Summary: Excellent food. Management and the kitchen seem to be a disorganized mess. Experience: I have been to Pho36 twice. Once during lunch (around 12:30) and another during dinner (around 6:30). They were very busy during dinner but lunch was not as busy. Both times, what we ordered and what was sent to the table were not the same thing. The second time I went, I ordered off the vegetarian menu and they gave me something with crab, shrimp, chicken and pork in it. The first time, the person I went with had something similar happen. The manager, who was at the cash register 4 feet away both times, never came to say anything to us. Our server apologized and went on to help the next person. When we finally got our food, it was delicious. amazing food. I don't think I will want to go back in awhile due to the kitchen service though. read more

We went on a Monday night an hour before close and had one of the best meals on the west side of Indy in a long time. Service was affable, menu was straight forward and very reasonably priced. We had a pork Bahn Mi, one of my favorite sandwiches and it was amazing. All the veggies were fresh and crisp, maybe could have used a few more Jalapenos but that is more a personal preference. Egg rolls were hot and crispy, nice filling. We both had the Rare steak and brisket Pho, it was delicious, be sure to add the accompaniments but leave the Hoisin and Sriracha on the side and add to individual bites. Moving back to Indiana was not on my 'want-to-do' list but here I am. Now what if I were to tell you that Pho 36 makes that move worth it? I had Vietnamese while I was down South and it was not the same. I was disappointed every time I stepped into a Vietnamese restaurant, longing for more flavor. Pho 36 is simplistic in its decor and so peaceful, their decor on the amazing food coming out of their kitchen. It's been awhile since I've gotten around due to work so pardon my juvenile names for what are amazing dishes on their menu. The egg roll noodle bowl complete with a plethora of bean sprouts is amazingly fresh, a mix of every kind of taste you could ever desire. Sweet and savory and sour and spicy. It's all in that huge bowl they place down in front of you that I don't imagine I could ever finish in one sitting. The bahn mi! It's become a bit of a fad in the past years to have bahn mi but you have to make it right. Crispy bread with a soft inside. The floral notes of cilantro. The sharpness of jalapeño. The sweetness of carrot and daikon. All coupled with amazing pate or pork roll or even a tofu option! And on days when I simply can't take the additional spice of jalapeño or I'm not feeling cilantro, the chef is always happy to accommodate. Even if the server does joke about adding extra cilantro every time I do it. Lol I love a personable staff! My brother is a fan of the clay pot (I think that's what it is?). It's so warming and delicious. My mom's favorite is the tofu bahn mi. Now that they have moved from Indy, I enjoy bragging about the delights of this place that I alone get to enjoy. Flavor of the stock was good! If I were to compare it to the other pho places I've been (around the Indianapolis area), I would say the flavor of the stock tops it. I ordered pho with beef and brisket. Now this is why I gave them 3 stars: the amount of "stuff" they put in was a bit scarce. They put in an adequate amount of noodles; the amount of beef and brisket, however, was very scarce. I took a look at the bowl and I could only see a piece of brisket, noodles, and the stock. Compared with the other pho restaurants, this place had to have given the least amount of "stuff" for the same price. Otherwise, food was good. Service was a mixture of "ehh" and good. I've been coming here with my wife for about three years now.. it's been the closest for good Pho since I've moved from California.. service is great .. my favorite is the #12 meat ball and rare beef Pho .. with a side of spring rolls are a must .. I'll say right off the start that I haven't had the PHO but I did come in one evening to order take out food and the entire order tasted old the food was very Bland the sauce was not even remotely good, one of the curry dishes tasted like the sprinkled tree into coconut milk and maybe water instead of maybe chicken broth in striated around it was gritty and just basically tasteless I will definitely not be back again but the wait service was fine pretty knowledgeable about the menu.. read more

I dined here on a Thursday evening with fellow Yelpers. This was my first time visiting. It's a small, cozy restaurant, and our group took up almost half of the place. I tried the spring rolls, pho with chicken, and a báhn mí. The food was served fast. We started with the spring rolls. They were okay, I liked the peanut dipping sauce better than the actual roll itself. I've only had spring rolls at one other Vietnamese restaurant, and I like that particular restaurant's rolls better. Next up was my báhn mí. It was really good. First time trying it, and decided to go with The Special: sliced pork roll, sliced pork, pâté, mayo, carrot, daikon, cucumber, jalapeño, cilantro. Very tasty. Now on to my pho. I've only had pho one other time, and it was in Ho Chi Minh City(aka Saigon Vietnam), so expectations were high, but met! I ordered the small, but it was plenty. They provided side fixings of basil, cilantro, sprouts, and limes. I could not finish my bowl, and brought most of it home. The broth was very flavorful, and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Olga and I went there Saturday 19 Aug 2017 at around 1:30. Service by the owner was excellent. My bahn mi (#64) had several large pieces of gristle, and the meat was tough. The baguette was soft and chewy, not the crisp crackly kind one would expect. The shrimp spring rolls (#1) were very good and the peanut sauce was a very good complement. The pho had good flavor and the noodles were a perfect consistency--cooked just right. The restaurant was clean and light, and it was evident that a lot of the customers are regulars. If I were in the neighborhood I would try it again, but I would not make it a destination. read more

I've been here many many times, but have neglected to write a review. I've eaten in the restaurant and I've had take-out. The owner is incredibly helpful and attentive. With my most recent visit I noticed that they have hired a server. She was nice enough, but doesn't know the menu and was somewhat flaky. I will let that go though. She is new and the owner was double checking and ensuring everything was enjoyable. The Pho is phenomenal. I've had it a couple other places and by far this was the best of the bunch. I personally like the chicken pho, but have had the meatball and the beef brisket. The broth is so flavorful. If you are going for the first time, get the Pho. Oddly the same Vietnamese song was played over and over and over during our recent visit at Pho 36. But, that did nothing to mar our dining experience. This place is wonderful. Absolutely delicious always! If you love pho this is your place. The owners are wonderful people.

For a long time Indy was lacking a "complete" pho restaurant, and now they have one. You don't have to drive very far from 465, or into a sketchy neighborhood, to find this bright, clean, simple place; it's in boring but safe Avon just past several rows of corporate box stores and across from a Walmart. Don't be deterred by the middle aged white guy at the counter who runs the place; he speaks fluent Vietnamese, and the restaurant has all the little touches of an authentic big-city pho joint you'd find in Seattle, Minneapolis, or other great pho towns. In addition to great pho tai (available in two sizes) you can get the vietnamese beef stew, vermicelli bowls, delicious bahn mi sandwiches, and bahn choux (cream puff pastries). The prices are very reasonable (5.99/7.99 for small/large pho). I have found with almost every Indy pho restaurant up until now, even the better ones, that there is always one or two significant details lacking that take away from the experience. Not here. Everything is spot-on, down to the sauce ramekins delivered with the soup, and the right amount of fish sauce in the pickling brine used for the veggies on the bahn mi. This place really doesn't look like much. When I walked in, I was incredibly skeptical. A friend of mine had recommended it though so I decided to give it a try. I got the standard bahn mi with the liver spread. The meat was rich and earthy. The vegetables were bright and crunchy. It has the perfect combination of sweet and heat from the slaw. The bread was light and airy with a crispy exterior. It's a small sandwich but for $3.99 is a great deal. I refuse to go to a place with pho in the name and not try their pho. It just wouldn't make sense. I got the roast beef pho. The bowl is huge! It comes with a plate of aromatic herbs and veggies that you can add at your leisure. The broth smells like heaven. No menus on the table, waited over 10 minutes for our order to be taken, and there were only 3 other tables filled with customers at 1:30PM. Mu husband ordered his usual plain Pho, and he said it was horrible. It also didn't look very appetizing either. It had huge pieces of uncooked broccoli and these thin large slice of carrot also floating on top.I had the curry chicken which was good, but definitely different than when I previously ordered it. Wednesday Dinner: Ordered Pho with Beef and Fried Plantains Walked into the small restaurant just before they got their dinner rush. I seated myself and was promptly waited upon. The server was great, he wanted to make sure to answer any questions I had, understanding that Vietnamese food is quite different than what a lot of people have had before. The menu was a little large, but most options were just variations of other items. After ordering, my food came out in no longer than 5 minutes. Like I said, I got in the restaurant just before the rush, so it might have been a fluke, but it seemed like other tables' food was being delivered quickly. The Pho was delicious and just the right temperature. I had to slow myself down, I was eating it so fast that I probably would have choked. The Fried Plantain was great, too. Fried to perfection with some nuts on top and smothered with an amazing coconut sauce. I had forgot how much I like a good plantain, but I was quickly reminded by the tasty dessert. Quick, inexpensive and friendly. Food was amazing and I definitely would recommend for people wanting to try Vietnamese food. The only thing I will say negative about the place is that the walls were pretty badly scuffed up from the tables. Not a big deal, but it's a bit of an eyesore. Food: 5+ Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Value: 4 The Springrolls here are unbeatable and frequently used as an excuse for Pablo and Panda to make the hour drive to Avon from Bloomington. When Pablo was in Spain for 4 months and flew in to see Panda, our romantic weekend together began with Springrolls awaiting him at the terminal (how sweet, I know!). Pho 36 is beautifully unconventional in many ways: It is in a tiny strip mall run by a white guy who occasionally likes to show off by yelling Vietnamese orders to the back for all to hear=p. The space is very small but clean and presentable- nothing special about the decor. However, the owner-operator is witty, fun and personable. People will walk in and he knows exactly what they want and joke around with them while they are waiting for their food. Food: we have been known to order more orders of Springrolls than we can carry out the door in one trip, and we always eat them all. This is a really good place. Unassuming, so don't expect much in the way of decor. It's a few tables in a white room with a counter and some pictures on the wall. That said, i go for the food and good service. I don't eat meat and there are quite a few veggie options here. They also will make spring rolls with out shrimp or pork upon request. I have been to places that will not do that and it's always disappointing. Of the Asian places I've been to , this is tied for top spot. It is a Owned/Operated by a local couple, and they are very pleasant & friendly! The Pho Portions are pretty big, and always extremely filling! I highly recommend the number 10, the Rare Beef pho, it is my absolute favorite! My wife loves it when I bring home the Spring Rolls, and their Pate Sandwiches. Food is fresh and very quick. The establishment is clean and orderly. However, if you're looking for southern pho or pho nam, this isn't the place. The pho broth is very simple and is served with a tough meat (I think it was lean flank), no brisket or other beef options, and garnishes are minimal. It took my husband and I a bit too long to finally try this place out. It's located in a little strip mall right off of US 36 in Avon. This was actually my first experience at Vietnamese food altogether. The owner was there to guide us through our choices, and he exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant when it had just opened. As someone from Hawaii with parents who were born and raised in Vietnam, I wasn't expecting much. However, I was proven wrong on many levels, and we have consistently gone back again and again for the good service and great food. Now on to the food reviews. I'm going to say right of the back that the pho is not worth driving to Avon for. The soup is surprisingly thin and rather flavorless, other than a slight overwhelming peppery taste, which does not accurately describe a good bowl of pho. I do not believe they use a traditional pho recipe, which is disappointing. This is the only reason this restaurant did not get 5 stars. For a place named after this dish, I expected it to be the star. However, the food gets much better after that. I can't turn down the appetizer, goi cuon, or the spring rolls. I would advise the shrimp and pork ones with a yummy hoisin/peanut dipping sauce. I could never admit this to my mom, but these rolls might best hers! All the other appetizers were also spot on for me. As far as entrees go, the cha gio (egg rolls) and vermicelli noodles is an amazing dish to try. The pork chops are also really good, as it is marinated in a phenomenal sauce. The bahn mi sandwiches are not as great as I'd like, but it's hard to be picky in Indiana. This is a locally owned and run restaurant that is not only delicious but very reasonably priced. When good taste and great price come together that is a rare find. The place is small so may get packed during peak hours but we normally have no trouble finding a table. Mike keeps things moving and the service is great. When I first asked 'What do you recommend as being excellent?' on the menu Mike answered 'everything'. I thought he was kidding and hyping at the time but as I tried more dishes I realized he was telling the truth. EVERYTHING I have tried there is wonderful. Came here again and was surprised to find that they had fixed their broth! It was significantly beefier and not covered up with pepper, giving it a much simpler and savory flavor. I also ordered the vermicelli bowl with egg roll and pork (bun cha goi thit nuong) and it was delicious! Pho 36 - Egg roll! - Vietnamese Near Me - Avon, Indiana

Pho 36 is our favorite place in Indy for Bahn Mi (Vietnamese subs). They have their French bread made to their recipe by a local baker (I didn't think you could get good French bread in indy but they pull it off, it's like a good Parisian French loaf). They make all their own ingredients from the mayo to the pate to the pickled veg. We've tried all of the subs and our favorites are the pork and (wait for it) tofu. Really not a big tofu fan but it takes on the flavors of the sandwich and is a perfect vehicle for the sandwich. Their are other good bahn mi sandwiches in town but none are as good. K&T makes a great sandwich but their bread is delivered frozen from Chicago and it shows. It's very crumbly and the texture is not there. Pho 54 started making bahn mi but they use a Hispanic bakery and the bread is soft (not bad, but not French). Super Pho in westfield makes an excellent sub (4 star) but again not quite as good as Pho 36 (this is our 2nd favorite banh mi shop). Pho 36 also makes a good egg/pork pie, goi con roll and chicken salad. We like many of the other dishes but we go for the Bahn Mi. Hint: this is not far from the airport. We have more than once picked up sandwiches to take on the plane. They will put the wet ingredients in a plastic bag so your bread doesn't get soggy. read more
