You walk in and it definitely feels like a few-frills, local spot. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table when it's ready. The menu had several sandwich options as well as salads and some sides/appetizers. I chose the grilled chicken cheesesteak salad. It came with plenty of lettuce, veggies, pickled sweet peppers (hot peppers, if you want), and a grilled chicken breast with melted cheese on top. The ranch dressing was good. This was my first visit to Philly's Finest. I liked the casual atmosphere walking in and it felt like your local "sub spot." I liked that they had their menu taped on the window so you could look at it before even going in. The menu was also at the counter and written on the chalk board so there were lots of way to see it. There was also a decent number of options. I went with #3 combo which was the Italian Grinder, Small drink, and fries (or a choice of coleslaw or chips). It does also come with a small crunchy chocolate chip cookie. I was underwhelmed mostly as the fries and were just okay. The value of the meal is worth it, I just felt that the sub overall was just fine... nothing special. You order at the counter and they will call your name once ready, so the service is pretty minimal. I would go back and try something else. read more

Solid, but inauthentic Philly Cheesesteaks. I can here for lunch on a whim with no expectations. I ordered the original Philly Cheesesteak with a side of fried zucchini. The cheesesteak was on the smaller side and oddly had pickles and tomatoes, which I would order without next time. Bread roll was solid, but I wish the meat portion was larger for price. The star of the show was fried zucchini! They were fried and seasoned extremely well and the zucchini stayed crunchy and wasn't soggy. I would come again if I'm craving cheesesteaks! read more

I LOVE love this place, it holds a special place in my heart. Whenever I'm having a rough day, I get French fries here, and if I can't, I think about them. They're so crispy, and soft on the inside. I thought the ambience was really nice there, but I went for the food. I ordered a regular Philly cheesesteak. It was topped with pickles, salad peppers, a couple of red peppers, chopped steak, and pasty white American cheese. The bread was the best thing about the sandwich. In the past this is not a place that would be one of the first ones I think of when dining out. During COVID, I gravitated towards pickup/delivery oriented businesses. Enter Philly's Finest. They have a pretty large, varied menu that's dotted with hits and misses for me. Hits: Pulled pork sandwich - it's a Monday special but available every day. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meat stuffed into a pillowy Amoroso roll. The sauce was not overdone and the slice of provolone melted over the top was a good addition. You can add jalapeños for a little kick if you like. The onion rings alongside were, considering they were delivered, still crisp and good. There is a small delivery fee, but hot food is hot when it arrives, so the convenience of it having delivered is totally worth it to me. Misses: Sourdough tuna melt - not sure if they used sweet relish, but something was very sweet. I don't enjoy sweet stuff in my tuna. I know next time not to order this. Decent: Cheesesteak - they don't stuff it with meat, but the ingredients are quality and the bread, as mentioned in my previous review is really good. You can splurge a little and get more meat, if that's your thing. I've heard mention that the salads are good and aren't just stuff plopped on a bed of greens but contain other vegetables. Clearly I have been focused on the carnivore side of the menu because usually salads are the food my food eats. I guess I need to expand my mind instead of my waistline. read more

I visited this location on Speedway & Tanque Verde this afternoon (4/4/22) around 12:00 pm for lunch. Had the basic cheesesteak, cole slaw, and a brownie, with root beer. I was starving, but after a few bites I noticed the meat tasted strange -- I smelled it and it smelled very funky. Tried to take another bite, spit it out because it tasted off -- and threw it away. Tried the cole slaw, and that was awful, too (not spoiled, just poorly made). Kept the brownie, which seemed fine, then when I got home I got very sick. I have never asked for this before, but I would like a refund. I have no issues with the staff, they were polite, but I am completely amazed that this place serves rancid meat. read more

A friend referred my family here saying it's the best cheesesteak in the city, I'm glad he found what he loves, but our experience wasn't the same. 3 people, ordered 3 different meals and 3/3 agree it wasn't great. I ordered the green chili burger, medium rare. The patties were cooked well done and resembled a Burger King burger. For triple the price of a BK burger, I expected triple the quality. The green chili was sparse but the rest of the toppings where plentifully overflowing. I really could've just bought a whopper from BK and thrown a little bit of green chili on it and it would be indistinguishable. The cheesesteak was a 5/10 maybe. The meat quality was lacking greatly, which was disappointing. The turkey sandwich on a croissant was the best thing of the 3, but still wasn't something we'd go back for. If you like this place that's awesome, but if you're foodies like my family, you may end up disappointed and out 50 bucks. If it were cheaper to match the quality, maybe we'd try more from their menu. read more

This place has been around for many years. I first came here over a decade ago, and apart from the decor, not much has changed. I used to come here right after making a visit to one of the bookstores, which is located in the same plaza. I am not a big fan of cheesesteak, but I do love the ones that are served here. I also recommend their hot dogs as well. Judging by the crowd here on a busy Wednesday night, I can see that it is still a popular spot with the locals. The customer service here is spotty. It really depends on who is working there. The men were pretty awesome, but there are a few women who are not so nice. One of them shamed me for getting a refill of water during my last trip. Since I can't leave the office for lunch, I decided to get delivery and came across this restaurant when looking through menus at the office. The lady who took my order over the phone was very pleasant and polite. The gentleman who delivered the order was also very friendly and nice. I ordered the turkey bacon avocado sandwich. It was delicious! The bread was good, all the ingredients were very fresh and the portion size was large. My son really enjoyed his Italian hoagie and said the oil used was very flavorful. We also shared mozzarella sticks and marinara and a brownie. To my delight, we also received two chocolate chip cookies. Came to Arizona in 1985 as a kid and there were a few restaurants that stood out the test of time and Philly's Finest this is one of them. This is still the same delicious Philly cheesesteaks as I remember as a kid in the 90s. Great service. First impression walking in was that this is a pleasant, roomy restaurant. Large booths, spacious floor space, and the order counter was not in the way of anything. Good utilization of space. And there definitely was a good lunch crowd, so they have their fans. I had the #`1 Combo which is their beef Philly and choice of side with a small drink. Around nine bucks. I chose the slaw. Really good sandwich. So far, the most enjoyable Philly that I've had in Tucson. The other Philly's that I've had seemed to be overwhelming in some aspect that I can't put my finger on. This one had the right ratio of bun, meat, and dressings to give me that "yummy" experience. My mom and I were shopping in the center and needed to stop for lunch. We were originally going to go to Beyond Bread (though neither of us are fans) when we passed by Philly's Finest. Neither of us had been in there before! From the outside and the location, it seems like it would be dingy and run-down, but we knew it would be quicker than BB so we headed inside. We were pleasantly surprised by the awesome modern decor and atmosphere. Very cool! We both ordered cobb salads and sat down at our choice of tables. The place was empty except for one other table. Our food arrived promptly. The salads were delicious!! The ingredients tasted fresh. The salad was served with a slice of bread and a fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie. We were so impressed by the food, decor, and atmosphere that we were left to wonder why it was so empty since it was lunchtime on a Sunday. Maybe not a lot of people know about this little gem, or maybe (like us) they had written it off before as another greasy spoon. We ate our words (and our cookies!) and we will be back again!
