Phil's is on my way home and I stop here WAY too often for pizza. I can't quite put my finger on it but this place is just so good! I usually get a jumbo (17") sausage pizza for $28 and it comes with a 2 liter! I usually like cheese or pepperoni but the pepperoni is kinda light and doesn't add much. The sausage has a ton of flavor and is always cooked really well. The wait is usually ~35 minutes and they're usually spot on with the timing. I did recently come on a Friday and it was PACKED with a solid 20 people waiting for pizzas and most of the tables crowded so it took a bit longer for the pizza. But this was an isolated incident and it's Friday night, so I expected it to be super crowded. I'm sure I'll keep coming back here!! read more

Love Phil's! This is a tavern style pizza and it's amazing with so many ingredients. I will warn everyone this is not a fancy pizza joint, I have never eaten there but there is some seating. It's a hole in the wall pizza joint but I love their thin crust pizza. Prices are reasonable, but too bad they don't serve salads, just deep fried products. They sell liters of pop or cans but no refills and no fountain. I've never tried their other offerings so can't speak for that. The service is fast and staff is pretty nice. read more

Saw the review on Dave Portnoy "One Bite" and was very motivated to check out. I loved the sauce and the Italian Sausage. Our problem was the crust was cooked all the way. It was doughy in the middle. Bummed out. When I went in to pick up, place was slammed, it was Sunday afternoon after Bears game. Phil's Pizza caters to the meat and salt lovers. My sausage and mushroom pizza had quarter sized balls of meat in every bite. Sausage was flavorful, but oversalted and overall pizza wasn't balanced since the meat overpowered cheese, sauce and the thin crust. I grew up in Bridgeport, and Ricobene's pizza is superior. It seems like Phil's ingredients are decent and generous - just thought it was way more like eating sausage, and the mushrooms didn't add anything. grew up on the Southside, moved Northwest into pizzeria wasteland 40+ yrs back cuz of my job. no Palermo's, Chesdan's, Vito & Nick's and a host of other great pizza joints one better than the next. all had a liberal amount of cheese and sausage, great homemade crusts and a sweet sauce. northside pizza pretty much all tastes the same - marginal amount of ingredients and a crust that tastes like cardboard. my kid lives down at 27th & Wells and brought me a Phil's pizza. the first bite instantly transported me back to the pizza of my youth. flavorful, slightly chewy crust, heaps of sausage and cheese and a sweet sauce. As chicagoans we all know that we're known for deep dish, but we also know that we don't eat that when we think pizza. I'm always reluctant to order from here because of their customer service. Their menu isn't visible online & returns an error message so I have to ask what exactly they offer over the phone - which is never a pleasant experience as whoever handles phone orders is always pretty rude. They don't ask how you'll pay, which left me assuming that delivery orders accept card, only to find out they don't. Had to scramble to find cash, which was just overall inconvenient. So, call at your own risk. Their pizza and fries are delicious tho, hence why we RELUCTANTLY are returning customers. However, Phil's, I beg of you to PLEASE improve your customer service, update your website, and consider getting Square payment software so delivery customers can pay with card. read more

Well in all honesty.i had phills pizza and it was so bad it sent my child to the hospital..they said she got food poisoning from phills pizza, come to find out they don't wash there hands or wear hair nets.or gloves..I spent a few days in the hospital with my child..I went back told the Owner and what they do they all laughed..so after that my son and little girl goes in there to pick up a pizza for him and the short wanna.be Mexican girl basically there his pizza at home and said get lost bitch...how rude....please please.do t order from them...I got BBB involved and people are watching them very closely.. hopefully they get closed down soon..I'm sorry but I'm only telling the truth..I am...no one should have to rush there kid to a hospital after they eat and come to find out they have food poisoning...that's so sad.... read more

My family and I have been fans of Phil's for years. We recently ordered a large pizza and was told it would be ready in 35 minutes. I was running a bit late to pick it up, and arrived 45 mins later only to be informed they were not able to locate the order. You'd think it was ready since I was already running late. After waiting inside the restaurant for 20+ more minutes, they realized they had my pizza and they listed it under the wrong name. When I get to my car, I realized they still gave me a completely different pizza, so I quickly go back in. Turns out they also gave my pizza to another customer whom had already left. They called the customer to return the pizza and for us to switch our orders. At this point, and given the state of the pandemic, I was not comfortable taking a pizza to my family that someone else had for left with for quite some time. They first gave me a free two liter soda for waiting. Since I asked for a fresh pizza being that I was not comfortable taking the returned pie, they requested I give them back the soda they gave me (ha!). The fresh pizza would be another 35 minute wait. I spent over an hour waiting for my dinner inside the restaurant. I understand a restaurant may be busy but the entire customer service experience from start to finish was awful. Giving two stars because it was my favorite pizza spot in Bridgeport. read more

Great Pizza. Slippery Prices. Phil's is one of the best pizzas in the city it's like Italian Fiesta but with a real crust it compares to Chuck's over in Beverly or Nick and Vito's over in Burbank. Period Point Blank great pie! Trying to figure out how much the pizza will cost you especially when you're buying several of them that's a little bit more tricky. I have paid different prices for varying amounts of pizza on several different occasions. I QUIT. Phil's has a menu posted on the wall, it has flyers with prices flitted all around the restaurant but if you order three or four pizzas and you try to figure out how much you paid the response is TAX. (ie sales tax). If you take out your pencil and paper and try to calculate 9% which is approximately where sales tax is in the city of Chicago and then present this information you are told prices went up? All the menu and flyers that are flitted around the restaurant... "we haven't had chance change them yet" As I said I'M DONE. read more

Phil's is in my top 3 south side pizza places. I've ordered from their Oak Lawn location in the past, so I already knew they're the truth. If I had to choose one adjective to describe their pizza, it would be "hearty", because they don't skimp on ingredients. I can't tell you how many hoe-ass pizza places like to charge you $20 for a medium pizza, and hardly put any meat on that sh*t. You don't have to worry about that at Phil's. This location has plenty of tables to dine in, but there's not much going on when it comes to the atmosphere. There's some vintage pictures of sports stadiums and the skyline to pander to meatball Chicagoans. That's about all. Don't expect brisk ambiance. They make a solid pizza. Generous portion and size of the sausage topping, don't think I've ever had a sausage pizza with so much sausage on it. Such high quality, flavorful and juicy sausage at that. I disagree strongly with others calling this the best pizza in Chicago. Very likely the best in Bridgeport (caveat sample size 1) but not even the best on the southside. I will take Vito and nicks over this every time. I can imagine going back before or after a sox game but not making a special visit just for this. read more

Call me an anomaly in Chicago but I am a thin crust pizza girl! And Phil's has some of the best I've tasted since I've been on my quest for all the places in the city with that crispy thin crust that I love so much. Don't go for the ambiance- there isn't any. Just a large room with wooden tables and chairs and a thin haze of smoke permeating the room from the pizza ovens. Don't go for the alcohol- there isn't any. But you can get your choice of Pepsi products from one drink tower located in the corner. Don't go for a quiet dinner- it's not. Between the noise in the kitchen and the packed dining room with families waiting for their pie- this place is loud! Eat-in (self serve), take out or delivery they have it all. Parking is no problem on this part of 35th- you can park right out in front. Just go for lots of toppings (sausage, onions and pepperoni on mine) and cheese, served on a thin, crispy crust. I am a fan of pizza. You might say we're involved. So I do NOT like giving a pizza place 2 stars. In fact, it should likely be less, but I just cannot bring myself to give one star to pizza. We arrived, and had to park on the street. The building looks pretty dilapidated, but that has never stopped me before. We went in and ordered a large 'za with half olives and half pepperoni. First things first... They only accept cash but did not tell us until our order was placed, and there were no signs to indicate this. I can handle that, no big deal. It took about 20 minutes for our pizza to be made, so we sat in the restaurant area at one of the tables. The entire establishment was extremely dirty. From the floors which were housing 2 buckets to catch water coming through the roof, to the tables which were absolutely filthy, to the restrooms that literally almost made me vomit.... this place was just dreadful. I am sort of a germiphobe, so it took every ounce of strength I had in me to stay. When our pizza came out, I was so excited! It looked absolutely delicious! But looks can be deceiving, and it was awful. The crust tasted like stale bread, the cheese tasted cheap and rubbery, and the pizza was literally dripping with grease. Even with all of the grease, this pizza had little taste at all to it. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants good pizza, or wants to eat in a somewhat clean environment. read more

When I'm drunk, Phil's is my new go-to. When I'm sober, Phil's is still my go-to. I've never been much of a pizza person and admittedly, I like stuffed pizza, but for thin crust pizza that isn't paper thin, Phil's is exactly what I want. Greasy, not overly cheesy, ample toppings and it's good. Phil's is so good I'll actually eat the center pieces cold the next day. That never happens elsewhere.
