It was a tad too sweet for me since the honey glaze was all over the plate. I wished it was on the side, where I could just dip it. Pork Belly Soft Tacos (9) - grilled onion, cabbage, tomatillo puree Pretty good, but a little on the dry side. Also, I could taste the pork belly drenched in oil. Satchel's Baked Mac and Cheese (9) - jamon, spanish sausage, capers, artichoke hearts I didn't care for the sausage or jamon, to be honest. It was a little salty with all the ingredients included. This dish was also a little oily. Grilled Lamb Chops (22) - fig-port wine reduction sauce Not bad. The fig-port sauce was pretty tasty. Went here with my sister and our parents for dinner. It was quite packed, so I'm glad we were lucky to get a table outside (preferable in these times). The staff were friendly and helpful, and they had some good recommendations. But next time, I'll go with the calamari instead of the oysters. The meals we had were amazing! I enjoy tapas places when I'm out with the girls... that way we get to try more things. Phight is cool little place in Whittier. I couldn't help but get a real Portland feel from the place. It felt just like many of the places I love in Portland. This is a wine bar and they had a nice selection of wines for the evening. The waiter was helpful and patient. No matter what the girls wanted, he was quick to please. After we tasted the diablo sauce, we pretty much put that sh*t on everything. Even if it doesn't come with whatever you ordered... ask for some. You won't regret it. We ordered lengua tacos and pork tacos. The lengua was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth. We had the mac'n cheese, which had a really salty taste. We weren't sure if they added too much salt or if the capers were just not the right ingredient to add to this dish. Crostini was pretty good, Bacon wrapped dates were ok. We were really disappointed in the empanadas (dry and bland) and the lamb chops (not tender at all). It was a nice evening. They do have specialty items that often change with the day, so it's worth coming back to try new things and repeat some of our favorites. read more

We recently come out to downtown Whittier once in a while cause we go to a nail salon nearby, It's great that there are many nice restaurants and bars around. A tapas and wine bar style restaurant. Very cozy and relaxing place, decor is cute and inviting. Menu is fairly big for tapas, but most items are meat and poultry. Started off with a small bottle of San Pellegrino, glass of red Sangria and glass of Chardonnay, they were refreshing and tasty. Tapas we sampled: Sauteed kale: kale was soft and easy to chew on, the melted cheese was a bit too overwhelming. Crab cakes with shredded cabbage and capers: flavorful crab cakes with generous amount of crab meat in there, very delicious. Spicy potatoes with dipping sauce: very spicy with rich flavors, didn't like the creamy sauce too much. Double fried chicken: hubby decided to go for healthier white meat! He loved the chicken, golden crispy skin outside with tender flavorful meat inside, so good! Duck confit: again it was so yummy with amazing flavors, meat was so tender and juicy. Everything was so rich and flavorful, we asked for some homemade hot sauce, it was bomb, we had to ask some to go! Portions were huge for tapas, prices were great. I rarely come down to this part of town.. It's only to visit my friend who lives in Whittier not too far away. You wouldn't expect a restaurant like this in this part of town. Came here on a Sunday evening full of people for dinner and we sat at the bar which overlooks the kitchen. It's a pretty cool sight watching your food cooked in front of you. I had the chicken mole which is probably the best mole I've had in a long time. Served with white meat smothered with a spicy but a bit sweet mole sauce and a side of rice. Great flavor. My friend had the lamb and skirt steak which look very tasty. Our waiter was very attentive. Food was very good and for decent prices. Some of the things we ordered: Diablo tiger shrimp: really good. The red sauce topping the shrimp gives a little kick. Ahi tuna tostada: good Lamb slider: dry Lobster garlic mashed potato: okay It was kind of pricey, but I guess that's tapas. The only drawback to coming here would be the wait. The restaurant is small and the turnover for tables is extremely slow. To make things worse they don't take reservations for groups less than 6. Parking was easy as there is a parking structure located directly across the street from the restaurant. We arrived early enough that we found parking right out front on the street. FANTASTIC "Date Night" at Phlight! We met up with two friends of ours who live in Whittier and spoke highly of Phlight. Our friends know that we are foodies and we're looking forward to introducing us to this restaurant and it's fun menu. Phlight is located off of Philadelphia and Bright... Hence the name Phlight. The menu was quite extensive and presented offerings to cater to anyone's taste! We ordered the crunchy fried tacos with pickles, short ribs, bacon wrapped dates, empanadas, spicy shrimp, and paella. All were absolutely delicious. Additionally, the gentleman ordered beer the ladies ordered the sangria and their Pom-Pom beverage which was absolutely scrumptious. For dessert we ordered the Caramell custard and the fried chocolate bananas... Yum! Parking was easy as there is a parking structure located directly across the street from the restaurant. We arrived early enough that we found parking right out front on the street. The restaurant decor is absolutely precious! Cool bank at along one wall that is paired up with small tables and chairs that can be separated for groups of 24 or put together for groups of many! Genius decor! So, the restaurant decor was fantastic... The food was absolutely delectable... The drinks were fantastic... And of course, the service was in comparable. So, why didn't they receive a score of five? Well, the temperature I'm afraid was a little uncomfortable. At one point the temperature reached 81°. First off, the place is really nice, simple but nice. The setting is very calming and intimate. Good for small groups or somewhere to go on a date. This time I went with coworkers for a goodbye dinner for one of my coworkers. To start off, i got a Phlight of different wines: one sparklingly, one white, and the other two were reds (not a wine person so don't remember the names). They were all good. This location serves tapas, which are smaller portions that you share amongst each other. We got multiple plates of the Corn Esquite, the Mac&Cheese, Chile Relleno, Bacon-wrapped Dates, and the Stuffed Mushrooms. All plates were very good and came out in a timely manner. The whole tapas experience was new to me but nice. To finish off we got both desserts, the Mexican chocolate soufflé and the French toast. The soufflé was moist and tasted great and the French toast was perfect with the homemade whipped cream. The service was amazing! Our server was on top of all the refills and was kind and courteous. I can't emphasize this enough, it is a MUST order. The House Fries came in second, tied with the Mac and Cheese. Both were so comforting, while the fries were seasoned nicely and came with two sauces, the aioli was by far my fave. The Mac was packed with different cheeses and the pasta was perfectly al dente. My only critique was the jamón pairing, the texture and flavor resembled chopped up Slim Jims. Lastly, the Burger was tasty and cooked medium rare but I feel like it was lacking a little flavor for such a highly recommended dish. I was really impressed by this tapas place. Had a homey feel to it on a rainy night. Anybody who knows me knows that I like to sample small plates. I can easily make a meal of it. This was the primary reason I wanted to try Phlight. They did not disappoint. Their beer selection was good (got a Titan IPA) and they also had a really refreshing bubbly (pom pom, which was champagne with pomegranate juice). They also have a very good wine list, which would pair well with the tapas. Started with an arugula salad. It was fresh and hit the spot. Got the boquerones, which are like a bruschetta with Spanish white anchovies. I love anchovies and had to convince my date to try. Good anchovies are not the salty, bony, and disgusting tidbits that you remember. They did this on crusty rounds along with an aoli and a chimichuri sauce. Unfortunately, I cannot do parsley and they didn't say that they did with a chimichuri. They were very accommodating and made me another without, and then also made a chimichurri without the parsley. Great service here. We also had the lobster mashed potatoes. I have never had it like this and it was.... phenomenal. Highly recommend. The last of our tapas was a Serrano ham wrapped asparagus. What can I say, but.. yum. Finished off with a chocolate souffle with a caramel (I think?) ice cream. The flavor was delicate and not overpowering. Very good end to the meal. I'll be back.
