I hate to give my own people 3 stars, but my family and I were really disappointed. If the staff weren't so friendly, it would had been even lower. We were really looking forward to a Cambodian restaurant and saw that they had one in Cleveland. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a beautiful restaurant in a busy street.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Like I mentioned before, staff was really nice. Actually, it was 1 male server that was doing everything from hosting, taking orders, serving, and everything else while juggling different customers. Surprisingly, service was very quick. It went down from there. None of the dishes were authentic. They said that they had to accommodate the clientale around there and therefore, it's more americanized. If we had wanted authentic dishes, we would have to call in advance to place that order so that they can pull things from the freezer and prepare it. Why would we do that? It was our first time there. We thought it'll be just like every other restaurant. You go in, order what's on the menu, and expect that to come out. Not ask for fried fish and they tell you that it's still in the freezer. Or, ask for Amok and they said that they only make 10 (or was it 20?) per day, but someone had called in advance the day before to order them all. Even their Somlor Machu Kreung only had celeries as their vegetables because they said thrakhoun would just spoil. At least add some jalapenos, green papaya, tomatoes, etc to it. In addition, all the food proportions were so small. It's definitely not family-style dishes. Oh yes, I do not understand why their basil chicken fried rice was red and looking like tomato paste. Perhaps it's a Cleveland thing? I'm from the South and we do not make our basil fried rice like that. Flavors were okay for some dishes and other dishes were just plain. I visited for the first time in November 2023 with my friend Lesly. We came for dinner. I ordered the number 6 on the menu (Hue Beef Soup) which was listed then at a price of $8.99. I also ordered the spring rolls which were listed for $3.98 for two spring rolls. I also ordered hot tea ($2) which comes in a small cup but there is also a small tea kettle brought to the table which holds the rest of the tea. FOOD -- This is a Cambodian and Vietnamese restaurant. There is lots to choose from on the menu. I would say that this is a simple/basic restaurant or average. The Hue Beef soup which is under $10 was the perfect dish for me because I was feeling slightly sick on that day so eating something hot helped my throat. I noticed that there was plenty of oil in the soup though which isn't the healthiest. The beef in the soup was tender which was nice. The spring rolls were good too. My friend also ordered the spring rolls and I think she also ordered the same soup as me and she enjoyed her meal. I'd love to come back to try a rice dish but knowing that I love trying different restaurants around town, I know that I won't be back here anytime soon. I got the banh hoy, which was a vermicelli rice noodle with beef and onions wrapped in a lettuce wrap dipped in a house fish sauce. The fish sauce and noodles was quite good, unfortunately the beef wasn't that good. I was quite disappointed. This is family owned business, there was unfortunately one person as the waiter so it was a slow service, however he was very kind when he got to our table. The food did take some time to come out(I think there was only one person in the kitchen), unfortunately it was not worth the wait. It was very mediocre Cambodian cuisine. The mango tea was also lacking flavor. There was a certain flavor lacking in these dishes that I would expect from Khmer cooking. Came here recently with friends and had a wonderful time! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were mostly doing take-out orders, so we had the restaurant to ourselves, which ended up being great because the toddler in our party had the zoomies.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The man running the restaurant was so incredibly kind with her being so energetic and still managed to bring out our food quickly between to-go orders. I had an ok experience at Phnom Penh. I ordered the Bayon with tofu at Dragon Spice level, the hottest spice level they offered. The flavors of the dish were fine and the dish was good, but it wasn't spicy at all. It was rather mild, instead. Our server never came to check on us after delivering our order to the table, so I didn't get a chance to ask about it. He only came by after we were finished to give us the check. This place was kind of hard to find because of the constant construction and no windows. It was super stuffy and hot inside. Every piece of furniture had a light layer of stickiness on it and the chairs were a bit rickety. I had to wait at least 8 minutes to just get acknowledged even though there was absolutely no one else in the restaurant at the time. Another customer came in at the same time to pick up food so I asked him if there was anyone working here and he said it's sometimes like this where the staff is just busy doing stuff in the back for a while... The menu was great and everything looked tasty so the selection wasn't hard. The prices in person did not match the online prices so beware, folks. The portions were rather skimpy and there was slightly too much curry spice on everything but I did enjoy my noodles and finished everything pretty quickly. My BF and I got this egg soda drink that was DA BOMB though. I might come back once construction around the area is done but with the vast Asian choices available in CLE, I might not. read more

Never been to a Cambodian restaurant before and never thought my first time would be in CLE, but I was impressed by the wide selection of unique dishes with authentic flavors offered at this little gem on W 25th! We stopped by for takeout, but they're open for eating in during COVID with a reasonably spacious indoor layout for relatively distanced dining. Since I'm not at all familiar with Cambodian dishes and didn't recognize most words on the menu, we ended up just getting two of their most popular items, the Chha Kreoung Ma Rass Prowt (a deliciously aromatic stir fry with your choice of proteins tossed with turmeric, garlic, lemongrass and lime leaves, served in a very sweet peanut sauce) and the Amok Siemreap. Both dishes were absolutely bursting with flavor but we both preferred the latter, which was an indulgent seafood amalgamation of shrimp, scallops, imitation crab (not crab) and steamed fish cooked in creamy coconut milk and wrapped in fragrant banana leaf. ** Highly recommend ordering your food at least medium spicy to take that flavor explosion to the next level. Kind of underwhelming portion sizes for the price but otherwise an overall impressive takeout experience with phnom-enal phlavors that was a very pleasant intro into the world of Cambodian cuisine :^) Already looking forward to my next visit! read more

Their pho was amazing; the broth was incredibly flavorful, though I do wish the portion was a bit bigger. Upon entering I was greeted by the owner, a friendly gentleman who was quite welcoming and happy to discuss various menu selections. There are countless options that seemed both enticing as well as adventurous, so it was a bit of a challenge deciding upon a dish. Ultimately I chose the Chha Kreoung, a tantalizing blend of turmeric root, lime leaves, lemon grass, galanga root, onion, red peppers, and rice - amazing! I was here with my aunt approx. 5 years ago and have always wanted to return. It was that good. My husband and I came in for a late lunch after walking through the Westside Market. There were only 2 other tables and the lone man working was very nice. They were out of Thai iced tea, but he offered iced coffee, which was just as good so my disappointment was very low. Several people came in during our meal and he was quite busy, but we still got efficient service. My husband had Pad Thai and I had Neak Poan with shrimp. It was so good! This is such a cute place in the midst of the more flashy restaurants around Ohio City. The prices are very low for a large quantity of food. The menu is expansive and the staff appears to be very knowledgeable and accomadating about your experience. It's not the fanciest or classiest restaurant, but it gets the job done and provides very unique menu items! There is a lot of crossover seemingly between thai and vietnamese, so you have a lot of options and are bound to find something. Phnom Penh has been around in the greater Cleveland area for at least 20 years. This restaurant features Cambodian cuisine, something uniquely different from other Asian food offerings you will find in Northeast Ohio. They can whip up make you some delicious pho (noodle soup), bun (noodle salad, crepes or special fried rice. They also make some really great stir fries, soups and stews unique to Cambodia. Though not strictly a Cambodian dish, their version of pad thai is very delicious. It is colored brightly purple because it is made with pickled red cabbage. It's very flavorful and tasty and I definitely recommend it for people to try. The service can be a little bit slow at times but the food is definitely worth the wait. The restaurant is also a little on the dimly lit side, but it is clean and has ample seating for an intimate dinner for two or larger dinner parties. If you're in Ohio city, one of the neighborhoods of Cleveland near downtown, you should definitely check out this restaurant. read more

I love looking at the beautiful giant carved wooden panels on the walls. The owners are so friendly and offer great food suggestions. Since I'm not really familiar with Cambodian food, I always ask for their recommendations and they have never steered me wrong. I typically get the Chha Kreoung Ma Rass Prowt with tofu and vegetables. It has a rich peanut sauce and fresh vegetables that I devour in its entirety every time. For dessert I love the Bai Domnerb Song Kyar. Its a very unique dessert with sticky rice and coconut that is just the right touch of sweet. Bonus - this place is BYO! read more

I have to say this place is a sort of hidden gem. Unbelievable menu we had shrimp rolls which were delicious. Instead of thick peanut sauce usually served at most restaurants the sauce was a light fish sauce mixed with peanuts. I had pad Thai again a lighter sauce than most places I've eaten. No alcohol choices at all, so if that's what you're looking for then you may want to BYOB. The decor is exposed brick along with black and red paint and beautiful wood carved panels. A very eclectic style but very cozy, too. We started with the spring rolls which arrived hot and very quickly. For my entree I ordered the Mee Khmer (rice noodles sautéed in a spicy sauce with veggies and choice of meat) which was delicious (thanks, fellow Yelpers, for the suggestion!). The ingredients were very fresh and had a unique, spicy, tangy flavor. I ate the entire serving. I appreciate that you can customize your spice level. I got medium, and my lips are still burning as I type this out My hubby, always a creature of habit, got the beef pad Thai. So i got to pick for date night. It was a poor choice. We both started with the pork rice soup, that broth was excellent. The presentation of all the food was attractive, but that is it for me and my bf. I got the kuy teav chha kreoung tek trey phem and it was dry. I got the combination meat, shrimp beef and chicken. I needed sauce and fresher food, I did not each much although it looked beautiful when it came out. My bf got the preah vihear i believe, and the beef had a gravy that tasted like a packet mixed with water from giant eagle, and his meat was tough as well. My bf was concerned when we walked in and we were one of two tables there at 730pm on a thursday. It looks like fellow yelpers has reviewed this place well, but I just cannot see how, the experience was lacking for us. read more

When we walked in, there was only one guy working. I don't mean one waiter, I mean, there was the waiter, who was also the busboy, who was also the chef. I love restaurants like that actually. It feels homey. I've never had Cambodian food and so we asked the owner to give us some recommendations. He suggested we try the pan fried noodles. We got the pan fried beef noodles, Cambodian spicy. I almost died. The spice is not the kind of spice that just tickles your mouth. This is the kind of spice that rocks your world and then stays. It's the fact that it stays that really overwhelms your mouth. So I had to get one of their fresh smoothies to help cool down my mouth. I got the guanabana, which I had never had before. I always like to order things that are different and new, but when I don't like them, I tend to hand it over to my boyfriend. I wasn't a huge fan of the guanabana. It is very light, barely sweet, but has this strange after taste. I described it as fishy, but my boyfriend says he couldn't taste it. I guess it's a matter of taste. Overall, the experience was okay. I liked the food, but the smoothies weren't really my thing. Also, I think because I didn't drink it and my boyfriend did, he ended up getting sick. I don't think it was anything wrong with the food, but the guanabana is some crazy beast. Drink at your own risk. But despite that, I'd still definitely come back. The food was good.
