We went to dinner at Pho 79 mid week around 5pm. There were very few guests in the restaurant and there was pop music playing over the speakers. Cozy and welcoming but with a modern feel. We had spring rolls, beef pho, chicken pho, and Thai tea. All were very good and served in a traditional style. The chopsticks and spoons are in a serve yourself dispenser but you can get to-go ones individually wrapped. Overall the food was very good. There was also an unlimited supply of Sriracha sauce and the jalapeño had seeds in. So if you like the heat, this is the place. Our servers were good, accurate, and the food arrived quickly. I'm not very familiar with the area - but had a doctor's appointment nearby and needed to grab a quick lunch. It was rainy and yuck outside, so I search up soup and this place popped up. The Pho 79 locations tend to be hit or miss, but I found one recently in Hampton that I like so I thought I'd give it a shot. This location was substantially less good - felt like a fast food joint with slightly fancier tables. It's fairly like a 2 1/2 stars. Service was really slow, and the flavor for the broth was pretty bland. I'm used to that deep, meaty feeling that seeps all through your bones. This felt strained and thin. I only got through about half of my portion and took the rest home - usually I destroy my leftovers, but when I reheated, it was even worse. I most likely won't visit this location again. The area seemed cool with lots of other shops/spots, so maybe if I'm here again in the future I'll try something else nearby. read more

We have been going here for years. Now, it is never busy. They may be going out of business. Today, the fryer was out. We had company, and they wanted to go to Pho's. The service was very slow. It seemed they were short of help. Half the items were not available. It took a long time for them to get the check. The food quality has gone downhill. My company was very disappointed. Salty Wonton Pho that I had to fix with Hossein sauce and Sriracha but still couldn't get over the brine. It overpowered my Pho. Hubby got the Pho Tai but it was salty as well so we suspect the broths got started with a base which is then heavily handed with more salt so impossible for anyone to appreciate the Pho flavor. We went Sunday Nov 17 and it seems like they're planning on going out of business. No alcohol available. No chili sate sauce...how can you not have the basics? We've been going for year but this time the broth was off for the veggie pho as well as the egg noodle seafood. Worst part is the seafood had the slight seafood smell and not the good smell and the broth was warm, not hot. The squid was soft not firm which means it was old. Luckily I didn't get sick. I really wanted to like this restaurant. It has a interesting menu with so many great choices, the service is very friendly and it's impeccably clean. The high ceilings give this restaurant an extra feeling of spaciousness. The most positive thing I can say is that the broths of the two soups we had were really quite flavorful (as long as they were hot). The broths where is good as any I've had a Vietnamese restaurant. I had a pho with squid, fish balls,shrimp with a pork based broth. My wife had beef based broth with so-called brisket and pieces of steak. In both cases the ingredients were were not at the same level as the broth. For the beef pho the quality of the meat was equivalent to Steak-Ums. There was no brisket to be found and all of the beef had the same processed texture. For the seafood pho, the shrimp,squid and fish balls were tasteless. Frankly, I've had much better Pho and I am really sorry to say this because again it was such a nice environment and nice service. If they could get the ingredients up to the quality of the broth this restaurant would be a real winner. read more

Came here while on vacation because of craving some Vietnamese food. First off, it was a bit difficult finding the location and the restaurant sign it diagonally and the door is at the corner of the street. Second, upon entering, we were greeted and told to pick our seats anywhere we'd like to sit. The waiter walked over to our table and provided us the menu. Few minutes later, we placed our orders. I have the vegetarian pho. I contemplated on order size small or large. My hubby convinced me to order the large and he can finish whatever I don't want to eat. My pho order came in reasonable amount of time. The first thing I noticed is all the veggies floating. There was definitely lots of broth in my bowl, however, once I begin stirring the noodles, I realized the bowl is just full of broth and very minimal of noodles. I was a bit disappointed. I've gone through many Vietnamese restaurants and have had a fair share of ordering pho. The amount of pho noodles here is similar to other small bowls at many places I've been to. The veggies were okay/decent amount. The broth is okay, not the very best I've had but not bad either. Overall, I'd like to give them more than 3 stars but just can't justify it with the mediocre food. Service is good though. Parking is off street and can be a bit challenging. read more

We were freezing cold after our visit to Busch Gardens so we decided to grab a hot bowl of pho. The restaurant is located in a really lovely outdoor shopping center. The dining area is spacious. My husband and I ordered egg rolls and the tai gan pho (#6). We both agreed the small bowl's portion was more than enough. He also ordered the deluxe banh mi. They did not skimp out on the meat for our entrees. However, the broth was not good at all. I am unsure what else they put it in it, but it definitely had too much sodium. Decent enough to get you by in a pinch on a gloomy day, but the broths are saltier than they should be and not nearly as flavorful as authentic pho should be. Prices are high for Vietnamese food and there always seems to be some staff sitting around listening to videos on their phones way too loud in the middle of the lobby (pretty rude). Haven't had Bun Bo Hue last couple of times I was there. Napkin holders and spoons always seem to empty (they are on each table in dispensers). Pho 79, is a nice place. It's a nice modern place with black floors and ceiling. You can choose and sit wherever you'd like. A nice variety in the menu, and an open bar if you want to get your drink on. We ordered some egg rolls and it came out hot and crunchy. It was definitely one of the better ones I've had. Spring rolls was fresh tasting. The pho, what we came for, was really good. We ordered a size small, but it still came with a lot! Definitely more than enough. It didn't taste weird or anything. They also serve banh mi, which if you know what it is, is a great option as most places don't serve this. It tasted fresh, and as good as I hoped. Pricing wise, it's pricier for some items than others. The pho was a bit more expensive, but they did give a lot and the price decrease on the other items makes up for the difference. Overall, a nice option if you're seeking to taste a bit of Vietnamese cuisine. The workers were more than happy to change certain items on the menu for my liking. We have 8 adults and 6 kids. We just walked into the restaurant with hungry tummy. We saw a large table that is available. No one come to greet us, so we stand there to look around for staff's eye contact. Then, a lady came to us. Right away she said they are short of staffs, only two people in kitchen and two people work out here. She said many customers didn't get their food yet and I don't know how long you have to wait. Then she walked away. I think it is fine to tell customers about the situation and see if the customers okay to wait. But the way that she talked to us is totally not acceptable. She means go away, leave the restaurant, don't eat here. It's my first time that someone denied to serve us in a restaurant. I am very disappointed and upset. Worst experience ever. read more

We gave this place 3 chances. After all, everyone has an "off day," right? The last time was the deal breaker. The food has always been average. The broths are weak tasting and watered down. Noodles are clumpy. We waited almost an hour for a takeout order of wonton soup. Apparently they ran out of wontons. Just tell us you're out of dumplings! It would've been fine! I could've ordered something different! After 40 minutes, we checked on the order and were told about the dumplings. The server said "they took care of it" but it still took another 15-20 minutes to actually get the order. This place has a corporate feel and not an authentic, friendly ambience. We have gotten the food to go and to sit down. The Pho is a solid choice regardless of how we get it. The location is nice give the other surrounding adventures. The inside is simple and kept clean by the staff. While there are times services may be slower than desirable, we were communicated with whenever there is an issue. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. And with the 5 star rating, it's a bit obvious how I feel about this place. For being one of the only pho places in town, it's got authentic cuisine, delicious meats, and the right sides to pair the dishes with. Going on a Saturday at 4 pm, there were very few people there but if the food is good, then I'll be happy. I ordered the #9 Large pho because it was the one dish that had tendon and tripe, both favorites of mine. It will filling and with the soups and everything, I felt a bit bloated afterwards too haha. The vegetables that they give are less than what most places would give but at least they aren't wasteful (you could probably ask for more but I haven't tried). Very clean, spacious pho restaurant in a cute little suburban area. There was street parking available on a Monday around lunchtime and there was not a lot of people roaming around which made the area seem very peaceful. There is a kungfu tea conveniently located across the street as well. The menu has a lot of different types of vietnamese soup selections which was a plus. I stuck with pho and got the #5 - the broth was a little darker than what I am use to. They were very generous with the meat portions, however, my broth was not hot enough to cook the eye round steak so it was still pink, which is fine to eat since its beef, but I like my broth hot! Also - for those with infants or little kids, the womens bathroom has a large and super clean diaper changing station! This was perfect since I was traveling with my baby and needed an area to change her. On other note - they seemed short staffed so service was a bit slow but we were not in a rush so this didn't bother us. I hope they are able to hire more people and wish them all the best! read more
