    House Special Pho

Definitely middle of the road Pho, flavor was OK and plenty of it, but I've had much better. I wasn't overly impressed with the location and staff did not seem very concerned about their customers. Had to ask for napkins, and something besides water to drink. Because of the large portion of food and it was reasonably priced, I gave it three stars instead of two.

Cantonese fried noodle. Why is noodle so soft?
    Allan L.

Speed read: 1) Chinese food restaurant with a small Vietnamese offering. 2) Cantonese fried noodle (Noodle are soft and not crispy) 3) Don't waste your time and money. I rarely give one star review especially in Bolton, as I should not compare small town food to big city food. I didn't order pho, but ordered the Chinese food. There's a different between Fusion and bad Chinese cooking. 1) Cantonese fried noodle that didn't have crispy noodle 2) Spicy chicken is not spicy, and look and taste like sweet and sour chicken 3) Shrimp with pineapple cashew has zero cashew, and we have to ask and they said they forgot. The dish looks like it's make with the same ingredient as the Cantonese fried noodle. We didn't get too many shrimp either. See the picture and decide for yourself. I also don't appreciate the $3-$4 coffee. There's a Starbucks across the street.

The menu unfurls with impressive breadth, moving well beyond expected pho into simmered specialties that reward the adventurous diner. Service throughout was attentive and unhurried, the sort of hospitality that turns newcomers into regulars. What lingers most is the room itself. Disco lighting fixtures and a tucked away stage lend the space an unexpected theatricality, as though it were built for celebration rather than mere sustenance. Despite the family's expansion into a sleeker downtown outpost, this original location retains a lived in charm no polished interior could replicate. The broth carries real depth and fragrance, the noodles handled with care, and the accompanying plates, from crisp spring rolls to grilled specialties, arrive with the consistency that keeps a neighborhood loyal for decades. If there is a critique to offer, it is only that the restaurant's understated exterior undersells the warmth and quality found within. This is Vietnamese cooking presented without pretense: generous, comforting, and utterly sincere. Pho Ngoc Yen earns its reputation through steady, quiet excellence, and it remains a destination worth returning to again and again.

A couple hiccups this visit: * We were excited that there was a booth open, look like someone had just left. We had to wait however for maybe 10 minutes before someone came to clean it so we could get settled in. * We asked for warm tea and were given cold tea twice. There was ample parking so that was not an issue. We walked in and were seated quickly. Menus were given and then no one came back. We were left with an order sheet so we were trying to figure out what to do. There was no explanation given. So we wrote what we wanted on the order sheet and asked an employee if we could order. She took our order and our food came out in a few minutes. The egg rolls were okay. The Pho was decent, but didn't have a very complex, flavor. I will say the portion of meat was unexpected, more than what I receive at my Pho restaurants back home. The taste was average pho to me. My son enjoyed it and ate every bit of it. When it came time to pay, no one came with a bill, so I went to the counter and paid. It would be nice if when seated they would ask if it was your first time visiting so they know whether to explain how their ordering/payment process works.

Our waiter was quick to seat us, take our order, and even refill our tea. I love the ambiance. They usually play playful pop music, and the interior is just so cozy especially if you manage to snag one of the booths. The food is always top notch. I like to order a large soup for the table and some shrimp cold rolls to start. This place is very affordable and portions are great. I decided to give Skip the Dishes a delivery try, saw this restaurant's menu, and ordered. I ordered from Skip the Dishes a second time, but from a different restaurant, and both places let me down. I ordered again from Pho Lang Viet and the food stopped my hangry state in its tracks. Both times, I ordered item B7. You basically get a spring roll and your choice of a grilled protein with vermicelli. The spring roll has ground pork, shrimp, vermicelli, taro, shiitake mushrooms, and vegetables. It comes with fish sauce. I got grilled chicken on my vermicelli. I ordered more spring rolls the first time. I also added a coconut bubble tea with coconut jelly. I changed things up with my second order and got fried chicken wings. B7 is absolutely delicious. The portion size is generous. The grilled chicken is moist and flavourful. The vermicelli is perfectly cooked. The veggies were crispy. The spring roll was so crispy and delicious. Mix in the fish sauce and it is the most comforting dish in the world. I ordered it the second time and I felt the same way. The spring rolls are huge. I actually had them for breakfast the following day because I was stuffed. They were even more flavourful! The crispy chicken wings are buttery, crispy, and delicious. I could eat them all day. Yum! I loved the coconut bubble tea with coconut jelly. It tasted like dessert in a cup. It had coconut cream mixed in. It was a cross between a milky bubble tea and a slush drink. It was so good. The coconut jelly kicked it up several notches on the coconut goodness scale. I was actually sad when I finished it. I highly recommend this place. I will need to stop by and check the restaurant out. I will definitely return for more food and bubble tea. (475)

Tips: - This place takes debit and cash only…read more - The hot tea is scorching hot. A couple of Wednesdays ago, after work, I had an early dinner at this Pho Anh Vu on Highway 7 in Vaughan, between Keele and Jane streets. I have passed by this eatery a number of times since it opened. It was time to check it out. This location used to be Veg Italiano. There used to be a pho place a few doors down. It is now a Turkish eatery. This small plaza does have some turnover. However, the Turkish place and this eatery have been here for at least a couple of years. I hope they remain. I got here at around 3:30 pm. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I backed into a vacant one and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a male staffer. I got to sit wherever I wanted. I chose a booth by the window. I got menus to peruse. There were two other tables with customers. It was nice. Hot tea came to me with two cups. The hot tea was exceptionally piping hot. I used both cups to pour tea into them and let them cool. I was ready to order. It took a long time to get a server to come over. The woman at the counter noticed that I was ready and flagged the male server to take my order. I got these items: - Soda lemonade - Grilled chicken on vermicelli with spring rolls My soda lemonade came first. It was fizzy, cold, and refreshing. I loved it so much. I would get it again in a heartbeat. It also helped me down my food as I waited for my hot tea to cool down. When my tea was finally at a temperature that wouldn't scorch my tongue, it was fragrant and yummy. I loved the grilled chicken. It was flavourful and grilled to perfection. The vermicelli was generous and yummy. The spring rolls were stuffed and crispy. This dish came with dipping sauce that I ended up pouring on everything. I feel that I needed more of it. I paid at the counter with a debit card. I tapped and was good. This eatery got busy after 4 pm. My guess is that everyone came to watch the Canada-Switzerland FIFA game. It got tense in the place. Eventually, Canada lost this game. I used the washroom before I left. It was beautiful and clean. It's a decent location that serves good food. The tea was too hot. Service started off slow, but was a lot better once my order was place. I'd love to return to try more items off the menu. (280)

Service was relatively fast despite it being very busy. Team was friendly and knowledgeable. A little bit of communication would have been nice, just got the "it's coming" the two times I asked about where it was, no timeline or anything. Spring rolls were kind of bland, no real flavour - however the crunchiness hits the spot. Bun bo hue when it arrives is truly amazing! The perfect amount of spice - makes you sweat a bit without killing you - you can still taste everything you're eating! I do prefer Toronto's Pho Anh Vu over the Vancouver location, somehow the Bun Bo Hue doesn't hit the same over here.
