Philly isn't this good, actually. I've tried the cheesesteaks at both of Philadelphia's most famous establishments, and I have to say, this is better. It's the beef. I think California gets access to better cuts of beef, because the beef here is better than what I got in Philly. And of course the rolls are divine, and you can get authentic cheeses and snack cakes. It's only ~$1 more than Subway, but miles better. The rolls and toppings are flown in, and you can taste the difference. I only gave it 4 stars because they could have better fountain drink selections. read more

I love the food, but the service was so off I will not be going back! When I arrived at the counter I told the guy who was taking orders I wanted 2 ham and cheese sandwiches. I think he didn't speak English well because he tried to repeat ham and cheese back to me, but couldn't... So I repeated myself and he tried saying ham and cheese, but then gave me a look like I had ordered something completely off the menu. At that point the other man came over to take my order. I also asked to have their spread put on it. When I picked up my order it was just one sandwich. So I asked just one? And he replied yes. Then I said I ordered two. He then apologizes and turns towards the register to charge me for another and I cut him off and tell him I don't want the second one. I mean wth I am on my lunch I don't have all the time in the world... He tries to convince me but I refused. When I got back to the office and open my sandwich I find it is missing the spread. At this point I am livid and I call to ask if they charge extra for the spread, but I explain to him I picked up my food and am asking about the spread and he thinks I want to order food so I have repeat again what I am asking. It's like pulling teeth trying to communicate with these people. read more

First I never realized that Philly's Best was a chain after first discovering it. Second, it took me a long while to figure out there was one hiding in the back of the shopping plaza off of Kraemer. Anyway, I would like to give them a solid 3.5 stars. Having had a real philly cheesesteak (as in, when I was in Philly), this definitely can't compare. However, if I didn't have that comparison then I'd have to say this little chain cranks out a good philly cheesesteak. They cook to order so you know you're going to get it fresh off the grill. They're packed with meat and peppers and other goodies (cheese, mushrooms, depending on what you order) so they fill you up nice and good. Not a bad lunch option. read more

So, I'm not from Philly, nor have I ever really had the miracle that the real deal cheese steaks must be. But when I lived up north there were a couple of places that just got me hooked on them. Philly's best, while not as good as those other places still makes the best cheese steak that I've found in southern california. They've got a few different options, and even some chicken steaks, if that's more your thing. Usually they have at least one specialty sandwich going on, like a bbq chicken and cheese, or a spicy chicken and cheese, both of which are pretty good, but nothing is quite like the original cheese steak. Worth checking out, when you're getting that cheese steak craving. I always try to call ahead, and it's ready by the time I get there. read more

I love the sandwiches here, enough I'm willing to overlook the shoddy service. I can tell the main guy here is all about money. I got a $5 coupon that they Placentia center gave as an incentive to shop their farmers market. Phillys best was one of the stores you could redeem at. When I tried to redeem it they refused to accept it even though the expiration date wasn't up yet. He just said the owner decided not to take them anymore. There was no warning saying they could stop taking them so that was pretty shady but I didn't mind since it was only $5. But I did mind enough to include it in my review. Another time, I phone ordered a sandwich and i came a bit late. Maybe 20-30min instead of 10-15 minutes. When I got there that guy and the chef laughed at me and they said something in another language. I didn't understand but it was the snickering type of laugh. The kind where you know they said something bad about you. Like I said, I go there for the food not the service so I'll go back. But I'll write it like it is on the reviews UPDATE: I don't know if they read this review or things just changed, but they have been extremely nice. The cheesesteaks are fantastic--love this place! Most recently, I ordered through Door Dash, but for some reason Door Dash didn't end up sending a driver for 2 hours after my original delivery time. In the interim I drove over and picked up myself. The manager was very apologetic (even though it wasn't his fault-- Door Dash messed up). Pretty tasty, both the beef and chicken philly's are delicious. I usually go with provolone cheese, and the wiz cheese is good as well. Wash it all down with Birch Beer that you cannot get anywhere else here in OC (not that I've found anyways). The onion rings are battered (not breaded) type, which I think is much better than the typical breaded type you find almost everywhere else. They are a bit more expensive than other sandwich shops, but well worth it when compared to the typical competitors. read more

I like the food here and I visit this chain at many of their other locations. I am giving this place a single star because they overcharged me for my order. I brought in a coupon for free fries with the purchase of a sandwich and drink. The guy at the counter stares at my coupon and takes forever to verify that the coupon isn't expired by checking the coupon expiration date with his calender. Then he asks me to hold on while he walks to the back of the store to talk to his manager. He comes back out, and overcharges my sandwich by 0.70 and my drink by 0.50. I tell him that he's charging more than the menu price, and he says I need to take it up with the manger. I decided to just let it go. I didn't want to get in a bad mood and ruin my lunch. Instead I decided to post this review. If you're going to distribute coupons to encourage business, why would you overcharge them and make them feel cheated? Doesn't that negate the whole purpose of increasing your customer base??? I won't be back here at this location again. read more

I tried really hard to like this place. The staff seemed decent, and it wasn't like it was dirty or anything. There is a class of people who actually like fat person food. If you are one of those people you may find that you love this place. There are few things that bug me more than a place lacking in unsweetened drinks. I don't like going back every two minutes to refill a silly little water cup, but I avoid soda, diet soda, juice, and other sugar filled water. Nine restaurants out of ten have solved the problem of keeping picky people like me happy with unsweetened ice tea and/or coffee. I avoid the silly little cup without having to feel like I spent two dollars on a cup of tap water. Here, I bought the drink only to find that I had the option of a soda, some artificial fruit juice or sweetened ice tea. Sweetened ice tea is all the calories of soda, without the fun bubbles and I couldn't bring myself to take the tap water, so I grumbled a bit and got the soda. Then after a couple minutes I got my food. It actually wasn't awful, just nothing special. If I am going to eat white bread and drink soda for a night it will take more than that sandwich to make me forget what I am doing. read more

I used to come here from time to time. It was fine. On my last visit, I ordered a hamburger. I was asked if I'd like cheese. I said sure. I later looked my receipt. Instead of being charged for a Cheeseburger, which I think is about 50 cents more than a Hamburger, I was charged for a Hamburger and $1.75 extra for a slice of cheese. I know I know, what's a buck? This is the closest thing to a real Philly cheesesteak you can get in CA. That being said, it's still not the same as the real deal. This particular location has a manager/owner that seems to sneakily up sell items. You ask for a drink and he hands you the largest size without asking. You ask for large fries and he says they only have one size and claims its very small so I ended up ordering 2, only to find out it's pretty good sized.
