I'm needing this pad thai right now

Nice place to visit. Friday at 615 it was about 75% full but we found a seat quickly. We were served water immediately and had an appetizer of spring rolls that came quick. Or meals were ordered and they also came out quickly. I enjoyed my chicken pad thai and spring roll. We left with a little leftovers full and happy. Great experience

I visited Pho 85 for the first time on Saturday a little before noon, not too long after they opened. Once I got inside, I was immediately greeted and sat down. The layout is consistent with many pho restaurants, but what set this place apart was how clean and well-organized it was. Even as the lunch rush began to pick up, it didn't feel cramped or overcrowded. Restrooms were very clean too. I ordered a large rare steak and meatball pho. They have small, medium and large, and have display bowls for you to make the appropriate choice. I also ordered a Thai tea. The pho and Thai tea came out within 10 minutes or so. There was a generous helping of pho and a side plate of fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime and jalapeños. I especially appreciate how they did not skimp on the toppings (some places aren't as generous and may even charge for extra). The pho broth was hot and fresh, there was a generous helping of steak and meatballs, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The flavor was amazing. The best pho I've had in a long time. The Thai tea was the delicious, too. I had more than enough pho to take home. I also had some trouble putting my pho in the to go container (even made a bit of a mess) and a staff member quickly rushed over to help and was so gracious about it. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone. I definitely plan to visit again and hopefully take advantage of some of their other menu options. If you're looking for a nice place to enjoy yummy pho for a great value, this is your place! Customer service is great, food is delicious, and you get more than your money's worth. Give Pho 85 a try, you won't regret it, I promise!

Pho 85, located in a small plaza in Ankeny, is a nice little joint for pho and other Vietnamese food. I've been coming here for a few years now, but have only recently visited again after a couple years away. The pho is good. It gets the job done and has good flavor. Noodles seem to stick together a little too much but not too big of a deal. Again, the flavor is where it makes its name. In my opinion, needs very little extra flavoring, but I do love my fish sauce. The included tendon is also great. Not sure you'll find better tendon than here. Also had the boba tea but I've had much better elsewhere. Also, the bahn mi sandwiches seemed lacking. I'm sure there's other good items on the menu, but I personally just stick to the pho. Service is really nice, attentive, and quick. Came in for a quick lunch and I was in and out in maybe 20 minutes. Overall, I'd recommend if already in the area and craving pho. But, I wouldn't drive across town for it.

Great pho. Broth had fantastic flavor. Would recommend getting the large vs any other size. This was our first time eating here and would go back again!

Ate here this afternoon and I'm mixed on my review. I'll start with the food. My potstickers and Chicken Pho' Soup were both very good. The service was alright, nothing special. Was seated by a young girl that had to be only 10 years old or so. Now the restaurant itself is typical of a low end strip mall Asian eatery. Not very welcoming nor comfortable. Be aware that if you are planning to eat here that they do not offer drink refills on ANYTHING other than water. I mistakenly ordered a $4.00 lemonade thinking refills would be available. While not a deal breaker, it was a huge disappointment...

My husband and I stopped here on our way through town. It's not far from the interstate, which was convenient. We ordered spring rolls, a pork bahn mi, and a bowl of seafood rice noodle soup. The spring rolls were perfect, fresh, and delicious. The soup was pretty boring in my opinion. My husband loves light seafood soups, so he really enjoyed it. To me, it was incredibly bland. Unlike pho, the broth had basically no flavor. The seafood included two over cooked shrimp, one mussel, two squid rings, a few pieces of imitation crab meat, two fish meatballs, and some noodles. I added sriracha and hoisin but it was still too boring of a soup for me. The best part was the fish meatballs and there just weren't enough of them. The pork bahn mi was easily one of the best I have ever had, even though it was really tiny. The pork was piled high and accompanied by fresh veggies. It was seriously so good that I only ate a tiny bowl of the bland soup and ordered a second bahn mi that I wouldn't have to share with my husband. I would be back for this sandwich alone, and next time I would order pho, as I am confident that it would be delicious.

I'm ashamed to say I've lived in Ankeny for 15 years and had never stepped foot in Pho 85. Luckily, tonight that changed! My husband generally needs convincing to try somewhere new so I was pretty excited when he agreed to go! I have the combination vermicelli noodle bowl and pork dumplings, while my husband had the vermicelli noodle bowl with chicken and Vietnamese egg rolls plus a Vietnamese coffee. I really enjoyed my food and my husband said he would go back! I am very new to pho and Vietnamese food in general so I was taken aback by the lettuce..but rolled with it. The place was very clean, exceptionally quick service and had tons of to go orders being picked up! Go support our restaurants and tip well!

Pho is not authentic Viet. Broth and flavor is mediocre. Service so so. Truck driver passing through so I didn't have many options - but I do know my Asian food (Viet and Chinese).

If you're lucky, there will be a place to sit and enjoy the delicate and complex pho. Pho sides are fresh and plentiful. Love this place.

Always quick and good quality pho - not watered down and flavorless like some. Great option for takeout as well. Friendly staff.

I knew we were in the right place when we walked I. And half of the restaurant were Vietnamese peeps. Was a warming experiencing hearing patrons throw a few traditional Lunar New Year greetings at each other and the owners. It's a small mom and pop shop, so much so, pop was the sole soldier working the entire front of the house. As such, don't expect super fast service, but good service nonetheless. We started with the fresh spring rolls, which were good, and their fried egg rolls, which I probably won't order again. The egg rolls were pretty much veggies, loosely filled, and served with a sweet and sour type dipping sauce. It was more of an Americanized Chinese style egg roll, not a Vietnamese cha gio with nouc cham. I ordered the pho dac biet and it was VERY good. The large is HUGE. Most places back home have suffered from shrink-flation and large bowls are tiny now. Not this place, I struggled to finish the bowl. My friends got the seafood pho, and another got the pho ga (chicken). I of course did not slide my chopsticks in theirs and swipe a bite, but they said they enjoyed theirs. I would definitely come back here again and maybe try some of their other dishes.

It's conveniently located in the strip mall with plenty of parking..it's the same mall off of University with Campbell's health foods, Hy-Vee pharmacy, Frederich's coffee. This restaurant still has that old time mom and pop Asian family feel it's a definite classic type vibe with Auntie snd the neices up front taking orders and the rest of the family in the back cooking and putting to go orders together. I always like to support a locally owned business. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient . It's also about being realistic about the food. This is not a mall based chain restaurant or a high end bistro somewhere. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. This is a Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. So there's lots of variety in the menu. I have had the build your own Pho, Korean style Kalbi ribs. They also have Hunan Chinese style dishes, i have tried Mongolian beef, combination fried rice and potstickers. I also have tried the pork fried egg rolls. I usually go for a late lunch early dinner. I talked to the owner and asked her how they made their soup and she said they boiled bones and added their own spices which is the traditional way to do things, I think they have a good soup base, all soup comes with sprouts and fresh Thai basil, I usually add bok choy, brisket and steak. They have plenty of other Vietnamese dishes too. I have enjoyed their pork vermicelli which is a cool salad type dish which is nice on a hot day. Some of my friends really enjoy their chicken wings. So there's still a good option with lots of choices, good staff and reasonable prices.

We got our order to go and took it back home. The spring roll was divine! The crab Rangoon and rolls were also good! The rice, was "end of day rice" . I would 100% go back and get more earlier in the evening. I highly recommend and will be back for more delicious spring rolls and try other thing. Char Kueh Teow This dish stood out immediately which has a smoky wok hei flavor (the "breath of the wok") coated the flat rice noodles, giving them that deep caramelized edge that's hard to find outside of Malaysia. The prawns were plump and juicy, and the mix of soy, garlic, and chili gave just the right balance of savory and spicy. Fresh cucumbers and pickled vegetables on the side added a refreshing crunch, making each bite balanced and addictive. Laksa Rich, creamy, and fragrant, the laksa broth was a highlight. The curry coconut base carried layers of spice without being overwhelming, and every sip warmed you from the inside out. The noodles were cooked just right, with toppings that tied it together from seafood to herbs. It's the kind of bowl that makes you pause between spoonfuls just to savor the aroma. Satay The chicken satay had a lovely turmeric and lemongrass marinade, grilled to a slight char that locked in the smoky flavor. Tender on the inside with crispy edges, it paired perfectly with the bold, nutty, and slightly spicy peanut dipping sauce. The cucumber slices on the side helped cut through the richness, just like you'd get back at a hawker stall in Malaysia. Overall Hawker Kitchen is a gem for anyone looking for authentic Malaysian comfort food in Des Moines. Portions are generous, flavors are bold and true to their roots, and the variety on the menu makes it worth repeat visits. If you're new to Malaysian cuisine, start with the satay and char kueh teow; if you're a fan already, the laksa will feel like home.
