Pretty average philly cheesesteak. If you're looking for something like that than it will hit the spot; you just have to taper your expectations. The overall flavor of the sandwich was good. Steak was tender and onions were well caramelized. I did expect bell peppers on all philly cheesesteaks? but this one did not have them. There are not many options for Philly Style Cheesesteaks in this area. I finally made it to this food cart after reading the reviews. Most takes are right. I tried the Mushroom Cheesesteak without onions and White American cheese. The Amoroso roll and ribeye meat are the stars of the show. Next time I would go for the provolone cheese since I found the American cheese somewhat liquidy. Somewhat surprising the only option for sides is a bag of chips. Face it - we are not in the Philadelphia area and it would be unreasonable to expect a steak sandwich on par with one of the better places in that part of the world. This place puts out a decent sandwich, a bit light on the amount of meat that they put on a sandwich, the roll was OK but not great either. I come from the Philadelphia area and haven't had a really good steak sandwich anywhere south of Delaware or west of Harrisburg. YMMV. I'm probably being a bit harsh for a 3 star review. I just wish that someone would be able to get it right. If you're not from the tri-state area put on an Eagles jersey, grab a soft pretzel somewhere and and a can of Rolling Rock and just pretend - you could do worse. They have always had a decent cheesesteak. I've eaten more than a dozen since they've been at On-Tap. The last couple times, however, the sandwiches have been insultingly small. I've only ordered here once -- and did via DoorDash pick-up option. I didn't actually know it was a food truck when I did the order, so I was kind of surprised when I pulled up and found the very nice food truck court -- with a few too many people and a few too masks, given Covid, but neverthless a great food truck court. The cheesesteak itself was really good. The bad news was I'd set a pick-up time in DoorDash and they had it ready about 15 minutes before that time and I was about 10 minutes late. So it was quite cold. I hope in the future they don't view all DoorDash orders as "now" because sometimes it's nice to pre-order and get what you want, fresh and hot, at the right time. (This problem is not unique to these guys, btw, and the alternative is don't attempt to pre-order.) Either way a quality cheesesteak, not too big and not too small. I'll be back again. read more

Stopped in tonight after finding out New York City Subs closed at 6pm. The location was really neat considering it was a bunch of food trucks all surrounded near one another, with a neat sitting area with fire pits outside. The service was great and the cheesesteak sandwich was fresh off the grill. Tasted great but it still doesn't compare to the NYCS cheesesteak sandwich (hard to beat that one). Not from Philly, but I've visited all the staples there and this place is the first I've had on the west coast that has the authentic bun (an Amoroso roll) and offers cheez whiz as an option. Something about a Philly cheesesteak in cold weather...so good. Choose any of the Cheesesteaks that matches your preference, but I would go with the Pepper Cheesesteak with either American or Whiz. Other Notes: located at On Tap, which is one of the half-dozen food truck pods in Bend. The one is nearby the Costco and Whole Foods, so could be a planned trip if you're in the area around lunchtime or just want a beer. Stopped here with co-workers. So many good trucks to choose from, but I was in the mood for a Cheesesteak. Overall, it was pretty good. The bread was nice and had a pleasant chew to it. The meat was not overcooked and dried out and it had a good amount of onions without being overwhelming. I know this next part is controversial, but I opted for white american. I was raised on the east coast and lived in Lancaster PA for 3 years. Also spent time in Philadelphia. Living on the west coast now for over 30 years. I can honestly say I have NEVER had a genuine cheesesteak out here... until now. This is the real deal..the meat was thin cut, tasty as hell, and not loaded with fat and gristle. He told me he gets his rolls from Philadelphia and I believe it. They absorbed the juices from the meat mixture (I had mushrooms and onions) perfectly while still holding together and not falling apart. I was in heaven. It's a food truck in a little group of food trucks with plenty of tables and a bar with a nice selection of draft beers. I'm only in town for a few days but I plan on going back... and will return every time I visit Bend. Just go. It's fricken awesome! read more

Its tough getting a craving for a classic Philly Cheesesteak when your so far from Philadelphia and everyone on the west coast thinks your crazy for wanting a Whiz Wit (Cheesesteak with cheese whiz and onion for those not in the know). I actually dream about Geno's cheesesteak every once in a while... Well... Luckily, here in Bend, we have the awesome Philly Style Cheesesteaks, that actually uses Ambrosia rolls and has cheese whiz! We only received a slightly confused look when we ordered our sandwiches with the whiz (guessing it doesn't happen that often). They were pretty awesome, with the steak cut just right. The only miss was that my cheese was mostly sat on the top where the opening was, rather than spread out but that minor to complain about what it is pretty darn close. At least, the closest thing you'll probably get in Bend, and possibly in Oregon, to a true Philly Cheesesteak. read more

First, the On Tap food cart pod was so well done. We had six of us in our party and we all had a great time. The bar area has a great variety and quality of beers and ciders on tap. Now to the cheesesteaks - my son and I each had a large Mushroom Cheesesteak with the white American cheese. May be the best cheesesteak I've had since my first one in Philly 43 years ago. Great bread. Steak, onions, cheese and mushrooms all blended in to this meaty gooey bliss! Delicious. They also gave us a side of chopped medium spicy peppers. Really added to the CS. I ordered the special of the day, chicken parmesan sandwich. It was unlike any I have ever seen or tasted. The chicken was ground up. It looked like dog food and tasted worse. This place is legit and uses real cheez whiz, Amoroso buns, and great steak. It's definitely the best in Bend and probably the whole PNW. I even tried the Impossible meat and it was surprisingly great too. They've been around for over 10 years and definitely know what they're doing. Being at On Tap they also have a super cool environment and some great rotating taps available. I would highly recommend grabbing a pint, mushroom steak sandwich with whiz, and white American cheese. These sandwiches are good . My favorite is the mushroom philly. The bread is spot on too. My only complaint is that it takes a long time to get one. Your basically making 4 sandwiches with a variation on the same 5 ingredients. Seems like it should take minutes to make but instead takes up to 30 minutes, busy or not busy. I'm from the east coast and these same sandwiches are made in under a minute and served hundreds a day. read more

Tried this place for the first time last night. I was very happy with the cheesesteaks. Being from Philly it is very difficult to find a quality sandwich done right. These guy know what's up. They use the classic amoroso hoagie roll from Philly, the same rolls all the big steak places use. It was perfectly soft and had that chew on the outside you look for in a good roll. The sandwich was bursting with steak, cheese, and toppings. I opted for the pepper steak with sweet and hot peppers(another classic Philly thing), perfectly fried onions, and added mushrooms and extra American cheese. I was instantly transported home. The staff there is also very friendly. I highly recommend to give them a try. read more

Eh, wanted to try something different. The price seemed right, it was $6 for a small 6" veggie philly- mushrooms, onions, jalapeno, peppers, cheese. But, it just didn't quite get it. Even for $6. Skimpy on portions. Oh also, the dog that was running around without a leash ... He was trying to get into the fire pits?! It made everyone around us uncomfortable that there was a totally unmanaged dog (he was friendly ) jumping on the fire pits and going to burn his paws. When the owner was located the dog ran into the food cart. Is that normal? Does the dog go in there often? He seemed pretty comfortable in doing so, and then he ran out the front. It was very odd.
