We came here a lot when it used to be Phubbs (years ago). I'm glad there's still a Pho place in the area, although at least there are other options, including the one near food lion in Odenton. Pho is quickly becoming my family's favorite dish :) We dropped in when a few family members weren't feeling well and needed a soup "pick me up". I ordered our soups and was amazed at how quickly things were ready. It was around lunch time on a Friday and the place was almost completely empty, which helped move things along I'm sure. We waited maybe 10 minutes. The spices and flavor were all what you come to expect from Pho. Making the broth is an all day process and why you can never recreate it exactly at home unless you put in the effort. I've made a few pots, but they never turn out anywhere as good- I'm not using bones and other things that I'm sure restaurants are. Why did I rate 3 stars? The price has increase. Inflation, so I get it. While it used to be $7 for a small bowl and $9 for big, I can deal with paying $13 for any option, even when it is just broth and noodles (which seems like it should be cheaper than all the other options). My quarrel is not only are you paying more, but you're also getting less broth. All of our containers were around 3/4 full. This meant there was not enough broth for all of the ingredients, meaning they were wasted. I get they don't want to fill it to the point where it is overflowing or will possibly leak out if spilled, but they should be providing enough where all the ingredients can be used. Losing customers by being stingy with the broth, which would only cost them a few cents more, isn't the best business model. read more

Stopped by since we were going to the Arundel Mills Mall and my in laws wanted to eat pho. I had the spicy noodle soup with pho noodles and we split the spring rolls and egg rolls. The rolls were okay and as expected. The noodle soup was decent. Lots of meat, fish cake and noodles. The soup flavor was okay, not too spicy but I have a high tolerance. The pho here is solid. My review is based on takeout. I'm sure the pho would've tasted even better if I dined in. I ordered a combination pho and my fiancée ordered a chicken pho, and I also ordered egg rolls. The egg rolls were almost the size of some Chinese takeout ones. Although bigger in size, the taste and flavor was not compromised. The bread I got with my order tasted like a French baguette, what I would expect from a banh mi. I toasted it and it was delicious. Dipped it in the broth too. The rare steak came in a plastic bag, and since the broth is not piping hot, I decided to cook the steak over the stove in a pan. I also ordered extra noodles. For my second round, I heated my combination broth over the stove and waited for it to steam, then added my noodles in until they separated. It definitely tasted much better hot. Next time, I will try the food dining in. When I picked up my food, I actually came 5 minutes earlier than the scheduled pick up time and the food was already on the table waiting for me. I was greeted by a nice gentleman who was sweeping the floors. The space was open but not very big. I used their bathroom and it was clean, which I appreciate. I was craving pho because I was feeling under the weather and was surprised to find that phubs had closed, having been replaced with Pho 5UP. We decided to give it a shot because it's still in a convenient location. The pros: we ordered takeout and it was still nice and hot by the time it got home. Hard to do with soup takeout. The price is definitely on the lower end for pho, which was also a plus. The cons: overall, I was pretty disappointed with the taste of the actual pho. The broth tasted very artificial and didn't have that herbal & aromatic yuminess that phubs veggie broth did. The vegetables were also very bland - no freshness and no flavor. I was in the area a couple of weeks ago and noticed that Pho 5UP had moved into the storefront which used to be Phubs & made a mental note that I should try it later. Today was later. I placed an order through their clover.com subsite, which suffers from a lack of information, which is common among restaurants utilizing Clover. I had to refer back to Pho 5UP's web site to determine what some of the menu items were, such as the COMBO #5, which I ordered, along with some crispy egg rolls. My order was ready on time and I was in & out in a matter of seconds. The egg rolls were decently-sized, crispy and stuffed full. The dipping sauce was a little on the sweeter side, with a more prominent sweet chili flavor & fish sauce undertone. That was actually pretty good, although the sweetness got to be a bit much toward the end. The COMBO #5, which I requested with no tripe & extra tendon. There was no tripe, but also no extra tendon :( It's not unusual for phở places to not honor that request though. Portion-wise, it's equivalent to a small bowl elsewhere, which is reflected in the price; I do wish that there was a large option so that I could have leftovers. All of the noodles, meats & onions were packaged in a ready-to-eat plastic bowl, with the raw meat in a tied baggie to keep it neat. Those all smelled & tasted fresh, which is occasionally a problem with some phở places. The vegetable bag contained the usual complement of bean sprouts, some slightly wilted basil, some slimy jalapeño slices, and a container of hoison. Sadly, no sriracha sauce was included & I ran out at the office. My biggest letdown was the broth, which wasn't very beefy and had a pronounced star anise flavor, which can be off-putting for some people. It had a decent mouthfeel from the emulsified fat, but it was nowhere near as flavorful as one would expect. I've made better phở broth at home. Overall, it's pretty decent, but not the best. More along the lines of 3 1/2 stars, but I rounded up to 4 to help their average. Given the choice between Pho 5UP and my regular local phở place, I'd likely go with the latter, even though it's slightly more expensive & their egg rolls are tiny. read more

Probably more like a 3.5, but I'll round it up since it is fairly new and there aren't many pho spots in the hanover area. Good pho in this area is tough to come by, and the Pho here is not bad. They give a good serving of meat, noodles and vegetables. The inside of the store is fairly spacious too. I was very pleased that they did not overcook the pho noodles, which some places do. Service was good too. I think Pho at Pho 5up was better than Phubs too, so overall, a positive. read more

Came for dinner during my afternoon shift, they were quick to seat us, serve us and the food came fast too. I was surprised with how good the thai milk tea was! The pho was fresh and hot and they were not greedy with the noodles either. The egg rolls were good and the sauce to compliment it was even better. Would definitely come again! read more

This used to be Phubs. Now it is part of a chain. As some who grew up eating pho in Vietnam and now cook it myself in the past 25+ years, I'm sad to see that many pho restaurants are deviating from the beefy pho flavor that used to be a signature of pho. I'd dare guess that pho restaurants now use less bones because of cost. Bowl size also shrank and price increases. This restaurant follows the trend that I described. I enjoyed it but I cannot whole heartedly recommend it. read more

Never coming back to this place again . I found not one, not two, not even three but at least seven bugs in my pho. We had 4 bowls of phos and for three of the bowls were bugs swimming. One of my daughter's friend spent most of our time just picking bugs out of one of our bowls. We informed them and they did give us new bowls but again, bugs were in them. No discounts were given. The chicken pho is excellent. The veggie pho was absolutely awful, it contained limp but fried tofu (steamed tofu would be better) and awful tasting onions with partially spoiled cooked carrots.
