've always known that the city has one of the largest populations of southeast asians and is spotted thorughout with restaurants offering authentic cusine from this cultually rich and exotic area of the world. However, It wasn't until recently that i came to the realization that i have yet to really try any of it (save for one time about nine years ago when i went to Vietnamese buffet, tried some hot sauce, and burned my taste buds into blackened specks barely able to feel the gallons off water that washed over them for the subsequesnt three hours). : ) In an effort to rectify this agregious oversight i decided on Pho Da Lat. The ambiance is absolutely Vietnam in its feel. Quaint, friendnly and more laid back than any chinese restaurant i've tried to date. We were greeted immediately by waters with lemon slices. I dont know exaclty why, but there is just something about that extra flare that provides a sense of genuine hosptiality to me. It just says "welome". The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, that include vegitarian, beef, chicken, pork and, of course, seafood of all types (lobster anyone?). They have a few "bizarre food" offerings such as stripped duck feet and jellyfish soup. Our tastes being more Bourdain than Zimmerman, my companaion and i decided to stick with the more conventional options. They offer Vietnamese and Chinese cusine but the chinses aspects have a very Vietnamese twist. For example, the wonton soup contains more scallions than any wonton i've had, onions are added which, along with the thinly sliced chicken seems to make it a more hybrid Pho dish than strictly wonton. The spring rolls are not the deepfried grease sticks we're accustomed to but vermicelli and vegatables rolled in a thin rice wrap, served with a sweet, delicous peanut sauce that has to be tasted to be believed. The entrees are served in moderate portions but priced accordingly. I noticed a lot of onions in these various selections. Me like. You gotta appreciate the French influence on Vietnamese food (after all there would be no Pho without it). The lemongrass beef was served with a good portion of peppers, onions and an every-so-slightly spicy sauce with an undestated sweetness that compliments each other like yin and yang on the saturated pallett. My companion had the chicken and chinese brocolli with a rather bland sauce in my view, but she liked it. The chinese broccolli looks like spinach on a stem but tastes more like celery in its after taste and is just as crisp. Both dishes were served with a nice ball of rice that can be broken up easily and eaten with chopsticks. Oh yeah, i can rock those! Though i did not partake this time out (still recovering from being...on a boat!) they serve alcohol and have a nice wine selection. I would definitely recommend this place for first timers to the world of authentic souteast asian food. A nice place to start transiton from typically american chinese food to more genuine asian cusine. I liked it...da lat! read more

This is my hands-down favorite Pho restaurant in the New England area. While every vietnamese restaurant (even those without "pho" in their name) generally have an acceptable version of this standard beef noodle soup, I've felt that Pho Da Lat's beef broth has richness of flavor and an extra layer of complexity that is unmatched. My standard is a medium bowl with rare steak and tendon -- NOM. Other favorites are the bun (vermicelli) with grilled pork, the pho ga (chicken noodle soup) and the fried rice, which I must sheepishly admit I love like crack on a stick. (even though the inclusion of chinese sausage originally confused me) The restaurant itself is bright and the staff has always been friendly and attentive. Back when I worked in North Chelmsford, I would regularly eat here for lunch at least once or twice a week. These days, I miss it enough that I'll still occasionally make the 30 minute drive here rather than go somewhere closer. read more

Have been here many times as well as the neighboring Pho place in drum hill. Both are OK the food being an 7-8 generally. Da Lat however needs to update their wet and borderline bathrooms. Waitresses generally disappear after food is delivered so long wait to flag them down for water refills or getting the check. We've been going back and forth between Pho 88 and both Pho Da Lat locations for two years now. Pho Da Lat is the more consistent of the two. I have never had a bowl of salty broth here. The portions may not be as big, but each bowl comes with chili pepper, you don't have to ask for it. The utensils are clean and the decor nice enough to take out of town visitors. This restaurant is my favorite in Lowell. There are some outstanding places in Dorchester if you are willing to venture out a bit. read more

The food here is great! Came here a few months ago and had a basic bowl of chicken pho. I couldn't finish it, the serving was so big. It's a nice little restaurant right near Middlesex Auto and Eastern Photo. Parking can be a little difficult to come by (and watch out backing out onto Middlesex street, unless you have a good car insurance policy with a low deductible), and you may have to flag your server down a few times. But all and all, the food quality is great and a place you should try out. read more

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Lowell. As always I'm always greeted courteously by the wait staff. I usually order the chicken lemongrass and if u do u will not regret it. I also love their chicken noodle soup, the portions are always more then one can eat and the quality is tremendous! In addition I would also order an avocado shake, and one can definitely taste fresh avocado that is so creamy and fulfilling. Defintely going to recommend to anyone I know. read more

When you're not feeling well, I really recommend grabbing some of their many choices of soup! Whether to go or to eat in these soups are massive and delicious. I got mine to go and they give all the fixings for it. Broth is separate, meat in one container, bean sprouts in another, fresh basil, etc. And you do it the way you want, just like if you were to eat in. They keep it pretty warm for you, so when you get home the temperature of the soup is pretty good, depending on how far you need to drive. Overall the take out is really good!! Truthfully the food was okay, I had the pho and my sister had the fried rice. Nothing really special about the food here. The pho broth was okay and the fried rice was okay too. It was like as if the food was lacking on salt or other flavors. But I thought the decorations and such were a bit interesting. If you're really hungry, this isn't a bad place to stop on by. Especially if the place down the street is very busy. But if you're looking for something to blow you away, another restaurant might do better. read more

Very disappointed in the pho at this location. Last week, I ordered the wonton and yellow noodle pho at the Drum Hill location. It was fabulous. Tasty, lettuce was fresh and wonton were good. Tonight, I ordered take out from the Middlesex st location. I got fewer wontons and they were poorly made ( fell apart). Lettuce was rusty looking. This is by far the best meal we've had in quite a long time!! We were greeted promptly and cheerfully and our waiter was very helpful. I was looking for a Vietnamese dish I'd had years ago and he confirmed it right away. We had two appetizers: The crispy pork spring rolls were delightfully light and crunchy (not greasy at all). We followed that up with spicy chicken wings, which had just the RIGHT amount of spice to give you nice heat, but allow you to keep tasting all the other ingredients. They are tossed in a flavorful spicy glaze and topped with julienned vegetables and jalapenos....simply delicious. If you love buffalo wings, but are looking for a little departure, try these. My husband had the beef and meatball pho, which he enjoyed. The accompaniments (sprouts, basil, etc.) were very fresh and inviting and the broth was flavorful. The pho portion sizes are generous. I had a wonderful dish from the Rice Plates section (#35 on the menu). This is a dish I had years ago and really wanted to have again, although I was worried that it wouldn't live up to its memory. It definitely did! It starts with steamed rice, a lovely, barely-sweet glazed pork chop, topped with a fried egg, which provides another little sauce. It's served with crisp lettuce, julienne carrots, and cucumbers (which I loved), and julienned pork skin (which I don't care for, but no matter). First, drizzle some delicate fish sauce over....then take a bite with the tender pork, moist rice, rich egg, and crunchy veggies. It's such a lovely combination, you really want to savor every bite! I love languages, so I wanted to know how to properly say the name of the dish I ordered. The waiter was gracious in this as well as the service of the whole meal. My bf and I were looking for something open on a late Sunday night and ended up here. After all these years coming to pho dalat nothing's been updated inside. Other than the old decor, food was great; highly recommend drunken noodles probably my all time fav! Waitress was kind and made sure we were well taken cared of. (Asian places really lack customer service)Only thing I would like to add was I thought it was a bit bizarre that 2 cans of soda was $6 and I was also charged for chili oil which I thought was weird since most places has it out for you. About 9 months ago I went on a dinner date to Pho Da Lat. It was my first time being there, but we both liked Pho and he said this place was the best -- I have to agree! First and foremost the staff here are friendly and accomodating. You are greeted with a smile and a soft tone. If you require something they don't act like you are bothering them and in fact they come by to see how everything is - a hostess standard which is lost these days. The atmosphere is bright and very clean.The menu is great for first timers to Viet. food as it explains what each of their many dishes are. They also have fresh shakes and great sparkling limeade. The food is flavorful and generous, always fresh. Fantasic springrolls and tender meat. Never an issue here - you will always be satisfied. We have gone back many times since, tried some other pho places and in the end returned to the best and the original :) We ate our 9mo anniversary dinner there and ordered the same things. The place still lived up to the same high standards it set for itself some time ago. Will always be a place I return to, tell others to try and hold in high regard. read more
