This place can best be described by the phrase "lipstick on a pig". The interior is nicely decorated with a relaxing ambiance and the food looks pretty on the plate (or in the bowl). Unfortunately the flavor of the food is not good. Some dishes are bland, others overly sweet and they seem to have trouble getting their vegetables cooked as they are nearly raw, which makes me nervous about how well the meat is cooked. In addition to the lack of quality in the food, the owner seems to rely on dishonest business practices. Up charges for EVERYTHING such as: using a credit card, ordering takeout, or substitutions of any kind. On top of that, they don't give you an itemized receipt like the one you sign. It appears that the owner is greedy and wants to make more money, but even he knows the food can't justify what he wants to charge for it, so he relies on hidden fees. If you have eaten at a decent Pho restaurant elsewhere, prepare to be underwhelmed by the flavors and overwhelmed by the prices. read more

As far as Pho goes, Pho #1 was the only game in town according to Yelp. I could not locate another Pho eatery in Harlingen. Our party of two ordered spring rolls, well done beef flank noodle Pho, and house special egg noodle Pho. Spring rolls and the peanut hoisin dipping sauce were very good, fresh and tasty. The house egg noodles Pho contained lots of white chicken slices, shrimps, and Chinese BBQ pork slices. The broth was savory and noodle was cooked perfectly. On the other hand, the well done flank Pho had an issue. The beef was tender and tasty, but the broth was horrible. The broth tasted like it was made from one of those store brought instant Pho packet. When the Pho broth tanked, basically the whole meal sucked. Will we eat here again? Yes, because it is the only Pho game in town. So we have to give Pho #1 one more shot. read more

Location is small but I didn't mind. I ordered Pho (#7) with eggs rolls as an appetizer. The egg rolls were delicious although I was not a fan of the dipping sauce. It was a little more tangy & less sweet than I'm used to. The Pho was very good. It was made perfect with a touch of Sriracha sauce. Staff was very fast & welcoming. Overall great experience. 4 stars only because it seemed very similar to other Thai/Asian restaurants here in the Valley. E.g Le Lai & Xin Xin. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Pho #1 - #7. Well done beef flanks Pho. - Vietnamese Near Me - Harlingen, Texas

This place was alright, but nothing special. Prices were higher than expected, but being that this is the only such restaurant in the area I guess they can pretty much charge what they want. The decor was nice, but it's all just one big room and so it was crowded and loud. The pho broth lacked the usual fragrance and intensity one would expect. However, for people unfamiliar with this dish they might like it. I was disappointed that bahn mi were not on the menu and that the bubble teas were made with powder and syrup instead of real fruit. Being that this is a new establishment, we might give them the benefit of the doubt and try it again. But then again, I haven't found myself making a return visit. read more

My newest local "discovery". Im from Brownsville, but it's worth the drive. So far, I've tried the spring rolls, chicken lettuce wraps, beef and tendon pho and chicken pho. All delicious! The place is clean and pretty, lights might be a bit too dim. Friendly staff, quick service. read more

They were able to add fried tofu to my pad thai on a later visit. Was glad for that. However, the tofu was overly fried. Still good, though.

Amazing & a great addition to the restaurants in Harlingen. Although, this place stands on its own because of its cuisine. Has an awesome chicken curry. The service is friendly & attentive. The price is just right considering the good portions. This place is a must try, it is very good, tasty & authentic. read more

The spring rolls were amazing! 10/10 would recommend and I will be coming again! The chicken pad Thai was very well made and the portions were huge! Can't wait to go back! read more

I've had my fair share of Vietnamese & Thai food. I would easily put this restaurant in the top 3! Beautiful decor inside. And equally beautiful food. I enjoyed the Pad Thai. Moist and not too spicy. Spring rolls were probably my favorite! Will definitely return when I return for work. read more

great restaurant; we go a lot & have always had great food & even better service. the atmosphere is amazing & always super welcoming.

Had dinner and ordered as appetizer spring rolls (very fresh, a lot of noodles, and in my opinion, needed other veggies as carrot and cucumber as well as aromatic herbs, Asian basil or coriander). Dipping sauce complemented the flavor. Also ordered the Garlic Chicken plate which comes with white rice. Lots of veggies, hot and good flavour (sauce was too thick and too much tomato paste for me). A good place to dine instead of an Asian fast food box. Service was attentive. Good food, good price, good alternative if you want to eat Asian food rather than Tex-Mex in Harlingen. read more

Food is Okay but they were very short staffed had to wait a long time for drinks, utensils, check, and containers to go. Don't see myself coming back only if I'm sick and need a good soup. Place was clean the waitstaff are friendly but are spread too thin with other tasks the owner needs to hire more help. read more

Really good food. We ordered out and the food was fresh and the soups were hot. The spring rolls are really good. I didn't care much for the peanut sauce that it comes with both they were really good without it. The curry is money seriously , it is so good. We got he yellow one and it was a ton of it as well. The restaurant I believe is fairly priced. I would probably would even pay a little more. read more

Pho #1 - Love me some Pho. - Vietnamese Near Me - Harlingen, Texas

Being from Hawaii, I am used to having a variety of asian cuisines I can choose from that are authentic and tasty. Having moved here, I had yet to find the place I can say I'd come back to for viet/thai food. This place is definitely at the top of my list of places to return to. The Thai fried Chicken wings were perfect! They had lots of taste and even the vegetables were tasty. The Phô was also very tasty and my husband was impressed with their house fried rice. I just hope that they add Thai Stuffed Chicken wings! The waitresses made sure that we were always satisfied and our drinks never ran out! read more

Came in town for business, and wanted something light for dinner. So I yelped what's around my hotel and Pho#1 showed up. The food is decent, since I was in Harlingen, I wasn't expecting too much. Service was great though. If it were just for the food, it would've been 2.5 star, but service bumped up the rating for me to 4 stars. read more

Ordered $70+ of takeout Sunday night. After presenting my credit card for payment, saw that there was a $20 surcharge added. When asked about this, I was pointed to a small sign that explains credit cards transactions have a 3% surcharge added. Requested to change the payment method to debit or cash but was denied. This practice is deceptive AND credit card surcharge is Illegal in the State of Texas. Eggrolls were good. Lettuce wraps were good. Curry was ok, but incorrect order (yellow instead of red), but overall a bad taste in my mouth regarding the surprise upcharge. Beware if paying with plastic. read more

Not that good. Their tempura was weird. It's different from the usual tempura that you get from asian restaurants. It looked a lot like deep fried fish with breaded stuff on it. Their noodles were fine except they were served not as hot as you would think so that made you wonder. Overall it was... I'm not coming back. read more

Good standard Vietnamese/Thai. Sadly, the Pho was a bit under-par. Basil being one of the main ingredients to flavor pho broth, is missing from the pho. Unfortunately this establishment doesn't provide the basil. With out it, the broth tastes much like hot water in noodles. But don't fret. They do serve good Pad Thai other Vietnamese dishes. Great service has to be mentioned and the management is very polite and welcoming. Despite the hiccup with the pho it overall is a good local dive with polite service which helps it retain a 3 stars review read more

I always get chicken pad thai. I've never been disappointed! Its a pricey restaurant but I always get so much food it's a meal for the next day. The spring rolls are so good and so is their peanut sauce. The owner is so friendly and attentive. My only complaint, this last time I went the server didn't know how to pronounce any of the names, he didn't even know how to pronounce the restaurants name. He definitely needs to learn more about the dishes they are offering. read more

This place was definitely on my go to list for a very long time. Many friends had recommended it and finally gave it a try. It was my first time trying this type of food and I asked the waitress questions regarding the menu. She was very helpful and didn't give that judgey look that many give when not familiar with the food. She was genuine and thorough in all the options that we asked her about. The service was quick and the serving is quite large. The price was on point and worth the food. Love the environment! Everyone must try at least once in your lifetime, as for me this won't be my last visit. read more

I only order out. I've never eaten inside. I usually have my hubby pick it up for lunch. Whoever you are, whatever made you want to open this restaurant, my stomach and eclectic tastebuds thank you. Pho #1 is like a one stop restaurant for all the East Asian cuisine: Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai. It's a little pricey, in my opinion, but it's also kind of your only option for "authentic" East Asian food in Harlingen and the valley. They have quick service, and the owner is always hovering about ready to help. As for the food, it's pretty decent! I have to say that their Vietnamese options are more authentic in taste than their Chinese and Thai. Thus, I would go for their Pho (which is why they're called Pho #1), even though the meat can be a little overcooked. Their pad Thai is also pretty good, but doesn't quite explode in taste like you'd normally expect from Thai food. Their Chinese food is a little Americanized also, but still much better than the other Chinese places around Harlingen. So overall, this is the best Asian restaurant I've tried so far in Harlingen/brownsville. It does a good job of satisfying my cravings for Asian food (even though I'll still miss the options provided in larger cities like Houston). read more

I've been here several times. I've had various pho varieties, it's okay. I get to go to Los Angeles often, for comparison, so if I based this restaurant solely on pho, it would be a three. The broth just not quite right. If I really crave pho and I'm not in So Cal, I go there. I've also had their vermicelli with beef. Very good beef, noodles a bit over done. My kids LOVE the orange chicken, and my daughter, who is vegan, enjoys the tofu and veggies. For my picky family, it is just right. Service is always good and the owner is friendly. I don't think there is a children's menu, though an appetizer could work. Average cost per plate is about $10. read more

Pho #1 stands out in the sea of fast food, Mexican, and Tex-Mex restaurants that make up the Valley's dining scene. Thank goodness for the owners taking a chance bringing Vietnamese food to Harlingen, because this place is great! Of course, I come here for the pho. My favorite is the #15 combination beef noodle soup, which has generous servings of flank, meatballs, and tendons. And my favorite appetizer is the spring rolls. The service is quick, attentive, friendly, and you never see the bottom of your beverage glass. read more

Pro tip: Bring your own basil for the pho and etc and limit your visits to twice a year. This is for the people too lazy to drive out to McAllen for Vietnamese food. It will hold you down enough at least twice a year but I hate the feeling I'm getting screwed over in price and quality. read more

Not the best Vietnamese I've had but still pretty good. I've had the pork and beef vermicelli bowls which are good but wished they had the red pepper paste you usually find at Vietnamese restaurants. For a Pho place in the valley, it is pretty solid. I've tried pho in Cali, Boston, St. Louis, San Antonio and Houston and this place really satisfies my pho craving, not the best but not the worst. I had the Pho Dac Biet and it had a good proportion of noodles to meat to broth. The broth could have used more beefiness and some fish sauce. The bo vien was really good. I also had the egg rolls which aren't worth mentioning, very typical. Overall, the atmosphere, service and food was good enough that I would come back to try more. read more
