My cousin and I went for dinner one weeknight as I didn't know what to cook for dinner. We got there before 7 pm and there might have been only 1-2 other tables. We were seated by the windows in a booth, so that was fine. I don't remember any music in the background and it wasn't noisy as some places can be. The waiter came over fairly promptly but we weren't quite ready to order. When we were ready, I ordered a medium seafood pho and a mango slush with boba. My cousin ordered the pho with blood, pork and chicken, which was spicier than regular pho. I can't remember the name, but he has ordered that type of pho before when we've gone out. He also ordered the spring rolls. There was 3 to an order for those. The wraps were a little sticky, so they may have been sitting for a bit before they were served. Hii world! :) Decided to switch it up and try a new pho spot! My brother found this place in the same plaza as Sweet Hut, so we pulled up to check it out. It was pretty busy when we got there, which is usually a good sign. My brother went with the #1 Pho Combo, and I got the Banh Mi Combo. Of course, I had to try the pho broth, and honestly... ehhh, 6/10. It just wasn't as flavorful as I hoped. My brother liked his a little more and gave it a 7/10. Now, the Banh Mi Combo--I rated it 8/10. The bread was soft and fluffy, which I loved, but the meat was sliced super thin, so it felt like mostly veggies. The flavor definitely saved it, though! We also ordered some smoothies, and let me tell you... they took forever to come out. By the time I got mine, I was already stuffed. I got the Melon Wave Smoothie, and it was sweet--like 8/10 sweet. Terrible owner and staff. Ordered my kids a 3 chicken fried rice with no vegetables. When it came out it had carrots and peas in them. My friend and I decided to try out this place for the first time. The inside has very stylish and had cute decor. I also really liked how our food was served. My friend and I got the Tofu Banh Mi. Our sandwiches were served in this cute little woven boat-shaped basket. The sandwich tasted good, but there wasn't enough filling inside. I liked the pickled veggies, but the ratio of bread to filling wasn't even. There was alot of bread. Nothing wrong with the bread, I liked how crispy and flaky it was but I wish I had more veggies and filling to match the bread. Where is the zero star? I got a small pho and there was not enough broth in my pho.. I asked for some broth and the owner/manager said it's $2.50 charge for extra broth... wait a minute? They were nice, but they were very small. They are about half the size in length and width a standard roll. It's not bad, just small. Wish they made them bigger. Next, looked forward to my spicy bun. Finally Pho Bac near me! This place opened a month ago so it's clean and beautiful inside! It's located in the plaza off Pleasant Hill Rd. Next to the Sweet Hut. Summer is here and I always opt for the Bún with chargrilled pork and egg roll. It was very good. My hubby had the pho but it wasn't hot enough. It had great flavor though. For dessert we tried the Che Thai. Assorted jellies and fruits in coconut milk and topped with chipped ice. It was yummy and something I would come and order on its own during a hot day. This is a modern, aesthetically pleasing pho restaurant located off Pleasant Hill Rd in the same plaza as Sweet Hut. They also have another location in Doraville which is the original. I grew up loving Pho Bac because my parents would take me there all the time. But ever since they changed chefs, it really has not been the same for me. So when I saw they opened up this location, I decided to give it a try. The food was alright but the service is lacking. I've been here three times already. I find it difficult to get the staff's attention and they don't really check up on you if you need anything. When I went with my mom, they forgot to bring out the herb dishes for our pho and egg noodle soup. I also ordered to-go and when I got home, I noticed I was missing an item. Pho: order a medium, they give a lot of noodles, I feel that there isn't enough soup if you don't eat the noodles fast enough. Broth is good, not too salty or overpowering. Grilled pork banh mi: sooooo delicious. The pork is tender and well seasoned. Just wish the jalapeño was a bit spicier. Grilled pork and eggs with rice: the meat is the same as in the banh mi. Eggs are well done, should've requested it to be runny. The pickled vegetables didn't taste good to me. Vietnamese coffee: lol this is probably the strongest coffee I have tasted. Pho is pho. You can't really mess it up per se. If there is an imbalance of the spice ratio and the aromatics, you might cause a bit of an off balance to the richness and luxuriousness and warmth that the broth brings. Also, too much MSG can affect the experience as well. That being said, I had to give this new pho place a shot. It's not a new restaurant per se since it's literally a nationwide chain and there's already one in Chamblee but they have a very high reputation across the nation. I recall one of their restaurants who served pho w/ wagyu beef. UNFORTUNATELY, they didn't have it here at this location so I'm a bit disappointed with that but the reason for the three stars was not because of the lack of wagyu beef, but everything else regarding the noodle soup. I wasn't as hungry so I opted for the medium size which isn't like me at all but it was enough to wet the palette and therefore fill me with whatever I had empty. I will say, their meat quality is top notch. Most flank meat is tough and chewy and takes away from enjoying the dish but here, the meat are all super tender and flavorful as far as meat goes. They don't give you very much tripe which is a bit disappointing and my bowl didn't have the meat balls in there either which was another disappointment. But the rib-eye and flank as well as the tendon were all well done. But the broth. The broth was oddly bland yet has an extra sharpness from MSG. Normally the chili garlic would add a new layer of depth but this with this bowl, there wasn't anything I could do to save it. It's like, I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was but the broth was not the rich, luxurious, hearty, warmth, enveloping your soul type of broth I've been used to with other pho joints. This was just a big "meh" to me. Nothing really exciting about it. So why the three star? Because with Pho, it's ALL ABOUT THE BROTH! If you can't enjoy the broth, it's not worth it! Sure the meat might be nicely portioned out but the meat absorbs that broth and if the broth isn't exciting, neither is the meat. The whole bowl was "tolerable" at best. I can safely say, that while everything else was great; the atmosphere was poppin', the decor was pretty chill yet hip to be in, and the service was quick. They probably should pay a little more attention to which tables left so they can clean them properly for the next guest but when I was there, it seemed like their were short staffed. The food and service is usually good, but today the service was subpar and the food was a bit dry. I ordered food from their website and when I came to order, it was not ready because they never received it. I showed them my receipt, but they would not honor it. I had to put in another order because I was already there and didn't want to driver anywhere else and will have to call my credit card company to remove the other charges. I will definitely not be back. This used to be my place to get Vietnamese. I would come here every Sunday to eat, but not anymore. As for the food, the fresh spring rolls were dry. The rice paper seemed old and the grilled chicken didn't have that full flavor it usually did. The combo platter with grilled shrimp did taste as good as it usually does. This is our first time at this place. It is a different experience. We were greeted and seated as we walk in. No waiting. It id not very busy considering this place is packed with competitors. I like checking the bathroom. It is a reflection of the establishment. The ambiance have a Vietnamese wall decor. Food arrived in minutes. Bao is an awesome server. She had our food in no time. I love the one from Chamblee and was very excited when there is one open in Duluth. It was great the first time I came. I even ordered one to-go after that. But when we came back the second time, every order we had went wrong. The pennywort drink we ordered came out looking yellow! I tried to confirm with multiple servers and they kept trying to tell me that was pennywort drink!!! If you don't know, please do not lie! Nice clean restaurant in a busy strip mall full of other Asian restaurants. I tried the shaking beef and the beef pho. The shaking beef was nicely cooked with a lot of wok hei. The fried rice was underseasoned but not something that a little salt couldn't fix. The pho had a clean flavor and tasted of minimal MSG compared to all the other pho restaurants around here. I've been going to this location since it opened and have noticed the service quickly go downhill. The quality of the food doesn't seem the same, food portions seem smaller too. The cleanliness is the biggest issue: tables are left dirty for a long time after customers have left so sometimes you'll walk in and half the tables have dirty dishes left on them, the tables feel sticky, the bathroom is gross and smelly. I noticed an employee didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom, this is the occasion when I noticed how dirty the women's bathroom was. It was comparable to a night club bathroom, super sticky floors. The food used to be amazing and is now just okay, I hope the service gets better! read more
