We came here the night of the most foggy and drizzly winter day I've ever seen. It was kind of perfect. The outside has a pitched roof and is right next to a massage parlor. Anyways, after making it in through the two sets of doors we sat ourselves at the direction of the server/owner. Our server came over and we each ordered large Phos: the #37 and #47. Our server was very kind to encourage me to stick to my guts after I second guessed my initial choice. She then brought over the usual bean sprouts/basil/jalapeños and we began activating our basil by smelling it and saying a prayer. Then we slapped it. Then we looked at it. Then we ate it all. It takes alot for me to give a place such a low review. Was not a fan of the pho, might have been an off day or something for them. The pho dac biet that came out was warm, for the most part if you order it anywhere its piping hot or hot at the very least. The noodles felt like they had been cooked earlier in the day and was thrown in as ordered. The broth itself was bland and not flavorful. With covid restrictions lifting they have a ton of see thru shower curtains hanging up that could probably go down by now. Um, whoever is giving bad reviews...are you okay? This place is great!!!!! The owner is sooooooo nice, she's so kind. She makes me feels so warm and complimented me on my chopstick usage (I am always eating pho) the broth is WONDERFUL so much food. Like you need to come here. The chicken is actual chicken. Some of these other places use Tyson grilled chicken in the bag and you can tell. I grew up on it. So I know. There are more than 48 restaurants in Albuquerque that serve Vietnamese food. I love Pho. When I moved to New Mexico, I started a search for the best Pho to be had here. My Duke City Pho Quest Ends at Ph #1. Every time I go to a Vietnamese restaurant, I resolve to try something besides Pho. It rarely works. This place has the best Pho I have had since I left Maryland. Almost as good as that at Pho Real in Silver Spring/Burtonsville MD. Pho or pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup consisting of broth, linguine-shaped rice noodles called bánh Pho, a few herbs, and meat, primarily served with either beef or chicken. Pho is a popular street food in Vietnam[4] and the specialty of a number of restaurant chains around the world. Southern Vietnamese eat it for breakfast and occasionally lunch, whereas those from northern Vietnam consume it at any time of day. I usually get a small Tai/Nam (beef) Pho wherever I go. The version here at Pho #1 is wonderfully spiced and scented (the aroma is critical), is not short on beef, and has ample noodles. If you order tai, be sure to get it on a separate plate so that it will not be overcooked by the steaming hot broth. ++Lemongrass Chicken with Vegetables in a spicy brown Sauce. The Dazzler likes Ph plenty, but she really loves Lemongrass Chicken, and that's what she had. The aroma of lemongrass wafted up from the plate and she knew that she got the right stuff. The veggies (mushrooms, bamboo shoots, red bell peppers, tiny corn ears, and more)were masterfully done. The brown sauce needed a tad more piquancy (red pepper flakes or Bird Peppers?) The woman who runs the front end of the restaurant is the sweetest! So kind and attentive, excellent customer service! She is the reason I keep coming back, but the food is also so good! Can't go wrong with the #37 combination pho or vermicelli noodle dishes. I wouldn't recommend the #38 spicy combo pho (not bun bo hue, always recommend bbh because the depth of flavor in the soup is amazing). For whatever reason, I didn't love the spicy combo pho, and maybe it's because I could just make any pho spicy with sriracha and chili oil? Maybe it's because the pho is already so good that why should I order anything else? But def need to praise the bbh. As for appetizers, the spring rolls are good and standard pho-fare. The fried squid has quickly become my favorite. If you're looking for good, soul-warming pho, this place is it. The cherry on top is the awesome woman who runs the front! read more

Love this place. The only thing bringing it down is the neighborhood. Lots of homeless and crazies, but if you can deal it't totally worth the trip. I took a job in the area and went in one day. Now I'm hooked! The menu isn't very descriptive, so it may take it time or two before you have your dish dialed-in, but hands down this place has the best fresh spring/summer rolls I've ever had. Owner lady is super sweet too. One day their credit card machine went down after I placed my order. I didn't have cash. The lady just told me don't worry about it! I haven't had Vietnamese food in quite awhile because I live in a remote area several states away. So We arrived today and it starts snowing!! I look up Vietnamese restaurants near our location. This place had good reviews so I called in take out. I asked the lady over the phone for 2 orders of vegetarian spicy pho with egg noodles. Wow!! Yum!!!!!!!! Lots of tofu, fresh veggies, and savory broth. Upon request they had placed crushed red paper paste on the side so I could spice mine out. Oh, and they included all the garnishes such as bean sprouts, basil, jalapeño, and lime. It was fabulous. I want to order it again tomorrow. If I do, I'll take a picture. My only concern was that the huge styrofoam container looked almost melted from the steaming hot soup. I wish I had glass containers to bring in so they could put my soup in there instead. We also ordered beef fried rice. i don't know if she messed up our order, but it tasted like they chopped up BBQ pork & threw it in. Which made the fried rice even more flavorful. My go-to spot to satisfy pho cravings, when it's not being cooked in my home, of course. First of all, it's cheap. $7.25 for a large bowl of delicious, fresh pho? Yes please. I'd honestly take that over a combo meal at a mediocre fast-food restaurant. Albuquerque has too many "cheap" options for food that include nothing but greasy burgers, fries, burritos, tacos, and the like. Don't get me wrong, I have my craving for that kind of food too; but when I'm eating out for a week straight and wanting something cheap, too much fast food can be overwhelming. Second, the service. I believe the owner is the main server (she typically runs back and forth between the kitchen, register, and tables), and her two sons can also be seen helping out. She is truly kind, and unbiased towards her customer. I speak fluent Vietnamese, and could see that she was treating her regular Viet customers very well. (I'm mentioning this because I lived in an Asian-dominant community for 14 years, and noticed that in areas with strong language barriers, biased service levels would occur). And so I wanted to see how she would treat my friends and I. She welcomed us warmly and approached us after we sat down. She was incredibly patient with us (one of my friends had a hard time deciding what she wanted), and she said "thank you," many times, including after we had placed our orders. She was so sweet. Most importantly, the pho is yummy. The broth, noodles, and abundance of meat! That's my favorite part. You can never go wrong with hoisin sauce and meat. I always order the same thing; Pho Tai Gau, which is the beef noodle soup with rare steak and brisket. It's close to home-style cooking for me, and I'm in love! You go up to the register to pay after your meal; the check is not dropped off at your table like at other places. And you get a fortune cookie, like at Chinese restaurants. Cute! read more

My last review for Pho #1 was back in 2011, so I decided to revisit one of the top rated Pho spots in the area to see what I missed. -Price: The price of the Pho was averaging $6-$8, 3 sizes; small, large & extra. Add 1.50 for extra large. They DO accept credit cards. -Broth: The broth was different this time. It was clear and free from too much oil but it had an interesting flavor like they had used corn when they prepared it. Not a fan. -Noodles: Very clumpy took me a while to unravel. I am a big Vietnamese food fan. This is one of the few places that consistently offers the 7 Courses of Beef meal. If you are hungry and like beef, go for it. Share it with a friend. Different tastes and textures await you, even the opportunity to get interactive with your food. They aren't open on Wednesdays, which is bizarre. Everything I have had there has been of the highest quality, especially the pho broth. The broth should be piping hot and clear, without too much sediment. This is my favorite restaurant in Albuquerque. The food, service, and ambiance are all very good. The pho is amazing, but unlike other pho places, I've had several other dishes which were quite special as well. The steamed vermicelli dishes with grilled meats were bursting with flavor. They came with a side of fish sauce and carrots that you poured over and mixed in with the vermicelli, meats, veggies and herbs. The service is warm and makes you feel like you are eating at home. The decorations and calm music playing in the background help summon the cultural roots of the owners. read more
